The much talked about The Immortal Ashwatthama starring Vicky Kaushal is finally back on track. Another interesting development is that Samantha Ruth Prabhu will headline alongside Vicky instead of Sara Ali Khan. Now, reports claim that not only is the Aditya Dhar directorial back on track, it stars next year in February.

Vicky Kaushal has gone into training mode again for this ambitious project. There was back and forth between the studios and Aditya Dhar and now it seems like the film is back on track. As per a report in Pinkvilla, the film, which is bankrolled by Jio Studios, is made on a big scale but the budget has been realigned “but its all backend on the cast and crew front with no compromises made on actual cost of production.” Dhar has worked on the script for 3 years and has done the storyboard of the film, which has impressed the production house.

As per the publication, “It’s a film that can change the tide for Hindi cinema. Aditya wants to introduce The Immortal Ashwatthama from Mahabharata in a superhero format, and believes that his story can cross national boundaries too. He is all excited and is finally and actually set to take the film on floors by next summer.”

The film was put on backburner, for which Vicky Kaushal was rigorously training for his physical transformation. For his portrayal of Ashwatthama — the son of Dronacharya, the actor was training in horse-riding and various martial art forms, including krav maga and jujutsu.

Son of Guru Dronacharya and Kripi, Ashwatthama fought with the Kauravas against the Pandavas in Mahabharat’s Kurukshetra war. He was born to the couple as an answer to Drona’s prayers for a son as valiant as Lord Shiva. A Chiranjivi (immortal beings who according to Hindu mythology will last as long as Kalyug), Ashwatthama was born with a gem in his forehead which gave him power over all living beings lower than humans and protected him from hunger, thirst, and fatigue.

Director Yorgos Lanthimos has assembled a star-studded cast for his next film, And, from Searchlight Pictures. The film features Emma Stone, Jesse Plemons, Willem Dafoe and Margaret Qualley in pivotal roles. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the director will helm the film based on a script developed by Element Pictures and Film4 and penned by Lanthimos and Efthimis Filippou.

The storyline for And remains under wraps, but the film reunites the filmmaker with Element Pictures, Searchlight and Film4 following their collaboration on the Oscar-winning The Favourite and Poor Things, now in postproduction.

Ollie Madden and Daniel Battsek are executive producing for Film4, which co-financed the project. The film begins principal photography in New Orleans in October 2022. “Working with Yorgos continues to be a highlight for us at Searchlight, and this is yet another truly original project that sets his work apart,” Searchlight presidents David Greenbaum and Matthew Greenfield said in statement. Lanthimos also has movie credits like The Killing of a Sacred Deer and Dogtooth.

And marks another collaboration for Lanthimos and Stone, who previously worked together on the Oscar-nominated The Favourite and the upcoming Poor Things. She is also staring in Lanthimos’ upcoming Poor Things, and will next be seen starring in and producing The Curse with Showtime and A24.

Plemons is best known for his performance in Jane Campion’s The Power of the Dog, which earned him an Oscar nomination. He will next be seen starring in Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon alongside Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert De Niro.

Dafoe recently starred in Guillermo Del Toro’s Nightmare Alley, and Wes Anderson’s The French Dispatch. He also reprised his role as the Green Goblin in Spider-Man: No Way Home. Moreover, the Oscar-nominated actor is also attached to star with Stone on Lanthimos’ next Poor Things.

Qualley appeared in Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. He is also known for Stars at Noon and the Netflix series Maid. She recently wrapped production on Coralie Fargeat’s The Substance, in which she stars alongside Demi Moore.

Samantha Ruth Prabhu, post her separation from actor Naga Chaitanya, is making every effort to find a foothold in Bollywood. Classy networking with influential Bollywood figures like Karan Johar and Akshay Kumar has not yielded any tangible results yet. There are unconfirmed reports of Samantha being signed up by producer Dinesh Vijan for a Hindi film.

However, there is no official announcement on this. While waiting for Bollywood to embrace her, Samantha has now begun to take Hindi lessons. A close friend of hers in Mumbai reveals, “Sam can speak in Hindi, more fluently than Katrina Kaif . But she needs to work on her accent. For that, she has hired a coach. I think she needs to speak in Hindi in the Amazon web series The Citadel.”

Samantha apparently plays a North Indian character in the web series The Citadel.

Marvel’s Armor Wars, which was originally developed as a Disney+ series, is now being retooled and moved forward as a feature. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the move essentially pushes back the title further down the development slate. Sources say the studio was committed in getting the story told the right way and, in that process, realized that a feature was better suited for the project. Like all Marvel movies, it is intended for a theatrical release.

The project, first announced back in 2020, will see Don Cheadle reprise his MCU role of Colonel James “Rhodey” Rhodes, aka War Machine. Marvel had previously aimed to begin production in 2023, though the team was reportedly notified on Thursday of the project’s shift in direction. Yassir Lester is still on board write a feature script for the film.

No director has been officially attached to the project. As the report notes, plot details are still being hushed although it was brought up earlier this month at Disney’s D23 Expo when Cheadle joined Marvel Studios producer and president Kevin Feige on stage, revealing a logo for what was then touted as being a six-episode event series.

At the D23 Expo in Anaheim, Feige stated that Armor Wars would follow the events of Secret Invasion, the MCU TV series set to debut in early 2023 on Disney+
