Janki Bodiwala to join Rani Mukerji in Mardaani 3: Report

After impressing audiences with her Hindi film debut in Shaitaan, Gujarati cinema star Janki Bodiwala has landed a significant role in Mardaani 3, the third installment of Yash Raj Films’ acclaimed female cop franchise. The film will once again see Rani Mukerji reprise her fierce role as Shivani Shivaji Roy, with Janki now stepping in as a fellow police officer.

A report by Pinkvilla revealed the development, quoting a source close to the development saying, “After winning over the audience with Shaitaan, Janki has bagged a very important role in Mardaani 3. Adi Chopra, and Rani Mukerji were impressed by her performance in Shaitaan, and have cast her to play an important part in Mardaani 3. She will be seen as a cop in the film. She has already started shooting for the film in Mumbai.”

This marks a major leap for Janki, who rose to fame through notable performances in Gujarati films before transitioning into the Hindi film industry. Her debut in Shaitaan, which was well-received both critically and commercially, caught the attention of big names at YRF, including producer Aditya Chopra and lead star Rani Mukerji.

The Mardaani franchise, known for its strong storytelling and socially relevant themes, has been praised for portraying a no-nonsense female protagonist tackling real-world crimes. Fawad Khan offers condolences for Pahalgam terror attack amid renewed boycott calls against Pakistani artists

In response to fresh demands to prohibit Pakistani artists from working in India following the tragic terror attack in Pahalgam that claimed 26 lives, well-known actor Fawad Khan expressed his sorrow over the incident.

In a message shared on Instagram, he wrote, “I’m deeply saddened by the news of the horrific attack in Pahalgam. Our hearts go out to the victims of this terrible tragedy, and we pray for strength and recovery for their families during this challenging time.”

This development comes just ahead of the May 9 release of Abir Gulaal, featuring Fawad Khan and Vaani Kapoor.

Following the 2019 Pulwama terror attack that killed 35 paramilitary personnel, the Federation of Western India Cine Employees — a body representing film industry professionals — had previously called for a ban on Pakistani artists, singers, and technicians working in Indian cinema.

In the wake of the Pahalgam attack, the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) has reiterated its directive.

“Despite the ongoing directive, we’ve been informed about the recent involvement of Pakistani actor Fawad Khan in the Hindi film Abir Gulaal. In light of the recent attack in Pahalgam, FWICE is once again compelled to issue a blanket boycott on all Pakistani artists, singers and technicians participating in any Indian film or entertainment projects. This includes performances or collaborations occurring anywhere in the world,” the organisation stated.

FWICE serves as an umbrella body for 32 different associations representing workers and technicians in the Indian film industry, with a membership exceeding five lakh.

The statement further warned, “We would like to emphasise that any member of our organisation or it’s affiliate associations, such as the actors, directors, other technicians and producers or the production houses found cooperating with Pakistani personnel will be subject to disciplinary action. Further, we will take all necessary steps to ensure that ‘Abir Gulaal’ is not released in India.”

Meanwhile, as the bodies of those killed in Tuesday’s horrific terror attack arrived at their homes, the hashtag #boycottAbirGulaal began trending on social media.

Earlier this month, the Raj Thackeray-led Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) also voiced strong opposition to the film’s release. Party leader Ameya Khopkar stated, “We have been protesting against this film, against Pakistani artists and Pakistani films. And we will continue to do so. No film will be released here featuring Pakistani artists. And there is no need to release it. I just want to say, show the courage to release it. I challenge you to release it.”

Pakistani artists, once widely appreciated for their contributions to Hindi cinema, have repeatedly faced pushback in India whenever tensions between the two countries have escalated due to terror-related incidents.

In 2016, following the Uri terror attack that claimed the lives of 19 Indian soldiers, a ban was imposed on Pakistani artists in the Indian film and music industry. Fawad Khan, who was then enjoying significant popularity, came under fire for his appearance in Karan Johar’s Ae Dil Hai Mushkil. In response to the backlash, Johar issued an apology and pledged not to collaborate with Pakistani artists again. Similarly, Shah Rukh Khan’s 2017 film Raees faced controversy for featuring Pakistani actor Mahira Khan.

Amid nationwide anger over the Pahalgam terror attack that claimed innocent lives, the Cabinet Committee on Security has announced strict measures against Pakistan for allegedly supporting terrorism in India.

The government has suspended the Indus Water Treaty and closed the Integrated Check Post at Attari. Additionally, New Delhi has barred Pakistani nationals from entering India under the SAARC Visa Exemption Scheme. It has also declared Pakistan’s defence advisers in the High Commission as Persona Non Grata. By May 1, the strength of both countries’ High Commissions will be reduced from 55 to 30 personnel.

