The Akshay Kumar-starrer Sarfira is all set to release this Friday, July 12. The makers completed the censor process in time and Bollywood Hungama, in this article, will focus on this aspect.

The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) passed Sarfira with a ‘U’ certificate. However, the Examining Committee asked for a major modification. The film has certain abuses and all these terms were replaced with appropriate words. Secondly, the makers had to provide a declaration that the film was based on true events. They also had to hand over supporting documents for the same. In the declaration, the makers further explained the scene where the protagonist Vir Mhatre (Akshay Kumar) meets the former President of India, Dr APJ Abdul Kalam. They also clarified the usage of names of prominent industrialists and brands. Lastly, an NOC from the Ministry of Defence was attached to the declaration.

Once the CBFC members were satisfied, they passed the film on July 4. The duration of the movie, as per the censor certificate, is 155 minutes. In other words, Sarfira is 2 hours and 35 minutes long.

Interestingly, Sarfira is the official remake of the 2020 acclaimed flick Soorarai Pottru, starring Suriya. That flick had a run time of 2 hours and 29 minutes. In other words, the remake is 6 minutes longer than the original movie. And that’s not all. The Hindi dubbed version of Soorarai Pottru, Udaan, is even shorter, with a duration of 2 hours and 21 minutes.

Sarfira is inspired by the events from the life of G R Gopinath, founder of Indian low-cost airline Air Deccan. Suriya, who played the lead in Soorarai Pottru, appears in a cameo in the film. He is also one of the producers of both films. While the original film and its dubbed version were released directly on Amazon Prime Video, Sarfira will have a release in cinemas.

Earlier in the day, there were murmurs that Sarfira might get postponed due to Kalki 2898 AD wave. But as per our sources, the film is on track. Yesterday, a grand screening of the film was held in Delhi, which was attended by Akshay Kumar and Radhika Madan.

The transaction, registered on June 10, 2024, was valued at Rs 18.94 crore, including a stamp duty of Rs 1.13 crore and registration fees of Rs 30,000. MAMI Mumbai Film Festival reunites with Royal Stag Barrel Select Large Short Films to create a platform to celebrate excellence in short films. This collaboration not only provides upcoming filmmakers the opportunity to showcase their talent on a global platform but also highlights brilliance in filmmaking, acting, and introduces innovative uses of technology for the first time, pushing the boundaries of creativity. Actress Taapsee Pannu recently expressed disappointment with her production venture, the 2023 film Dhak Dhak. Starring Ratna Pathak Shah, Fatima Sana Shaikh, Dia Mirza, and Sanjana Sanghi, the film had a lacklustre theatrical run despite featuring a talented ensemble cast.

Dhak Dhak’s problems began before its release. The film’s marketing campaign was practically non-existent, with the trailer dropping four days ahead of its October 13, 2023 premiere. This lack of promotion foreshadowed the issues that would plague the film. Pannu, who also served as a co-producer for Dhak Dhak, took a drastic step – she disassociated herself from the film’s promotion by removing all related posts from her social media.

In a recent interview with The Indian Express, Pannu finally revealed the reason behind her actions. It turned out her frustration stemmed from the co-producers abandoning the film after recouping their investment. “It was very heartbreaking,” Pannu confessed. “I did not become a producer to have an alternate career. I was doing pretty well as an actor.

Pannu emphasized that she ventured into production to back films she wasn’t directly involved in as an actress. Dhak Dhak, a film she wasn’t starring in, represented this vision. However, the experience left a bitter taste in her mouth.

She explained the harsh reality of the film industry for smaller productions. “If it’s not a big-budget film, studios recover the money before the film hits theatres,” Pannu said.

This lack of post-production support has a domino effect. With studios disinterested in spending on prints and advertising (P&A), exhibitors become hesitant to screen the film. They see it as a niche offering with limited commercial appeal, leading them to allocate unfavourable show timings and theatres. Dhak Dhak reportedly suffered from such treatment, with abrupt removals mid-week further hindering its chances of finding an audience.

“We started showing the film 4-5 days after the film’s trailer came out,” Pannu said, highlighting the film’s uphill battle from the very beginning. “People started coming to us saying they’ll help promote it.” Despite the public’s willingness to support the film, Pannu felt abandoned by her co-producers who, according to her, lacked the commitment to see the project through.

“They instead said, ‘Why bother? It’s already made its money and now it will find its audience’,” Pannu recounted, expressing her disappointment with their attitude.

