After years of speculation, the much-loved character of Dayaben is finally set to return to Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah (TMKOC). According to recent sources, producer Asit Modi is in the final stages of selecting a new actress for the role, marking the character’s comeback after a five-year hiatus. While the identity of the new Dayaben is yet to be disclosed, insiders suggest that an actress has already impressed the makers and is currently undergoing mock shoots.

Search for a New Dayaben Nears Completion

Confirming the development, a source from the show told News18, “Yes, it is right. Asit ji had been looking for a new Dayaben, and recently, one of the auditions impressed him a lot. Mock shoots with the actress are underway. It’s been around a week that she has been here, shooting with us.” This confirmation comes as a major update for fans of the long-running sitcom, who have been eagerly awaiting Dayaben’s return since actress Disha Vakani took a break from the show, following the birth of her children. Over the years, there have been multiple rumors and speculations about her comeback, but none materialized.

In a previous report, the producer had addressed Disha Vakani’s absence from the show insisting that she will not be returning, as she now has two children and her priorities have changed. Asit Modi had also shared that she remains like a sister to him and that their bond extends beyond work. Modi recalled how he continues to maintain a close relationship with her family, including her father and brother.

TMKOC’s Legacy and Popularity

With the grand Eid entertainer Sikandar, starring Salman Khan, releasing tomorrow, that is, Sunday, March 30, the media asked Sanjay Dutt to comment on it. Sanjay Dutt said, “Sikandar’s trailer is super-hit! Salman is my chhota bhai. I always pray for him. God has given him a lot and I am sure that this film will also be a super-hit.” As expected, his answer was applauded by the attendees.

Sanjay Dutt also confirmed his reunion with Salman Khan saying, “Yes, Salman and I are indeed working together. We both are brothers and we are coming together. You all have seen us in Saajan (1991) and in Chal Mere Bhai (2000). Ab dono mein tashan dekh lijiye! Following the closure report, Rajya Sabha MP and media baron Subhash Chandra publicly addressed the media’s role in the case. The makers of the upcoming Punjabi film Jombieland, starring Kanika Mann, Binnu Dhillon, and Angira Dhar and introducing G Khan, and centered around a zombie apocalypse, have unveiled its official poster. Set to release on June 13, 2025, the film also stars Guri, Dhanveer Singh, and Jassa Dhillon. Written and directed by Thaparr and produced by Next Level Productions, known for producing the Bollywood film Vadh, the movie is set in a village ravaged by the Z1N1 virus, causing widespread havoc.

Thaparr, who previously worked on the film Jee Ve Sohneya Jee (2024), speaks about the concept of Jombieland. He said, “I’ve always been drawn to unconventional concepts, and the idea of zombies in the heart of Punjab had been brewing in my mind for a while. One day, I decided to put my thoughts into action and started writing this story. Given that Punjabi cinema has never ventured into this genre, it felt like the perfect opportunity to carve out a fresh niche and make a statement.”

At its core, the film is a love story that soon transforms into a nightmare. “Jeeti and Koko are deeply in love and on the verge of getting married, but their world is upended when a deadly virus sweeps through their village. What follows is an intense fight for survival in a pind overrun by the dead. This film marks the beginning of a thrilling trilogy packed with entertainment and excitement for audiences of all ages. How the story unfolds is for viewers to experience firsthand!” adds Thaparr.

The producers, Neeraj Ruhil and Subhav Sharma, expressed their enthusiasm for the project, citing the unique concept as the key factor that drew them in. “The concept of zombies was the key factor that drew us in. The film’s theme was highly promising, and the script was compelling. A project of this scale and genre has never been attempted in Indian cinema, which gave us the confidence to support it. Additionally, our enduring relationship with the director played a crucial role in our decision, as we trusted his vision and ability to bring this ambitious project to life.”

Rakesh Roshan, who has helmed the previous films in the franchise Koi… Mil Gaya, Krrish and Krrish 3, reveals the reason for Hrithik taking the franchise forward and whether he would be retiring from filmmaking in an interview with us.

