Anil Kapoor rejects ₹10 crore endorsement deal for pan masala brand, cites responsibility to audience; Report

With a career spanning over four decades, Anil Kapoor has appeared in more than 100 films, showcasing his versatility across various genres and remaining one of Bollywood’s most successful actors. A recent report revealed that the 67-year-old actor declined a lucrative endorsement deal for a pan masala brand worth ₹10 crore, citing a sense of “responsibility” towards his audience.

According to Pinkvilla, Kapoor was offered this profitable deal but chose to reject it. A source close to the actor commented on his decision and stated, “Anil Kapoor was approached by a major pan masala company with a tempting offer. However, he was quick to decline. He believes he has a responsibility towards his fans and the wider audience and feels strongly about not endorsing products that could potentially harm public health, regardless of the monetary compensation.”

Over the years, Anil Kapoor has become more selective about the brands he associates with, prioritizing health and wellness in his endorsements. He consistently places his values above financial gain, carefully choosing products that align with his personal vision and public image. Recently, other celebrities, including Kartik Aaryan and John Abraham, have also declined to endorse tobacco products, reflecting a growing trend among actors to promote healthier choices.

Previously, celebrities such as Ajay Devgn, Akshay Kumar, Shah Rukh Khan, and Amitabh Bachchan have been associated with well-known pan masala ads, facing criticism for their endorsements. After receiving backlash, Akshay Kumar issued an apology and vowed never to promote pan masala again.

On the work front, Anil Kapoor was last seen in Divya Khossla’s Savi. He also appeared in Fighter, starring alongside Hrithik Roshan and Deepika Padukone. Upcoming projects include War 2, featuring Hrithik Roshan and Jr. NTR, as well as Alpha, co-starring Alia Bhatt and Sharvari.

Subhash Ghai to release his memoir ‘Karma’s Child’, co-authored by Suveen Sinha

Veteran filmmaker Subhash Ghai is all set to bring his memoir titled ‘Karma’s Child’, which is co-written by journalist and author Suveen Sinha. The book will be published by HarperCollins and launched on November 15 during the Literature Live Festival at the National Centre of Performing Arts (NCPA) in Mumbai. The event will see a special appearance by the legendary lyricist and filmmaker Gulzar.

As per the publisher, the book “tells the story of a man who believed he was destined to direct his own future, no less dramatically than a Subhash Ghai film, and did so.”

Speaking about the memoir, Subhash Ghai shared, “Countless stars are born in our film industry and just as many fade away. What you hold in your hands is the story of how a young man came from nowhere, faced the challenges before him, and carved his own path. This book is the story of the Hindi film industry as it unfolded before my eyes from the 1960s till today.”

Co-author Suveen Sinha said, “I was mesmerized by the rotating sign of ‘LION’ in Kalicharan. I cheered when Jackie limped to save his love in Hero. I danced to ‘One Two Ka Four’ in Ram Lakhan. To work with Subhash Ghai on this memoir feels like a dream come true. We wanted to write this book as the story of the Hindi film industry told from the perspective of its biggest showman, which is why we chose to narrate it in the third person. That makes it a unique celebrity memoir.”

Udayan Mitra, Executive Publisher at HarperCollins, added, “Subhash Ghai has entertained us for decades with films that are remembered for their strong storylines, captivating music, and grand cinematic vision. His memoir is a delightful read—filled with humor, anecdotes, and drama, it pulls the reader in just like a Subhash Ghai movie. We at HarperCollins are excited to bring this book to readers of all ages.”

Ghai is known for making successful films like Kalicharan, Karz, Vidhaata, Hero, Karma, Ram Lakhan, Saudagar, Khal Nayak, Pardes and Taal.

Vasan Bala deletes twitter account after backlash over Jigra’s Box Office struggles

Director Vasan Bala, whose recent film Jigra underperformed at the box office, appears to have deleted his Twitter (X) account. Until recently, he had been actively sharing posts and responding to comments, but now his replies show up as blank boxes with the message, “This post is from an account that no longer exists.”

Bala had been defending the Alia Bhatt-starrer against trolls, and in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, he mentioned that box office numbers aren’t the sole measure of a film’s success. However, this remark sparked backlash, with many social media users labeling him “arrogant” for dismissing the audience’s feedback.

Some members of the audience have questioned why Vasan Bala became the face of Jigra after its box office failure, while Alia Bhatt and Vedang Raina were actively promoting the film prior to its release.

Jigra faced off against Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video, featuring Rajkummar Rao and Triptii Dimri, at the box office. Although Raaj Shandilyaa’s film also struggled to gain traction, it outperformed Jigra.

