Coolie takes a lead of Rs. 70 crores over War 2 at the worldwide box office; Rajinikanth ready to conquer the throne

Rajinikanth is in a league of his own. As of his Independence Day release, Coolie has taken a lead of Rs. 70 crore over the Hrithik Roshan and NTR Jr. led War 2 at the worldwide box office. As the film has a day and a half left for release, Coolie has recorded an extraordinary advance booking of Rs. 85 crores at the worldwide box office and is fast racing towards the Rs. 100 crore mark with advance booking alone.

The film is rewriting all box office records, and creating new ones, that will be undefeated for years to come, also leaving behind the combo of Hrithik and NTR by a big margin. On the other hand, the YRF Spy Universe film War 2 has collected Rs. 15 crores advance at the worldwide box office, trailing Coolie by a margin of Rs. 70 crores.

The advance alone ensures that Coolie will be the winner against War 2 at the worldwide box office, as it is too big a gap to fill for Hrithik and NTR Jr. led action film. The real game begins once both films release on Thursday, as right word of mouth could also help War 2 put up good results at the box office, despite a relatively slow start.

The Hindi advance of War 2 is just about average at the moment, and the hopes are pinned on the Telugu advance to get the cash registers ringing and bring in good news for War 2. The Telugu advance of War 2 opens today!

RAJ MANDIR EXCLUSIVE: Coolie (Hindi) sells 250 tickets in just 1 show, War 2 aggregates 500 tickets in 4 shows!

The clash between Hrithik Roshan and NTR’s War 2 with Rajinikanth’s Coolie is turning out to be a lot more intense than expected. While the Lokesh Kanagaraj film is running a one-horse race at the worldwide box office, it has managed to fight against the YRF Spy Universe saga despite a limited release in some centres. Going against the general norm, the iconic single screen of India – Raj Mandir – has allotted 1 show to Coolie and 4 shows to War 2 on Thursday.

And to everyone’s surprise, Coolie is scoring better per-show than War 2 at the iconic single screens, despite not getting a single prime time show. As per the data set we analysed early in the morning on BookMyShow, Coolie has sold 250 tickets in Raj Mandir for the 8.45 AM show alone, whereas War 2 has sold overall 500 tickets in all 4 shows put together.

The per-show average of Coolie is 250, and there is a high chance for it to get housefull in advance booking alone. The per-show average of War 2 on the other hand is half of Coolie i.e. 125 tickets per show. A source told Bollywood Hungama on anonymity, “If Coolie had got one more show in Raj Mandir, it could have surpassed the overall sales of War 2. However, the film is still fighting out a 400 crore biggie with just one show. The hype for Coolie is real, but restricted due to fractured showcasing.”

At the moment, Raj Mandir is one of the very few cinema halls to share shows of War 2 with Coolie. It would be exciting to see if others follow the same.

Karisma Kapoor embraces effortless elegance in Rs 21,800 pleated tunic

Karisma Kapoor has long been celebrated for her understated yet impactful approach to style, and her latest appearance reaffirms that reputation. The actress, last seen in Netflix’s 2024 release Murder Mubarak, was recently spotted in a striking Payal Khandewal creation—a pleated tunic priced at Rs 21,800. She was styled by Esha Amin.

The ensemble is a study in contemporary minimalism blended with bold visual artistry. Cut in a relaxed silhouette, the tunic features Khandewal’s signature engineered print—a large, abstract black floral motif set against a vivid red base. This colour contrast not only commands attention but also adds depth and dimension to the garment’s surface. Crafted from fine pleated fabric, the dress drapes with fluid ease, while the textural detailing offers subtle movement and visual intrigue.

The design incorporates a mock neck and side slits, ensuring both comfort and structure. True to the label’s ethos, the piece is a one-size-fits-most garment, intended to flatter a variety of body types without compromising on shape or proportion. Styled here with matching red pleated trousers, the look gains an additional layer of tonal harmony, creating a cohesive yet dynamic visual statement.

Karisma kept her accessories minimal, opting for hoop earrings, slim gold bangles, and a pair of classic black Mary Jane flats. Her beauty look leaned towards the timeless—sleek, pulled-back hair, defined brows, and a bold lip, complemented by dark round sunglasses for a touch of old-school glamour.

The actress shared images of the look while unveiling McCain Foods India’s new packaging, writing: “Here’s to great taste, good choices, and greener futures! #McCain #Sustainability #ProjectSunshine #NewLookSameTaste”

Shanoo Sharma breaks silence on Ranveer Singh exiting from YRF; says, “There is no bad blood”

Yash Raj Films’ (YRF) casting director Shanoo Sharma has opened up about Ranveer Singh parting ways with the production house that gave him his big break. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Sharma addressed the actor’s exit candidly, revealing that there was no bitterness involved.

“No, I don’t think it hurt. No, no, it didn’t hurt. Not at all. He’s going ahead with his life. I wish him all the best. There’s a reason why he must be going. There’s a reason why the production house is okay with him going. So I feel things work, and then they fade, and then they start to work again and then they fade. So it’s just literally that. I don’t think there’s any bad blood as such, but he needed to move, and for me, he’s my best friend as well. So there’s no no there’s nothing difficult on that front,” Sharma said.

