YRF has tapped a new set of filmmakers for the third chapter of Mardaani. Aayush Gupta, the acclaimed scribe behind the hit series The Railway Men, has been chosen to pen the screenplay. Abhiraj Minawala, known for his work as associate director on YRF blockbusters like Band Baaja Baaraat, Sultan, and Tiger 3, will take on the directorial reins. Minawala is also currently working on the highly anticipated War 2.

With the franchise’s first entry since 2019’s Mardaani 2, Mardaani 3 marks a significant return for the series. Rani Mukerji Returns as Shivani Shivaji Roy
As per a report by Variety, Rani Mukerji, whose portrayal of Shivani Shivaji Roy has won over audiences in both Mardaani and Mardaani 2, expressed her excitement about reprising the role. “I’m thrilled to announce that we are starting shooting of Mardaani 3 in April 2025,” Mukerji said in a statement. “I’m proud to essay the character of this feisty cop again in Mardaani 3 as a tribute to all the unsung, brave, self-sacrificing cops who work tirelessly every single day to keep us safe.”

The actress also spoke about the franchise’s commitment to living up to audience expectations. “I describe Mardaani 3 as dark, deadly and brutal,” she added. “It’s important for us to meet the expectations of the audience, and we are determined to make this film worthy of the legacy of Mardaani.”

According to a report by Hindustan Times, the accident occurred during a stunt sequence. An ophthalmologist was immediately called to the set to examine the actor. The report stated, “An object came flying in Akshay’s eye while he was doing a stunt. An ophthalmologist was called on the set immediately, who bandaged the eye and asked him to take some rest, while the shoot resumed with the other actors. However, even with the injury, Akshay is determined to join the shoot back soon because the film is in the final stages of the shoot, and he doesn’t want it to get delayed.”

Housefull 5: A Landmark in Indian Cinema

Directed by Tarun Mansukhani, Housefull 5 is set to release in theatres on June 6, 2025. The film, produced by Sajid Nadiadwala, marks a significant milestone as the first Indian cinema franchise to have five installments. Taapsee Pannu starrer Haseen Dillruba was a heady mixture of romance and crime that went onto impress the audiences when it was released on Netflix in 2021. The film also starred Vikrant Massey and Harshvardhan Rane. This, obviously, led the makers to come up with a sequel titled Phir Aayi Hasseen Dillruba, which also became a rage on the OTT platform earlier this year. It topped the charts, just like its predecessor. Th film starred Sunny Kaushal in place of Rane, whose character dies in the first film.

After two successful films in the franchise, the makers Colour Yellow Productions are all set to bring the third film in the franchise. But there seems to be one major change this time around. Bollywood Hungama has learnt that the makers are considering releasing the third part in cinema halls.

A well-place industry source said, “The first two films in the Hasseen Dillruba franchise became so successful on OTT that various distributors have started asking the makers to release the third film in theatres. They also said that there is a lot of demand for the theatrical release of the third part of the Taapsee Pannu starrer. The makers are also now considering bringing the third Hasseen Dillruba film in the theatres.”

If the makers of Hasseen Dillruba franchise do opt for a theatrical release for the next film in the franchise, it will be a rare example of a franchise moving from OTT to theatres.

The much-awaited film Pushpa 2 – The Rule was released exactly a week ago, Thursday, December 5, and it has fulfilled all the expectations. It had a record opening and continued to do blockbuster business despite inflated ticket rates. Last week, Bollywood Hungama was the first one to inform that the 3D version of the Allu Arjun starrer will be available in cinemas from the second week of the film, that is, December 13 onwards. Bollywood Hungama has now learned that those who want to catch the film in 3D will have to wait a little longer.

A multiplex source told us, “There will be no 3D version available in cinemas from the second week as well, as planned. The theatres have opened the bookings for the second weekend in the normal 2D version and IMAX 2D and 4DX versions.”

The source continued, “We haven’t been given any reason for it. However, there are murmurs that probably in the fourth or the fifth week, the makers plan to release the 3D version. It might give another incentive to the fans of the film to watch the film wearing 3D glasses. This move would hopefully lead to a jump in collections.”

Last week, Bollywood Hungama reported that Pushpa 2 – The Rule’s 3D release was cancelled in its release week as the 3D print was not ready. The decision to do so was taken on December 3, that is, 2 days before release. By then, many theatres across the country had started selling tickets for the 3D version. These theatres then played the film in 2D and refunded the 3D glass charges to those patrons who had bought tickets for the 3D show.

Besides Allu Arjun, Pushpa 2 – The Rule also stars Rashmika Mandanna and Fahadh Faasil. It is directed by Sukumar and is the sequel to the sleeper super hit Pushpa: The Rise – Part 01 (2021).
