Jaat controversy: Christian community demands ban over alleged offensive church scene, ‘Randeep Hooda Murdabad’ slogans raised

The Bollywood film Jaat, starring Sunny Deol and Randeep Hooda, has stirred controversy since its release on April 10. The Christian community has raised objections to a scene showing Randeep inside a church, with some members demanding a ban on the film.

The controversial scene shows Randeep Hooda standing inside a church, beneath a crucifix positioned above the sacred pulpit. Another part of the clip features congregation members praying. The trailer also includes references to violence occurring within the church, which has been deemed offensive by the Christian community.

Several Christian community leaders have voiced strong objections, saying the film’s depiction has hurt their religious sentiments and disrespected the sanctity of the church pulpit. A video circulating online also shows protestors chanting slogans like “Randeep Hooda murdabad.”

The Christian community had initially intended to stage protests outside theatres screening Jaat, but police intervention halted the demonstrations. Instead, representatives submitted a memorandum to the Joint Commissioner, demanding a ban on the film and legal action against the cast and crew for allegedly hurting religious sentiments. They have issued a 48-hour ultimatum, warning of protests if no action is taken within the timeframe.

In addition to Sunny Deol and Randeep Hooda, Jaat features Regina Cassandra, Saiyami Kher, Jagapathi Babu, Ramya Krishnan, Vineet Kumar Singh, Prashant Bajaj, Zarina Wahab, P. Ravi Shankar, and Babloo Prithiveeraj. The film is produced by Mythri Movie Makers and People Media Factory.

Jaat follows the story of a mysterious man, played by Sunny, who arrives in the village of Chirala, Andhra Pradesh, and finds it suffering under the rule of Ranatunga (Randeep) and his wife Bharathi (Regina). What starts as a minor clash soon escalates, and the protagonist decides to fight against the oppression faced by the villagers.

Released in theatres on April 10, the film has received mixed reviews. As per Sacnilk, it crossed the ₹50 crore mark in under a week, collecting an estimated ₹6 crore net on Tuesday and bringing its total to ₹53.50 crore net in India.

KL Rahul and Suniel Shetty purchase 7 acres of land in Thane for Rs 9.85 crore

Indian cricketer KL Rahul and Bollywood actor Suniel Shetty have jointly acquired a 7-acre undivided land parcel in Owale, Thane West, for Rs.9.85 crore. The transaction, registered in March 2025, is part of a larger 30-acre 17-guntha plot. Property registration documents confirm the deal, highlighting the duo’s growing real estate interests. The transaction included a stamp duty of Rs.68.96 lakh and registration charges of Rs.30,000.

Owale, situated in Thane West near the prominent Ghodbunder Road, is strategically located between Anand Nagar and Kasarvadavali. It lies along Ghodbunder Road, a key route connecting Thane West to the Eastern and Western Express Highways. This prime location offers easy access to major business hubs in Thane, Mumbai, and the western suburbs.

This acquisition follows their previous investments in Mumbai’s upscale locales. In July 2024, KL Rahul and his wife, Athiya Shetty, purchased a 3,350 sq ft apartment in Pali Hill, Bandra, for Rs.20 crore. Simultaneously, Suniel Shetty and his son, Ahan Shetty, acquired a 1,200 sq ft property in Khar for Rs.8.01 crore.

KL Rahul, a prominent Indian cricketer, is renowned for his versatile batting and has represented India in all formats. He has served as the vice-captain of the national team and captained in the Indian Premier League (IPL). EXCLUSIVE: Sharvari confirmed for Ranveer Singh-starrer Don 3; expected to go on floors by 2025-end; actress now has three HIT film franchises in her kitty

Sharvari’s popularity got a boost last year with the sleeper super-hit, Munjya. Her performance and her sizzling avatar in the song ‘Taras’ made her the heartthrob of the nation. A week later, she impressed one and all with her act in the controversial OTT film, Maharaj. Two months later, she was back, this time in an action-packed role, in Vedaa. These three films were enough to make her an actress to watch out for. As she gears up for her solo release in 2025, Alpha, co-starring Alia Bhatt and Bobby Deol, she is also carefully choosing her upcoming projects among the many offers that have come her way. And if sources are to be believed, she has signed one of the most awaited films of 2026, Don 3.