Sukesh Chandrashekhar gifts Jacqueline Fernandez a Tulip garden in Bali in memory of her late mother: “Mom will surely have a rebirth as our daughter”

Following the unexpected passing of Jacqueline Fernandez’s mother, Kim Fernandez, on April 6 from a heart attack, Sukesh Chandrashekhar — who is currently incarcerated in a Delhi jail over a Rs 200 crore extortion case — sent a condolence letter to the actress. In his message, Sukesh honoured Kim by dedicating a garden of lilies and tulips in Bali, flowers she was reportedly very fond of. It is believed that Sukesh and Jacqueline were romantically involved prior to his imprisonment.

In the letter, Sukesh wrote, “I have acquired, a large piece of the island where the farming was ongoing at Bali, now its a fully private garden named, owned Kim’s garden by Jacqueline Fernandez. I am gifting you this garden today as your Easter Gift, in remembrance of Mom. Baby, I am doing everything that I can to console, you and make you realise that I am here with and for you in this time of worse. People around you would pretend to be there, but only for there own purposes, I am sure you know that.”

In his letter, Sukesh Chandrashekhar expressed his regret and hoped that Jacqueline Fernandez’s mother did not harbor any ill feelings towards him. He mentioned that he believed she would be reincarnated as their daughter. He wrote, “Mom will surely have a rebirth as our daughter. Baby, I really want you to go with Dad to visit your Easter Gift, that I am giving you today, which is dedicated for Mom, as you will surely feel her presence there.” Sukesh also shared that he had arranged a mass at the Vatican to honor Jacqueline’s late mother.

He also shared that he felt he was closest to her mother. He wrote, “Baby girl, Mom is ‘with us,’ ‘in us,’ and around us as our Guardian Angel. I know the pain you’re going through, but my love, I am in harder pain. Because, in a very short period, I became closest to Mom than all of you. It’s very difficult to digest that she is gone too early, and I could not be there with her, for her. Remember what Mom used to tell me, and the note she had written to me on my birthday in 2021. I will stand by the promise I gave mom.”

Sukesh’s relationship with actress Jacqueline Fernandez is a significant aspect of the case. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) stated that he gave her expensive gifts and money. Jacqueline was summoned for questioning but maintained that she was unaware of his criminal activities. Sukesh also asserted that they were in a relationship, which attracted considerable media attention.

Pakistani actor Fawad Khan’s Abir Gulaal may be delayed amid controversy following Pahalgam terror attack

The recent terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, has once again stirred tensions and renewed demands to boycott Pakistani artists and films. At the center of the controversy is Abir Gulaal, the highly anticipated film marking Pakistani actor Fawad Khan’s return to Indian cinema, now facing growing backlash amid the charged political climate.

Abir Gulaal, co-starring Vaani Kapoor, was originally slated for release on May 9. However, industry insiders now indicate that the release may be postponed, as theatre owners and distributors express growing concerns over the film’s reception in light of the current tensions. What was intended to be a celebratory comeback for Fawad Khan in the Hindi film industry is now overshadowed by the unrest and political sensitivity following the recent terror attack, potentially causing unforeseen delays for the project.

Following the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, public sentiment against Pakistan has intensified, casting a shadow over the release of Abir Gulaal, which stars Pakistani actor Fawad Khan. According to a report by Hindustan Times, many theatre owners are currently reluctant to screen the film due to fears of backlash. Although the production team is in discussions with distributors and exhibitors, a May 9 release appears increasingly unlikely.

The publication quoted a source saying, “The production house is trying to negotiate with them, but it looks unlikely that Abir Gulaal will release on May 9 for now. The film’s release may be pushed back till things are sorted. But when that will happen is uncertain, as theatres do not want to take a film with a Pakistani actor now.”

Meanwhile, Ashoke Pandit, President of the Indian Film & Television Directors’ Association, has voiced strong opposition to the release of Abir Gulaal. Speaking to Hindustan Times, he condemned the timing of the film’s release in light of the recent terror attack, stating, “This incident is an act of war against the nation… We, as a federation, have requested with folded hands to not work with Pakistanis. They come up with bulls***t reasons like artist, community, but ultimately, the nation must come first.” His remarks reflect the heightened emotions and deepening divide within the industry over cross-border collaborations.

Echoing similar sentiments, BN Tiwari, President of the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE), also took a firm stand against the release of Abir Gulaal. He stated, “We will not let Abir Gulaal release in India. Action will be taken against the makers (if they release the film).” His statement further underscores the growing resistance within the Indian film industry toward projects involving Pakistani artists in the wake of heightened tensions.

Abir Gulaal, directed by Aarti S Bagdi, was originally scheduled for release on May 9. However, with major industry federations like FWICE and the Indian Film & Television Directors’ Association voicing strong opposition—and rising outrage across social media—the film’s theatrical release in India now hangs in uncertainty. What was meant to be a significant cinematic moment may be indefinitely delayed amid the escalating political and public backlash.

