The writers behind Adam McKay’s satire Don’t Look Up, ABC’s Black-ish, Apple TV+’s Pachinko and Disney’s Oscar-winning Encanto are among the winners of the 46th annual Humanitas Prizes.

According to Variety, held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel and hosted by comedian Larry Wilmore, the 46th annual Humanitas Prize event centered on awards and $10,000 cash prizes to screenwriters across ten categories.

In addition, Humanitas board president Jenny Bicks presented Filmmakers for Ukraine with the Kieser Award “in recognition of their work to connect the Ukrainian film and TV community impacted by the Russo-Ukrainian War with resources, jobs, and funding to meet basic needs.”

Other winners included Nanfu Wang for her documentary In the Same Breath, Matt Harris for writing the script for Ted Melfi’s The Starling starring Melissa McCarthy and Kevin Kline, and Marissa Jo Cerar for penning the ‘Mother and Son’ episode of ABC’s anthology series Women of the Movement.

The Humanitas Prizes event raises funds to support program and events initiatives, including the New Voices Fellowship and College Screenwriting Awards, which support underrepresented film and television writers through the early stages of their careers.

One of the most popular Korean dramas of all time, Goblin aka Guardian: The Lonely and Great God, is getting a remake in China. Starring top Korean actors Gong Yoo, Kim Go Eun, Lee Dong Wook, and Yoo In Na, the series premiered back in 2016 and is considered one of the most popular fantasy romances of all time. Now, it is being remade in China and will air on Netflix.

A casting call was announced on September 6. The makers plan to take the project on floors by late December 2022. The remake is slated for Netflix release.

As per the official synopsis by VIKI, “Kim Shin (Gong Yoo) is a decorated military general during the Goryeo Dynasty who is betrayed by the jealous king he served. When Kim Shin is faced with death instead of honor after fighting a mighty battle, God turns Kim Shin into a goblin instead, tasked with protecting certain people from a life of misery. But immortality is wearing on Kim Shin, and he longs to find the prophesied human bride who can set his soul free. Kim Shin becomes accidental roommates with Wang Yeo (Lee Dong Wook), the grim reaper who ushers people’s souls into the afterlife. Kim Shin’s nephew, Yoo Deok Hwa (Yook Sungjae), is a rebellious chaebol heir whose family has been caretakers of the goblin for many generations. Ji Eun Tak (Kim Go Eun) is a high school senior whose mother was saved from an accident by Kim Shin 19 years ago, and ever since then, she has been able to communicate with the dead. As part of the D23 Expo, Walt Disney Animation Studios announced their 2023 feature including Wish – a story inspired by the iconic wishing star from the Disney logo. West Side Story Oscar winner Ariana DeBose is on board to voice star the lead character in the feature.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Wish centers on Asha (DeBose), a 17-year-old who sees a darkness in her kingdom that no one else does, so in a moment of desperation, she makes a passioned plea to the stars. The answer to Asha’s wish is an actual star that falls from the sky to help on her journey.

Chris Buck will co-direct with Fawn Veerasunthorn. It is produced by Peter Del Vecho and Juan Pablo Reyes, and features songs by Julia Michaels. Jennifer Lee, who heads up Disney Animation, is co-scripting, with Peter Del Vecho & Juan Pablo Reyes producing. “The film means so much to all of us at the studio and has been an incredible collaboration across all the generations,” Lee said onstage.

Wish will feature songs by Grammy nominee Julia Michaels. DeBose also performed a song from the film titled More for Us. The animated feature is slated for 2023.

South Korean action film Confidential Assignment 2: International starring Hyun Bin, Girls Generation’s YoonA and Daniel Henney, surpassed 1 million moviegoers on September 9 in just 3 days of its release, creating a new milestone.

According to Korean media portal Soompi, in honor of the movie’s new achievement, Confidential Assignment 2 stars Hyun Bin, Daniel Henney, Girls’ Generation’s YoonA, Yoo Hae Jin, and Jin Sun Kyu posed for a celebratory photo with the director to commemorate the occasion.

Notably, the sequel film broke the records set by its prequel story which took five days to hit the 1-million-mark (before ultimately racking up a final total of 7.81 million moviegoers).

In the sequel, Hyun Bin returns as the badass North Korean detective Rim Chul Ryung, exuding the same fiery charisma. Yoo Hae Jin plays the South Korean detective named Kang Jin Tae and Daniel Henney portrays Jack, an FBI agent from the United States who is on the trail of a North Korean criminal organization that has wreaked havoc all over the world, while Jin Sun Kyu will be playing Jang Myung Joon, the leader of said criminal organization.

Confidential Assignment 2: International marks Hyun Bin and Daniel Henney’s reunion after they starred in the romantic-comedy drama My Name is Kim Sam Soon in 2005. Moreover, this will be Hyun Bin’s first project to release since he married Son Ye Jin. The film premieres this September.

Pixar on Friday confirmed that Inside Out – one of its most acclaimed films – is getting a surprise sequel with Amy Poehler returning as Joy. The announcement was made at D23 Expo 2022 in Anaheim.

According to Variety, the animated movie will feature new emotions and follow Riley as a teenager. Amy Poehler is returning as Joy, while Meg LeFauve, who co-wrote the original movie with Pete Docter and Josh Cooley, is back to write the script. Mark Nielsen is producing the film, which is in early production and coming in summer 2024.

Back in 2015, the first installment of the animated adventure starred Riley (Kaitlyn Dias) as she faced her feelings about growing up and moving to San Francisco for her dad’s new job. The original film won the Oscar for Best Animated Feature at the 2016 Academy Awards and was also nominated for Best Writing and Best Original Screenplay.

The original film, directed by Docter, also starred Bill Hader as Fear, Mindy Kaling as Disgust, Phyllis Smith as Sadness, and Lewis Black as Anger. They won’t be the only emotions we’ll see in the film. Poehler teased that we’ll see several new emotions in the film as the sequel moves a few years forward into the future. “It takes place in Riley’s head, only this time, she’s a teenager,” Poehler said, adding there will be “new emotions that show up.”

Inside Out 2, which is still in early production, will be directed by Kelsey Mann. The film will follow Pixar’s previously announced Elemental which hits theaters June 16, 2023.

Actor Eman Esfandi has officially joined the upcoming Disney+ live-action series as fan-favorite character Ezra Bridger. The series also stars Rosario Dawson as former Jedi Ahsoka Tano and Natasha Liu Bordizzo as Mandalorian Sabine Wren.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Disney+ series stars Dawson as titular Jedi Ahsoka Tano, who first jumped to live action in season two of The Mandalorian and also appeared in The Book of Boba Fett.

Other stars include Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Ukrainian actress Ivanna Sakhno and Australian thespian Natasha Liu Bordizzo. Hayden Christensen reprises his role as Anakin Skywalker and Ray Stevenson plays a mystery villain.

As per the report, plot details are not known, but the setup includes Tano journeying from one end of the galaxy to the other in search of Grand Admiral Thrawn, a former commander in the Empire. Star Wars Rebels ended with both Thrawn and Ezra disappearing into space.

Whether Eman Esfandi and the rest of the Ahsoka cast will make an appearance at the big D23 panel Saturday is yet to be seen, but Lucasfilm is expected to showcase multiple Star Wars projects at the conference.

On the work front, Eman Esfandi will also appear in the in the upcoming gay military drama The Inspection, which is currently screening at the Toronto Film Festival. He has previously had roles in King Richard with Will Smith and Hostage 911.
