Hollywood star Matthew McConaughey has reacted to the mass shooting that took place in his hometown of Uvalde, Texas. The Oscar-winning actor took to his social media to address the carnage which is considered the deadliest school shooting since the 2012 Sandy Hook massacre.

“Once again, we have tragically proven that we are failing to be responsible for the rights our freedoms grant us,” the 52-year-old actor wrote in a tweet addressing the mass shooting that occurred earlier in the day at Robb Elementary School in the actor’s hometown of Uvalde, Texas. “The true call to action is for every American to take a longer and deeper look in the mirror, and ask ourselves, ‘What is it that we truly value? How do we repair the problem? What small sacrifices can we individually take today, to preserve a healthier and safer nation, state and neighborhood tomorrow?’ We cannot exhale once again, make excuses, and accept these tragic realities as the status quo.”

The actor, calling out for action, then added, “This is an epidemic we can control, and whichever side of the aisle we may stand on, we all know we can do better. We must do better. Action must be taken so that no parent has to experience what the parents in Uvalde and the others before them have endured.” As noted by the The Hollywood Reporter, McConaughey has a long history of activism and philanthropy in his home state, and last year even contemplated running for governor. “And to those who dropped their loved ones off to school not knowing that today was goodbye, no words can comprehend or heal your loss, but if prayers can provide comfort, we will keep them coming,” he wrote concluding his long message.

The Lincoln Lawyer star even opted out of running for office last November despite some hypothetical polls saying he would be a formidable candidate. The actor noted that he would instead “continue to work and invest the bounty I have by supporting entrepreneurs, businesses and foundations that I believe are leaders, establishments that I believe are creating pathways for people to succeed in life, organizations that have a mission to serve and build trust while also generating prosperity. That’s the American dream.”

Karan Johar’s 50th birthday bash is the most talked about event this week. On Wednesday night, the who’s who of the film industry gathered at Yash Raj Studios in Andheri, Mumbai to celebrate Karan Johar’s milestone age. The theme was bling and red carpet and every guest lived up to it. Karan has been a part of the industry for over 25 years and some of his closest friends are biggest stars of the film fraternity. While his close friend like Kajol, Twinkle Khanna, Manish Malhotra, and many others arrived for the party, it was Shah Rukh Khan’s absence that raised eyebrows.

Karan Johar shares a close bond not only with Shah Rukh Khan but his entire family. While Gauri Khan was part of the midnight cake cutting party at Karan’s house, Aryan Khan was seen arriving for the bash at YRF. However, Shah Rukh Khan was nowhere to be spotted at the party. Turns out that Khan did indeed attend the party.

According to a report in India Today, Khan was ushered into the party from a different gate where there were no paparazzi. He entered from a separate gate to avoid the paparazzi. The actor had followed the same when he attended Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor’s wedding reception last month.

On the work front, Shah Rukh Khan will be seen on the big screen after five years with the film Pathaan co-starring Deepika Padukone and John Abraham. The film will release on  January 25, 2022. He also has Rajkumar Hirani’s Dunki and Atlee’s untitled next in the pipeline.

Meera Chopra slayed with her debut appearance on the red carpet of the International Cannes Film Festival this year. The actress, who was there to unveil the first look of her upcoming film Safed, owned the red carpet with her glamorous look complemented perfectly by a dreamy pink outfit, and now she has added another feather to her cap.

While there at Cannes, Meera also made her debut appearance at an event for the Better World Fund, which is the premier educational and advocacy platform driving support for the United Nations and its causes in the United States of America. The event was attended by several Hollywood celebrities including actor Jimmy Jean Louis and Sharon Stone the latter of whom was also the chief guest.

Shah Rukh Khan made one of the rare appearances on Tuesday at a brand event in Delhi. After the Eid celebration at Baba Siddique’s party, the actor made his first appearance at this event. At the event, the superstar was at his humourous best as he spoke to the audience who attended the event. He revealed that he is a fan of the brand and went on to list the number of televisions he owns

“I have one TV in the bedroom, I have one in the living room, I have another one in my little son AbRam’s room, I have one in Aryan’s room, I have one in my daughter’s room. Recently, some other redundant television got spoilt in the gym, I only wait for the days when the old televisions get busted so I can quickly go an buy an LG,” said Shah Rukh Khan.

