Actress-turned-politician Kangana Ranaut has made headlines again, this time for selling her bungalow in Mumbai’s upscale Bandra area. The sale comes at a time when her much-anticipated film Emergency is facing delays due to complications with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). According to a report in Hindustan Times, Kangana sold her bungalow, located in the Pali Hill area of Bandra, for Rs 32 crores. The sale was finalised on September 5, 2024.

Details of the Property Sale
Kangana had purchased the property in September 2017 for Rs 20 crores. The bungalow, covering a built-up area of 3,075 square feet, also includes a parking space of 565 square feet. The buyer, Shweta Bathija, is a partner at Kamalini Holdings, a company based in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. The transaction involved a hefty stamp duty of Rs 1.92 crores and a registration fee of Rs 30,000, as per property registration documents accessed by Zapkey.

Kangana is yet to publicly comment on the sale of the bungalow.

Having said that, it is worth mentioning here that Kangana’s bungalow has been a topic of controversy before. In 2020, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) demolished portions of her Bandra property, citing illegal construction. Kangana had claimed that this action was politically motivated due to her ongoing public feud with the Shiv Sena-led Maharashtra government at the time.

Coming to the professional front, as mentioned above, she is currently gearing up for film Emergency. The film, which was initially slated for release on September 6, has faced criticism from several Sikh organisations and delays in certification from the CBFC. While the film has recently received a UA certificate, the board has not handed over the same to the makers due to legal issues.

Our reliable sources have confirmed that Salman Khan and his leading lady, Rashmika Mandanna will be off to Europe by the end this year to shoot extensively for songs.

“Pritam has composed two chartbusters for Sikandar and producer Sajid Nadiadwala plans to shoot it on a big scale in Europe. The recce is presently underway and the exact locations will be locked soon. Sajid is confident to deliver a chartbuster album with Salman Khan and Pritam, yet again after Kick,” a source told Bollywood Hungama.

The source further added that apart from the two songs, Sajid plans to shoot some other key sequences in Europe. “The schedule is being planned at the moment, but as promised before, Sikandar is the biggest film bankrolled by Sajid Nadiadwala till date. Salman Khan as Angry Young Man in a lavishly mounted action entertainer by AR Murugadoss,” the source told us further.

Sikandar is gearing up for an Eid 2025 release, and the two songs to be shot are original tracks. “It’s a dance number and a romantic ballad,” the source shared. Sikandar is the big-ticket Eid entertainer with Salman Khan taking on a big social racket, with Bahubali fame Kattapa as the antagonist.

Anubhav Sinha’s series IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack, starring Vijay Varma, Dia Mirza, and Naseeruddin Shah, has found itself embroiled in a legal dispute. News agency ANI has filed a lawsuit against Netflix and the show’s creators for allegedly using their archival footage without permission in four episodes. The series revolves around the 1999 hijacking of Indian Airlines Flight IC 814.

According to a report by Bar and Bench, “ANI sues Netflix and makers of IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack for alleged infringement of copyright and trademark. ANI says the show uses its footages showing the then PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee, General Pervez Musharraf, and terrorist Masood Azhar without a licence.” The agency has demanded the removal of these episodes from the streaming platform.
Delhi High Court Issues Notice to Netflix
Following the lawsuit, the Delhi High Court has issued a notice to Netflix and the other producers involved in the series. The court has requested a response from the defendants, with a hearing scheduled for Friday.

Sidhant Kumar, counsel for ANI, elaborated on the allegations, stating, “They have used copyright archival footage of ANI without licence. They have also used the ANI trademark. Since the series has come into such criticism, our trademark and brand name are being tarnished.”
Controversy Surrounding IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack
This is not the first time IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack has stirred controversy. Earlier, the series faced backlash for using ‘Hindu’ code names for the terrorists involved in the real-life hijacking. In the show, the terrorists were referred to by names like ‘Bhola’ and ‘Shankar,’ while their real names were Ibrahim Athar, Shahid Akhtar Sayed, Sunny, Ahmad Qazi, Zahoor Mistry, and Shakir. It was later learnt that the nicknames used by a couple of terrorists was indeed ‘Bhola’ and ‘Shankar’ during the actual flight hijack.

