Shriya Pilgaonkar raises alarm over Delhi’s air quality crisis: “We need collective action to tackle climate change”

Shriya Pilgaonkar, who has just returned from New Zealand where the Air Quality Index (AQI) was a perfect 1, expressed her shock upon learning about Delhi’s deteriorating air quality. The actor emphasized that this is not the time to blame the government, but rather to take responsibility for the situation.

In an interview with Hindustan Times, Shriya Pilgaonkar discussed her role as a goodwill ambassador for ALT EFF, as well as her concerns about climate change and the severe air quality crisis currently affecting Delhi.
During the conversation, Shriya expressed her deep concern about the climate change that people are currently experiencing. She highlighted the worsening air quality in Delhi as a “red alert” signal, emphasizing the urgent need to address the issue.
“The crazy part is that I was in New Zealand recently, where the AQI was 1… The air was so clean, and now to think that the air we’re breathing here is so hazardous,” Shriya shared. “Air is the most basic thing we need as citizens,” she emphasized.
The actor further added, “It’s easy for people to put the blame on the government, but there are so many actions that we also need to take. We need to act collectively. That is when things will change.”
The Taaza Khabar actor expressed that the current situation deeply unsettles her. “It is very scary to me that we are breathing toxic air…. Especially post Diwali, things happen every year Now, I am concerned about how things will worsen in the time to come… We as a country need to come together and understand. Alors with government policy, we need to act. Because this is the most basic right of life… To breathe in air. We shouldn’t wait for things to get worse before we take action.”
Regarding her role in driving change, the daughter of Sachin Pilgaonkar and Supriya Pilgaonkar emphasized that everyone has a significant part to play in bringing about change.
The daughter of Sachin Pilgaonkar and Supriya Pilgaonkar believes that everyone has an important role to play in driving change and creating a positive impact.
“Everything, even the smallest thing, matters. At the personal level, we need to figure out what we can do better. Can I use a wooden straw? How much plastic do I use? Instead of taking three cars, can I take one? The role we play as citizens, taking up the individual responsibility to do our best to live sustainably, adds up in the larger scheme of things,” says Shrlya, adding, “It is better for our environment”
Shriya admits she doesn’t have a clear solution for the air quality crisis in Delhi, but encourages people to engage with environmental issues through film. “I don’t understand what the solution can be with respect to what’s happening in Delhi. But I think since we have film festivals focused on the environment, I would encourage people to expose their minds to what’s happening in the world. We need to open our eyes and we need to watch films that will make us uncomfortable. And the point is to raise awareness about what’s happening in the world.”
Doing her part for the environment, Shriya is serving as a goodwill ambassador for the ALT EFF (All Living Things Environmental Film Festival). The ongoing festival, which will run across 40 cities in India until December 8, features an exciting lineup of films, workshops, and panel discussions aimed at fostering global dialogue on urgent environmental issues. This year, Alia Bhatt has also returned as a goodwill ambassador.
“I’ve always believed in the power of film festivals,” Shriya shares. “Before I started acting, I used to watch a lot of films at the Mumbai Film Festival. The reason I believe in the impact of certain festivals is that they truly broaden your mind with diverse stories and storytelling. The atmosphere at film festivals is incredibly nourishing. As a creative person, it’s important to expose yourself to different kinds of storytelling and cinema,” she explains, revealing why she chose to get involved with the environmental film festival.

SCOOP: Kartik Aaryan sparks buzz with Dinesh Vijan; discusses Cocktail 2 and Luka Chuppi 2!

Earlier in the week, Kartik Aaryan was spotted at the Maddock Office, sparking speculations if the duo are teaming up again after Lukka Chuppi and Love Aaj Kal. At the same time, Karan Johar too was present, leading the media to speculate about a massive collaboration between three giant forces – Dinesh Vijan, Kartik Aaryan, and Karan Johar.

But our exclusive sources confirm that Kartik had his reasons for meeting Dinesh Vijan. “Kartik Aaryan had requested a meeting with Dinesh Vijan and on meeting, has asked him about the films on his slate. Dinoo opened up about all that he is making for the big screen, and Kartik in return inquired about the bigger projects in making, as he wishes to scale up post Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3,” a trade source informed Bollywood Hungama.

The source adds, “Kartik in particular inquired about the possibilities of Cocktail 2 with him in the lead, as he is a big fan of the first film, especially the part of Deepika Padukone. The conversation ended on an open-ended note with the hope of teaming up on a project soon. Dinesh Vijan is also excited to partner with Kartik Aaryan, after the success he has achieved through his own efforts with the Bhool Bhulaiyaa franchise.”

The source also informed us about the fact that Dinesh Vijan and Kartik Aaryan discussed the possibilities of a Luka Chuppi sequel too. “Luka Chuppi is a big hit and they have also given a thought on Luka Chuppi 2. We will get a clear idea in the next month, but both Dinesh Vijan and Kartik Aaryan are very keen to partner and take forward a franchise, as Bhool Bhulaiyaa has proved how strong a combo – franchise + Kartik is in the modern world,” the source told us further.