The journey of Ranveer Singh with YRF began in 2010 when he made his debut in the rom-com Band Baaja Baarat. The film, produced by Aditya Chopra and directed by Maneesh Sharma, became a sleeper hit and established Singh as one of Bollywood’s most promising newcomers. Over the years, he collaborated with the banner on several successful films, including Ladies vs Ricky Bahl, Gunday, Befikre, among others.

Despite his departure from the YRF talent management fold, Singh has consistently expressed gratitude towards Chopra and the team for shaping his early career. His split from the production house marks the end of an era, but both parties appear to have moved forward amicably.

Currently, Ranveer Singh is gearing up for Dhurandhar, a high-profile project featuring Akshaye Khanna, Sanjay Dutt, R Madhavan, and Arjun Rampal, directed by Aditya Dhar. The film is slated for release on December 5 and is already generating buzz for its powerhouse ensemble. In addition, Singh has Don 3 in the pipeline, stepping into the shoes of the iconic character previously portrayed by Shah Rukh Khan and Amitabh Bachchan.

Sharma’s comments reaffirm that in the ever-changing landscape of Bollywood, professional relationships evolve, and departures don’t necessarily signal discord. For her, Singh remains both a friend and a talent she deeply respects, while the actor continues to carve out a new chapter in his career beyond the YRF umbrella.

Sholay to be honoured at Toronto International Film Festival along with Stephen Spielberg’s Jaws, confirms Javed Akhtar

Two classic movies from across the world will be honoured at the Toronto International Film Festival this September. One is Stephen Spielberg’s ultimate horror-drama Jaws about a shark which terrorizes swimmers from a coastal town. The other is our own beloved all-time classic Sholay, which also has a terror point in Gabbar Singh, a villain which terrorizes a village.

Confirming the honour, Javed Akhtar, who co-wrote Sholay with Salim Khan, said, “You have discovered quite an interesting point of similarity between the two films. The shark and Gabbar. Indeed, Sholay joins Spielberg’s Jaws at the Toronto film festival next month. To be honoured for completing 50 years. Both are iconic films, and I am proud to be associated with one of them. By the way, my wife (Shabana Azmi) worked with Stephen Spielberg last year on a series (Halo).”

While Sholay was released on August 14, 1975, Jaws opened all over the world on June 20, 1975. Both were raging successes and are acknowledged among the most influential films of all times.

EXCLUSIVE: Delayed Bengali film Dhumketu gives tough fight to War 2 in West Bengal; sells a whopping 18,000 tickets

The industry is gearing up for the clash between the Hrithik Roshan-Jr NTR starrer War 2 and the Rajinikanth-starrer Coolie. As it happens during clashes, issues have come up with regards to show sharing. However, in the state of West Bengal, Bengali film Dhumketu has come out of the syllabus and has given a tough fight to both the films.

A trade source told Bollywood Hungama, “Dhumketu also releases on the same day as War 2 and Coolie, that is, Thursday, August 14. It was known that there was tremendous excitement to see the film. Yet, its makers are surprised by the advance ticket sales. Several shows across the state, particularly in Kolkata, are fast-filling or nearly sold out.”

The trade source added, “Dhumketu has sold nearly 18,000 tickets as of Monday, August 11, 9:00 am and the number is increasing with each passing hour. Meanwhile, War 2 has sold around 5,000 tickets in West Bengal.”

War 2 is distributed and produced by Yash Raj Films (YRF) and they have asked cinemas across the Hindi-speaking belt for maximum showcasing or 100% showcasing in single-screen, two-screen and three-screen properties.

The trade source continued, “But YRF seems to have made an exception in West Bengal, looking at the response to Dhumketu’s advance booking and allowed some theatres for show-sharing. YRF head honcho Aditya Chopra always takes a pragmatic approach and he understands the hype for the Bengali film along with that for War 2. Hence, the exception was made.”

In single-screens of Kolkata like Prachi, Asoka and Menoka, War 2 has been allotted 3 shows while Dhumketu has been allotted 1 show. In Jayanti and Binodini, Dhumketu has been given two shows. In Navina and Uma Talkies, two shows, however, have been allotted to both Dhumketu and Coolie’s Hindi version. As for the iconic Priya cinema, the management, from August 14, will play 3 shows of War 2, 1 show of Dhumketu and the morning show has been allotted to the animated blockbuster Mahavatar Narsimha. Surprisingly, both shows of Dhumketu in Navina and the afternoon show at Binodini are already sold out, though the release is three days away.

Dhumketu stars popular Bengali actor Dev along with Subhashree Ganguly, Parambrata Chatterjee, Chiranjeet Chakraborty and others. Readers will be surprised to know that the shooting of the film began nearly ten years ago, in October 2015 and was completed in January 2017. The film then faced certain issues, after which it was finally revived earlier this year.

A Bengali film industry insider commented, “Usually, delayed films look dated and their appeal diminishes over time. But with Dhumketu, that hasn’t happened at all. The audience is well aware that its filming was completed 9-10 years ago, but still, they can’t wait to see it. This is truly historic.”