Backed by Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions, Jigra garnered ₹ 26.39 crore nett in India till 20th October. The film stars Alia Bhatt as a protective elder sister who helps her brother, played by Vedang Raina, escape from a foreign prison.

Pushpa 2: The Rule digital rights acquired by Netflix for Rs 275 crores

Netflix has acquired the digital rights for the highly anticipated film Pushpa 2: The Rule for an unprecedented sum of Rs 275 crores. This acquisition marks one of the biggest digital rights deals in Indian cinema history, highlighting the streaming giant’s commitment to expanding its South Indian content library.

The deal comes as part of the film’s remarkable pre-release business achievements, which have already set new benchmarks in the industry. National Award-winning actor Allu Arjun’s return as the iconic Pushparaj has generated immense buzz, contributing to the film’s extraordinary pre-release collection of Rs 1085 crores.

Industry experts suggest that Netflix’s substantial investment reflects their confidence in the film’s potential to replicate and possibly exceed the success of its predecessor, Pushpa: The Rise. The streaming platform’s decision was likely influenced by Allu Arjun’s recent National Award win for Best Actor, which has significantly elevated the franchise’s profile on the national and international stage.

The digital rights acquisition is part of the film’s broader non-theatrical rights package, which totals Rs 425 crores. This figure represents a significant portion of the movie’s overall pre-release business, demonstrating the growing importance of digital streaming platforms in the film industry’s revenue model.

Pushpa 2: The Rule, directed by Sukumar and produced by Mythri Movie Makers, is scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release on December 6, 2024. The film, featuring Allu Arjun alongside Rashmika Mandanna and Fahadh Faasil, has already generated substantial interest across various markets, with theatrical rights being sold for Rs 640 crores across different regions.

The satellite and music rights for the eagerly awaited Pushpa 2: The Rule have been sold for a staggering Rs 425 crores, setting new records in the non-theatrical rights segment. This remarkable achievement includes Rs 85 crores for satellite rights and Rs 65 crores for music rights, with T Series securing the music distribution rights.

The astronomical figure for non-theatrical rights demonstrates the immense confidence broadcasters and music labels have in the sequel to the blockbuster Pushpa: The Rise. The deal has contributed significantly to the film’s total pre-release business of Rs 1085 crores, marking it as one of the most profitable film deals in Indian cinema history even before its theatrical release.

The satellite rights deal, valued at Rs 85 crores, represents a substantial increase from typical industry standards, reflecting the tremendous anticipation surrounding Allu Arjun’s return as Pushparaj. The actor’s recent National Award win has further amplified the film’s market value, leading to these record-breaking figures.

The music rights, secured for Rs 65 crores, mark another milestone in the film’s pre-release business. T Series, known for its market leadership in the Indian music industry, will handle the film’s musical portfolio, building on the massive success of the first film’s soundtrack.

The film, slated for release on December 6, 2024, has already demonstrated its pan-Indian appeal with strong pre-release figures across different regions. The theatrical rights alone have accumulated Rs 640 crores, with significant contributions from various markets: Rs 220 crores from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, Rs 200 crores from the North, and Rs 140 crores from overseas markets.

Directed by Sukumar and featuring a stellar cast including Rashmika Mandanna and Fahadh Faasil alongside Allu Arjun, Pushpa 2: The Rule is positioned to become one of the biggest releases of 2024, setting new standards for the Indian film industry’s business model.

Unidentified man in Salman Khan extortion case apologises for “Mistaken” Rs 5 crores demand: Reports

In a recent development regarding the ongoing Salman Khan death threat case, the unidentified individual responsible for sending a Rs 5 crores extortion message to the Mumbai traffic police has issued an apology. The message, which demanded the payment to allegedly settle an enmity between actor Salman Khan and gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, was sent on October 17. The individual has now claimed that the message was sent “by mistake.”

Details of the Threat and the Apology
Reportedly, the threatening message, initially believed to have been sent by a member of the Bishnoi gang, warned that Salman Khan’s fate would be worse than that of former MLA Baba Siddiqui, who was recently murdered. The message shocked authorities and the public alike, prompting swift action by the police.

However, shortly after sending the extortion demand, the same individual sent a follow-up message apologising for the initial threat. According to this person, the message was a mistake, and they expressed regret for the entire incident. Despite the apology, the police are not taking the situation lightly.
Police Investigation and Origin of the Message
The Mumbai police are actively investigating the case and have traced the message’s origin to Jharkhand. A police team has been dispatched to the state to locate the sender and determine their motives. Given the seriousness of the situation, authorities remain vigilant, especially since this is not the first time Salman Khan has been involved in such threats.