“The cost of each television is about a lakh, lakh-and-a-half. By that calculation, I’ve spent about ₹30-40 lakh on televisions,” he added.

The video of Khan speaking about the amount he has spent on television quickly went viral with Twitterati having some interesting reactions. “#ShahRukhKhan @iamsrk has TVs worth 30-40 lakhs in his home. I feel poor now.!” a user commented. “Itne ka toh humara poora ghar hoga,” a user wrote while another fan said, “King for a reason.” Shah Rukh Khan and Gauri Khan live in Mumbai’s residence Mannat which is opposite the scenic beauty of Bandstand. They live along with their three kids – Aryan, Suhana, and AbRam.

British model Kate Moss testified via video on Wednesday in the Johnny Depp-Amber Heard defamation trial, dispelling a rumor that Depp had pushed her down the staircase when the two were together in the 1990s.

As noted by The Hollywood Reporter, the supermodel recounted the incident and said that the actor got her medical attention after she fell when the two were a couple, undercutting Heard’s third-party account of the incident. Moss was drawn into the legal battle when Heard recounted an alleged altercation that happened on a staircase back in March 2015 between Depp and Heard’s sister Whitney Henriquez, during which Heard punched him to protect her sister, who’s also taken the stand to support Heard’s accusations that Depp abused her.

Depp’s legal team brought forward testimony from the British model, Depp’s former girlfriend, to rebut a rumor Heard had alluded to earlier in court suggesting that Depp had pushed Moss down the stairs in the 1990s. Moss testified that the alleged incident occurred while they were vacationing at a resort in Jamaica, and that he did not push her when she fell. “We were leaving the room and Johnny left the room before I did. There had been a rainstorm. As I left the room, I slid down the stairs and I hurt my back,” she said under oath.

“I screamed because I didn’t know what happened to me and I was in pain. He came running back to help me and carried me to my room and got me medical attention.”

She further affirmed, “He never pushed me, kicked me or threw me down any stairs.” As the report mentions, Moss didn’t detail any more about the episode, like when it happened, or her relationship with Depp. Her testimony lasted only a couple of minutes since Heard’s lawyers chose not to cross-examine her.

Johnny Depp was arrested in 1994 after the police were called to the Mark Hotel, where he trashed a hotel room in an alleged fight with Moss. Johnny Depp and Kate Moss were together from 1994 till 1998.

On Sunday, Bollywood Hungama broke the news on how Dhaakad, starring Kangana Ranaut, has flopped big time and how several shows were cancelled due to zero audience. Its shows and screens were hence considerably reduced from Sunday and more so from Monday. The film collected a mere Rs. 50 lakhs on Friday and showed no growth on Saturday and Sunday. The lifetime collection of the film is expected to be less than Rs. 3 crores.

And now it has come to light that Dhaakad will not even earn much from the sale of satellite and digital rights. A source told Bollywood Hungama, “Usually, these rights are sold before the release. The revenue earned by selling the film to a streaming giant and television channel often helps the producers to make a profit. In case of Dhaakad, the makers had not sold the rights before release in the hope of a better deal. That’s why, there was no mention of the OTT and the satellite partner in the opening slate of the film, as is the norm nowadays.”

The source continued, “After the way Dhaakad flopped miserably at the ticket windows, the producers can’t expect to be paid a handsome sum for the OTT and satellite rights. Also, word has already spread that the film is poorly made. Not to forget, it’s an adult film and will have to be re-certified for TV premiere, and it’s an added process.”

Dhaakad was distributed by Zee Studios theatrically. There was buzz in the market that Zee’s verticals, Zee5 and Zee Cinema, will buy the rights. However, the source claimed, “Zee5 is not the OTT partner on the film. The makers are trying to sell the rights to Amazon Prime Video. A clearer picture will emerge in a few days.”

An industry insider however said, “Zee might still come on board for the TV and digital premiere. It’s a wait-and-watch situation.”

Nevertheless, the producers of Dhaakad will now have to settle for a lesser price for the rights. The source signed off by saying, “Dhaakad was made at a budget of nearly Rs. 80-90 crores. The losses for the producers would be unimaginable.”
