PM Narendra Modi names a chowk after Lata Mangeshkar on her birth anniversary in Ayodhya

Late singer Lata Mangeshkar would have turned 93 on September 28. Marking the special occasion, Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to social media to announce that he has named a chowk in Ayodhya on her birth anniversary. He called it a fitting tribute to the legendary singer.

PM Narendra Modi names a chowk after Lata Mangeshkar on her birth anniversary in Ayodhya

“Remembering Lata Didi on her birth anniversary. There is so much that I recall…the innumerable interactions in which she would shower so much affection. I am glad that today, a Chowk in Ayodhya will be named after her. It is a fitting tribute to one of the greatest Indian icons,” PM Modi wrote on Twitter.

“The Lata Mangeshkar Chowk in Ayodhya, where Goddess Saraswati’s veena has been established, will be a symbol of her musical meditation,” he said in a video. He added, “I have a lot of memories with Lata didi, many emotional memories. Whenever we would talk, her sweet voice would mesmerise me. She called me in happiness when Bhoomi Poojan of Ayodhya’s Ram temple got completed.”

He continued, “I remember, after the bhoomi-pujan of Ram Mandir in Ayodhya, Lata didi called me. She was very happy. She could not believe that Ram Mandir was being constructed.”

Talking about the chowk, PM Modi said, “The chowk named after Lata didi will act as an inspiration for those who are associated with the arts in our country. This will remind us that being connected to the roots, and going towards an advanced future, it is our duty to spread the message of Indian culture and arts all over the world.”

UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath reportedly inaugurated the chowk on Wednesday. The singer passed away in February earlier this year. As per reports, Padma Shri awardee Ram Sutar made the giant 40-feet-long and 12-meter-high veena sculpture weighing 14 tonnes in remembrance of the singer. It has been installed at the intersection in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh.

Lata Mangeshkar was considered one of the iconic stars in the music industry of all time. She recorded songs in over a thousand Hindi films and crooned in over thirty-six Indian languages and foreign languages. She was awarded the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 1989. In 2001, she was conferred with the Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian honour.

Lata Mangeshkar is the recipient of three National Film Awards, several Filmfare Awards, and more. In 1974, she became the first Indian to perform at the Royal Albert Hall, London.

According to Variety, during the September 19 – September 25 viewing window, the 10-episode limited series – starring Evan Peters – knocked Cobra Kai Season 5 off down to the third spot. Notably, Monster scored around triple the title in second place. Season 2 of Fate: The Winx Saga stayed at the No. 2 spot for the second week.

The second installment of the fantasy series, which premiered on the streamer on September 16, earned nearly 61 million hours views in its first full week of availability. The show’s first season also appeared at No. 5, more than a year after its January 2021 release. It received 20.3 million hours watched during the measured window.

Ryan Murphy’s story of notorious serial killers had already been viewed for nearly 200 million hours last week. Meanwhile, The Crown continues its reign on the Top 10 list and sits in fourth place with 25.7 million hours viewed while Season 2 ranks at No. 7 on the list, earning 17.5 million hours viewed.

Released on September 21, The Jeffrey Dahmer Story “exposes these unconscionable crimes, centered around the underserved victims and their communities impacted by the systemic racism and institutional failures of the police that allowed one of America’s most notorious serial killers to continue his murderous spree in plain sight for over a decade.”

Paramount removes Star Trek 4 from its upcoming slate of films a month after director Matt Shakman’s exit

Star Trek’s fourth entry has been removed from Paramount Picture’s slate of upcoming releases.  The project, produced by J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot, had been dated to hit theaters on December 22, 2023. According to Variety, the news comes roughly one month after director Matt Shakman exited the Star Trek film, presumably to rejoin the MCU. Shakman first became attached to the sequel in the summer of 2021.

Paramount removes Star Trek 4 from its upcoming slate of films a month after director Matt Shakman’s exit

The Star Trek announcement even landed the same day Shakman was nominated for an Emmy for the show. As per the report, it was also announced by Abrams this February, during the Paramount Global investors day presentation, that a new Trek movie “will be shooting by the end of the year and will feature our original cast.”

Star Trek franchise features Chris Pine as Kirk, Zachary Quinto as Spock, Zoe Saldana as Uhura, Karl Urban as Bones, John Cho as Sulu and Simon Pegg as Scotty, who were all expected to return for the fourth untitled follow-up. The last Trek feature came in 2016 with Star Trek Beyond directed by Justin Lin, which became the lowest grosses of any of the Trek reboots from Bad Robot.

While Chris Pine and other stars have all expressed their interest in doing a fourth film, they also expressed skepticism it could move ahead that quickly. But as of now, it’s unclear whether Paramount will move the date and, if they do, who will fill the director’s chair.

Meanwhile, Star Trek has five ongoing Trek series: Star Trek: Discovery, Star Trek: Picard, Star Trek: Lower Decks, Star Trek: Prodigy, and Star Trek: Strange New Worlds.
