Akshay Kumar was all set to walk the red carpet at Cannes 2022. He was one among the several Indian celebrities who will be a part of the Indian delegation to the Cannes Film Festival on May 17. The delegation will be led by Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting Anurag Thakur. However, Akshay Kumar will no longer be a part of the delegation as the actor has tested positive for COVID-19 three days before he was scheduled to walk the red carpet at the prestigious film festival representing India.

On Saturday night, Akshay Kumar took to his Twitter handle and wrote, “Was really looking forward to rooting for our cinema at the India Pavilion at #Cannes2022, but have sadly tested positive for Covid. Will rest it out. Loads of best wishes to you and your entire team, @ianuragthakur. Will really miss being there.”

Meanwhile, the Indian celebrities who will be a part of the delegation are Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Nayanthara, Pooja Hegde, Tamannaah Bhatia, AR Rahman, and R Madhavan. Actor Hina Khan will also be returning to the film festival this year. She made her debut on the Cannes Red carpet in 2019 for the poster launch of her film Lines. This year, the actress will be attending the poster launch of her Indo-English film Country of Blind.

R Madhavan will be attending the film festival for his upcoming film Rocketry- The Nambi Effect. The film will receive its world premiere in Cannes on May 19 as part of the celebration of India as the official country of honor at the Cannes Market this year. The biographical drama was shot simultaneously in multiple languages including Hindi, Tamil, and English, with the English version showing in Cannes. The theatrical release is set for July 1 and will also feature Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada versions.

South Korean actor Kim Min Seok will reportedly return to play the lead role in the second season of Shark.

As Korea JoongAng Daily reports, Shark, a Tving original series, is a coming-of-age story about a boy named Cha Woo Sol (Kim Min Seok) who becomes an MMA champion. Woo Sol, a victim of school violence, lands in juvenile prison after stabbing a student, who cruelly bullied him for three years. In prison, Woo Sol meets former MMA champion Jung Do Hyun (Wi Ha Joon), who teaches him how to fight. The first part, titled Shark: The Beginning, was released on Tving as a film last year.

On the work front, Kim Min Seok is well known for his roles in the dramas Descendants of the sun, Innocent Defendant and The Doctors. He debuted as an actor in tvN’s Shut Up! Flower Boy Band.

Shark will reportedly begin production in July.

South Korean fantasy drama The Sound of Magic, starring Ji Chang Wook, Choi Sung Eun and Hwang In Youp, scored No. 4 position on global Netflix chart.

The musical drama ranked seventh on Netflix’s global chart as of Saturday, a day after its release, before climbing up to land at the fourth slot on Sunday, according to data released by streaming analytics firm FlixPatrol. As Korean tabloid Yon Hap News reports, The Sound of Magic, helmed by director Kim Seong Yoon, became the most popular TV show in 13 countries, including Bangladesh, Indonesia, Jordan, Kuwait, Malaysia, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. It ranked second in Japan, Bahrain, Egypt, India, Morocco and Thailand and third in Nigeria, Singapore and Vietnam. The new show placed seventh in South Korea.

The Sound of Magic was reportedly the first non-thriller series to make it to the top 10 list. Adapted from a fantasy webtoon of the same title, the six-part series tells a story about mysterious magician Lee Eul (Ji Chang Wook) who helps a teenage high school student, named Ah Yi (Choi Sung Eun), find her own dreams with his magic. “It explores what it means to be an adult, the real meaning of happiness and how we want our children to be raised from Ah Yi’s perspective, questions that arise after she meets a mysterious magician named Ri Eul.”

SBS’ romantic comedy Business Proposal and tvN’s Twenty Five Twenty One ranked at No. 7 and No. 10, respectively.

South Korean pop group Stray Kids’ EP ‘Oddinary’, which was released on March 18, has become the band’s second million-seller, following second studio album ‘Noeasy’ last year.

According to Korea JoongAng Daily, Stray Kids sold over 1 million copies of its EP Oddinary. The EP was certified with the ‘million badge,’ which indicates that the album had surpassed 1 million copies in sales. Albums that sell more than 250,000 copies are certified with the ‘platinum badge.’ Oddinary recorded around 1.3 million copies in pre-orders and sold 853,021 copies in its first week of release, according to album sales tracker Hanteo Chart.

It also reigned atop the Billboard main albums chart upon its release, leading Stray Kids to become the third K-pop act to achieve the feat, following BTS and SuperM. The group kicked off their second world tour in Seoul on April 29 and will perform in 10 more cities around the world including Tokyo, Chicago and Los Angeles until June 27.

