Earlier this week, Bollywood actress Jacqueline Fernandez requested the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Delhi Police to postpone the questioning on Monday citing pre-scheduled shoots as a reason. The actress has been summoned for her alleged connection to conman Sukesh Chandrashekar who has been accused in the Rs. 200 crore money laundering case. The actress on Wednesday was seen arriving at the Delhi Police office for questioning.

The actress reported entered the EOW office on Wednesday at 11:20 am from the back gate and will be continued to question till 5 pm. It is likely that she will be summoned again on Thursday. It is also reported that she has been cooperating with the process.

Previously, the actress was accused of having a connection with the infamous conman Sukesh Chandrashekhar and it was alleged that about Rs. 7.27 crores of funds were seized from the actress in the name of proceeds of crime. The actress has been previously questioned thrice in the same case under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).

According to a report in News 18 earlier, a fixed deposit worth Rs. 7.12 crore has been attached to Jacqueline Fernandez’ name. Infact, the ED estimated that Sukesh gifted gifts “worth Rs 5.71 crore to Jacqueline using the extortion money. It is also said that Sukesh gave funds close to $173,000 and around 27,000 Australian dollars to a few close members of Jacqueline’s family.”

In Sukesh Chandrasekhar’s statement recorded under Section 50 of the PMLA (Prevention of Money Laundering Act), Sukesh had said that he gave as many as 15 pairs of earrings, five Birkin bags, and other luxury goods from Chanel, Gucci to the actor. The con man also claimed that he gifted Jacqueline Fernandez Cartier bangles and rings and a bracelet by Tiffany & Co. in addition to Rolex watches. He also gave Jacqueline Fernandez jewellery worth Rs 7 crore and gifted her a horse called ‘Espuelah’.

In addition, Sukesh Chandrashekhar also extended a loan of USD 150,000 to Jacqueline Fernandez’s sister, who lives in the US. He also gave her a BMW X5 car and gifted Jacqueline Fernandez’s parents a Maserati and her mother in Bahrain a Porsche. He also extended a loan of USD 50,000 to her brother in Australia.

In its charge sheet, the Delhi Police has accused Sukesh Chandrasekhar and 13 others of duping the wife of the former promoter of Ranbaxy to the tune of Rs 200 crore. Officials believe Chandrasekhar extorted Rs. 200 crore from the complainant by claiming that he would facilitate her husband’s release from prison.

It is known that Netflix is bringing Squid Game: The Challenge, a reality competition series based on the hit 2021 South Korean survival thriller. As Netflix notes, Squid Game: The Challenge will be “the biggest reality competition series ever,” hosting the largest cast and offering the largest lump sum cash prize in reality television history as 456 players compete for $4.56 million (Rs. 35.56 crores). But, people have raised concerns over the problematic show.

At the Emmys 2022, Hwang Dong Hyuk won Best Director for a Drama Series for the pilot of Squid Game, “Red Light, Green Light.” Lead star Lee Jung Jae became the first Asian actor ever to win  Best Actor in a Drama Series at the awards ceremony. Backstage in the press room, when asked about the upcoming reality show Squid Game: The Challenge and the concerns over it, he said, “Yes, I am aware of the reality show being created. I actually met with the creator yesterday, and they had many questions for me. What I hope is that they will be carrying on my vision and intention as much as possible for the show.”

“I think that even though our show does carry quite a heavy message, and I know there are some concerns of taking that message and creating it into a reality show with a cash prize, however, I feel like whenever you take things too seriously, that’s really not the best way to go for the entertainment industry,” he added, as per Variety. “Doesn’t really set a great precedent. So I would say that reproductions of such efforts are going to bring new meaning to the industry, and I hope that this is going to be a great new direction for the industry overall.”

The upcoming 10e-episode reality series is reportedly a co-production between Studio Lambert and The Garden, and will be filmed in the U.K. Stephen Lambert, Tim Harcourt and Toni Ireland executive produce for Studio Lambert while John Hay, Nicola Hill and Nicola Brown executive produce for The Garden.

After a long and successful career in the police force, detective Taek Rok is preparing to retire when his partner gets into trouble. On the run, Taek Rok is contacted by the real murderer, a man who identifies himself only as “Friend” and is blackmailed into reinvestigating his old cases in the hope of clearing his name. With the clock counting down, will Taek Rok be able to solve his last case before it’s too late?

Starring Lee Sung Min as the soon-to-be-retired detective Kim Taekrok, Jin Goo as Kook Jin Han, Gyeong Su Jin as Lee Seon Ga, and Lee Hak Joo as Son Gyeong Chan, Shadow Detective is directed by Han Dong Hwa and produced by Studio Dragon.
