The Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Board Limited (HPSEBL) on Wednesday responded to allegations made by Mandi BJP MP and Bollywood actor Kangana Ranaut, stating that she has a record of delayed electricity bill payments.

The clarification came a day after Kangana Ranaut, speaking at a public gathering in Mandi district, alleged that she received an inflated electricity bill of nearly ₹1 lakh for her Manali home, despite not currently residing there. She also took a swipe at the state government, referring to it as a “pack of wolves.”

In response to her remarks, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, who is currently in Gujarat, said, “I don’t take her statements seriously. She frequently makes such comments.”

HPSEBL Managing Director Sandeep Kumar stated that the Rs.90,384 bill issued on March 22, 2025, included outstanding dues of Rs.32,287 and accounted for electricity usage during January and February 2025. The domestic connection is registered in Kangana Ranaut’s name and pertains to her property in Simsa village, Manali.

Kumar further noted that the connected load at Ranaut’s property is 94.82 kW — roughly 1,500% higher than the average household. He added that previous bills amounting to Rs.82,061 for the period from October to December 2024 were paid late on January 16, 2025, while the January–February bill was settled on March 28, 2025.

The MD also stated that Ranaut receives government subsidies on her electricity consumption, including Rs.700 for February 2025.

Naresh Chauhan, principal media adviser to the Chief Minister, remarked, “Her comments are an attempt to divert attention from her failures as an MP. No extra charges were levied; her claims are baseless and headline-driven.”

Attempts to reach Ranaut’s team for a response went unanswered.

Speaking at a public meeting in the Jarol assembly constituency, Mandi MP Kangana Ranaut criticised the Congress by recalling major scams from before 2014, including the 2G, coal, and fodder scandals. She lauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, saying, “Chand pe daag hota hai, unpe ek bhi daag nahin hai” — comparing his spotless record to the blemishes seen even on the moon.

With the countdown to its theatrical release underway, Kesari Chapter 2 has officially been granted an ‘A’ certificate by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). Starring Akshay Kumar, Ananya Panday, and R Madhavan, the film is now cleared for release with a runtime of 135 minutes and 6 seconds — just over two hours and fifteen minutes.

As per the CBFC website, the film was certified on April 9, 2025. The ‘A’ rating suggests that Kesari Chapter 2 may feature intense and possibly graphic depictions, as it explores one of India’s most turbulent historical events — the aftermath of the Jallianwala Bagh massacre.

The courtroom drama has already stirred anticipation with its bold narrative and impactful performances. Akshay Kumar stars as C. Sankaran Nair, the courageous lawyer who challenged the British Empire after the Jallianwala Bagh massacre. Ananya Panday plays Dilreet Gill, while R. Madhavan takes on the role of Neville Mckinley. Simon Paisley Day portrays General Reginald Dyer — the officer behind the horrific events at Jallianwala Bagh.

Earlier today, Akshay Kumar unveiled a powerful poster on Instagram, where he’s seen in elaborate Kathakali attire, frozen mid-performance. Alongside the image, he wrote, “This is not a costume. It’s a symbol — of tradition, of resistance, of truth, of my nation. C. Sankaran Nair didn’t fight with a weapon. He fought the British Empire with the law — and with fire in his soul.”

He added, “This 18th APRIL, we bring you the court trial they never taught in textbooks.”

Directed by Karan Singh Tyagi, Kesari Chapter 2: The Untold Story of Jallianwala Bagh is inspired by the book The Case That Shook The Empire by Raghu Palat and Pushpa Palat. The film is produced by a formidable team that includes Hiroo Yash Johar, Aruna Bhatia, Karan Johar, Adar Poonawalla, Apoorva Mehta, Amritpal Singh Bindra, and Anand Tiwari.

Filmmaker Tahira Kashyap recently opened up about a personal challenge, revealing that her breast cancer had returned after seven years. Following a new round of treatment, she shared an encouraging update with her fans, saying she is now back home and on the road to recovery.

Tahira Kashyap shared an update on Instagram, posting a cheerful photo of herself holding a sunflower. In the heartfelt post, she expressed deep gratitude for the outpouring of love and prayers she received following her announcement about the relapse of her breast cancer.

Tahira wrote, “Basking in all the love and prayers! They are magical. Thank you, thank you, thank you! Back home and recovering.”

She added, “I know some of you who are praying and so many whom I don’t know and yet I receive all your goodness with grace, similarly some of you know me and others might not but I send all my gratitude to all of you. And when such a connection is made which is beyond actual relationship it’s called Humanity which is the highest form of spirituality.”

Actor Mandira Bedi showed her support by commenting, “I’m saying a prayer for you every day.” RajKummar Rao wrote, “The strongest girl ever. On Monday, Tahira Kashyap revealed that her breast cancer has relapsed for the second time. She took to Instagram to share the news with a post that read, “Seven year itch or the power of regular screening — it’s a perspective. I’d like to go with the latter and suggest the same for everyone who needs to get regular mammograms. Round 2 for me… I still got this.”

In the caption, Tahira wrote, “When life gives you lemons, make lemonade. When life becomes too generous and throws them again at you, you squeeze them calmly into your favourite kala khatta drink and sip it with all the good intentions. Bollywood actors Shah Rukh Khan and Sanjay Dutt have recently ventured into the alcohol business, and now Ajay Devgn has joined the league with an impressive debut in the global alcobev space. He has introduced a premium 21-year-old single malt named GlenJourneys, priced at Rs. 50,000. Known for his diverse roles over the years, Ajay is now also an investor in Cartel Bros—the company behind the globally acclaimed Glenwalk, launched last year in collaboration with Sanjay Dutt.

