Jaat controversy: Jalandhar police file FIR against Sunny Deol, Randeep Hooda, over a scene allegedly offending Christian community

An FIR has been lodged against Bollywood actors Sunny Deol, Randeep Hooda, and Vineet Kumar Singh for allegedly hurting religious sentiments through a scene in their recently released film Jaat.

The Jalandhar police filed the case on Wednesday under Section 299 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which deals with deliberate and malicious acts meant to offend religious feelings. The complaint also names the film’s director, Gopichandh Malineni, and its producers.

According to the complainant, a particular scene in the film, which premiered on April 10, has “deeply hurt the religious sentiments of the entire Christian community.” The complaint further alleges that the scene displayed disrespect towards Jesus Christ.

The scene in Jaat allegedly depicts Randeep Hooda’s character standing beneath a crucifix inside a church, directly above the sacred pulpit, while people are engaged in prayer. It reportedly features acts of intimidation and disruptive behaviour.

The complainant alleged, “The director, writer and producer deliberately released this film during the holy month of Good Friday and Easter so that the Christians get angry and riots break out in the entire country and unrest is spread.”

Sunny Deol’s latest action film Jaat stars Randeep Hooda as the primary antagonist. The supporting cast includes Vineet Kumar Singh, Saiyami Kher, Regena Cassandrra, Prashant Bajaj, Zarina Wahab, and Jagapathi Babu.

Jaat also marks the Hindi directorial debut of Gopichandh Malineni, who is known for his work in Telugu cinema with films like Don Seenu, Bodyguard, and Veera Simha Reddy.

The film is produced by Mythri Movie Makers and People Media Factory, and released in Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu. It has grossed over Rs. 60 crores at the box office so far.

On Thursday, Sunny Deol confirmed that he will be making a return to the big screen with a sequel titled Jaat 2.

EXCLUSIVE: Gopichand Malineni on what one can expect in Jaat 2: “MORE action and entertainment than Jaat; also focus on Sunny Deol’s family”; CONFIRMS that his next is with Nandamuri Balakrishna: “We go on floors on NBK’s birthday”

The action entertainer Jaat was released on April 10 and emerged as a success at the box office. Exactly, a week later, on April 17, the makers announced a sequel to Jaat, titled Jaat 2. Like the first part, it’ll feature Sunny Deol in the lead role and it’ll be directed by Gopichand Malineni. A few hours after this epic announcement, the talented writer-director Gopichandh spoke exclusively to Bollywood Hungama about the sequel.

When asked if the script is ready for Jaat 2, Gopichand Malineni replied, “It’ll take time. However, it’ll have more action, more emotion and more entertainment than Jaat. This time, we’ll also have the family angle.”

Many felt that Sunny Deol should have had a heroine opposite him in Jaat. Also, though the makers establish his background in the second half, details about his family and hometown are not given out.

Gopichand Malineni assured that these aspects will be taken care of in Jaat 2, “Next time, we’ll show his family. It’ll be something interesting for the audience.”

However, Jaat 2 would take time as Gopichand Malineni is starting work on an action-packed Telugu film. He revealed, “I am immediately starting work on a Telugu film starring Nandamuri Balakrishna. It’s an action film. I had worked with NBK earlier in Veera Simha Reddy (2023); it was a blockbuster.” He added, “My script work is already going on and we go on floors on June 10, which is Balakrishna’s birthday.”

When asked if Jaat 2 can begin only next year, that is, 2026, he replied in the affirmative.

Censor cuts in Jaat

Certain scenes in Jaat have been blurred. On this, Gopichand Malineni stated, “When we approached the CBFC, they suggested dialogue cuts. They also pointed at the excessive violence. Hence, they told us that if we opt for an ‘A’ certificate, then we can retain the violence. We asked them what we should do in order to get a U/A certificate. They suggested the dialogue cuts and blurring of certain violent scenes. We accepted it as we wanted the family audience to also watch Jaat.”

Aamir Khan BREAKS silence on Sitaare Zameen Par characters, “There are 10 protagonists, some with Down Syndrome, some Autistic”

For my time and money, Aamir is the most creative Khan in Filmistan. Anything he does sets the pulse racing.

At the moment, all eyes are on Aamir Khan’s no sequel to 2007’s stunning Taare Zameen Par, but a companion piece, so to speak, or the spiritual Sitaare Zameen Par, sibling. Like Taare Zameen Par, Sitaare Zameen Par is also about broken lives and unbroken hope.

For the first time, Aamir reveals the characters in Sitaare Zameen Par: “There are ten protagonists, some with Down Syndrome, some Autistic, some with multiple challenges. Along the spectrum.”

All the protagonists are played by the specially abled. That Aamir chooses to deep-dive into special lives time after time, says a whole lot about his commitment to using cinema as a tool of social exposition and even reform.

Though the release date has not been officially announced as yet, Sitaare Zameen Par opens on June 20.

