Based on the writings of renowned historian and author – Ramachandra Guha, a premium, multi-season series will be adapted from his two books – ‘Gandhi Before India’ and ‘Gandhi – The Years that Changed the World’. The series will be produced at global standards for a worldwide audience and shot extensively across several Indian and International locations. Pratik Gandhi to play Mahatma Gandhi in Applause Entertainment in multi-season drama adapted from Ramachandra Guha's biographies

From his earliest days to his actions in South Africa to the great struggle in India, the series will tell the lesser known stories of his life which played an important role in shaping young Gandhi into a Mahatma. It will also tell the stories of all his compatriots and contemporaries of the freedom movement, incredible personalities who, along with him, played an integral part in the shaping of what became free and modern India.

Sameer Nair, CEO, Applause Entertainment said, “Ramachandra Guha is a historian and storyteller par excellence, and we are honoured to adapt his classic books – Gandhi before India, and Gandhi – The Years That Changed the World – to screen. We couldn’t think of anyone better than the incredibly talented Pratik Gandhi to bring alive the Mahatma, and his philosophies of peace and love that shook the world. This is a story of the birthing of modern India for a global audience.”

Renowned historian and biographer Ramachandra Guha said: ‘Gandhi’s work transformed the world, and his legacy still sparks the most intense debates. His life was an epic journey, played out across three great countries: India, England and South Africa. He fought nobly for freedom, for inter-faith harmony, and for the rights of the underprivileged. Along the way he made many friends and not a few enemies too. I am delighted that my books on Gandhi are now being adapted for this ambitious and exciting series being produced by Applause Entertainment. I am confident that it will bring the complex contours of Gandhi’s life and the moral essence of his teachings to viewers across the globe’.

Says Pratik Gandhi, “I deeply believe in the Gandhian philosophy and his values that echo simplicity in its purest forms. Personally too, I strive to achieve and imbibe many of his qualities and teachings in my daily life. Moreover, playing the role of Mahatma is very close to my heart ever since my theatre days and now it is a huge honour to yet again essay the role of this legendary leader, on screen. I believe it’s a huge responsibility to essay this role with dignity, grace and conviction and I can’t wait to embark on this journey with Sameer Nair and his team at Applause.”

Jacqueline Fernandez withdraws plea seeking permission to travel abroad, a week after filing it

A week ago, actress Jacqueline Fernandez filed a plea in a Delhi court seeking permission to travel for 15 days for IIFA Awards to be held in Dubai. However, now the actress has withdrawn the plea. The actress is being probed by the Enforcement Directorate after her name came up in a Rs. 200 crore money laundering case involving conman Sukesh Chandrasekhar.

Jacqueline Fernandez withdraws plea seeking permission to travel abroad, a week after filing it

Reportedly, Jacqueline withdrew her application requesting the court of Additional Sessions Judge Praveen Singh to suspend a Lookout Circular (LOC) issued against her and issue her a permit to travel abroad.  A week ago, the actress filed a plea seeking permission to travel for 15 days to attend events in UAE, France, and Nepal. She claimed that the ED had seized her passport without giving her any reasons. The court has sought a response from the ED following the application from the actress.

In her recent appeal withdrawing her earlier plea, Jacqueline said she changed her plans after the IIFA 2022 was rescheduled to June from its initial dates of May 17 to 22. The Middle East country declared a 40-day mourning period after the demise of UAE President and Ruler of Abu Dhabi Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

As per reports, Jacqueline’s plans in France and Nepal also fell through. The ED reportedly informed the court that Fernandez’s pass to attend the Nepal event has been cancelled and that she did not submit satisfactory documents for her France travel.

Meanwhile, Jacqueline has been interrogated by the ED multiple times in connection with the Rs. 200 crore money laundering case involving Sukesh Chandrasekhar. She is currently under investigation regarding her relationship with this conman. Earlier reports suggested that the actress had received gifts worth over Rs. 5 crores from Sukesh. The latter was accused of extorting money from Aditi Singh, wife of former promoter Religare Enterprises, Shivinder Mohan Singh. According to reports, Jacqueline had admitted to receiving gifts but the actress has insisted that she was not aware of Sukesh’s real identity.

Reports have it that Jacqueline gave a statement asserting that Suketu introduced himself to her as a channel owner and the gifts were a part of him approaching her with a film offer. Besides the said money, reports also claim that the actress’ family received about $173000 and A$ 27,000.

On Instagram, Bharti captioned her video, “Main comedy karti hoon logo ko khush karne ke liye na ki kisi ka dil dukhane ke liye .agar meri kisi baat se koi hurt hua ho tho maaf kar dena aapni behan samjh ke (I do comedy to make people happy, not to make them unhappy. In the viral video, the comedian is seen talking to Bigg Boss participant Jasmin Bhasin during her appearance on her comedy series Bharti Ka Show. She says, “Dhadhi mooch kyu nahi chahiye. Dhadhi mooch ke bade fayede hote hain. Dudh piyo, aise dhadi munh mein daalo, sewaiyon ka taste aata hai. Mere kaafi friends logo ki shaadi hui hai na, jinki itni itni dhaadi hai, saara din dhadi mein se jue nikalti rehti hai (what’s wrong with beards and moustaches, they have many benefits. Drink milk, and then put the beard in your mouth, you will be able to taste sewaiyaan. Many of my friends have gotten married to men with long beards, and spend the entire day removing lice from them).”

A lot of people keep beards and moustaches these days. But if people from any religion or caste have been hurt by my comments, I apologise to them with folded hands. I am a Punjabi myself, born in Amritsar, I will always keep Punjab’s honour and I am proud of being a Punjabi.”
