Yash Raj Films’ has its eyes on the prize! The production house has decided to whet the appetite of Akshay Kumar fans and audiences by releasing only sneak peeks of its anticipated songs from Prithviraj to heighten anticipation of this big-screen experience!

A trade source reveals, “Prithviraj starring superstar Akshay Kumar is the biggest event film of the season. YRF is resorting to a strategy to build tremendous anticipation to watch the film in theatres by not giving out a single song before its big-screen release on June 3! They will only release short teasers to spike the expectation of the film to sky-high. These teasers will start dropping from today or tomorrow.”

The source adds, “YRF had done this for Dhoom 3 and it worked wonders because people are used to seeing teasers, trailers, and then full songs. When they only get a glimpse of the songs, they will definitely get further curious to watch the film. Of course, this strategy works for big event films starring the biggest superstars of our generation, like Akshay Kumar in Prithviraj. The fewer people see, the more they want to be a part of the experience. It is all about creating a big thirst for people to go and watch the film in cinemas. It’s a clever ploy to build more conversation around the film.”

Yash Raj Films’ first historical, Prithviraj, is based on the life and valour of the fearless and mighty King Prithviraj Chauhan. He is essaying the role of the legendary warrior who fought valiantly to protect India from the merciless invader Muhammad of Ghor in this visual spectacle. The film will also focus on the beautiful love story between Samrat Prithviraj and his beloved Princess Sanyogita, played by the ethereally gorgeous debutant Manushi Chhillar, former Miss World 2017.

Netflix continues to attract a global audience for its Indian films. This week, half of the films featured in Netflix’s Global Non-English Top 10 are from India. This is a first for any country globally since the launch of the Global Top 10 in 2021.

This weekend on Netflix promises to be a power packed double bill featuring the much-awaited RRR (Hindi) and Jersey, streaming from May 20!

Badhaai Do director Amit Sharma’s long-delayed project The Intern, a remake of the Robert de Niro-Anne Hathaway starrer of the same name, has long been hounded by problems. Initially, the desi remake of the hit 2015 starrer was announced with Rishi Kapoor and Deepika Padukone as the lead. Deepika was to play a hotshot entrepreneur of an online fashion organization who hires a retired man as her intern.

After Rishi’s death, the project rightfully went to Amitabh Bachchan, and everyone was looking forward to the reunion of the Big B and Deepika after Piku. But now one hears the cast is being reshuffled again. Deepika may not be part of the desi Intern cast at all, although the Big B is very much an integral part of the cast.

The film’s producers are now looking for a replacement for Deepika, perhaps Parineeti Chopra whom Deepika had replaced in Piku?

This August, Imtiaz Ali brings to you the coming-of-age of a seventy-year-old man in a slice of life family entertainer, Thai Massage. Set in Ujjain and Thailand, Thai Massage is a heartwarming tale of a traditional man in the dusk of his life facing erectile dysfunction. It will release in cinemas on 26th August 2022.

Written and directed by three-time national award winner, Mangesh Hadawale, Thai Massage stars the prolific Gajraj Rao, known for many memorable performances along with Divyenndu Sharma who has worked his way into the audience’s heart with each character he has brought to life. Others in the cast include Sunny Hinduja, Rajpal Yadav, Vibha Chibber and Russian actress, Alina Zasobina.

Ketan Mehta has on his hands one his most personal story of recent times, the biopic on his aunt – freedom fighter Usha Mehta and it seems the filmmaker has found the perfect collaborator by his side with Anubhav Sinha whose production house Benaras Mediaworks is backing the project. Ketan Mehta, the National Award winning filmmaker who has made cinema classics like Sardar, Bhavni Bhavai, Mirch Masala, Mangal Pandey – the Rising, Manjhi – The Mountain Man etc brings to the screen his most ambitious film till date.

He tells us, “It’s a film about the spirit of freedom. Set in the pre-independence era, the film’s narrative captures a forgotten but crucial chapter in Indian freedom struggle, the ‘Quit India movement’. In 1942, when Mahatma Gandhi announced the Quit India movement, the final battle of the Indian freedom struggle, the British Govt arrested all the top leadership including Gandhi, Patel, Azad and Nehru in a midnight swoop. The movement was rendered leaderless. All news was blocked and censored, all protests were banned. That is when the youth of India came forward to take charge and lead the freedom movement forward.

Usha Mehta, a 22 years-old-student, galvanized a team of fellow students to counter the British. They established a secret, underground radio station. At great personal risk and under constant threat they continued to provide the true news of the freedom struggle to the people of India and kept the spirit of freedom going. Developing this story has been pure joy. Sifting through her personal diaries, and delving into my own memories have been a crucial part of work.”

To be able to tell a story of this nature, Mehta needed sturdy collaborators to see his movie to the big screens. The scale, the authenticity are important facets of the film. He says, “I couldn’t have found a more supportive producer and collaborator than Anubhav who understands the vision of his filmmaker.”

Anubhav Sinha adds, “It’s been sheer joy working with Ketan on this project. I was taken in by Usha Mehta’s courage and grit. It’s the kind of patriotism that we need to revisit in today’s day and age.”
