Hollywood actor-producer Viola Davis, who currently stars as Michelle Obama in Showtime’s The First Lady, is set to receive the Kering Women in Motion Award at this year’s Cannes Film Festival.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Viola Davis will be in motion in Cannes on May 22, making her way to the stage to pick up Kering’s Women in Motion Award. In announcing Davis as this year’s recipient, Kering and Cannes praised her “activism and achievements” while noting that she has been a passionate advocate for the rights of women and minorities and has “regularly called for greater inclusion in the film industry and campaigned for gender equality.” This record makes her the only African American actress to have received so many nominations and awards for her roles in theater, television and film, it went on to point out.

“Her talent, hard work, choice of roles and the way she interprets them have earned her the very highest recognitions in the film industry,” the award’s organizers said in a statement. It noted that Davis “is one of the few Hollywood personalities to have won a Golden Globe, a BAFTA, four SAG Awards, and what Hollywood calls the Triple Crown of Acting: two Tony Awards, an Oscar and an Emmy, for her roles in the stage play “King Hedley II,” in “Fences” and its remarkable film adaptation, and in the TV series “How to Get Away with Murder.”

The black-tie event, a partnership between Kering and the Cannes Film Festival, has been singling out top female stars since it launched in 2015. Previous recipients of this award include Jane Fonda, Geena Davis, Susan Sarandon, Isabelle Huppert, Patty Jenkins, Gong Li and Salma Hayek. Kering chairman and CEO François-Henri Pinault, Cannes Film Festival president Pierre Lescure and fest executive director Thierry Frémaux are confirmed to present the award to Davis during the official Women In Motion dinner in Cannes on Sunday, May 22.

On the work front, Viola Davis currently stars as Michelle Obama in the Showtime series The First Lady. She recently published a memoir called Finding Me, which she wrote over the lockdown., that recounts her childhood experiences in an underprivileged environment in Saint Matthews, S.C.

Killing Eve star Jodie Comer has been roped in to lead an apocalyptic thriller called The End We Start From by director Mahalia Belo and executive producer Benedict Cumberbatch.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Mahalia Belo will direct the film from a script by Alice Birch and adapted from the novel by Megan Hunter. Sébastien Raybaud’s production and financing banner Anton and SunnyMarch recently announced a development and production agreement for a slate of feature films, with Anton acquiring a minority share in SunnyMarch.

The End We Start From will be the first project under the agreement. Production is set for August 2022, with Anton to launch global sales at the Cannes market, and UTA Independent Film Group will handle a U.S. sale.

BBC Film and Anton will finance the film, which is set around “an environmental crisis leaving London submerged by flood waters, and a young family torn apart in chaos. As a woman and her newborn try and find their way home, the profound novelty of motherhood is brought into sharp focus in an intimate and poetic portrayal of family survival and hope.” The female-fronted project boasts executive producers including actor Benedict Cumberbatch, Comer herself, Sébastien Raybaud, Cecile Gaget, and Eva Yates. Leah Clarke, Adam Ackland, Liza Marshall, Sophie Hunter, and Amy Jackson are attached as producers.

Meanwhile, Jodie Comer will next appear in HBO’s sex therapy series Big Swiss, produced by Adam McKay.

Over the past two years of the pandemic, Bollywood actor Sonu Sood has become a household name thanks to his philanthropic efforts. From aiding and assisting those stranded to reach their destination, to providing healthcare treatment and ensuring proper help and support for the needy, Sood has been reaching out and touching peoples’ lives. Thanks to his ceaseless efforts, Sonu Sood has been receiving much praise and accolades. Talking about the same in a recent interview with The Man magazine, the actor detailed how he manages to accomplish such selfless feats.

“For my last few endorsements, all the money that I have earned, I have asked them to give it to charity. Sometimes they give it directly to a school or hospital, sometimes they route it through our charity-we are open to anything”, commented the actor speaking about how he manages to fund his philanthropic endeavours. Further sharing an example of how he convinces brands to help Sood continues, “I will give you a small example: A gentleman called Wilson from Aster Hospitals connected with me on a recent trip to Dubai and said the group would like to collaborate with me in helping people with their medical needs. So, I said that I’ll promote the hospitals, but give me 50 liver transplants. That is almost Rs. 12 crores in value. As we speak, there are two transplants happening for people who would never be able to afford these surgeries. That’s the magic of connecting the right dots. People come to you and say how can we help, and we find a way.”

While the actor has no plans to slow down his philanthropic endeavours, on the work front, Sonu Sood will next be seen in the Tamil film Thamezharasan which is directed by Babu Yogeswaran and stars Vijay Antony and Suresh Gopi. Besides this, Sood will also be seen in the Akshay Kumar – Manushi Chhillar starrer Prithviraj which is directed by Chandraprakash Dwivedi.

The big-ticket entertainer starring Ranveer Singh, Pooja Hegde, Jaqueline Fernandez, Varun Sharma and a bevy of celebrated actors will hit the big screen worldwide on 23rd December 2022. The director took to his social media to announce the release date of this much awaited film.

Commenting on the development Rohit Shetty shares, “Cirkus is a complete family entertainer. There’s no better time than the Christmas holidays to celebrate the film in Cinemas everywhere.”

Aditya Roy Kapur and Mrunal Thakur’s previously untitled film, Thadam remake, is now titled Gumraah. Based on true events, the crime thriller features Aditya Roy Kapur will be seen in a double role for the very first time in two completely different avatars and Mrunal Thakur will be seen playing a cop. This thriller film will showcase an intense face-off between Aditya Roy Kapur and Mrunal Thakur.

Aditya Roy Kapur has completed the first schedule and will begin the second schedule today along with Mrunal Thakur who has kick started the second schedule in Mumbai and Ronit Roy will be joining the shoot soon.

Helmed by debutant director Vardhan Ketkar the film is being produced by Bhushan Kumar’s T-Series and Murad Khetani’s Cine1 Studios.
