The nation can breathe a sigh of relief. The surgeries on Saif Ali Khan’s stab wounds, inflicted by an assailant on Wednesday night, have been completely successful.

“Saif is fully conscious and even taking calls from close friends. He should be out of the hospital in 4-5 days. The question is where, do they go? Right now, the entire family is in a state of shock,” said the actor’s close friend.

While Kareena and the children are staying with her sister, Saif will join his family and move into another residence as their current residence is now the scene of crime.

“In any case, I don’t think the family will ever return to the house where it happened even when they are allowed to. What has happened is too horrific to heal with time. Do you know Saif’s two sons saw their father being stabbed right in front of their eyes?” the friend shudders.

Yet another political thriller that has succumbed to the controversies is Emergency. The film traces the journey of Indira Gandhi – former and the only female Prime Minister of India and how the situation in the 1970s led to Emergency. The Sikh community has taken offence to certain content in the film, following which the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) approached the Chief Minister of Punjab, Bhagwant Mann on Thursday with a request to impose a ban on its release.

Emergency has not released in Punjab on Friday

Although the government or the officials have not imposed any ban on the release of the Kangana Ranaut starrer, it has been reported that the theatre owners have not been screening the film, which released in other states on January 17 with shows also being scheduled in the morning in multiplexes and theatres. However, the theatre owners have not issued any official statement regarding the same as of now.

SGPC President pens a letter to Punjab CM

A letter was sent to the Punjab CM, a day before the release of the film on Friday. In the letter, the president of SGPC Harjinder Singh Dhami insisted that the film aims at distorting facts and defame the Sikh community. Some of the excerpts from the letter read, “The resolution demanded the Punjab government ban the screening of the movie in the state. However, sadly, the Punjab government led by you (Bhagwant Mann) did not take any step in this direction. If the movie is released on January 17, it would enrage the Sikh world, which is natural”.

It also added, “By hiding facts related to attacks on the holiest shrine of the Sikhs, Sri Harmandar Sahib, the top temporal seat, Akal Takht Sahib, and other gurdwaras and the Sikh genocide (of 1984), this movie works to spread venom under an anti-Sikh agenda. So, we again demand a ban on screening this movie in Punjab. If released, we will be forced to strongly protest it”.

SGPC kicks off protests outside theatres

Despite the decision of theatre owners to not screen the film, heavy security has been deployed outside theatres. Moreover, some of the theatres also saw SGPC members holding protests against the release of Emergency.

About Emergency release

Meanwhile, the political thriller, based on true events, has experienced multiple delays in its release. After being rescheduled for September 2024, the film finally received a green signal from the censor board for a release on January 17.

Coming to the film, Deva is directed by acclaimed Malayalam filmmaker Rosshan Andrrews and it also stars Pavail Gulati, Kubbra Sait, among others in key roles. Pavail, who is expected to portray a major character in the entertainer, had shared a glimpse of the kind of action, audiences can expect from the film. He had said, “Working on Deva has been an exhilarating journey filled with challenges and thrills. As someone who has always been drawn to the action genre and possesses a love for sports, I felt compelled to immerse myself fully in the physical demands of the role. On January 17, a man has been detained in connection with the attack on Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan, following a thorough review of CCTV footage by the police. On Friday morning, visuals captured the suspect being escorted to the Bandra police station. However, authorities have not yet confirmed if he is the individual who broke into the actor’s residence and attacked him the previous night. Furthermore, reports also suggest that no arrests have been made so far for stabbing and trespassing.

Going by the recent reports, the police believed that the suspect changed clothes to evade identification when he last seen near Bandra railway station shortly after the incident. Earlier it was reported, after the accused was spotted on CCTV camera, the police had formed 20 teams to analyse the existing technical data as well as gather their network of informers, to track down the perpetrator. Search operations have also been conducted in Vasai and Nalasopara.

Police suspects that the alleged robber was known to one of Saif’s staff members

Investigators have determined that the intruder entered ‘Satguru Sharan,’ the 12-story building in Bandra where Saif resides in a four-floor duplex, with the intent to commit burglary. Authorities suspect the intruder had connections with one of the house helps employed by the Khans, enabling him to bypass CCTV cameras in the lobby. Familiarity with the building layout reportedly allowed the assailant to scale an adjacent compound wall and use the fire shaft to reach the upper floors.

More suspicions regarding how the attacker broke into Saif’s house

The break-in, which occurred on the 11th floor, lasted approximately 30 minutes. During this time, Saif, and his younger son Jeh’s nanny tried to fend off the attacker but were injured in the process. In a recent CCTV footage shows the intruder descending to the sixth floor via the staircase before escaping. Investigators believe he used the fire shaft to exit the premises, evading capture by avoiding the building’s main lobby and entrances.

About Saif Ali Khan’s health

While the nanny sustained minor injuries while attempting to protect the family, Saif himself suffered six wounds during the scuffle. The actor underwent surgery at the Lilavati Hospital in Bandra, suburban Mumbai on January 16, after which, the doctors there confirmed that his condition has been stable.

While the doctors have assured that the actor’s condition is stable and that he is recouping well, the police have continued the investigation. According to news reports, an intruder was spotted on CCTV camera who is alleged to be the assailant. Furthermore, the police has also revealed that there was no break-in or forced entry which have prompted them to believe that the assailant was already in the building much before the time of the attack.

For the unversed, Saif Ali Khan was attacked at the wee hours between 2 AM to 2:30 AM in his 12th-floor flat in the Satguru Sharan building in Bandra, Mumbai.
