A screening of Chhaava, starring Vicky Kaushal, turned chaotic in Bharuch when a man vandalized the silver screen of a multiplex. The incident occurred on Sunday night at RK Cinemas during the final show, scheduled at 11:45 PM. The accused, identified as Jayesh Vasava, was allegedly intoxicated when he stormed towards the screen, damaged it with a fire extinguisher, and tore it apart. Police confirmed his arrest on Monday.

Motive Behind the Vandalism
According to officials from Bharuch A Division Police Station, Vasava became overwhelmed during a scene depicting the execution of Sambhajiraje Maharaj by Aurangzeb. In an emotional outburst, he attempted to “attack Aurangzeb” on screen. The multiplex staff intervened and restrained him before further damage could occur.
Multiplex Management Reacts
RK Cinema’s general manager, RV Sood, shared details about the financial loss and disruption caused by the incident. “I received a call from the staff of Bluechip Cinema informing me about the vandalism. We immediately removed the individual from the auditorium to prevent further harm. The damage is estimated to be around Rs 1.5 lakh. Monday’s scheduled screenings were affected, but repairs were prioritized, and we aimed to resume operations by night.”

To manage the situation, affected audience members were given the choice of a refund or continuing the film in an adjacent auditorium. While some opted for refunds, others continued watching the movie on a different screen.
Legal Action Taken Against the Accused
A police complaint filed by the cinema management also states that Vasava verbally abused a female staff member and threatened personnel on duty. As a result, he has been booked under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for damaging property and using obscene language. Additionally, a separate case has been registered against him under the Prohibition Act, given his intoxicated state at the time of the incident.

The highly anticipated war drama Border 2 is currently being filmed at the Babina cantonment in Jhansi, featuring Sunny Deol, Varun Dhawan, and Ahan Shetty in key roles. But who else is part of the film, and what is their role? It has now been confirmed that actor-singer Diljit Dosanjh will be portraying the late Indian Air Force officer Nirmal Jit Singh Sekhon, the only IAF officer to receive the Param Vir Chakra posthumously. When will he begin filming, and how will his role be executed?

According to reports, Dosanjh is set to join the Border 2 team in April. He recently revealed on a podcast that he will step into the shoes of Sekhon, who was stationed at the Srinagar air base during the 1971 India-Pakistan war and defended it against six Pakistan Air Force F-86 jets on December 14, 1971.
Preparation and Shooting Schedule
A report by Mid-Day quoted a source saying, “Diljit is currently shooting for the Punjabi film Sardaarji 3 in Scotland. He will begin his prep for Border 2 by March-end. Anurag Singh has charted out a 20-day, start-to-finish schedule for him.”

The source also revealed the filming locations. “The talkie portions will be shot at the Bombay Flying Club in Juhu, while wide-angle shots will be filmed in Kashmir. To ensure authenticity, replicas of the Folland Gnat fighter aircrafts will be used, and the Srinagar air base will be recreated.”
Sunny Deol’s Return and Film’s Vision
While details about other roles remain undisclosed, it has been confirmed that Sunny Deol will reprise his iconic role as Major Kuldip Singh Chandpuri from the 1997 hit Border. The film aims to depict the bravery and sacrifices of the Indian Armed Forces during the 1971 war, with Anurag Singh at the helm.

Chhaava, which was released amid much fanfare, has immense love coming its way as Laxman Utekar and Maddock Films are receiving appreciation from audience for bringing out this powerful story of the Maratha warrior Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj to the forefront. Actor Shardul Pandit too seems to be one of them who was left impressed with this entertainer and took to social media to voice out his opinion and questioning the reason why the Indian Education system lacks mention of Maratha warriors and tales of their bravery.

In a video shared on his Instagram page, Shardul Pandit showered praises on Laxman Utekar, Vicky Kaushal, and others for their power packed performances, but at the same time, insisted on the need to educate children about the greatness of these powerful kings. “I saw Chhava yesterday and couldn’t help but ask my friend “Ye sab humne kyu nahi padha? “ Why do I remember everyone but don’t have a clue about the contribution of the great Maratha warriors ? Why I haven’t been gloating in pride over a hero like Sambhaji or Shivaji ?,” the actor wrote in his caption as he continued, “Why I don’t remember the amazing Maratha rule , the men of steel, principles and value. Shouldn’t we take pride in such great and exemplary Maratha warriors and hero’s ??”

