The duo of Salim Khan and Javed Akhtar, collectively known as Salim-Javed, is synonymous with the golden era of Bollywood. Now, the untold story of this iconic partnership, Angry Young Men, is set to unfold on the OTT platform in October 2024. Announced in 2021, the docudrama will delve into the lives of these two extraordinary writers, tracing their journey from humble beginnings to becoming the architects of Bollywood blockbusters. Their collaboration, spanning 24 films between 1971 and 1987, birthed iconic characters and narratives that continue to resonate with audiences.

Speaking to Mid-day, Arbaaz Khan, Salim Khan’s son, emphasizes the significance of documenting their legacy. “They are legends and need to be documented appropriately,” he said. “Their grandchildren would not know about their humble existence, rise to fame, or why they went their separate ways. The platform that [our family] has in the film industry today is due to the base that they built.”

The documentary, now in its final stages, promises to be a treasure trove for cinema enthusiasts. It will feature rare footage, behind-the-scenes glimpses, and intimate interviews with those who knew Salim and Javed closely. The source of the documentary’s title is a nod to their creation, Amitabh Bachchan’s character in Zanjeer (1973).

Initially envisioned as a theatrical release, the decision to opt for an OTT platform was driven by the sheer volume of content gathered over the years. Zoya Akhtar, Javed Akhtar’s daughter, has been diligently documenting her father and Salim Khan’s journey, recognizing the importance of preserving their legacy for posterity.

The documentary, directed by Namrata Rao and co-produced by Salman Khan, Zoya Akhtar, and Farhan Akhtar, is poised to offer a comprehensive look at the lives and work of Salim-Javed. As Arbaaz Khan aptly said, “They have never been documented, be it in books or autobiographies.”

A fire incident occurred on Sunday afternoon at Chitra Cinema in Dadar, Mumbai. Fortunately, no injuries were reported as the fire was quickly brought under control. The blaze originated in the canteen area of the cinema hall and was promptly extinguished by the Mumbai Fire Brigade (MFB). As a precautionary measure, the theater was evacuated.

Chitra Cinema Management Issues Statement
In an official statement, Chitra Cinema management expressed gratitude for the swift response of the MFB and confirmed that no one was harmed. An excerpt of the statement read, “First and foremost, we are grateful to confirm that no injuries have been sustained, as verified by the BMC. The fire, which originated in the canteen area, was swiftly brought under control. The Mumbai Fire Brigade (MFB) responded promptly and effectively, evacuating the theatre as a precautionary measure.”

The statement further added, “The safety and well-being of our patrons and staff are our highest priorities. We commend the MFB and our staff for their quick and professional actions, which ensured the safety of everyone present. Our team is working closely with the relevant authorities to conduct a comprehensive fire safety check to ensure our premises meet all required safety standards.”

The cinema hall will resume operations shortly after completing necessary safety checks. The management also apologized for any inconvenience caused and thanked patrons for their understanding and support during this time.

Unfortunately, his X account was hacked yesterday, and a tweet was sent from the B-town celebrity’s official profile. On July 28, he published a post indicating that his account had been hijacked.

On the evening of July 28, Javed Akhtar used his X account to notify his admirers that his account had been compromised. The screenwriter, lyricist, and poet also revealed that a post about the Indian squad at the upcoming Paris Olympics 2024 was not made by him, but rather by some hackers. It appears that the tweet in question has been removed.

The tweet ‘regarding our Indian team for Olympics’ that Javed mentioned in his most recent tweet is currently not available on his timeline. Someone else wrote, “I have not seen any tweet from you… I hope issue will be resolved soon.”

On Sunday, various celebrities congratulated Manu Bhaker for winning the bronze medal in Women’s 10 M Air Pistol at the Paris Olympics.

It is common to see not just Bollywood stars but even their offspring buying expensive properties in prime areas. Aryan Khan, son of superstar Shah Rukh Khan, is the latest to join this bandwagon. As per reports, he has bought a sprawling space in India’s capital, Delhi, for a whopping price.

According to an article in The Economic Times, Aryan has brought two floors in the elite Panchsheel Park locality in South Delhi. He paid Rs. 37 crores to acquire this space. Interestingly, this is the same building where his mother Gauri Khan used to live before her marriage to SRK. The family already owns the basement and ground floor of the building, as per The Economic Times.

The article further states that the property was registered in May 2024 and Aryan paid Rs. 2.64 crores as stamp duty. Further, Gauri Khan has designed the house.

This is probably the first property bought by Aryan Khan. His actor-sister Suhana Khan purchased a 1.5-acre property with three houses in Alibaug for Rs 12.91 crores in June 2023. It was next to Shah Rukh Khan’s sprawling bungalow in the coastal town of Maharashtra. Earlier this year, she bought one more land parcel in Alibaug for more than Rs. 10 crores.

Many celebrities have bought land or bungalows in places like Alibaug, Goa but to see such a high-value transaction in Delhi is rare. The Economic Times article quotes Pradeep Prajapati of boutique real estate consultancy firm Wealthvisory Capital who said that recently, Amitabh Bachchan had also sold his Gulmohar Park property in South Delhi for around Rs. 23 crores.

On the work front, Aryan Khan is shooting for his debut directorial web series, Stardom. The shoot is reportedly over. Lakshya of Kill fame is the leading actor along with Mona Singh and others. Shah Rukh Khan, Ranbir Kapoor, Ranveer Singh, Bobby Deol, Karan Johar etc. reportedly feature in the show in cameos.