In response to the controversy, Netflix has since added a disclaimer to the series, specifying the real names of the hijackers alongside the fictional code names used in the show.

Ranbir Kapoor is gearing up for yet another double role. According to an exclusive report by PeepingMoon, the actor will portray both Lord Ram and Parashuram in Nitesh Tiwari’s ambitious mythological epic Ramayana. The film will explore the encounter between the two avatars, specifically the iconic moment when Parashuram challenges Lord Ram after the latter breaks Lord Shiva’s bow, Pinaka.

“Parashuram’s role in the epic is brief but significant, and the filmmakers have ensured it reflects that,” a source told the publication. Ranbir’s portrayal of Parashuram will involve a completely distinct look, with the filmmakers aiming for an unrecognizable transformation.
Amitabh Bachchan Joins the Cast as Jatayu
The report further claimed that Amitabh Bachchan has also joined the star-studded ensemble of Ramayana. However, Bachchan will not physically appear on screen; instead, he will lend his voice to the divine bird Jatayu, who plays a key role in the story. Jatayu sacrifices his life while trying to rescue Goddess Sita from Ravana’s clutches. Although it is a cameo role, the filmmakers have gone the extra mile by scanning Bachchan’s eyes for VFX purposes, adding a unique touch to the character’s portrayal.
A Grand Mythological Epic with Global Aspirations
Produced under Namit Malhotra’s Prime Focus Studios in collaboration with KGF star Yash’s Monster Mind Creations, Ramayana is reportedly being created on an immense budget of $100 million. The goal is to craft a film that resonates globally, showcasing Indian mythology on an unprecedented scale. Namit Malhotra, who founded the renowned VFX company DNEG, has brought in top-tier global talent to work on the film’s visual effects, ensuring a grand cinematic experience.

Director Nitesh Tiwari has spent over five years in pre-production, meticulously planning every aspect of this two-part saga. The first part of the film will focus on the early lives of Lord Ram and Goddess Sita, their marriage, and their 14-year exile, while the second part will culminate in the epic battle between Lord Ram and Ravana.

Alongside Ranbir Kapoor’s portrayal of Lord Ram, South Indian actress Sai Pallavi has been cast as Goddess Sita, and Yash will take on the role of Ravana. The film also boasts an impressive cast, including Sunny Deol as Hanuman, Ravi Dubey as Laxman, Lara Dutta as Kaikeyi, and Rakul Preet Singh as Shurpanakha. Other notable cast members include Arun Govil as Dashrath, Kunal Kapoor as Indra Dev, Harman Baweja as Vibhishan, and Sonia Balani as Urmila. The film began shooting in April and is expected to wrap up by November, with a worldwide release slated for 2026.

Federal Bank Hormis Memorial Foundation, News 18 Network today announced the appointment of Bollywood actress Vidya Balan as the national ambassador for the second phase of the ‘Sanjeevani: United Against Cancer’ programme with Tata Trusts as knowledge partners.

The campaign #TimeNikaaleinScreenKarein, which has been launched under the programme, gets off the ground in September with a public service message by Ms. Balan. She urges both men and women to take time out and screen for Cancer. The campaign aims to bring an attitudinal and behavioural shift towards early screening by addressing effective partnerships and promoting learning and community engagement.

Cancer is the second most common cause of mortality worldwide, usually being detected much after its first onset. However, testing for cancer well in advance is an efficient method to prevent cancer, early diagnosis, and improved treatment. Being a prominent figure of Indian cinema, and her connect with the diverse audience of the country, Vidya Balan’s strong presence in the campaign will take the messaging around early testing, tumour management and system recognition to far and wide in the country.

Speaking about the collaboration, Bollywood actor Vidya Balan said, “Screening is an essential component for detecting cancer before symptoms appear, allowing for timely and better health outcomes. The television industry was struck with a wave of grief as news of actor Vikas Sethi’s untimely demise spread. Sethi, best known for his roles in popular shows like Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi and Kahiin To Hoga, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Saturday night in Nashik due to a cardiac arrest. He was 48.