Badshah defends Diljit Dosanjh over Alcohol songs controversy; says, “An artists represents society”

Diljit Dosanjh, who typically avoids controversies, found himself caught in one when the Telangana state government issued him a notice, warning him not to perform songs promoting alcohol and violence during his concert in Hyderabad. In response, the singer altered the lyrics of his songs while performing. After his Hyderabad show, while performing in Ahmedabad, Diljit addressed the legal notice. During his set, he clarified that he does not promote alcohol, and that only a few of his songs touch on the topic, which he can easily modify. Expressing his frustration over being singled out for this issue, he declared that if every state in India becomes alcohol-free, he would stop making songs about alcohol altogether.

The Chamkila star received backing from his fans when he openly expressed his feelings. Recently, his industry peer and close friend, Badshah, also came to his defense. During an appearance at the Aaj Tak event, Badshah criticized the apparent double standards, pointing out that while musicians are targeted, alcohol is readily available across the country.
Reflecting on Diljit’s comments, Badshah agreed with the artist’s point of view. He said, “You are telling him not to sing or make songs about alcohol but then you’re selling liquor everywhere. Why shouldn’t they be made? An artist represents society and that’s what makes them relevant and the reason why people love them. They speak about things that the whole world wants to say.”
Badshah also acknowledged that the government might be dealing with certain challenges or issues that the public may not be aware of. However, he fully supported Diljit’s stance and said, “If you don’t want him to sing about something, then that thing shouldn’t exist in society in the first place.”
Badshah also spoke about the close personal relationship he shares with Diljit, describing him as an elder brother who has always supported and guided him through difficult times. He mentioned that Diljit has been a great source of inspiration to him, and he deeply values their bond.

Imtiaz Ali clarifies controversial remarks on women’s safety after criticism from Vinta Nanda at IFFI

After veteran television producer Vinta Nanda criticized acclaimed filmmaker Imtiaz Ali for his recent remarks on women’s safety at the 55th IFFI International Film Festival in Goa, the Highway director addressed the controversy. In response to Vinta’s allegations, Imtiaz clarified that he had been misunderstood. He emphasized that he has never denied or disputed the many cases of harassment, and sought to clarify his stance on the issue.

In his Instagram stories, Imtiaz Ali shared a clarification, he said, “Uh oh there seems to be a misunderstanding that I must clarify. I haven’t denied or disputed the tons of harassment cases that Vinta ji and many other friends have spoken about; in fact these incidents are deeply disturbing and must be dealt with severely and consistently.”
He added, “I was pointing out that it is doubly frustrating that the entire film industry, all those hundreds of men on every set who are otherwise remarkably well-mannered, get a bad name for the acts of a few. Of course, terrible things have happened and continue to happen and they are shameful – as an industry and nation, we should have a zero-tolerance policy towards them. We have to uphold our honour together and regardless of gender.”
Imtiaz Ali recalled an instance from the sets of Jab We Met, where Kareena Kapoor felt completely safe. He shared, “Kareena was ready for the shot and on the top berth in a railway compartment. She had to mumble in her sleep in the scene, and we needed extra lights on the berth. I asked her to come down until the crew members finished putting the light on. She said that I would keep lying there and they could just put the light on.”
Imtiaz added, “Three men went up and put it while standing on the lower berth where she was lying down. I asked her, ‘Are you sure and comfortable?’ She didn’t understand what my problem was. She said, ‘Abhi kon utrega aur phir chadhega!’ And that’s because she felt so safe with those three men hovering over her to put the light on. Nobody looked at her wrong in any way.”
Nanda shared a note on her Instagram that read, “Imtiaz Ali should stop pontificating about what women face in the entertainment industry. Naturally, Kareena Kapoor is safe because she is privileged. And, he surely must know that the casting couch exists! Why has IFFI Goa selected him to speak on behalf of women? Is it to whitewash the truth? If men like him had the courtesy to abstain from speaking on a subject they have no experience about, one will believe that change is indeed taking place.”
In the caption, Nanda wrote, “It’s shocking to see reports of @imtiazaliofficial making all sorts of statements about women’s issues on an important industry platform like @iffigoa With zero experience, he should have abstained from speaking instead.”

Ajaz Khan garners just 131 votes in Maharashtra polls; despite 5.6M Instagram followers

Former Bigg Boss contestant and actor Ajaz Khan ventured into politics by contesting the Maharashtra assembly elections from the Versova constituency under the Aazad Samaj Party (Kanshi Ram) banner. According to the Election Commission’s latest tally, he garnered only 131 votes.

Despite having over 5.6 million Instagram followers, Ajaz Khan’s social media popularity did not convert into votes.

In the Versova constituency, Haroon Khan leads with 58,047 votes, while the NOTA (None of the Above) option has received 1,022 votes—nearly six times Ajaz Khan’s total of 131 votes.

The voter turnout in Versova stood at 42.2%.