However, a silver lining emerged amidst the frustration. The film’s four lead actresses, including Pannu herself, stood by Dhak Dhak. Dia Mirza, in a commendable act of solidarity, even offered her home as a venue for promotional interviews with the cast. “I have never seen many actors taking ownership of a film like that,” Pannu said, expressing her pride in being associated with such dedicated colleagues.

Dhak Dhak is a story about four ordinary women and their journey of self-discovery as they take a biking trip from Delhi to Khardung La.

Manisha Koirala has never hesitated to discuss her professional and personal experiences in Bollywood. In a recent interview with Filmfare, the actor discussed the misogyny that dominated the Indian cinema business in the 1990s. Manisha revealed that female actresses were required to deny using alcohol and conceal their dating life at the time.

Recalling her experiences in 1990s, the actress said, “At the time of Saudagar, there was a coke mixed with vodka, and I was told by people around me not not tell people that I am drinking vodka because actresses are not meant to be drinking alcohol. I was told to say that I’m drinking coke. I learnt that new thing. I told my mom, ‘I am drinking coke’, and she knew I put vodka in it and she said, ‘Listen, if you are drinking vodka, say you are drinking vodka, don’t say you are drinking coke, don’t lie for such small little things’. If I was dating somebody, I am dating somebody. You want to judge me? Go ahead and judge me but that’s me, this is me and I lead my life on my own terms.”

She further opined, “I faced some flak for it because in those days, the heroes could have many girlfriends, and they were called macho men, but the actress was supposed to be this, ‘no no no, nobody is touching me’ and ‘we are very untouched.’ It was also misunderstood that (she is) very easy or easy girl. But I took it on my stride. Just because I have a personal life or I have a boyfriend doesn’t mean I am going to be unprofessional in my life. I love my work. We had some very warped value system for actresses, which didn’t go well with me.”

On the work front, Manisha made her debut with Subhash Ghai’s Saudagar. She been praised for her debut on OTT with Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar.

Just a day ago, Bollywood Hungama in an exclusive newsbreak revealed that the Ajay Devgn, Tabu starrer romantic drama Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha was slated to release on August 2. Now confirming the same, the Singham actor has confirmed the new release date of the Neeraj Pandey directorial on social media. For the unversed, the film was initially slated for a release in July.

Taking to the social media platform X, aka Twitter, Ajay Devgn shared the poster of the film along with a note talking about the release date of the film, wherein he wrote, “The wait ends on 2nd August! ❤ #AuronMeinKahanDumTha #AMKDTonAug2”. Just a day ago ago, a source had revealed these details of Bollywood Hungama, “Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha will now be released on August 2. The makers were contemplating to release the film in the second week of July but then, they settled for August 2.” As per these sources, the film was pushed ahead as Kalki 2898 AD, starring Prabhas, Amitabh Bachchan and Kamal Haasan, is super-strong and the makers of the former, hence, would have struggled to get sufficient shows.  An exhibitor commented, “August 2 is a good date. Deadpool & Wolverine releases on July 26. Two big films releasing on that day again would not have been ideal.”

Clash with Sabarmati Report averted

Just a few hours ago, Bollywood Hungama exclusively reported that another film which was slated to release on August 2, which is the Vikrant Massey, Raashii Khanna, Ridhi Dogra starrer The Sabarmati Report has been postponed to the final quarter of the year. And now, with the release date of AMKDT confirmed, it seems that the film will only be clashing with another film Ulajh – a political action thriller starring Janhvi Kapoor in the lead.

The banter further continued with this ex-Bigg Boss contestant responding to the statement by stating that she cannot compare a polygamous relationship with an interfaith marriage because they are never the same. In her note, she wrote, “A person needs a higher level of knowledge to compare interfaith marriage with POLYGAMY, which I am sure intelligent people are quite aware of. And it’s not only my right, but it’s every Indian’s right to stand against such an illegal act like polygamy, which they are quite proud to flaunt on national television.”

She further continued, “Anyways, it’s a matter of individual fate. Just don’t make a mockery of the lives of those poor women who suffer every day and night because of this nonsense and die a little each day. Otherwise, do whatever you want inside your home. Why stop at two? Have 2, 4, or 5 marriages. Just don’t spread this disease in society. Each & Every word i said i mean it & still stand by it. And anyway it’s not new to me, people making YouTube content on me. Please do the honour.”

“Also, even if my husband is muslim he is too loyal to his wife neither he is interested in POLYGAMY and we took 4 years to understand & then got married. Not in merely 7 days.
