EXCLUSIVE: Salman Khan’s Sikandar faces CBFC scissor – ‘Home Minister’ reference scrapped, political hoarding visuals blurred

Last week, Bollywood Hungama informed readers that the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) had passed both the theatrical trailer and the final cut of Sikandar on Friday, March 21. The 3-minute and 38-second-long trailer was passed with a UA 13+ certificate and zero cuts. The film also received the same rating but it also faced minor cuts from the Examining Committee of the CBFC.

The CBFC asked the makers to mute the word ‘Home’ from ‘Home Minister’ at the beginning of the film and wherever else it was uttered in the film. Secondly, the visuals of a political party hoarding were asked to be blurred. Thankfully, the makers were not asked to make any visual cut. Hence, all the action and violent scenes have been spared modifications or deletions.

Once these changes were made, Sikandar makers were handed over the censor certificate on March 21. The length of the film, as mentioned on the censor certificate, is 150.08 minutes. In other words, its run time is 2 hours 30 minutes and 8 seconds.

Meanwhile, there has been confusion over Sikandar’s actual length. Though the censor certificate mentions the run time, exhibition sources claim that the final length of the film is lesser, that is, 2 hours 15 minutes and 46 seconds.

Sikandar stars superstar Salman Khan along with Rashmika Mandanna, Sathyaraj, Sharman Joshi, Kajal Aggarwal, Anjini Dhawan and others. It is directed by A R Murugadoss of Ghajini (2008) fame and is produced by Sajid Nadiadwala’s Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment. While the film releases worldwide on Sunday, March 30, the advance booking will commence tomorrow, that is, Tuesday, March 25.
Regarding the unconventional Sunday release, a source told us, “The makers are confident that it’s the correct day for release. Sunday will be a big holiday, more so in Maharashtra as Gudi Padwa falls on that day. Meanwhile, Ramzan Eid will be celebrated on Monday, March 31. There’ll be a post-Eid holiday effect on Tuesday, April 1 and Wednesday, April 2 in many centres as well. The collections will again see a jump from Friday, April 4. Hence, until Sunday, April 6, the film’s collections will remain very strong.”

Sushant Singh Rajput Case: Dia Mirza calls for public apology by the media to Rhea Chakraborty after CBI clears her

Actress Dia Mirza has spoken out in support of Rhea Chakraborty, calling on the media to issue a public apology after the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) ruled out foul play in the Sushant Singh Rajput case.

Reacting to the latest developments, Dia Mirza criticized the media’s role in vilifying Rhea throughout the investigation. In an Instagram post, she stated, “Who in the media will have the grace to put out a written apology to Rhea Chakraborty and her family? You went on a witch hunt. You caused deep anguish and harassment just for TRPs. Apologize. That’s the very least you can do.”

The controversy surrounding Rhea intensified in September 2020, when she and her brother Showik were arrested by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) as part of a drug investigation linked to Rajput’s case. Despite spending nearly a month in jail, Rhea was eventually granted bail, with no substantial evidence proving any criminal involvement.

Her lawyer, Satish Maneshinde, also voiced his concerns regarding the media trial she faced. He described the relentless harassment they faced, further stating that she suffered the inhuman treatment. He further revealed that the family endured significant pressure and threats during the investigation but remained determined to clear their names. Maneshinde also criticized the spread of misinformation during the pandemic, suggesting that the media’s focus on the case was fuelled by public demand for sensational news.

The final report submitted by the CBI mentioned that there was no evidence of any wrongdoing by Rhea or her brother Showik, or their family. The case, which gained massive public attention, stemmed from the tragic death of Sushant Singh Rajput in June 2020 at his Mumbai residence.

With the case officially closed, public figures like Dia Mirza are urging the media to acknowledge its role in fueling baseless allegations and to extend an apology to Rhea and her family.

Amazon Prime Video DENIES making edits in OTT version of Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen: Report

The ongoing controversy surrounding Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen has taken a new turn as Prime Video has officially denied the filmmaker’s claims of unauthorized edits to the movie on their platform. The streaming giant clarified that they have not made any modifications to the film and that the version currently available on their service is the one provided by the film’s distributor, NH Studioz.

Prime Video’s Official Statement
In response to Kapur’s allegations, Prime Video issued a statement, as reported by Times Now, stating, “Prime Video has not made any edits to the version of the film Bandit Queen currently streaming on the service. The version available on Prime Video is the version provided by the film’s distributor, NH Studioz.”

This clarification comes after Kapur took to X (formerly Twitter) to express his dissatisfaction, claiming that his film had been significantly altered on the streaming platform without his knowledge or consent.
Shekhar Kapur’s Strong Reaction
The controversy began when Kapur, while discussing Netflix’s series Adolescence, raised concerns about how OTT platforms treat Indian filmmakers. He posted, “I wonder @IAmSudhirMishra if OTT platforms would let me make #BanditQueen the way I made it years ago. The Bandit Queen on #AmazonPrime is unrecognisable from my film. Someone has cut it beyond recognition. And yet it carries my name as Director. And no one asked me! Are we lesser beings than Western Directors? Would they have the guts to cut a Chris Nolan film without his permission?”