Stray Kids comprises of 8 members: Bang Chan, Lee Know, Changbin, Hyunjin, Han, Felix, Seungmin and I.N. The band made their official debut with the EP ‘I am NOT’ in 2018. The band is known for hits such as “My Pace” (2018), “Miroh” (2019), “God’s Menu” (2020), “Back Door” (2020) and “Thunderous” (2021).

Welcome to Wrexham, a documentary which is set to cover the on-field and off-field activities of football team Wrexham AFC, is set to premiere on Wednesday, August 24, FX network announced.

According to Collider’s report, the premiere of the series on FX will include the first two episodes, with episodes streaming the next day on Hulu. The docuseries follows the Wrexham Red Dragons, a struggling team in the National League, the 5th tier of the English Football League, and the oldest professional football club in the world. The team was purchased by Reynolds and McElhenney via their RR McReynolds Company LLC banner in November 2020 and they were officially named the owners of the club in February 2021.

The pair have no experience in running a football team or any experience in the sport at all and have never worked together before, but hope that they will be able to craft an underdog story for the Welsh football club. The docuseries will follow their escapades as they attempt to turn the team around and get the whole world behind them. McElhenney and Reynolds will serve as executive producers on the series alongside Nick Frenkel and John Henion. Per the repot, FX has already given the series a second season order.

Alan Ritchson has reportedly joined the all-star cast of the 10th entry in the Fast & Furious franchise.

According to Deadline, Ritchson joins as the pic just set Louis Letterier to replace Justin Lin as director. The film is in production with Vin Diesel and the core Fast cast returning alongside franchise newcomers Jason Momoa and Brie Larson. Lin and Dan Mazeau co-wrote the script. Lin will also stay on as a producer along with Diesel, Neal Moritz, Jeff Kirschenbaum and Samantha Vincent.

Alan Ritchson currently stars on Amazon Prime’s Jack Reacher, playing former soldier Jack Reacher. The series recently wrapped up its first season, and has been renewed for a second and Amazon recently signed Ritchson to a three-movie deal. He also starred as Hawk for three seasons on HBO Max series Titans. Up next, Reacher will appear in Ordinary Angels, opposite Hilary Swank.

Fast X will see the return of Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, Jordana Brewster, Nathalie Emmanuel, Sung Kang, Michael Rooker, and Charlize Theron with newcomers including Jason Momoa, Daniela Melchior, and Brie Larson. Lin, who returned to the franchise with 2021’s F9: The Fast Saga, was set to direct both the 10th and 11th film in the franchise, with the 11th film set to be the final Fast installment. The director previously helmed The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift (2006), Fast & Furious (2009), Fast Five (2011), Fast & Furious 6 (2013), and F9 (2021).

Directed by Louis Letterier, Fast X is currently set to hit theaters on May 19, 2023.

South Korean female group aespa has been chosen as one of Time magazine’s Next Generation Leaders.

According to Korea JoongAng Daily, the group’s label SM Entertainment announced Friday that the group to be chosen as one of Time magazine’s Next Generation Leaders. With Next Generation Leaders, Time introduces trend setters from around the world who are making an impact, ranging from singers and actors to athletes and scientists. South Korean juggernaut BTS and model Irene Kim have previously made the list. In “How K-Pop Group aespa Is Making the Metaverse Their Home,” Time explained aespa’s records and conducted a short interview with the members.

“Having launched in the thick of the pandemic in November 2020, aespa has only existed in a world in crisis,” the article reads. “But there’s something that sets them apart: aespa also exists as four virtual avatars, each carefully crafted to match their human counterpart, in a fantastical metaverse. Now, they’re ready to prove they’re more than just what fans have seen on screens.” Member Giselle also spoke about the metaverse concept, sharing that their goal is to “normalize metaverse concepts and have our fans and other people be a little more comfortable with the whole idea of it.”

Comprising of four members: Giselle, Karina, Ningning, and Winter, the group debuted in November 2020 under SM Entertainment label with their debut single, “Black Mamba” which was commercially successful.

The magazine has been releasing a list of trendsetters and trailblazers since 2014. The nine others beside aespa named in the list include Kyiv Independent’s chief editor Olga Rudenko, Jonathan Bailey of Bridgerton, YouTuber Deepica Mutyala, musician CKay, barista Jaz Brisack, conservationist Rinzin Phunjok Lama, youngest Mongolian parliamentarian Bolor-Erdene Battsengel, creative director of Salvatore Ferragamo Maximilian Davis, and queer, trans-feminine, Muslim actor-playwright Bilal Baig.