Rahul Bhatt breaks silence on 90s magazine cover featuring Mahesh Bhatt and Pooja Bhatt’s kissing photo: “Kuch farq nahi padta, hum jaante hain sach kya hai”

Over three decades have passed since filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt and his daughter, actor Pooja Bhatt, appeared on a now-infamous magazine cover where they were photographed sharing a kiss. The image caused a huge controversy and still lingers in discussions surrounding the Bhatt family. Recently, Mahesh’s son, Rahul Bhatt, was asked to share his thoughts on the matter, and his response was as unruffled as it was straightforward.

In an interview with Hindi Rush, Rahul Bhatt recalled being only 14 years old when the controversial photograph was released. He brushed off the backlash, saying, “Kuch farq nahi padta. It’s like water off a duck’s back. Hum jaante hain sach kya hai, aur humne bachpan se sab dekha hai.” For him, the criticism is simply noise that doesn’t warrant any attention or energy.

Rahul reflected on how growing up in a film family helps build resilience. He shared, “Film parivaar ke bachche ya toh bohot messed up hote hain, ya bohot mazboot. Log sochte hain humein chinta hoti hai, lekin aisa nahi hai.” He implied that the Bhatt children, at least, had learned to handle public scrutiny without allowing it to shape their identities.

Despite the ongoing controversy, Pooja and Mahesh Bhatt enjoyed a successful streak of collaborations in the ’90s, with films like Daddy, Dil Hai Ki Manta Nahin, Sadak, Sir, and Zakhm making a significant impact on Indian cinema. While the criticism has lingered, it remains nothing more than a footnote in the broader narrative of a father-daughter duo whose artistic chemistry far outweighed the noise surrounding them.

Dia Mirza welcomes Fawad Khan’s return to Bollywood; says, “Art should never be mixed with hate”

Fawad Khan is preparing for his Bollywood comeback with the film Abir Gulaal, where he stars alongside Vaani Kapoor. The movie has been creating a stir—not just for bringing Fawad back in a romantic lead, but also for stirring online controversy. While many fans are excited about his return, others have expressed disapproval, claiming that Pakistani actors shouldn’t be given opportunities in India.

In an exclusive interview with News18 Showsha, Dia Mirza shared her thoughts on the matter, voicing her support for Fawad Khan’s return to Bollywood. She emphasized that art should not be associated with hatred and expressed her desire to see more collaborations with Pakistani artists moving forward.

Dia said, “It is a political question. If the circumstances to seek a ban on artists were completely…I’ve always believed that art is and should always be the medium of peace and harmony. We should never, ever allow art and sport to be tangled or mixed with hate. It’s just good that Fawad is back in the film, you know that we will be watching soon. I hope this leads to many more such opportunities for other collaborations.”

It’s important to note that Dia Mirza’s interview took place before the tragic terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir. Her statements were not intended as a reaction to or commentary on those recent events.

In the meantime, Fawad Khan has previously featured in three Bollywood films: Khoobsurat (2014), Kapoor & Sons (2016), and Ae Dil Hai Mushkil (2016). Each of these movies received significant attention, largely due to Fawad’s widespread popularity among Indian audiences.

Emergency in legal trouble! Kangana Ranaut accused of distorting and misusing facts by author Coomi Kapoor

Senior journalist and author Coomi Kapoor has raised serious allegations against the makers of Emergency, the upcoming political drama directed by and starring Kangana Ranaut. Kapoor, whose 2015 book The Emergency: A Personal History was widely regarded as one of the most comprehensive accounts of the 1975 Emergency imposed by then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, has accused Ranaut, her production house Manikarnika Films Pvt. Ltd., and Netflix of misusing her work and distorting historical facts.

In a report in India Today, Kapoor has claimed that the film has distorted facts while promoting itself as being based on her book, without obtaining her consent as required by contract. She also raised concerns over the portrayal of events and figures from Indian political history, alleging factual inaccuracies and misleading portrayals.

In a detailed statement, Kapoor said, “My daughter is a lawyer, so on her advice, I included two clauses. While the producers had full artistic freedom to create the film, nothing should be altered that contradicts historical facts that are publicly available.” She added, “The contract also stated that the author’s name and book could not be used for promoting or exploiting the film without prior written consent. I was in Goa and had not seen the film at the time, believing that they would honour the contract. But they are still claiming that the film is based on the book.”

Kapoor further revealed that she has already sent two legal notices to the production team but has not received a response. She also cited a WhatsApp exchange from August 2023 with Aksht Ranaut, Kangana’s brother and a representative of Manikarnika Films, where she reiterated the terms of the agreement. “The contract terms must be followed and that while referencing her book in the sources was acceptable, describing the film as ‘based on her book’ was not,” Kapoor noted.

As of now, neither Kangana Ranaut nor Netflix has publicly addressed the allegations.