The incident occurred during the song launch of ‘Hauli Hauli’ from Taapsee’s upcoming film, Khel Khel Mein. A viral video was captured when influencer Ananya Dwivedi approached Taapsee for a selfie, only to be turned down.

Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh is set to take on a challenging new role as an R&AW agent in Aditya Dhar’s upcoming action thriller. According to a recent report by Mid-Day, the film promises to be a high-octane espionage drama, drawing inspiration from a real-life mission undertaken by India’s current National Security Advisor, Ajit Doval.

The report further states that to capture the essence of the story, the film’s production will span multiple locations. The team is slated to commence shooting in Thailand, followed by a schedule in Canada, before wrapping up in Mumbai. 

Giving details of the other characters in the film, the report added Akshaye Khanna, R Madhavan, and Arjun Rampal are playing fellow intelligence officers, while Sanjay Dutt is set to portray the antagonist.

It is worth mentioning that the report was published a day after Ranveer Singh made the official announcement to confirm his collaboration with Aditya Dhar. In an Instagram post, the actor wrote, “This one is for my fans, who have been so patient with me, and been clamouring for a turn like this. I love you all, and I promise you, this time, a cinematic experience like never before.”

Ranbir Kapoor has candidly addressed the polarizing response to his recent blockbuster, Animal. The film, directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga, ignited a fierce debate upon its release, with critics and audiences divided over its portrayal of masculinity and violence. In the latest episode of “People by WTF,” host Nikhil Kamath engages in a conversation with Ranbir Kapoor. Kapoor delves deep into his personal and professional life, discussing milestones, challenges, and the surprising commonalities between him and Kamath.

In the interview, Kapoor revealed the emotional toll the film’s aftermath has taken on him. While Animal emerged as a massive commercial success, solidifying Kapoor’s position as a leading Bollywood star, the film’s content drew significant criticism, particularly regarding its depiction of women.

“I was scared when I first heard the story,” Kapoor admitted. The actor explained that he was eager to break free from his “good boy” image and that Animal offered a chance to showcase a different facet of his acting abilities. However, the film’s controversial themes led to a mixed reception, with some praising Kapoor’s performance while others vehemently criticized the film’s overall tone. When the host said that society shouldn’t derive morality from the movies, Ranbir agreed and said, “That was the intention, but it was misconstrued.”

“Social media played havoc. They needed something to talk about, so they really went to town claiming it was a misogynistic film. What happens is that the hard work that you put in… I know the director had made Kabir Singh, which also faced the same thing, the hard work gets diminished. Because it gets this tag, which isn’t true, the perception stayed with this film. So, the general public will speak very fondly about the film, but there are many people I meet, who tell me, ‘You shouldn’t have done this film, we are so disappointed in you’,” Kapoor said.

The backlash against Animal extended beyond the general public. Kapoor revealed that he faced disappointment from within the industry, with several colleagues expressing their disapproval of his choice. “A lot of people from the film industry told me they were disappointed in me,” he shared. “I quietly apologize and say, ‘Sorry I won’t do it next time.’ I don’t really agree with them, but I am in that phase of my life I don’t argue with anyone. If you don’t like my work, I will say I am sorry, I will try harder next time,” he added.

Despite the controversies, Kapoor remains convinced that Animal was the right film at the right time for his career. It pushed him out of his comfort zone and revitalized his image. “I had always been following a career path where I was doing good roles, trying to give good social messages, play the ‘good boy’ basically, the coming-of-age romantic image that I had. So, I found this very bold, adult-rated. I was scared that maybe the audience will not accept me. When the film was released, even though it did amazing numbers and we got a lot of love, there is a big audience which found the film misogynist and wrong, in some way,” the actor said.

When asked if the film were to be offered to him today and whether he would do it, he added, “I was stagnating and hitting a saturation point in my career. I was called the ‘next superstar’ for a very long time–and I am not saying I am that today, because unless you have those continuous blockbuster films, you can’t be called a superstar–but Animal was the correct film at the right time, to take another step up. Because I had been flatlining in the same status, so that was very important for me, for my confidence, to shift from a boy to a man in some ways.”

Helmed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga, the film also starred Anil Kapoor, Bobby Deol, Rashmika Mandanna and Triptii Dimri.

Back in 2023, Kartik Aaryan announced that he was teaming up with Karan Johar and Ekta Kapoor for the first time on an epic war film. The announcement created a stir on social media as it indicated a patch up between Kartik and Karan after a public fallout in the midst of shooting for Dostana. The film was to be directed by Sandeep Modi and slated to go on floors in October this year.

However, Bollywood Hungama has learnt from exclusive sources that Karan Johar has put his next with Kartik Aaryan on hold. “There is an overdose of patriotic films set against the backdrop of wars. Karan has identified the market trends after Yoddha and has decided to put Sandeep Modi and Kartik Aaryan’s next on hold,” a source told Bollywood Hungama.

That’s not all. Karan has put one more film on hold. It’s known to all that Karan Johar was teaming up with Salman Khan for the first time on Bull with Vishnu Vardhan as director. However, that film is also no longer happening. “Both Karan and Salman have officially moved on with the hope of collaborating in the future,” the source told us further.

Karan is now actively working on getting a lineup for Dharma Productions for 2025 and 2026.
