Junaid Khan, son of Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan, is poised to make his much-anticipated debut in the film industry this year. Fresh off the announcement of his historical drama Maharaj releasing on Netflix soon, Junaid has already plunged into his next project, a yet-untitled romantic comedy. This film, directed by Advait Chandan, renowned for Secret Superstar and Laal Singh Chaddha, will see Junaid venturing into the rom-com genre opposite Khushi Kapoor, daughter of the late legendary actress Sridevi and producer Boney Kapoor.

According to a report in Hindustan Times, the initial phase of the shooting took place in Mumbai, with the Seven Eleven Club banquet hall in Mira Road serving as the primary location for the first few days. The team aimed to complete all outdoor filming by mid-June to avoid the monsoon season’s disruptions. Now, the production has moved to the Delhi-NCR region for its second shoot schedule, which commenced three to four days ago. The team plans to remain in Delhi for another 10-12 days.

A source close to the production revealed, “The first leg of the shoot wrapped up in Mumbai, and now the duo is filming in the Capital. The supporting cast has been joining the shoot as and when needed, but Junaid and Khushi are going to be here for the entire schedule.” The source added that the film, still untitled, is slated for a theatrical release.

The Delhi schedule focuses primarily on the romantic sequences between Junaid and Khushi. “The lead actors have come to Delhi mainly to shoot the romantic portions. It will mostly be daytime shoots, and so far, there are no night shoots planned. Over the next few days, both indoor and outdoor shoots are planned,” the source elaborated. The shooting locations in Delhi are set to vary, moving between Noida, Greater Noida, and various parts of Delhi.

Another insider detailed the diverse shooting locations planned for the Delhi-NCR schedule, “The team has plans to shoot around Noida sector 30, Sunder Nursery, and Connaught Place. They are mostly moving shots from one place to another and are not staying put in one place. To capture the college vibe, some scenes will be shot in a university and hostel in Noida.”

The upcoming film is a Hindi adaptation of the 2022 Tamil hit Love Today, which was both directed by and starred Pradeep Ranganathan. The Hindi remake is being produced by Shristi Behl and Phantom Films. Notably, this project marks the return of Phantom Films to production after a significant hiatus.

The Bombay High Court has cleared the way for the release of the film Hamare Baarah, starring actor Annu Kapoor. The court dismissed petitions challenging the movie, stating it found nothing objectionable in the film’s content that could be seen as offensive to the Muslim community or the Quran.

Court’s observations on Hamare Baarah:

Focus on Women’s Empowerment: The judges observed that Hamare Baarah actually promotes the upliftment of women. They highlighted a scene where a Muslim man confronts a Maulana who misinterprets the Quran. The court viewed this as a message encouraging critical thinking and not blindly following religious figures.
No Incitement to Violence: The court firmly stated that the movie wouldn’t incite violence and that the Indian public is discerning enough not to be misled.

Background of the Hamare Baarah controversy:
Earlier in June, petitions were filed against the film, alleging it portrayed the Muslim community in a negative light and misrepresented the Quran. The High Court initially delayed the release, but later allowed it with the condition that certain scenes deemed objectionable by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) be removed.
Court’s warning on Hamare Baarah trailer and religious sensitivity:
The court did criticize the film’s makers for releasing the initial trailer before receiving CBFC certification. A penalty will be imposed, with the amount directed towards a charity chosen by the petitioners.

While acknowledging creative freedom, the court cautioned filmmakers to be mindful of content that could hurt religious sentiments. They emphasized that respect for all religions, including Islam (India’s second-largest), is crucial.

The petitioners also raised concerns about the film promoting domestic violence. The court countered this by stating that domestic violence isn’t restricted to a specific community.

Fresh off its Grand Prix win at the 77th Cannes Film Festival, Payal Kapadia’s much-awaited feature film All We Imagine as Light is ready to captivate audiences at the 2024 Munich International Film Festival. The film has secured a coveted spot in the CineMasters Competition, the prestigious main section of the festival.

The Munich International Film Festival, Germany’s second-largest after Berlin, boasts a rich history of showcasing global cinematic excellence. All We Imagine as Light will be competing against 13 other films, vying for the festival’s top awards. This inclusion marks a significant moment for Indian cinema, not only because the film is Kapadia’s debut, but also because it represents the first time an Indian film directed by a woman has been featured in the Cannes competition.

The Grand Prix win at Cannes has catapulted Kapadia into the international spotlight. The award was the second-highest honour bestowed by the festival.