Traditionally a Congress stronghold, the Versova constituency had 16 candidates contesting in this election. Maharashtra witnessed its highest voter turnout in over three decades, reflecting the intense competition between the Mahayuti alliance (BJP-Shiv Sena-NCP) and the Maha Vikas Aghadi (NCP(SP)-Shiv Sena (UBT)-Congress).

Early trends on Saturday indicated a strong lead for the BJP-led Mahayuti alliance, putting it on track for a decisive majority in the Maharashtra Assembly elections.

In the 288-member Maharashtra Assembly, the Mahayuti alliance led in 231 seats, leaving the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) with just 51. The BJP, contesting 149 seats, had either won or was leading in 130, while the Shiv Sena and NCP were ahead in 56 and 39 constituencies, respectively.

Shah Rukh Khan-Salman Khan’s Karan Arjun amongst the top 3 openers of all time in the HISTORY of re-releases; opens bigger than Rockstar, Kal Ho Naa Ho, Veer-Zaara, Pushpa

One of the most loved films of Indian cinema, Karan Arjun (1995), had a grand re-release yesterday, November 22. Starring Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan, it managed to open at Rs. 26 lakhs, and is thus, now the third biggest opening day grosser for a re-release.

The re-release trend picked up big time this year and the biggest grosser in this regard was Tumbbad at Rs. 1.50 crores. This was followed by Laila Majnu, which opened at Rs. 30 lakhs. Karan Arjun, meanwhile, earned Rs. 26 lakhs and that’s more than the re-release first-day collections of Veer-Zaara (Rs. 20 lakhs), Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil Mein (Rs. 20 lakhs), Kal Ho Naa Ho (Rs. 12 lakhs) and Rockstar (Rs. 7 lakhs).

Interestingly, Karan Arjun also collected more than Ajay Devgn’s Naam, a two-decade-old film, which finally had a release yesterday. It collected Rs. 20 lakhs. Pushpa also arrived yet again in cinemas as its sequel will be out in less than 2 weeks. But it managed to earn Rs. 15 lakhs, that is, Rs. 11 lakhs less than Karan Arjun.

Bollywood re-releases typically fall into two categories: films that underperformed initially but gained a cult following and opened big during re-release like Tumbbad, Laila Majnu and to some extent Rockstar. Then there were blockbuster hits from their original run that might not create the same urgency to revisit but will find its audience slowly and steadily. Karan Arjun belongs to the latter category and in that regard, its opening is praiseworthy.

Karan Arjun is expected to have a healthy weekend and with no competition for the next few weeks, it’ll have an open run until the release of Pushpa 2 on December 5.

Karan Arjun’s re-release also had more than three weeks of promotional campaign, spearheaded by producer-director Rakesh Roshan. It was released in 1114 theatres and 2208 shows in India and 250 theatres overseas. This simultaneous re-release in India and overseas was a first for any Bollywood film. Rakesh Roshan’s innovative re-release strategy aimed to reintroduce the classic to modern audiences, blending new-age and traditional tools. The blockbuster filmmaker worked tirelessly to enhance the audio-visual experience, ensuring it resonated with new and old fans alike.

Salman Khan – Atlee film to be a reincarnation drama: Report

After directing superstar Shah Rukh Khan in Jawan, Atlee is expected to be taking another plunge into the world of Bollywood superstardom by marking his first collaboration with the other superstar Salman Khan. While details of the film are being strictly maintained under wraps, recent reports have confirmed that the filmmaker is keen on making this a mega two-hero project with either Tamil superstars Rajinikanth or Kamal Haasan as the other lead. Latest update on that front is that the film will be a reincarnation drama.

In a Pinkvilla report, a source was revealed saying, “Atlee has been working on a mega-budget reincarnation drama for the last one year, which is set in two distinct era’s – past and present. The filmmaker is looking to have a strong, never-seen-before period set up with breath-taking visuals of a fictional world. It’s going to be Salman Khan presented like never before in the avatar of a warrior in the period era, whereas the present era dynamics have been kept under wraps for now. The focus of the film will be more towards the period portions than the present, as the script demands more of drama and conflict in the fictional fantasy world. All the characters will be interlinked from past and present.”

It was learnt that the film, currently being referred to as A6, was expected to be going on floors in the first half of next year. However, while it seems that Atlee continues to be busy with the script and finalizing the cast, the source has asserted that the filmmaker will lock both soon.  “It’s an ambitious film with Atlee looking to create a new world for the cinema going audiences, with lots of action, drama, thrills and emotion. He is looking to lock the entire star-cast for A6 by the end of this year, and the filmmaker is confident to get one of the two legends – Kamal Haasan or Rajinikanth – to play the parallel lead,” the source has informed further.

Meanwhile, currently, Salman Khan is busy wrapping up Sikandar, directed by A R Murugadoss and produced by Sajid Nadiadwala, which also stars Rashmika Mandanna, Kajal Aggarwal, and Prateik Babbar. On the other hand, Atlee is busy with the release of his production Baby John starring Varun Dhawan in the lead, that is a remake of the filmmaker’s 2016 Tamil movie Theri.