Congratulations, the announcement that Hrithik is directing the fourth chapter of Krrish has taken the internet by storm?

Has it? I am glad to hear that. It has been a while since the last Krrish film came, I think ten years. The fans of the franchise were getting restless. We had to take a call.

Was the decision to pass on the baton due to your health?

Not at all. I am fine. It’s just that I feel with time, the franchise can grow only if it evolves. And for it to evolve, it has to pass on to a younger hand. Hrithik has been with Krrish from the beginning. Before that, he has assisted me in my directorials. I feel he is equipped to take Krrish forward.

Does this mean you are retiring from direction?

Nothing like that. I would return to direction if I find something that interests me. Nothing is final. Except that I won’t be directing Krrish 4, my son will.

What would Krrish 4 be like?

There are no details right now. As soon as we have a clearer picture, I will call you.

The advance booking for Sikandar began with full force on Tuesday, March 25. On March 19, it was announced that Sikandar would also be released in the IMAX screens. But the makers commenced bookings only in the 2D screens, leaving many wondering if Salman Khan’s Eid entertainer will have a release in IMAX at all. Speculations went around that the film will have a delayed release in the IMAX format. However, all rumours were laid to rest today.

Earlier in the day, the IMAX screens in the Southern cities of Bengaluru and Chennai threw open the advance booking for Sikandar. However, Sikandar has been allotted only two shows in all the cinemas in Bengaluru. The balance three shows have been given to the Mohanlal-starrer L2 Empuraan. It is directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran and took a huge opening across the country and the world. In PVR VR Mall in Bengaluru and the two IMAX screens in Chennai, the Salman Khan-starrer will have one show while L2 Empuraan will be played in the remaining shows. There are remote chances of Sikandar getting a show in the IMAX in Kochi and Trivandrum as L2 Empuraan is performing historically in the home market of Kerala.

In Mumbai and other Hindi-speaking markets, Sikandar will have an edge. A clearer idea will emerge once the advance booking is open in these cities. The IMAX in Inox Jio World Plaza, BKC, Mumbai has already allotted 4 shows to L2 Empuraan on Sunday, March 30, that is, the day Sikandar releases. This leaves only one show for Sikandar. But as per trade sources, this is an exception and the same strategy might not be applied in other theatres of the Northern belt.

Three-way clash
Meanwhile, in an unprecedented move, a three-way clash will take place in IMAX screens from next Friday, April 4. A source told Bollywood Hungama, “Warner Bros will release A Minecraft Movie next week and unlike the other two films, it’s an IMAX 3D release. The studio and even the trade feels that it can attract viewers in IMAX as the film is based on a famous video game. The timing is also right as summer vacations have begun in many parts. Moreover, the casting of popular actor Jason Momoa will also help pull in the audience.”

The source continued, “It now remains to be seen how the shows are divided between Sikandar, L2 Empuraan and A Minecraft Movie from April 4. If both the Salman Khan-starrer and Mohanlal-starrer remain strong in the weekdays, their respective distributors can ask for same number of shows in Week 2 as Week 1. But on the other hand, Warner Bros will also not be ready to lose out on shows for A Minecraft Movie as the film is tailor-made for the IMAX format. A clearer picture will emerge by next Wednesday or Thursday.”

An industry insider commented, “IMAX usually avoids too many films at the same time and hence, the current scenario is probably a first for the Indian market. At one point, they used to not even allow two IMAX films at the same time. This is the reason why ’83 (2021) and Adipurush (2023) had to give up on the IMAX release to accommodate Spider-Man: No Way Home and The Flash respectively. Earlier this year, Captain America: Brave New World and Chhaava were released simultaneously but this was still a manageable situation as there were only two films. But next week, we’ll see for the first time three films, from different industries and catering to a diverse set of audience, vying for space in IMAX.”
