The Fawad Khan-Vaani Kapoor starrer Abir Gulaal was always in a tough spot, more so after the disastrous attack that took place in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir on April 22. There have been reports that the film’s release might be in jeopardy in India. But now, it has come to light that the songs of the film have been pulled down by the audio company, Saregama.

A source told Bollywood Hungama, “The jukebox of the film was uploaded on YouTube and other music platforms on Saturday, April 19. A grand music launch was held the same day at Global Village, Dubai and was well received. But after the attack, the demand for a ban on its release in India grew louder.”

The source continued, “Hence, Saregama probably decided to pull down the jukebox fearing massive backlash. Even the songs, which were uploaded earlier, are no longer available on YouTube and music apps. Further, they have deleted posts from their social media handles about the film.”

An industry insider commented, “It was always tough for Abir Gulaal to get an Indian release. Yet, there were hopes that a solution might be achieved as things were peaceful. But the recent ghastly terror attack has changed it all.”

Earlier in the day, Bollywood Hungama reported that Abir Gulaal might get delayed and may not release on its scheduled release date – May 9.

The upcoming Hindi film Abir Gulaal, marking Pakistani actor Fawad Khan’s much-anticipated return to Bollywood, is now facing mounting resistance following the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir. The film, which also stars Vaani Kapoor, is reportedly at risk of being denied theatrical release in India.

In the wake of the tragedy, the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) has reissued its 2019 directive banning all Pakistani artists and technicians from participating in Indian entertainment projects. In a strongly worded statement, FWICE declared a “blanket boycott on all Pakistani artists, singers, and technicians participating in any Indian film or entertainment projects.” The statement further added, “Despite this ongoing directive, we have been made aware of the recent collaboration with Pakistani actor Fawad Khan for the Hindi film Abir Gulaal. In light of the recent attack in Pahalgam, FWICE is once again compelled to act.”

FWICE emphasized disciplinary consequences for any member or affiliate – be it actors, directors, producers, or technicians – who continue collaborations with Pakistani nationals. “Nation comes first—always. FWICE stands united with the victims of this attack and urges the entire film fraternity to uphold the spirit of national integrity,” the statement read.

According to a report by NDTV, sources within the Information and Broadcasting Ministry have hinted that several cinema chains are unwilling to screen the film. Additionally, pressure from various entertainment bodies has reportedly prompted the ministry to consider denying the film release permissions altogether. Abir Gulaal, which generated early buzz for Fawad Khan’s Bollywood comeback post-Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, may now find itself shelved or facing an indefinite delay in India due to the renewed socio-political sensitivity.

The attack on April 22, in which several non-Islamic citizens and tourists were targeted and killed by Islamic fundamentalists affiliated with The Resistance Front (TRF), has reignited tensions surrounding collaborations between Indian and Pakistani artists. However, as of now, despite the ongoing reports and rumours, the producers have not released an official statement addressing the boycott or confirming the film’s release status.

Rohit Shetty has officially confirmed that sequels to Ranveer Singh’s Simmba and Akshay Kumar’s Sooryavanshi are in the works. He also revealed that more actors will be joining the cop universe, expanding the franchise even further.

Speaking to Komal Nahta on his podcast Gamechangers, Rohit Shetty said, “Simmba ka bhi part 2 hoga, Sooryavanshi bhi aage badhegi. Aur bhi log aaenge. Aur bhi filmein banengi cop universe mein. So, that’s why we created that universe.”

In the same interview, Rohit Shetty revealed that the cop universe wasn’t something he had initially planned. When he directed Singham in 2011, he had no idea it would evolve into such a massive franchise. The idea of connecting all the cop films started taking shape only later, while he was developing the script for Simmba.

Rohit Shetty, known for directing the Golmaal series, counts Ajay Devgn, Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh, and Karan Johar among his closest confidants in the film industry.

He said, “There are 2-3 people I can call even at 2 am—Ajay sir, Ranveer, Deepika. I share a very close bond with them. In fact, when only the final schedule of Singham Again was left, Deepika was already four months pregnant, yet she still came to shoot. Relationships like these are truly rare.”