According to a report in Deadline, the film All We Imagine As Light was shot over a period of 40 days, capturing the essence of late summer in Mumbai before transitioning to the rainy coastal town of Ratnagiri. The report further states that All We Imagine As Light is a French-Indian co-production, in collaboration with Paris-based producers Hakim and Julien Graff (Petit Chaos) and Zico Maitra of Mumbai’s Chalk & Cheese Films.

As per the official Cannes website, the film, presented in both Malayalam and Hindi, follows the lives of Nurse Prabha’s life in Mumbai which is disrupted by a surprise gift from her estranged husband. The unexpected gesture throws her routine into disarray. Sharing a cramped apartment with her younger roommate, Anu, tensions rise as Anu desperately searches for a private space to be with her boyfriend. The city offers no solace, forcing them to dream of escape. A weekend trip to a quieter beach town finally grants Anu the intimacy she craves. Freed from the constraints of Mumbai, their desires find a way to blossom under the open sky.

Payal Kapadia gained international recognition with her 2021 documentary A Night of Knowing Nothing, which premiered in the Director’s Fortnight section at Cannes and went on to win the Golden Eye for best documentary.

On June 18, Salman Khan started shooting for Sikandar after the film went on floors in Mumbai. We hear that the team will also be shooting a massive mid-air action sequence with the megastar. While Sajid Nadiadwala shared a series of photos on the official social media page of his production house as the film was taking off, on June 19, Khan along with Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment took to social media to share a BTS image from the first day of shoot to announce the beginning of a new journey. In the BTS picture, the trio of Salman, Sajid and Murugadoss are seen sharing a laugh on the sets, setting the tone right for the schedule ahead. He captioned the photo saying, “Looking forward to #Eid2025 with team #Sikandar” along with tagging the core team of the movie.

According to reports, actor Abhishek Bachchan has added to his real estate portfolio by purchasing six apartments in Mumbai’s Borivali area. The total cost of these properties is estimated to be Rs 15.42 crore.

Details of Abhishek Bachchan’s property purchase
As per documents accessed by Zapkey.com, the apartments are located in the Oberoi Sky City project by Oberoi Realty. The total carpet area of these six units is 4,894 sq ft, signifying a per sq ft rate of Rs 31,498. Money Control reports that the sale was finalised in May 2024.

The property registration documents reveal details on the individual apartments:

First apartment: Carpet area of 1,101 sq ft, purchased for Rs 3.42 crore.
Second and Third apartments: Each with a 252 sq ft area, priced at Rs 79 lakh each.
Fourth and Fifth apartments: Carpet areas of 1,101 sq ft and 1,094 sq ft, sold for Rs 3.52 crore and Rs 3.39 crore respectively.
Sixth apartment: Also priced at Rs 3.39 crore.

The apartments are situated on the 57th floor of a high-rise building along the Western Express Highway (WEH) in Borivali East. Notably, the building has already received its occupation certificate.
Abhishek Bachchan’s real estate investments
This isn’t the first time Abhishek Bachchan has ventured into real estate investments. In August 2021, he sold a Worli apartment, also developed by Oberoi Realty, for Rs 45.75 crore. Interestingly, the actor had purchased the Worli property in 2014 for over Rs 41 crore.

Netflix and Yash Raj Films (YRF) are challenging a temporary stay order on the release of Maharaj, a film featuring actor Aamir Khan’s son Junaid Khan. The Gujarat High Court is scheduled to hear the case again on Wednesday, June 19, 2024, to decide whether the stay order will be lifted or extended.

Movie based on historical Libel case
Maharaj is based on the Maharaj Libel Case of 1862, a landmark case adjudicated by British judges. The case stemmed from a libel suit filed by religious leader Jadunathji against social reformer Karsandas Mulji. An article published in a weekly newspaper edited by Mulji alleged that Jadunathji had inappropriate relationships with female followers and expected devotees to offer their wives for sex. Mulji won the case.
Legal dispute over Maharaj’s release
On June 13, a day before the film’s scheduled release on Netflix, the High Court had ordered an interim stay on the release after hearing a petition filed by a group claiming to be devotees of Lord Krishna from the Vaishnavite Pustimargi sect.

The petitioners objected to the movie’s release, arguing that excerpts contain “scandalous and defamatory language, which affects the Pustimargi sect as a whole” and that the release of the movie “is likely to incite feelings of hatred and violence against the Pustimargi sect, which would be in breach of code of ethics under the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021.”
Netflix’s arguments in Maharaj stay case
Netflix and YRF argue that the petitioners are attempting to curtail the portrayal of factual events from legal history. They further argue that the movie has already secured certification from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) and that the film does not depict the parts considered “scandalous” by the petitioners.