According to his wife, Jhanvi Sethi, the couple was visiting Nashik for a family gathering when the actor experienced some health issues. Despite feeling unwell, Sethi was reluctant to seek medical attention. Tragically, he succumbed to a cardiac arrest during the night. “After we reached my mother’s house in Nashik, he had vomiting and loose motions. He didn’t want to go to the hospital so we asked the doctor to come home. When I went to wake him up at around 6 am in the morning (on Sunday), he was no more. The doctor there told us he passed away last night (on Saturday) in his sleep due to cardiac arrest,” she told PTI.

The actor’s body has been sent to Mumbai’s Cooper Hospital for a post-mortem examination, and his final rites are scheduled for Monday. Sethi leaves behind his wife and their twin sons.

Beyond his television work, Vikas Sethi also appeared in several films. He was part of the 2001 blockbuster Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, where he played the charming Robbie, a potential suitor for Kareena Kapoor’s character, Poo. He also featured in other movies like Deewaanapan, Oops, Modh, and iSmart Shankar.

Sethi participated in the fourth season of the dance reality show Nach Baliye with his then-wife, Amita. The couple later parted ways. In 2018, Sethi remarried Janhvi, and in 2021, they welcomed their twin children.

Yesterday, on September 8, the much-awaited teaser trailer of Jigra was released digitally and became a talking point. Starring Alia Bhatt in the lead along with Vedang Raina, the promo has been appreciated as it shows Alia in a never-before-seen avatar and also the idea of a sister saving her brother adds an interesting touch to the film. Bollywood Hungama has now learned about a fascinating aspect of this intense thriller.

A source told Bollywood Hungama, “Jigra is an adaptation of the 1993 film Gumrah. It starred Sanjay Dutt, Sridevi and Rahul Roy and was the story of a man who went to insane lengths to save his lover, who was imprisoned in a foreign country. Jigra makers decided to remake Gumrah but with certain modifications. Two of the biggest changes they have made from the story of the original is that here it’s the girl who’s saving the boy. Also, instead of them being lovers, they are siblings.”

The source continued, “Securing the rights of Gumrah wasn’t a problem. After all, it was produced by Dharma Productions, who have also produced Jigra. The scenario reminds one of Dharma Productions’ Agneepath (1990) which was remade by Karan Johar in 2012 with Hrithik Roshan, Priyanka Chopra and Sanjay Dutt in the leading roles.”

The source also revealed, “Interestingly, Gumrah was directed by Mahesh Bhatt and now his daughter Alia plays the lead in its adaptation.”

Jigra is backed by Viacom18 Studios, Karan Johar, Apoorva Mehta and Somen Misha of Dharma Productions and also Alia Bhatt and her sister Shaheen Bhatt. It marks the second production for Eternal Sunshine Productions, run by Alia and Shaheen, after Darlings (2022). It is directed by Vasan Bala of Monica O My Darling (2022) fame.

Jigra releases in cinemas on October 11, that is, in the Dussehra week. It is her only release of 2024. Next year, she’s expected to be seen in two films – the YRF Spy Universe flick Alpha and Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Love And War, co-starring Ranbir Kapoor and Vicky Kaushal.

A source informed us that the film is not just an out-and-out comic caper but also has a lot of horror, fantasy, and supernatural elements. “It’s the most ambitious film from the combo of Akshay and Priyadarshan. Ekta Kapoor is going all out to give it the required scale and budget,” the source told us further.

In another report, Bollywood Hungama reported that the film will go on floors by December with a start to finish schedule. “It’s a comic caper like never before, as Priyadarshan is exploring an altogether new world of horror and comedy with this film. The title is also as catchy as it gets.”

Bhooth Bangla is a horror comedy expected to be released in 2025, with shooting set to begin soon. The film is produced by Ektaa R Kapoor under the banner of Balaji Telefilms Ltd.