A police officer handling the case emphasized the importance of fully understanding the intentions behind the threat, despite the apology. “We are treating this as a serious matter and will leave no stone unturned in identifying and questioning the individual responsible for sending the messages.”
Salman Khan’s History with Threats
This is not the first time Salman Khan has been targeted with such threats. His past disputes with criminal elements, particularly the Bishnoi gang, have made him a frequent target for extortion demands and threats. In recent years, law enforcement has been on high alert whenever his name surfaces in such cases.

Authorities are investigating whether the sender has any ties to the Bishnoi gang or if the message was indeed sent unintentionally, as claimed. Depending on their findings, the police may take further action.

Actress Kritika Kamra has now ventured into the world of helping revive local arts and helping local artisan communities from Madhya Pradesh with a heartfelt mission. Together with her mother, Kritika has started a fashion initiative called Cinnabar that empowers local artisans from her hometown of Chanderi, a region celebrated for its handloom art.

Kritika was visiting Chanderi when she realized the hard work of these artisans and wanted to do something to extend support to them. Fans of the War franchise are eagerly awaiting the release of War 2, and the film’s action scenes are set to surpass expectations. Jr NTR, who plays the antagonist, is about to film one of the movie’s key moments. Following a high-stakes sequence with Hrithik Roshan in April that was set aboard an aircraft, Jr NTR will now be the focus of an epic solo fight scene. This scene is pivotal in establishing his character as a formidable force in the action-spy-thriller film directed by Ayan Mukerji.

A 40-Man Battle at Yash Raj Studios for War 2
The action set-piece will take place at Yash Raj Studios in Andheri, and insiders have revealed the scale of the showdown. “Ayan wanted Jr NTR’s solo scene to be designed in a way that it highlights the character’s raw power,” said a source. With this in mind, the film’s action choreographer has crafted a sequence in which Jr NTR faces off against a gang of 40 men. The shoot commenced today and will continue over the next three days.

This high-energy sequence will showcase Jr NTR’s physical prowess and promises to be one of the most intense scenes in War 2. The action choreography is expected to push the limits of what audiences have seen in Indian cinema, underlining Jr NTR’s antagonistic strength and danger in the narrative.
Hrithik Roshan to Rejoin the Action
While Jr NTR leads the current fight sequence, Hrithik Roshan, the film’s protagonist, will join the unit later this week. Director Ayan Mukerji is expected to shoot another major action sequence featuring both Roshan and Jr NTR, increasing the excitement for their inevitable on-screen clash. This follows the film’s recent Italy schedule, where Hrithik Roshan and Kiara Advani filmed romantic sequences, adding another layer to the film’s storytelling.
Ayan Mukerji’s Vision for War 2
With Ayan Mukerji at the helm, War 2 is shaping up to be one of the most ambitious action films in Indian cinema. Mukerji’s vision for Jr NTR’s character, coupled with intense action choreography, will make this showdown an unforgettable cinematic experience. Fans can expect the upcoming sequences to set new benchmarks in the action genre, especially as War 2 builds on the legacy of its predecessor, War (2019).

Salman Khan to postpone the shoot of Sikandar: Report

Salman Khan, who will mark his return in theatres in a massy avatar in Sikandar, kicked off this project with Sajid Nadiadwala earlier this year amid much excitement. However, the film seems to have faced a hurdle in the aftermath of the assassination of Baba Siddique. With the Khan family worried over the shooting outside their residence, followed by the demise of a close friend and an influential political figure, we hear that Salman has decided to stay put for the next few days at least.

Although the exact time has not been decided as to how long will Salman Khan will not be participating in the shoot, sources close to the actor have reportedly asserted that it is the best solution for the star as of now. “It is no longer enough to provide him stern security. For some time now, Salman would have to lie really now. He won’t be shooting for anything for quite a while, indefinitely I’d say,” a source was quoted saying to Times Now.

The source also mentioned about how Sikandar requires extreme dedication from Khan, which he will not be able to provide considering the emotional turmoil he has been undergoing after the sudden demise of Siddique. “Abhi kuch nahin kaha jaa sakta hai (Nothing can be said as of now). Sikandar requires a whole lot of choreographed action. Director Murugadoss needed Salman’s full attention. But right now that seems impossible. The way ahead is still very unclear. Right now, the most important thing is Salman and his family’s safety. That won’t be compromised under any circumstance,” the source added.

Coming to Sikandar, the film has A R Murugadoss as the director and boasts of an ensemble cast with Rashmika Mandanna as the leading lady and Kajal Aggarwal, Prateik Babbar, among others playing key roles. Produced by Sajid Nadiadwala, the film is scheduled to release during Eid 2025. But, it is yet to be seen if the makers will be retaining this release date, after Khan’s sudden decision to take a break.
