After Daaku Maharaaj received positive responses from the audience in the South belt, a Hindi dubbed version of the film was also released for the audiences in the Hindi belt. In 2021, Milap Zaveri delivered Satyameva Jayate 2, starring John Abraham in a triple role. Despite its mass appeal, it failed to strike a chord with the audience. After the film’s debacle, Milap took his time and is now back with as many as 3 directorial ventures. What’s interesting is that though all these four films are of different genres, all of them are massy.

Last year, Milap Zaveri was announced as the director of Masti 4. Interestingly, he was the writer of the first two parts, Masti (2004) and Grand Masti (2013). The fourth part brings back Vivek Oberoi, Riteish Deshmukh and Aftab Shivdasani and its mahurat was held on December 15.

A month before this joyous event, Milap Zaveri launched his other directorial venture, Tera Yaar Hoon Main. Backed by Indra Kumar and Ajay Murdia, it launched Indra Kumar’s son Aman Indra Kumar and also stars Akanksha Sharma and Paresh Rawal. The launch event was memorable as superstars Aamir Khan and Ajay Devgn were the chief guests.

Meanwhile, on the occasion of Valentine’s Day, moviegoers got a pleasant surprise as a new film, Deewaniyat, was announced. It’ll be directed by Milap Zaveri and stars Harshvardhan Rane in the lead. The announcement worked big time as it was announced after Harshvardhan’s 2016 classic love story Sanam Teri Kasam was re-released and created history. The teaser poster mentions that Deewaniyat will be released in cinemas in 2025.

Interestingly, while Masti 4 is a sex comedy, Tera Yaar Hoon Main is a wholesome entertainer, and Deewaniyat is expected to be an intense love story. In short, Milap Zaveri will dabble in three diverse genres in the mass space. He’s also the only director at present to have three projects in hand.

While speaking on Komal Nahta’s YouTube show Game Changers, Karan Johar stated, “I always thought Alia would be a star, but I could not imagine that she would become this kind of actress. I didn’t think of that. I knew she was a star and she was a good actress. She is solid, she can face the camera but I always say that her emotional launch is Student of the Year, but her professional launch is Highway.”

Karan Johar considers Highway to be the film that truly established Alia Bhatt as an actress, allowing her to prove her talent beyond stardom. He believes that having both exceptional acting skills and widespread popularity is what makes someone stand out. In his view, Alia is lucky to possess both, distinguishing her from many others in the industry.

Reflecting on launching Sidharth Malhotra, Varun Dhawan, and Alia Bhatt, Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani director Karan Johar revealed, “When I launched these three, I told my team that you should treat them like a mega stars only. So they were like, ‘What does that mean?’ I said, ‘Treat them like they’re already superstars because if you give them that confidence, they will face the camera like a star. If you treat them like a newcomers, they’ll give you a newcomer performance.’ They were given the best treatment. That didn’t mean I was spoiling them.”

Karan Johar aimed to boost the confidence of the debutant actors, ensuring they felt like stars rather than newcomers. He treated them as friends and prioritized their comfort. Instead of traditional rehearsals, he held a 12-day workshop at his empty flat, where he focused on understanding them personally. Through conversations about their lives, thoughts, and insecurities, they developed a strong bond by the end of the workshop.

Days after the intimate ceremony, Priya responded to speculations, stating that “absolutely nobody who is family was missing” from their special day. The couple tied the knot on February 14 in a private ceremony attended by close friends and family at Smita Patil’s house. However, the absence of Prateik’s father, veteran actor Raj Babbar, and his family sparked widespread speculation.

“Everyone Who Mattered Was There”
In an interview with Hindustan Times, Priya Banerjee shut down the rumors, emphasizing that their wedding was a family affair. “There was absolutely no family member who was missing from the wedding or our celebrations. I don’t know why there are rumors that ‘family members’ were absent. Our families were there, including my parents, his aunts who raised him, his nana-nani, and everyone who mattered.”
Aarya Babbar’s Reaction to Not Being Invited
Following the wedding, Prateik’s step brother, Aarya Babbar, claimed that the Babbar family was not invited. In an interview with ETimes, he stated, “I presume someone has overpowered his brain too much. He does not want to connect with anyone from this side of the family. He has decided not to call anyone.” He further suggested that an external influence might be affecting Prateik’s decisions, adding, “Life is no less than a film; someone in the house is influencing him.”