Aamir Khan locks June 20 release for Sitaare Zameen Par; trailer to release on May 1: Report

Aamir Khan is officially returning to the big screen with Sitaare Zameen Par, his much-anticipated comeback film, which is now slated to release on June 20, 2025. Directed by RS Prasanna, the film is said to be a spiritual sequel to Taare Zameen Par and will once again delve into the theme of disability—this time with a fresh and heartwarming storyline.

According to a report by Pinkvilla, the makers have completed the film’s editing, and Aamir is now fully immersed in its promotional strategy. “Aamir is looking to capitalize on the open run in the month of June. Initially, he was contemplating to arrive on May 30, but a June 20 release is giving him a two-week clear run at the box office,” a source was quoted in these reports.

The source further added, “Aamir strongly believes in the content of Sitaare Zameen Par, as it rides on his formula of laughter-emotion-drama. He was looking for a good window and has found one with a June 20 release. The entire marketing plan of this social dramedy is locked.”

Fans can also look forward to the film’s trailer, which is expected to be unveiled in May. Aamir reportedly has a smart marketing move in place to ensure wide visibility. “The trailer is locked and Aamir is targeting to attach the trailer to Raid 2. The idea is to communicate the date directly to the cinema-going audience, and Raid 2 is a film which is expected to do well at the box office. This is his plan at the moment, but knowing Aamir, there could be last-minute changes too,” revealed the source.

Genelia Deshmukh will be returning to mainstream cinema, marking her first collaboration with Khan. With Sitaare Zameen Par, Aamir is aiming to once again strike an emotional chord with audiences while shedding light on important social themes—this time, through the lens of humor and heartfelt drama.

EXCLUSIVE: Actor-turned-producer Nanda Yadav joins forces with Barun Sobti, Rajshri Deshpande, Ashish Vidyarthi and Yashpal Sharma for the thriller Hawks

Actor Nanda Yadav has stepped into the producer’s chair with director Deepankar Prakash for their upcoming commercial thriller, tentatively titled Hawks. With filming recently wrapped in the vibrant and majestic city of Jaipur, the project is already generating buzz for its high-stakes plot and powerhouse performances.

The film is backed by Nanda & Michael Grobe’s home production banner, Nayamigro Fashion Media, in collaboration with Pranay Garg (Neeljai films) Nishesh Tripathi.

Hawks dives deep into the dark, dangerous world of the money-interest mafia — a world where loyalty is currency, and survival is never guaranteed. Featuring an impressive ensemble cast including Barun Sobti, Rajshri Deshpande, Yashpal Sharma, Ashish Vidyarthi, Rajendra Gupta, and Resh Lamba, the film aims to provide an adrenaline-fueled ride packed with sharp storytelling and raw intensity.

“This isn’t just a film; it’s a story that needed the light of day,” said Nanda Yadav. “I’ve always believed cinema should entertain, but also awaken. Hawks does both — it’s punchy, pacy, and speaks to a deeper truth.”

Directed by Deepankar Prakash, Hawks blends the scale of mainstream cinema with the soul of purposeful storytelling — a formula that’s fast becoming the new-age audience’s favorite. Currently in post-production, Hawks is expected to hit theatres later this year, with a festival run also on the cards.

Gauri Khan’s Torii responds to viral ‘fake paneer’ allegation; says, “The iodine test reflects presence of starch, not authenticity”

Mumbai’s fine-dining landscape found itself in the spotlight this week after YouTuber Sarthak Sachdeva conducted a series of so-called “paneer authenticity” tests at several high-profile celebrity-owned restaurants. The final stop in his video was Torii, the Asian fusion restaurant owned by entrepreneur, interior designer, as well as the wife of Bollywood megastar Shah Rukh Khan – Gauri Khan, located in Bandra.

In the viral video shared on Sarthak’s social media platforms, he is seen adding iodine tincture to a paneer sample at Torii. The paneer reportedly turned black, which, according to the test, suggested the presence of starch—often used as a filler in counterfeit or low-quality paneer. This quickly raised concerns online, with many questioning the quality of food being served at elite establishments.

However, Torii was quick to respond, both via its official Instagram handle and through a formal statement, addressing the matter and explaining the science behind the reaction observed in the test. “We are utterly surprised at the news of ‘fake paneer’ being served at Torii. The iodine test reflects the presence of starch, not the authenticity of the paneer. For all dishes that contain soy-based ingredients (a staple in Asian food) this reaction is expected. From sourcing our produce to the food being served on the plate to our patrons, there are quality checks at every step of the way. Our commitment to excellence in the food we serve remains unwavered,” read the official statement from Gauri Khan’s restaurant Torii.

The restaurant also left a comment on the original video, reiterating, “The iodine test reflects the presence of starch, not the authenticity of the paneer. As the dish contains soy-based ingredients, this reaction is expected. We stand by the purity of our paneer and the integrity of our ingredients at Torii.”