“Why was Bollywood shying away from bringing them to light ? Why were they omitted from my school books or not given the due weightage. And now when @maddockfilms @laxman.utekar and @vickykaushal09 have made a very accurate film I see certain top YouTubers making videos about linking it to politics and questioning why is this film made now,” he added and concluded by saying, “Please take your kids and go to watch CHHAVA as we all have done a gross injustice to this glorious Maratha Sher #chatrapatisambhajimaharaj by not celebrating him enough in our history.” “@laxman.utekar and @vickykaushal09 you should be so proud of yourselves”, he signed off.

Coming to the film, Chhaava is based on a novel by the same name and stars Rashmika Mandanna as Yesubai, Akshaye Khanna as Aurangazeb along with Diana Penty, Ashutosh Rana, Divya Dutta, Vineet Kumar Singh, and others playing key roles. The film released in cinemas on February 14.

Raj Nidimoru and Krishna D.K. are filmmakers who haven’t had a dearth of work since OTT platforms blew up in India. The two have given back-to-back shows and some of the most successful and talked about web series since then. The Family Man (2019) starring Manoj Bajpayee was an instant hit on Prime Video and soon it got green-lit for a second season, which was also received well. Then they made Farzi (2023) for Prime Video, which marked B-town star Shahid Kapoor’s OTT debut. They also made Guns & Gulaabs in the same year for Netflix, which had top actors like Dulquer Salmaan and Rajkummar Rao. Both shows got mixed reactions from the audience.

In 2024, came their biggest show, Citadel: Honey Bunny – a spy thriller backed by Russo Brothers – no less! This marked the OTT debut of Bollywood star Varun Dhawan who was cast opposite actor Samantha Ruth Prabhu. This was an ambitious project, but it got a poor response, way below what Prime Video and Russo Brothers would have imagined. Industry sources tell us that the Indian instalment of Citadel may not be renewed for another season as the cost of production did not justify the output. Citadel: Honey Bunny was promoted widely by Prime Video along with the American Citadel starring Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Richard Madden and Citadel: Diana, the Italian version, which got positive reviews.

Before the release of Citadel: Honey Bunny, Bollywood Hungama sat down with Raj & DK in London for an interview and asked them how they manage juggling all the work that they have taken. Raj Nidimoru said, “DK and I had to wait a lot in the early part of our career for stars to give us dates. We have a lot of stories, and we can’t wait to get them all out. Now that we have the reigns in our hands for the past few years and we became producers, it’s time to push all these out.” The show got flak for casting Varun Dhawan in an action role, to which Raj had told Bollywood Hungama, “I like to push actors, I like to see them in a new light.”

Reports are already out that financial fraud has been found on the production of their next big ticket show Rakt Bramhand starring Aditya Roy Kapur, Wamiqa Gabi, Samantha Ruth Prabhu and Ali Fazal. The financial fraud goes up to as high as Rs 2 crore. A scam connected with the executive producer of the show. Mishandling of funds was detected which exposed accounting irregularities. A source said that Netflix has taken this matter seriously and launched an investigation. Netflix and D2R films hold the highest standards of compliance in their production. Therefore, when an irregularity was observed, the investigation was initiated across the board (internally and externally). The investigation process is still ongoing. Rakt Bramhand was going to be a part of Netflix’s slate announcement but suddenly it didn’t see any mention along with the other series raising more questions.

Well, that’s not it. Here is another big blow to the director duo. The two have completed a series titled Gulkanda Tales – a period sex comedy for Prime Video, which stars Pankaj Tripathi, Abhishek Banerjee and Kunal Kemmu. Raj and DK are the producers of this and Tumbaad director Rahi Anil Barve is the director. This is a fictional story of a kingdom in ancient India where strange events occur. A source associated with the project told BH. “Why will anyone get upset with any of these jokes in the show? This is fiction. This has a funny take on feminism and how misogyny is dealt with and some comedy which shows mishaps in Kamasutra.” Another fact is that this show has gone through quite a bit of re-shoots and re-edits considering the feedback from Prime Video and because of that the budget has gone up. Bollywood Hungama heard about the management of the OTT platform flipped when they saw the rushes that have been shot, as none of this will be acceptable in today’s atmosphere. Prime Video did not comment on any of this, but we hear this show may not see the light of the day, anytime soon even though it’s completely shot. A whopping amount of Rs 120 crore has been spent on it and it’s been over two years since it was announced.