Talks about her being in Don 3 have been going on for a while. A source told Bollywood Hungama, “Sharvari and one more actress were being considered. But she has managed to bag the role. The team at Excel Entertainment are excited to have her on board. Sharvari, too, is quite kicked to be a part of such a huge franchise and also because it’s different from Alpha though both are slick action films.”

With Don 3, the talented actress now has three successful film franchises in her kitty. Munjya is a part of the much-loved Maddock Horror Comedy Cinematic Universe. A source said, “Though it is not announced yet, it is a given that she’ll be back with Maha Munjya and some other film of this universe. Alpha, meanwhile, belongs to the YRF Spy Universe; it needs no introduction. And Don 3 too belongs to a series that has got a lot of love from the people.”

An industry insider further commented, “Sharvari is choosing her scripts wisely and associating herself with films that would excite the audience. Apart from Alpha and Don 3, it is said that she has also signed Imtiaz Ali’s next. By doing so, she is also dabbling into different genres.”

As to when the film will go on floors, the source replied, “The makers plan to commence shooting by the end of 2025. By then, Sharvari will get free of the promotions of Alpha; the film releases on Christmas. Ranveer Singh will hopefully be done with the release of Aditya Dhar’s action thriller. Farhan Akhtar’s 120 Bahadur releases on November 21. Vikrant Massey, who is expected to play the antagonist, will also complete his commitments by then.”

Saif Ali Khan stab case update: Chargesheet reveals only one fingerprint matches accused

In the latest update on the Saif Ali Khan stabbing case, the chargesheet submitted by Mumbai police has disclosed that only one out of twenty fingerprints collected from the crime scene matches the accused, Shariful Islam. This single matching print was lifted from the eighth floor of the actor’s Bandra residence, where the attack occurred. The other 19 prints were found to have no connection to the accused.

Despite this, the police have indicated that fingerprints are not the primary evidence being relied upon in the investigation. Given the nature of the residence, which sees regular movement of various individuals including staff and visitors, the presence of unrelated fingerprints has not been considered unusual by the investigative team.

The chargesheet, which runs over 1000 pages, contains a range of evidence that, according to the police, points to Shariful Islam’s involvement. This includes facial recognition analysis and a few other forensic findings that are believed to match those found at the scene of the attack.

The stabbing incident took place on January 16 during an alleged robbery at Saif Ali Khan’s Mumbai home. The actor sustained multiple injuries across his body and was immediately admitted to Lilavati Hospital. He underwent several surgeries and was kept under medical supervision before being discharged.

Following the attack, police launched an intensive investigation which led to the arrest of Shariful Islam. According to the findings detailed in the chargesheet, the robbery was pre-planned, with evidence suggesting that the accused had studied the layout of the residence and selected a time to avoid being detected by security. However, it has been asserted that the attack may or may not be pre-meditated.

While the fingerprint mismatch may raise questions, the police have based their case on a broader set of evidence. The investigation team maintains that the collective forensic and technological data establishes a clear connection between the accused and the crime.

In September 2024, Bollywood Hungama was the first one to break the news that Sidharth Malhotra has bagged an out-and-out commercial entertainer. Seven months later, we are back with another exciting update.

A source told Bollywood Hungama, “The film will be made by Raaj Shaandilyaa of Dream Girl (2019) fame. Producer Mahaveer Jain and Sidharth Malhotra are confident that he’s the right person to execute their film. Raaj is a rare commercial director who can handle comic capers in a mainstream manner. That’s the reason why his films work across the country. He also has an ear for music and that will also come in handy in getting a hit soundtrack for the film.”

The film is written by Sanjeev and Mrigdeep Singh Lamba serves as a production partner. The source continued, “The hunt is now on to find the leading lady. The makers want to take the film on floors in September. They are confident that by then, they’ll lock the star cast and also complete the pre-production work.”

Last year, a source told Bollywood Hungama, “The film has loads of comedy and also has a thrill element. Sidharth excitedly came on board as he knows that it’s a film that’ll present him in a never-before-seen avatar and also expand his fan base. As a result, he’s giving his hundred percent towards prepping for the role.”
