While the biopic on Kishore Kumar remains in limbo, what with the singer’s family not allowing any director access to the content on life of the singer, director Umesh Shukla, whose directorials include Oh My God and the Amitabh Bachchan-Rishi Kapoor comedy 102 Not Out, is working on a biopic on the legendary singer Mohammed Rafi.

Confirming this happy news Umesh Shukla said, “Yes, I am working on a biopic on Mohammed Rafi Saab. That is a hundred percent true. However, I’ve not started casting for the lead. I’ve just completed the script and now I will look for the actor who is convincing as the great Rafi saab.”

Umesh also revealed that he will be using the original songs of Rafi in the biopic.

After earning praise and a tax exemption in Madhya Pradesh, Tanvi The Great, actor-director Anupam Kher’s second directorial venture, has now been declared tax-free in Delhi as well. The announcement was made by Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta via a post on social media platform X.

“I am pleased to share that the Delhi Government has declared the film Tanvi The Great tax-free in the state. With an impactful narrative of inclusion, the film is an inspiring story of a young, ‘special’ girl—Tanvi, who is determined to achieve her dreams against all odds,” wrote Gupta.

Highlighting the emotional depth and patriotic core of the film, she added, “Tanvi’s story is emotional and inspirational. We are committed to promote films that strengthen the spirit of ‘Rashtra Seva’, ignite patriotism, and awaken the conscience of the nation. Best wishes to the entire team of the film.”

Earlier, Gupta attended a special screening of the film and was visibly moved. “Every moment was so heart-touching that I cannot put it into words,” she had said. “This theme is powerful and beautiful, and it’s incredibly important that every child watches this film. We, on behalf of the Delhi government, would also like to screen this film for as many children as possible.”

Tanvi The Great follows the story of a young autistic girl, played by Shubhangi Dutt, who dreams of joining the Indian Army like her late father. Alongside Dutt and Kher, the film also stars Boman Irani, Jackie Shroff, Karan Tacker, Arvind Swami, Nasser, and British actor Iain Glen.

Produced by Anupam Kher Studios in association with the National Film Development Corporation (NFDC), the film has garnered international recognition with screenings at festivals in Cannes, New York, London, and Houston. It also received standing ovations at special previews at the National Defence Academy and Southern Command in Pune.

People Media Factory’s hugely awaited Mirai, starring Teja Sajja of HanuMan fame, has been in the news for several reasons, thanks to its engaging posters and teaser. The assets have helped in increasing the buzz and if sources are to be believed, the hype is going to go many notches further.

In a thrilling new development, the trade is buzzing with reports that none other than Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions is all set to come on board for Mirai. Known for its strategic involvement in significant biggies like S S Rajamouli-Prabhas’s Baahubali franchise, Shankar-Rajinikanth’s 2.0, and Jr NTR’s Devara, Dharma’s potential association with Mirai, as a result, will be something to watch out for.

A trade source told Bollywood Hungama, “If Dharma comes on board, it could catapult Mirai into a whole new league. It will expand its reach and visibility across the country and beyond. With Karan Johar’s keen eye for mass appeal and Dharma’s formidable distribution muscle, Mirai has the potential to become a true nationwide event film.”

Starring the charismatic Teja Sajja, who delivered the pan-India blockbuster of 2024, HanuMan, the film is helmed by visionary director Karthik Gattamneni and produced by the esteemed T G Vishwa Prasad and Krithi Prasad. The story follows a fearless warrior entrusted with the protection of nine sacred scriptures. Bayaan, a police procedural thriller headlined by Huma Qureshi, has been officially selected for the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). The film will have its world premiere in TIFF’s Discovery section, making it the only Indian title featured in the category this year.

Written and directed by Bikas Ranjan Mishra of Chauranga fame, Bayaan is a co-production between Platoon One Films and Summit Studios, with additional producers Kunal Kumar and Anuj Gupta, and Switzerland-based Sadik Keshwani (Guidant Films) as co-producer. Huma Qureshi also serves as an executive producer.

The film was developed through Film Independent’s LA Residency, part of the Global Media Makers (GMM) program. During the residency, Mishra was mentored by Craig Mazin (Chernobyl, The Last of Us), and received guidance from writer Jeff Stockwell and story editor Ruth Atkinson.

Mishra said, “It is my attempt to bear witness to a society in transition — and to the quiet courage of those who choose to speak. I’m deeply honoured to present my second feature, Bayaan, at the Toronto International Film Festival in the Discovery section — a platform that has launched the journeys of many filmmakers I admire and cherish.”

Huma Qureshi, who has starred in a number of Indian and international productions, described Bayaan as a “timely and powerful story” exploring themes of power, faith, and systemic injustice. “Bayaan gave me the opportunity to play the kind of character I’ve long been drawn to—someone within the justice system, yet up against forces much larger than herself. It was an absolute joy to work with a team so passionate and fearless in telling a story that feels both vital and universal,” she shared.

The film also stars Chandrachur Singh, Sachin Khedekar, Paritosh Sand, Avijit Dutt, Vibhore Mayank, Sampa Mandal, Swati Das, Aditi Kanchan Singh, and Perry Chhabra.

Shiladitya Bora, founder of Platoon One Films, stated, “We firmly believe this is a film with global appeal, and TIFF is the perfect launchpad to start its journey around the world. It has been widely reported that Vanga had Deepika replaced by another actress (Triptii Dimri) after Deepika made “unreasonable demands”, like a limited amount of working hours per day, etc.

However, for the first time here is the truth on why Deepika actually walked out of Vanga’s film Spirit starring Prabhas.

From a source very close to the development here is the truth. “Deepika loved the script and role in Sandeep Vanga’s film. The contract was being drawn up, when a week later she was offered Atlee’s film with Allu Arjun which she liked even more than Sandeep Vanga’s film. Since she couldn’t do both the projects, she decided to opt out of Spirit, citing differences of opinion on fee, work hours, etc,” said the source.

The truth is, Vanga had no objections to whatever misgivings Deepika expressed on the project. She just got an offer that she liked better and changed her mind about Spirit with Prabhas. And no harm in that. She had already worked with Prabhas in Kalki 2898 AD. Allu Arjun is going to be a new experience for her.
