T-Series’ talent Jubin Nautiyal clears the air and pens an open letter to the CEO of Believe over spreading misinformation in their e-mailers on signing the versatile singer and including him under their talent pool.

In the letter, Jubin Nautiyal mentions, “This news is not only false, misleading but a deliberate misrepresentation on your part to the trade, distributing partners and the general public. This sort of cheap publicity stunt at my behest to gain some mileage by a company of your stature is absolutely not acceptable. I have also been advised to point out that this act on your part amounts to misappropriation of my personality rights as well as tortious interference with my contracts.”

He further adds, “Please be informed I am still an exclusive artist with T-Series and have not signed any contract with Believe and would like you to immediately withdraw these emails and issue a clarification to all the distribution partners to whom this email has been sent and also issue a public statement and apology to this effect.”

South Korean drama starring Kim Sejeong, Nam Yoon Su and Choi Daniel, Today’s Webtoon (literal title), a Korean remake of the popular 2016 Japanese drama Sleepeeer Hit!, is slated to premiere on July 29.

As Korean tabloid Soompi reports, the drama will tell the story of On Ma Eum (Kim Sejeong), a former judo athlete who joins the webtoon editorial department as a new employee and struggles in order to mature into a true webtoon editor amidst South Korea’s competitive webtoon industry. Nam Yoon Su will star as Goo Joon Young who grows to be more like On Ma Eum by sincerely putting his heart and soul into everything after reflecting back on himself.

Choi Daniel, who is about to make a comeback to the small screen after 4 years, will be taking on the role of Seok Ji Hyung, an unpredictable deputy editor with an unreadable poker face who becomes a dependable mentor for On Ma Eum. Although he can be brutally honest, Seok Ji Hyung is also a supportive editor who takes good care of his younger colleagues who also has a clumsier side.

The producers shared, “We recently wrapped up reading practice and began filming. Kim Sejeong, Choi Daniel, Nam Yoon Su, and the rest of the main cast is creating a warm and relatable office drama through their perfect character synchronization and sincerity. Their office place chemistry is better than expected so it feels like we’ve received a lot of support. We will seek you out on July 29 with a drama that conveys comfort and relatable content to youth who are standing at a crossroads of dreams and reality, as well as a message of support to office workers who are doing their best in their positions.”

Directed by producing director (PD) Jo Soo Won, whose work credits include I Hear Your Voice, Pinocchio, 30 But 17, and Doctor John, Today’s Webtoon will start airing from June 29 this year.

The Pirates of the Caribbean star Johnny Depp, who is set to portray a controversial French King Louis XV in historical drama film Jeanne Du Barry, will be launched for pre-sales at this month’s Cannes market.

In a report from ScreenDaily about Wild Bunch’s Cannes market slate, the trade confirms previous reports that Depp will star alongside Maïwenn in the French period drama about Jeanne Bécu, a woman born into poverty but who rose through the ranks of the court of King Louis XV to become his mistress. Depp will play Louis XV (nicknamed ‘Louis The Beloved’) opposite actress and filmmaker Maïwenn who will also direct. Louis Garrel, Pierre Richard and Noemie Lvovsky are also set to star. The start date has yet to be revealed.

This report comes amid the ongoing legal proceedings involving Depp and his former wife Amber Heard, with Depp suing the actress for libel after she penned an op-ed about their past marriage in The Washington Post, in which she claimed that the actor verbally and physically abused her throughout their relationship. Depp and Heard’s legal troubles have gone on for several years now, after Heard divorced the actor and obtained a temporary restraining order from him in May of 2016. The proceedings most recently led to a judge denying the motion from Heard’s camp to dismiss the case.

The public legal battle had made Depp persona non grata in certain industry circles, including Warner Bros dropping him from its Fantastic Beasts franchise and Disney from Pirates of the Caribbean 6. Depp’s last film was Andrew Levitas’s 2020 film Minamata which he also co-produced.