In an open chat with CNBC-TV18, the Bollywood star discussed his personal journey with alcohol, the rising international acclaim for Indian single malts, and his latest move into the whisky industry.

Ajay Devgn has come on board Cartel Bros as both an investor and a partner for GlenJourneys. Best known for iconic roles like Vijay Salgaonkar in Drishyam, Devgn candidly shared that he once had a reputation for being a heavy drinker. “I’ve enjoyed drinking good alcohol ever since I was legally qualified to drink,” he admitted.

Devgn experienced a turning point when he chose to give up alcohol completely. “I went to a wellness spa, and since then, I didn’t feel like drinking at all,” he recalled. After staying sober for a year, he gradually began exploring more refined spirits and developed an appreciation for single malts. “Now, I only have two small drinks a day. The bold flavour of the malt is something I love,” he said.

The first release of the brand includes only 1,200 bottles, which will be rolled out in two phases and sold exclusively through travel retail in India and internationally. Devgn highlighted that the emphasis isn’t on pricing but on delivering a niche, high-quality product for those who appreciate craftsmanship. With a price tag of Rs. 50,000–60,000 in India and around Rs. 30,000 globally, GlenJourneys is aimed at connoisseurs as a premium, limited-edition whisky.

Indian single malts have been steadily gaining global acclaim, winning honours at renowned international awards. This growing demand provided the perfect opportunity for Devgn to enter the whisky space. Ajay recalled, “I’m more of a fashion guy, but when I met my partner in the form of Moksh Sani and tasted the whisky, I was hooked. That’s when we decided to create something together.” That moment sparked the idea for a collaboration, ultimately leading to the launch of GlenJourneys, a premium single malt whisky brand.

Looking ahead, Devgn has ambitious plans for GlenJourneys. “We want to take GlenJourneys worldwide,” he stated. The next release, expected in August, will showcase whisky aged in cask finishes, with older expressions planned for the future. The broader goal is to position GlenJourneys as a global brand, with travel retail serving as a key distribution channel.

Ajay added, “Brands are built in travel retail, and once you see our product on shelves at airports or duty-free shops, that’s when people really take notice.”

The re-release of Bhaiyaji Superhit, which was scheduled to happen on April 10, has been abruptly postponed. The announcement came via an official note from the film’s producer Mahendra Dhariwal, who cited “unavoidable circumstances” as the reason for the delay.

“We regret to inform you that the release of our film Bhaiyaji Superhit, starring Sunny Deol, which was scheduled for 10th April, has been postponed due to unavoidable circumstances,” read the statement. “We understand the excitement and anticipation around the film, and we sincerely thank all the fans for their continued support and patience.” It concluded, “A new release date will be announced very soon.”

Originally released in 2018, Bhaiyaji Superhit is an action comedy directed by Neerraj Pathak. The film features Sunny Deol in a double role alongside an ensemble cast that includes Preity G Zinta, Arshad Warsi, Ameesha Patel, and Shreyas Talpade. Notably, the film also marked the comeback of Preity Zinta to the big screen after a five-year hiatus.

Set in the heart of Varanasi, the story revolves around Lal Bhaisahab Dubey aka Bhaiyaji (played by Deol), a quirky and hot-headed local don who harbours the unusual dream of seeing himself immortalised on the silver screen. To make his cinematic fantasy come true, he ropes in a flamboyant Bollywood director Goldie Kapoor (Arshad Warsi) and eccentric writer Tarun Porno Ghosh (Shreyas Talpade). What unfolds is a chaotic mix of action, humour, and meta-filmmaking as Bhaiyaji’s personal and professional lives collide in true Bollywood style.

The film’s unexpected return to theatres had generated buzz among fans of mass entertainers, especially those nostalgic for early 2000s-style comedy-action dramas. It also drew attention as a rare re-release, with Sunny Deol having enjoyed a successful 2023 with Gadar 2.

The historical social drama Phule faced some issues recently when sections of the Brahmin community raised doubts over their representation in the film. Director Ananth Narayan Mahadevan sorted this issue by having a conversation with the aggrieved parties. Now, the film has come across another hurdle after a financier has alleged non-payment of dues.

As per a notice published in Atul Mohan’s Complete Cinema magazine dated 5th and 12th April 2025 by advocate Ashok Purohit, Mukesh Gupta lent money to the producers of the film. Despite repeated requests, the amount has not been repaid. As a result, Gupta has placed a lien (a legal claim) on Phule.

The notice further said that no rights of the film — digital, satellite, theatrical, or ancillary — can be sold or transferred without a No Objection Certificate from Mukesh Gupta. As per this notice, any such transaction done without his written consent is invalid, and legal action may be taken. It even stated that “This notice is being issued to safeguard our client’s legal and financial interests”.

Phule stars Pratik Gandhi as Mahatma Jyotirao Phule and Patralekhaa as Savitribai Phule. It is scheduled to be released in cinemas on April 25. It was all set to release on April 11 but was pushed due to objections from the Brahmin community. Ananth Narayan Mahadevan told Mid-Day recently, “Many letters and notices have come from different Brahmin organizations. There was some misunderstanding after the trailer was launched. We want to clear those doubts so that there is no hassle in viewership.”

He also said, “When I met the representatives [of the Akhil Bhartiya Brahmin Samaj] and told them about how we’ve shown that [certain] Brahmins helped Jyotiba Phule set up 20 schools, they were happy. When Phule opened the Satyashodhak Samaj, these Brahmins were the pillars. I’m a staunch Brahmin. Why will I [malign] my community? We have only shown the facts. It’s not an agenda film.”