Rakul Preet Singh has a keen understanding of box office and during an exclusive interview with Bollywood Hungama as part of the promotions of her upcoming film Mere Husband Ki Biwi, she talked about the post-pandemic trends.

When commented that the box office scenario is even more unpredictable now, she replied, “Yes, now you never know. Re-releases are working and new releases are not. Sometimes, films you have a lot of expectations from don’t work and vice versa. As an actor, I feel your job is done after promoting the film and shooting for it in the best possible way. Ultimately, neither the makers nor the actors know what will work and what won’t. Also, I believe that there are too many factors. It’s not that a film flopped because it hasn’t been liked. If that was the case, it wouldn’t have worked on its re-release or on OTT. For example, Doctor G (2022) earned tremendous love and credibility once it dropped online.”

Rakul Preet Singh continued, “But as I said, there are too many factors, one of which is pricing. Post-pandemic, people got used to OTT and watching a film in cinemas dropped in the priority list. Many prefer to go for dinner as that works out to be cheaper and they prefer waiting for the film’s OTT premiere a month or two later. In short, it’s no longer about the film’s merits. The film will find its audience eventually. Of course, we all love theatrical numbers as it benefits all of us but things are just not in our control.”

She proved her point with an example, “Laapataa Ladies (2024) is such a good film. It won international acclaim. Yet, its box office collections do not reflect the level of credibility it has received. But pre-pandemic, it was possible to make money with a film starring newcomers. So, I guess it’s a transitioning phase and a good film will ultimately find its audience.”

In such a scenario, it’s refreshing to see Mere Husband Ki Biwi being released in cinemas and not opting for an OTT release. Rakul Preet Singh said, “That was the intention. Growing up, we used to wait for films like these that we could watch in theatres with family and friends. I was missing a film like this personally. Zara Hatke Zara Bachke (2023) became quite big as people like to watch light-hearted films. This is that film – it will remind you of Hum Tum type of flicks or Dharma movies – good songs, stunning locations, comic scenes etc. Hence, it’s great that it’s releasing in cinemas. I am of the belief that you can watch a film on OTT but you can’t enjoy cinema. You can’t laugh the same way while watching a film on your phone or laptop. This experience of laughing together and the human connection comes only in theatres.”

Mere Husband Ki Biwi also stars Arjun Kapoor and Bhumi Pednekar and releases in cinemas on February 21.

Prime Video will premiere its upcoming Original comedy series Dupahiya on March 7. Created and Executive Produced by Salona Bains Joshi and Shubh Shivdasani under their banner, Bombay Film Cartel, the series is directed by Sonam Nair and created and written by Avinash Dwivedi and Chirag Garg. The nine-episode series weaves fun and drama with small-town charm, brought to life by a superbly talented cast, including Gajraj Rao, Renuka Shahane, Bhuvan Arora, Sparsh Shrivastava, Shivani Raghuvanshi, and Yashpal Sharma in key roles. Dupahiya will premiere exclusively on Prime Video in India and over 240 countries and territories worldwide on March 7.

A report by Mid-Day revealed that Khan and Dutt will be seen in pivotal sequences of the American thriller. While the project’s title remains under wraps due to strict NDAs, industry insiders confirm that the film aims to appeal to a global audience. The report quoted a source saying, “Salman and Sanjay are widely recognized, especially in the Middle East. Their scenes have been crafted to leave an impact.”
Filming at AlUla Studios
AlUla Studios has become a preferred location for international productions. Hollywood films like Gerard Butler’s Kandahar (2023) have already been shot here. The ongoing Hollywood thriller will utilize this cinematic backdrop to enhance its visuals. Salman Khan’s team reportedly landed in Riyadh on Sunday morning to kick off the three-day shoot.
Salman Khan and Sanjay Dutt Films, Projects So Far…
Khan and Dutt have shared the screen in several films, including Saajan (1991), Chal Mere Bhai (2000), and Yeh Hai Jalwa (2002). Their collaboration has always been a crowd-puller. Last year, the duo reunited for Old Money, a track by Indo-Canadian rapper Dhillon, blending Bollywood nostalgia with contemporary Punjabi beats.

Speaking of the professional front, Salman will be next seen in Sikandar, directed by AR Murugadoss. The film will also star Rashmika Mandanna as the female lead, Pratiek Babbar as the antagonist, and Satyaraj and Sharman Joshi playing other pivotal characters.