The viral video has sparked wider conversations online about the reliability of such food tests and whether they accurately reflect ingredient quality in professional kitchens. Experts have pointed out that iodine can react with starch present in soy-based sauces, thickeners, or marinades, which are frequently used in Asian cuisine, leading to potential misinterpretations. While other celebrity restaurants like Virat Kohli’s One Commune, Shilpa Shetty’s Bastian, and Bobby Deol’s Someplace Else were also featured in the YouTuber’s test series, the reaction from Torii has been the most detailed so far.

Tamannaah Bhatia joins cast of No Entry 2 featuring Varun Dhawan, Arjun Kapoor, and Diljit Dosanjh

The popular comedy film No Entry is finally getting a sequel, and excitement is building around No Entry 2. After years of anticipation, the project is officially in motion, with major names expected to join the cast and filming plans already underway.

According to a report by Peeping Moon, Tamannaah Bhatia has officially joined the cast of No Entry 2 as one of the leading ladies, marking her return to the comedy genre. She’s reportedly excited about the project, and her character is said to be similar to the one Bipasha Basu played in the original 2005 film. This comes shortly after Tamannaah began shooting for Ranger, where she stars opposite Ajay Devgn.

The report also mentions that the makers are in talks with Aditi Rao Hydari for another key female role, though her casting hasn’t been confirmed yet.

No Entry 2 will feature Varun Dhawan, Arjun Kapoor, and Diljit Dosanjh as the main male leads. The trio has already sparked excitement thanks to their strong comic timing and screen presence. While some fans of the original might feel nostalgic for the 2005 cast—Salman Khan, Anil Kapoor, and Fardeen Khan—producer Boney Kapoor had previously clarified the reasons behind the change in casting.

In an interview with News18 Showsha, Boney Kapoor explained, “Unfortunately, we cannot repeat the same star cast because there were issues, especially with the dates. We need at least 200 days of combination dates to complete the shoot.”

He further revealed that the film’s production is scheduled to begin mid-next year, saying, “It (shooting) will begin soon, probably sooner than expected. We’ve decided on the release date also, it would be October 26, 2025 – Diwali release. The shooting will probably start in June or July. Hopefully, we catch up with the target because again will have a lot of post-production.”

While fans may miss the original trio of Salman, Anil, and Fardeen, the fresh pairing of Varun Dhawan, Arjun Kapoor, and Diljit Dosanjh is expected to bring a new kind of charm to No Entry 2. Tamannaah Bhatia’s addition adds further excitement, especially given her proven flair for comedy. If Aditi Rao Hydari joins the cast as well, the film will boast a strong female line-up to complement the energetic male leads.

Netflix unveils poster for The Royals featuring Ishaan Khatter and Bhumi Pednekar, premiering May 9

Ishaan Khatter, Bhumi Pednekar, and Zeenat Aman are set to star in the upcoming Netflix series The Royals, which premieres on May 9. Directed by Priyanka Ghose and Nupur Asthana and written by Neha Veena Sharma, the show is produced by Pritish Nandy Communications. The ensemble cast also includes Sakshi Tanwar, Nora Fatehi, Dino Morea, Milind Soman, Chunky Panday, Vihaan Samat, Kavya Trehan, Sumukhi Suresh, Udit Arora, Lisa Mishra, and Luke Kenny.

In The Royals, Bhumi Pednekar takes on the role of Sophia Shekhar, a bold and ambitious CEO of a company called Work Potato, while Ishaan Khatter plays Aviraaj Singh, a charming and flamboyant party prince.

Creators Rangita Pritish Nandy and Ishita Pritish Nandy said, “With The Royals, we’ve mounted a romance that whips together the old-world charm of palaces and Indian royalty with glass-walled boardrooms and modern reality—where love is anything but easy.”

The creators revealed that The Royals tells the story of two individuals from entirely different worlds, each dealing with their own struggles. Despite being constantly at odds, they find themselves irresistibly drawn to one another in unexpected ways.

The creators shared, “As they clash, challenge, storm, and rage against each other to prove their worth, they must also discover whether their love can survive the chaos that’s them. Expect drama, humor, and a whole lot of fire!”

Tanya Bami, Series Head at Netflix India, added, “Rom-coms have a timeless charm; they make us laugh, believe in love, and embrace the beautiful chaos that comes with it. With The Royals, we’ve created a modern love story that has an equally modern-day conflict. While Bridgerton and Emily in Paris showed the world how compelling romantic sagas can be, The Royals brings that sizzle and swoon to a world that’s unapologetically Indian.

“It’s not just a love story; it’s royalty reimagined with heart, humor, and style,” the makers said.

Netflix also unveiled the poster for The Royals, featuring a romantic moment between Bhumi Pednekar and Ishaan Khatter. The two stand closely in a softly lit, warm-toned setting, holding each other tenderly. Their foreheads and noses nearly touch, capturing a moment of deep emotional intimacy and connection.

The poster was accompanied by the caption: “A ziddi rajkumar meets a girlboss aamkumari Royal mess, ya shahi love story? Watch The Royals, out 9 May, only on Netflix.”