Trade experts said that the filmmakers have taken way more than they can handle and it’s showing in the quality which is evident from their recent releases.

One sigh of relief for Raj and DK is, that their tried and tested show The Family Man S3 starring Manoj Bajpayee for Prime Video seems to be on track. That’s the one they are now banking on.

The popularity of the IMAX format is growing at a rapid pace and hence, the number of IMAX theatres is also gradually increasing in the country. Last year, South Mumbai residents got a pleasant surprise as an IMAX screen opened in the heritage Eros cinema building. In 2024-end, the oldest IMAX theatre of Mumbai in Wadala restarted operations under Miraj. This year, residents staying on the opposite side of the city, in Borivali, are all set to get a similar treat.

Bollywood Hungama has learned that the IMAX screen in question will commence operations by next month. A source told Bollywood Hungama, “It is located in the Inox Sky City Mall. As the name suggests, it is a part of Sky City Mall in Borivali East which will also open its doors to patrons soon.”

The source shared more details, “The IMAX screen has a capacity of 228 seats and is hence slightly bigger than the IMAX at Cinepolis Nexus Seawoods, which is a 227-seater. There are a total of 10 screens in this multiplex. Apart from IMAX and normal screens, it also houses Insignia and MX4D auditoriums. The collective seating capacity across screens is 1372.”

When asked when it’ll be inaugurated, the source replied, “The theatre is ready and a few permissions remain. Once that is in place, it’ll commence operations. The team plans to begin before the end of the financial year, that is, March 31, 2025.”

With Inox Sky City Mall, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region will have 9 IMAX theatres, the other 8 being Miraj Wadala, PVR Icon Lower Parel, Inox Maison BKC, Inox R City Ghatkopar, Eros Inox Churchgate, Inox Megaplex Malad, Cinepolis Nexus Seawoods and Cinepolis Viviana Thane. Hence, Mumbai would now beat Delhi-NCR in having the highest IMAX screens in the country.

The residents of Borivali have been eagerly waiting for the mall and cinema to be opened. The source said, “The area doesn’t have a super-sized mall, with the nearest such shopping plaza, Growel’s 101, being nearly 3 km away. Moreover, it is located at Devipada Metro Station. Commuters can exit the station and directly enter the mall. As a result, it’ll conveniently serve residents from other parts of Mumbai. The IMAX screen, meanwhile, will be one of its top attractions.”

In other news, the metropolitan region got one more multiplex on February 7 with Cinepolis Aurum in Ghansoli, Navi Mumbai. It consists of four screens. On the other hand, Inox Neelyog, located right outside Ghatkopar Station in the East, has shut shop and there are murmurs in the exhibition circles that it might be taken over by a different multiplex chain.

Nikhil Nanda, the son-in-law of Bollywood icon Amitabh Bachchan, is facing grave accusations of fraud and abetment to suicide. The case, filed in the Badaun district of Uttar Pradesh, has sparked significant public interest. Nikhil Nanda, who is also the Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of Escorts Kubota, is accused of pressuring a businessman, Jitendra Singh, leading him to take his own life. According to a report by ETV Bharat, the complaint was filed by Gyanendra, the brother of the deceased.

The Tragic Chain of Events
Jitendra Singh, who ran a tractor dealership, Jai Kisan Traders, in Dataganj, Budaun, had been facing mounting challenges after his business partner, Lalla Babu, was imprisoned due to a family dispute. This left Jitendra to manage the dealership alone. According to the complaint, Nikhil Nanda and several employees from his company began pressuring Jitendra to meet sales targets. Despite his best efforts, Jitendra was allegedly threatened with the revocation of his dealership license, which ultimately led to his tragic death.
The Legal Action and Official Response
A formal case has now been registered against Nikhil Nanda and others, including employees from Escorts Kubota, based on a court order. The accused parties face serious charges of fraud, intimidation, and abetment to suicide. Nikhil Nanda, however, has yet to release an official statement regarding the allegations. The Bachchan and Kapoor families have also remained silent on the matter, avoiding public comment.

For context, Nikhil Nanda is the son of Raj Kapoor’s daughter, Ritu Nanda, and in 1997, he married Shweta Bachchan, daughter of Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan. The couple has two children, Navya Naveli Nanda and Agastya Nanda
