Hot Take: The Depp/Heard Trial – A movie based on former couple Johnny Depp and Amber Heard’s highly publicized and controversial defamation trial is set to debut exclusively on Fox’s Tubi on Friday, September 30.

According to Variety, Hot Take follows the tumultuous relationship — in and out of court — of Depp and Heard, dramatizing the two-month defamation trial that concluded June 1, with the jury finding that Heard had defamed Depp by alluding to domestic violence allegations against him in a December 2018 op-ed piece.

The jury also held Depp liable for a defamatory statement made about Heard by his lawyer. Depp will be played by Mark Hapka (Parallels, Days of Our Lives) alongside Megan Davis (Alone in the Dark) as Heard. Depp’s ace attorney Camille Vasquez will be played by Melissa Marty (Station 19) with Mary Carrig (Law & Order: True Crime) playing Heard’s former lawyer Elaine Bredehoft.

The film comes from Fox Entertainment’s MarVista Entertainment and is written by Guy Nicolucci and directed by Sara Lohman. Per the report, the movie was fast-tracked into production by Tubi and MarVista “to capture a timely take on a story that became part of the cultural zeitgeist, painting a unique picture of what millions watched play out in the headlines over the summer,” Adam Lewinson, Tubi’s chief content officer, said in a statement.

“‘Hot Take: The Depp/Heard Trial’ is one of many timely, culturally relevant original movies to come from our expanding partnership and slate of movies being produced in collaboration with Tubi,” said Hannah Pillemer, EVP creative of affairs for MarVista. “Connecting viewers to stories with this kind of social currency and topicality make watching them a must for any fan of pop culture or celebrity drama.”

Disney has shuffled release dates for one of its biggest announcements from D23 convention – the live-action film Haunted Mansion which has been pushed back five months with the announcement of release dates for new projects.

As The Hollywood Reporter notes, Rosario Dawson, LaKeith Stanfield, Danny DeVito, Jamie Lee Curtis, Jared Leto and Tiffany Haddish star in the film — from director Justin Simien, who showed off a first look at D23 on September 9 — that tells the story of a mother and son who encounter a mansion that is more than it seems.

Haunted Mansion, which was originally set for release on March 10, 2023, will be directed by Justin Simien from a screenplay written by Katie Dippold. It is being produced by Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich of Rideback. Rideback’s Nick Reynolds will serve as executive producer. Per the report, Disney also officially removed the Star Wars film Rogue Squadron from the calendar which was originally meant to open December 2023.

The studio also set dates for a number of tentpoles it teased at D23 namely – alien-themed Elio which arrives March 1, 2024; Disney’s Snow White hits March 22, 2024; Pixar’s Inside Out 2 will open June 14, 2024; and Mufasa: The Lion King arrives July 5, 2024, Taika Waititi’s Next Goal Wins for April 21, 2023 and Disney’s animated Wish which was previously set for just 2023, will open November 22, 2023.

As THR notes, Rogue Squadron was unveiled at an investor day in late 2020, with director Patty Jenkins stating she hoped to make “the greatest fighter pilot movie ever made.” It is unclear if Jenkins and Disney will return to the film at a future date.

Bridgerton and The Gray Man star Regé-Jean Page and Top Gun: Maverick actor Glen Powell are teaming up for a new TV series, an untitled reimagining of Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid for Amazon.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Gray Man and Top Gun: Maverick alums will both executive produce the untitled series from AGBO, with The Eternals duo Kaz and Ryan Firpo set to write. Exact plot details are being kept under wraps but it is revealed that Page will play Butch Cassidy, while Powell will take on the role of the Sundance Kid.

The original 1969 film followed two leaders of a band of outlaws in Wyoming, circa the early 1900s. After botching a train robbery, they find themselves on the run and must escape unscathed. The movie won four Oscars, including for Best Original Screenplay and Best Cinematography. Both the actors will also serve as executive producers on the show in addition to starring.

Mike Larocca, Angela Russo-Otstot, and Scott Nemes of AGBO are also attached to executive produce the feature project. The series is envisioned as part of a larger franchise with multiple shows and spinoffs. An episode count and director have yet to be decided upon as the project is still in its early stages.

On the work front, Regé-Jean Page is best-known for his breakout role in the first season of Bridgerton and followed up with The Gray Man from the Russo Brothers. He will next star in the upcoming, highly anticipated film Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves.

Meanwhile, Glenn Powell is best known for his recent breakout role in Top Gun: Maverick. His other credits include Netflix’s hit rom-com Set It Up, Hidden Figures and Everybody Wants Some!!

ZEE5 announced the premiere of their direct-to-digital movie Atithi Bhooto Bhava today. Presented by Dr. Jayantilal Gada [PEN Studios], Atithi Bhooto Bhava is a romantic comedy starring Jackie Shroff, Pratik Gandhi, Sharmin Segal in the lead roles and Divinaa Thackur, Simran Sharmaand, Prabhjyot Singh in prominent roles as well. Directed by Hardik Gajjar, the movie will stream on ZEE5 from 23rd September 2022 in Hindi.

A ZEE5 exclusive film, Atithi Bhooto Bhava is a story of Srikant Shirodkar [Pratik Gandhi], a witty stand-up comedian who takes his relationships for granted including with his beautiful live-in girlfriend Netra Bannerjee [played by Sharmin Segal]. Things take a turn when a Ghost named Makhan Singh [played by Jackie Shroff] enters their lives and asks Srikant to fulfil a promise made by him. Confused Srikant then realises that he has been reborn and that he was Makhan Singh’s – Darji (Grandfather) in 1975. The movie explores the journey of two love stories in different time zones and how Makhan Singh helps and guides Srikant in his relationship with Netra.

Jackie Shroff said, “I have portrayed enormous characters, but Makhan Singh in Atithi Bhooto Bhava was something different. Portraying a Ghost was very exciting and thought it would be captivating for the audience to see me in this role as well. There are many instances and scenes that the audience will connect with. It’s a beautiful romantic movie! I am hoping that the audience enjoys it as much as we (Partik, Sharmin and I) enjoyed making it.”

Pratik Gandhi says, “Atithi Bhooto Bhava is an entertaining film and full of emotions. I was inclined towards the script because it had a different narrative. In times when there are thrillers and murder mysteries, Atithi Bhooto Bhava is a light-hearted romantic musical film which will connect with the audiences and make them believe in love again.”

Sharmin Segal commented, “I strongly believe that love should be expressed when felt and that’s one of the main messages of this film. My character Netra craves for attention, affection, from Srikant which he is unable to give her until he realises the value of love. The movie showcases a beautiful journey of two love stories and Jackie sir’s character helps our characters understand how rare it is to find love and how important it is to appreciate it. Love is a very complex emotion. There are multiple interpretations of love that exist. I wanted to understand whether, “True Love really exists” and that’s why I couldn’t refuse this script.”

Hardik Gajjar, Director of the movie commented, “Atithi Bhooto Bhava is really close to my heart, but at the same time it’s also an important film. In the times when there are countless platforms to express your views, we are finding it difficult to express our feelings. That feeling of true love is so pure, but sometimes why do we undermine the importance of expressing it? This film focusses on the same thing and also highlights that the power of love can transcend beyond life and death.”

Atithi Bhooto Bhava premieres on ZEE5 on 23rd September 2022.