“It can be seen as an event in history that lasted for however long it lasted, this cancel culture, this instant rush to judgement based on what essentially amounts to polluted air,” Depp claimed in a 2021 interview. “It’s so far out of hand now that I can promise you that no one is safe. Not one of you. No one out that door. No one is safe. It takes one sentence and there’s no more ground, the carpet has been pulled. It’s not just me that this has happened to, it’s happened to a lot of people. This type of thing has happened to women, men. Sadly at a certain point they begin to think that it’s normal. Or that it’s them. When it’s not.”

 It was earlier announced that Hindi film actor Deepika Padukone will be a jury member at the upcoming Cannes Film Festival 2022. Deepika Padukone, who has been regular on the red carpets of Cannes, is expected to be making an appearance on all 10 days. However. Deepika will not be the only India to make an appearance at Cannes.

Several Indian celebrities will be a part of the Indian delegation to the Cannes film festival on May 17. The delegation will be led by Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting Anurag Thakur. India and France will be celebrating 75 years of their association at the event.

The Indian celebrities who will be a part of the delegation are Akshay Kumar, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Nayanthara, Pooja Hegde, Tamannaah Bhatia, AR Rahman, and R Madhavan. Actor Hina Khan will also be returning to the film festival this year. She made her debut at the Cannes Red carpet in 2019 for the poster launch of her film Lines. This year, the actress will be attending the poster launch of her Indo-English film Country of Blind.

R Madhavan will be attending the film festival for his upcoming film Rocketry- The Nambi Effect. The film will receive its world premiere in Cannes on May 19 as part of the celebration of India as the official country of honor at the Cannes Market this year. The biographical drama was shot simultaneously in multiple languages including Hindi, Tamil, and English, with the English version showing in Cannes. The theatrical release is set for July 1 and will also feature Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada versions.

Just yesterday, the makers of the Ranveer Singh starrer Cirkus release the first look of the film along with an announcement of the film’s release date. Interestingly, the Rohit Shetty film will hit screens on December 23, 2022. While the news of the film releasing on Christmas made headlines, we at Bollywood Hungama realized the new announcement has led to a massive three-way clash at the box office this Christmas. In fact, come December 23, three varied films viz. Cirkus, Ganapath – Part 1, and Merry Christmas will be seen vying for a share of the audiences’ wallets.

Comments a well-placed industry source, “With the announcement of Cirkus releasing on December 23, the audience will be spoilt for choice. Two films have already locked and announced on the same date, and both are big releases, one being the Tiger Shroff starrer Ganapath – Part 1 and the second being the Katrina Kaif – Vijay Sethupathi starrer Merry Christmas that is a thriller is being helmed by AndhaDhun director Sriram Raghavan. Now with Cirkus also releasing the audience will have a third option which is a comedy.”

Ask the source about how three big-ticket releases hitting screens on the same day will affect business and he adds, “It will be a fight. That much is certain, each of the three films will have to compete for a share of the audiences’ wallets. December is a month that sees expenses rise, with the festive season, New Year round the corner, and of course the festive mood. So with three films releasing on the same day, it will be a close race at the box office. But a lot will depend on reviews and audience feedback.”

While three films releasing simultaneously, what makes this release date that much more crucial is the fact that a week prior the much-awaited Hollywood film Avatar: The Way of Water hits screens, the Salman Khan starrer Kabhi Eid Kabhi Diwali is scheduled for the last weekend of December. Talking about the packed release schedule in December the source adds, “Avatar: The Way of Water has been in the making for a while, and expectations for the film are high. Add to this the response the film’s trailer received recently and you can expect the venture to open big. Besides this, there is also Kabhi Eid Kabhi Diwali, which will mark Salman Khan’s return to the big screens after a while, so expect heavy patronage for that film as well. However, the Salman starrer might see its release being pushed to 2023, providing the three releases viz. Cirkus, Merry Christmas, and Ganapath will have an extra advantage.”

As of now, all three releases are holding steady with their release plans, with neither side relenting. It will be an interesting watch to see the three-way box office clash this December. However, between now and their release date there is ample time to reschedule, especially since promotions have not begun, but it remains to be seen the makers of which of these three releases blinks first.
