After months of exploring supernatural themes and an unconventional love story, Thama—a vampire-themed comedy starring Ayushmann Khurrana and Rashmika Mandanna—has entered its final leg of filming. Directed by Aditya Sarpotdar, the movie began its concluding shoot schedule in Ooty on April 28.

The ongoing shooting schedule, running until May 25, will cover several critical scenes, including the film’s climax and a more intimate exploration of the lead characters’ romance. The production team is currently based near Doddabetta Peak in the Nilgiri forests of Tamil Nadu, where they are also preparing to film the origin story of Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s character—a vampire with a dark and mysterious past. Nawazuddin is expected to join the cast in mid-May for these pivotal scenes.

A source tells Mid-Day, “Starting April 28, Ayushmann and Rashmika filmed their portions in the forests of Ooty. They are currently filming in and around Doddabetta Peak. In this leg, the director will shoot some portions of the love story between the leads. After Nawazuddin joins the unit in the third week of May, they will shoot the backstory of how he became a vampire, and the climax.”

As per reports, set across two timelines, Thama follows the journey of a historian, played by Ayushmann Khurrana, as he delves into the mythological origins of vampires rooted in Indian folklore. The narrative moves between the present day and the ancient city of Vijayanagar, where a haunting tale of unfulfilled love connects the two eras. It is also reported that the film draws its title from Ashwatthama—the immortal warrior from the Mahabharata—and weaves together elements of mythology, folklore, romance, and mystery to create a unique cinematic experience.

With the current shooting schedule set to wrap up later this month, only two songs remain to be filmed for Thama. The makers are aiming for a grand Diwali 2025 release, aligning the film’s mythological and mystical themes with the festive season.

Mumbai’s Charkop Police have registered a rape case against actor Ajaz Khan following a complaint by an actress who alleged that he sexually assaulted her under the pretext of marriage. The case has been filed under sections 64, 64(2)(M), 69, and 74 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and investigations are currently underway, according to police officials.

The actress claims that Khan promised her a part in his OTT project House Arrest as well as other projects. She claimed that he made numerous promises and made a marriage proposal while the show was being produced. According to the woman, Khan used the promise of marriage as a pretext to rape her at his house on March 25. She also reaffirmed the same commitment by accusing him of beating her once more a few days later.

The actress further alleged that Khan told her his religion allows up to four marriages and assured her he would take full responsibility for her. Authorities are currently conducting an active investigation into the case.

Meanwhile, Mumbai Police have also filed a case against Ajaz Khan, producer Rajkumar Pandey, and others in connection with alleged obscene content featured in the reality show House Arrest, streamed on the Ullu App. The FIR was registered following a complaint by Bajrang Dal activist Gautam Ravriya.

An official from the Amboli police station stated, “Based on a complaint lodged by Gautam Ravriya, an activist of Bajrang Dal, the police registered a case against actor Ajaz Khan, producer Rajkumar Pandey of the House Arrest web show and other persons from Ullu app.”

Following recent reports that Mujhse Shaadi Karogi 2 is in the works, fans were quick to react to buzz surrounding the film’s casting. While certain reports claimed that Varun Dhawan and Kartik Aaryan have been locked as the leads for the sequel to the 2004 comedy blockbuster, with the latter stepping into the other lead role — originally played by Akshay Kumar alongside Salman Khan and Priyanka Chopra, fresh updates suggest otherwise.

Contrary to the swirling rumours, a source has clarified in a Hindustan Times report that Kartik Aaryan is not in talks for the project. “The rumours of Kartik being in talks for Mujhse Shaadi Karogi 2 are untrue. The actor is currently busy with filming his current project and has a few more in the pipeline that he wants to wrap up first.”

With Kartik currently headlining a string of solo projects, his absence from the multi-hero sequel doesn’t come as a complete surprise. The source further elaborated on the actor’s current mindset and professional strategy, stating, “Kartik is currently focused on solo-led films because he believes that’s the path best aligned with his growth and the space he’s carved for himself. It’s not about avoiding ensemble or multi-hero projects—it’s about the confidence he has in his vision. He’s among the most intelligent actors today, and his choices reflect that.”

Kartik Aaryan’s upcoming slate is a busy one. He will soon be seen in Naagzilla, a high-concept entertainer produced by Karan Johar, as well as Tu Mera Main Teri Main Teri Tu Mera with director Sameer Vidwans and Johar again backing the film. He is also set to star in an untitled romantic drama by Anurag Basu opposite South star Sreeleela.