— Shekhar Kapur (@shekharkapur) March 18, 2025

Kapur continued his criticism with a detailed post about the painstaking process of filmmaking and editing. He questioned the motivations behind altering the film and lamented the potential impact on the performances and music, particularly mentioning Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan’s contributions to the soundtrack. “Did you even think about the love we give for our art? Did you think about how Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan’s beautiful work was affected as you so carelessly butchered the film? Or the performances in the film from actors? For you were not there when we shot the film in a punishing 50-degree heat.”

He concluded with a pointed remark about the treatment of Indian filmmakers, stating, “For we are Indian filmmakers … so who cares?”

The anguish a director and editor go through when editing their films. The days/nights spent arguing, fighting over each edit, each cut. I remember those months with Renu Saluja and myself on #BanditQueen. And then some random person carelessly cuts the film for OTT release?

What’s Next?
With Prime Video refuting Kapur’s claims, the spotlight now shifts to NH Studioz, the film’s distributor, for further clarification. It remains to be seen how Kapur will respond to the platform’s statement and whether any further action will be taken.

REVEALED: Iulia Vantur is the voice behind ‘Lag Ja Gale’ in Salman Khan-starrer Sikandar

The trailer of Sikandar, starring Salman Khan and Rashmika Mandanna, was finally unveiled yesterday, March 23, at a grand event in Mumbai. As expected, the trailer is packed with lots of entertainment and mass moments. However, it ends on a very unexpected note. It features shots of Rashmika singing the classic song ‘Lag Ja Gale’ and it’s interspersed with Salman fighting baddies.

Many assumed that Rashmika Mandanna herself has sung the song. Bollywood Hungama has learned that its actually Iulia Vantur who has lent her voice for the said portion. This is not the first time that she has sung for a Salman Khan-starrer. Earlier, she crooned two songs in Radhe – Your Most Wanted Bhai (2021) – ‘Seeti Maar’ and ‘Zoom Zoom’. She also sang ‘Selfish’ and ‘Party Chale On’ in Race 3 (2018).

This is also not the first time that Iulia Vantur has sung the recreated version of a classic. In 2023, she released ‘Raat Baki’, composed by Sajid Khan of Sajid-Wajid fame. The original song was sung by Asha Bhosle in Namak Halaal (1982). ‘Lag Ja Gale’, on the other hand, was originally used in Woh Kaun Thi (1964) and was sung by Lata Mangeshkar.

At the trailer launch of Sikandar on Sunday, March 23, Salman Khan revealed that Rashmika’s ‘Lag Ja Gale’ portion is the best part of the trailer, according to him. He even hummed a few lines and encouraged members of the media to sing along with him. As expected, it made for a great moment spread like wild fire on the internet. Also present at the launch were actors Rashmika Mandanna, Kajal Aggarwal, Sharman Joshi, Sathyaraj and Anjini Dhawan, producer Sajid Nadiadwala and director A R Murugadoss.

Sikandar releases in cinemas across the world on the occasion of Eid. The festival will be celebrated on Monday, March 31 while the film arrives in cinemas on Sunday, March 30.

John Abraham named first honorary director of PETA India at 25th anniversary celebration

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) India just celebrated its 25th anniversary with a Beatles-themed high tea at Taj Palace, and The Diplomat star and PETA India’s first star supporter, John Abraham, was the guest of honour. In recognition of his years of tireless animal advocacy, PETA India named Abraham the first honorary director of PETA India in front of attendees, including Pooja Bhatt and Anita Dongre. PETA India Director Poorva Joshipura presented the honour, and the founder of PETA entities worldwide, Ingrid Newkirk, gave a thought-provoking talk.

John’s many compassionate actions on behalf of animals include successfully urging e-retailer Quikr to stop allowing live animals to be traded on its platform, requesting the Centre to ban animal acts in circuses, speaking up for pigs illegally killed in backyards, appealing to the Nepali government to end the Chitwan Festival’s abusive elephant “games”; appearing in an eye-popping campaign calling attention to the suffering of elephants used for tourist rides and donating his Kaun Banega Crorepati winnings to PETA India. John has also adopted a community dog named Bailey. John was also named PETA India’s Person of the Year in 2020.

“I’m thankful for this tremendous honour and now look forward to supporting PETA India’s vital work over the next 25 years,” says John Abraham. “Since I first supported PETA India in 2000, I remain steadfastly committed to animal protection.”

“John Abraham never turns down a chance to advocate for animals: From working to end cruel circus animal acts to rescuing a desi dog, John’s massive star power is rivalled only by the size of his heart,” says PETA India Vice President Sachin Bangera. “PETA India is delighted to name John our first honorary director, and we encourage everyone to follow his example by speaking out whenever they see animals in need.”

John is the first celebrity to become an honorary director of PETA India. He joins a distinguished and exclusive roster of honorary directors of PETA entities abroad, including Pamela Anderson, James Cromwell, Anjelica Huston, and more.

PETA India – whose motto reads, “Animals are not ours to experiment on, eat, wear, use for entertainment, or abuse in any other way” – opposes speciesism, a human-supremacist worldview. For more information, please visit PETAIndia.com or follow PETA India on X, Facebook, or Instagram.
