Payal Kapadia’s All We Imagine As Light is now set to release across limited screens in Kerala from the 21st of September 2024. This is the first time the film will be released in Indian theatres. The film made history earlier this year at the 77th Cannes Film Festival, where it became the first Indian film ever to win the prestigious Grand Prix. Spirit Media founded by Rana Daggubati has the exclusive rights to distribute the film in India. The Indian Producers for the film Zico Maitra, Chalk and Cheese Films and Ranabir Das, Another Birth are based in Mumbai and have been on the journey with Kapadia over the last five years in bringing the film to life.

The film will have a limited screen run in the coming week in Kerala, home to one of the film’s Indian languages. Subsequently, it will be released across all major cities in India. Details around the release are being locked, making the Kerala release the first milestone in the film’s theatrical journey in India. The Malayalam title of the film is Prabhayay Ninachathellam.

Reflecting on the India theatrical release, Payal Kapadia said, “At the heart of the film are two women who come from Kerala to work and realise their life’s ambitions in Mumbai. So it is only appropriate that the first state to see the film in theatres is to be Kerala. I am excited for the film to be watched in all parts of India as our release progresses.”

Rana Daggubati, whose Spirit Media acquired the film for distribution in India, added,  “We are proud to be able to bring this incredible film to audiences in India, starting with Kerala where the two leading characters of the story are from. Indian cinema has a rich legacy of storytelling, and this film captures the Indian experience through characters speaking multiple languages coming from different parts of the country with similar shared dreams to a metropolis like Mumbai.”

This is the first Indian film in over 30 years to enter the Main Competition of the Cannes Film Festival and marked Payal as the first Indian female filmmaker ever chosen for this competition. All We Imagine as Light was among 22 films competing for the Palme d’Or Award along with the likes of high-profile filmmakers such as Andrea Arnold, Francis Ford Coppola, Jia Zhang-Ke, Paolo Sorrentino, Sean Baker and Ali Abbasi.

Since its premiere at the Cannes Film Festival, the film has been selected to be screened across several festivals globally including the Telluride Film Festival, Toronto International Film Festival, New York Film Festival and the San Sebastian Film Festival. The film is the frontrunner across Oscar Pundits to be nominated in the International Film category at the Academy Awards.

The Malayalam-Hindi feature starring Kani Kusruti, Divya Prabha, Chhaya Kadam, Hridhu Haroon and Azees Nedumangad, All We Imagine as Light is the story of Nurse Prabha, whose routine is troubled when she receives an unexpected gift from her estranged husband. Her younger roommate, Anu, tries in vain to find a spot in the city to be intimate with her boyfriend. A trip to a beach town allows them to find a space for their desires to manifest.

The film is an official Indo-French co-production between Chalk and Cheese Films from India and petit chaos from France.

The highly anticipated Netflix series, Rakt Bramhand – The Bloody Kingdom, has officially kicked off production in Mumbai. For this ambitious project, Raj & DK partner with director Rahi Anil Barve and long-time collaborator Sita R Menon, under their production company, D2R Films. The series promises a gripping, edgy narrative set against the backdrop of a fantastical kingdom with bloody action and spectacular visuals. The series boasts a stellar cast, including Aditya Roy Kapur, Samantha Ruth Prabhu, Ali Fazal, and Wamiqa Gabbi. Set in a fantastical realm, the show promises to be an epic tale filled with intrigue, betrayal, and thrilling action.

The production team has been hard at work preparing for this ambitious undertaking. Earlier this year, it was revealed that the lead actors, Aditya Roy Kapur and Samantha Ruth Prabhu, had undergone rigorous sword-fighting training to perfect their roles. Now, their skills are being put to the test as they bring their characters to life on screen.

Despite the demanding schedule of simultaneously filming the third season of their popular series The Family Man, Raj Nidimoru and Krishna DK are closely involved in overseeing every aspect of Rakt Bramhand – The Bloody Kingdom. The creators are known for their ability to blend humor, action, and compelling storytelling, and the series is expected to be no exception.

As per a report in Mid-day, a source from the set shared insights into the production process, “Rakt Bramhand is Raj-DK’s first action-fantasy series set in a fictitious kingdom. Even as they are shooting The Family Man, they are constantly supervising Rakt Bramhand’s progress. The sheer scale of the production is something they haven’t attempted before. We started shooting two weeks ago, and are currently canning some elaborate action sequences at Bahubali Studio in Borivali. There will be a short 10-day break soon, after which we will regroup in October. Most of the shoot will take place on this set and in other parts of the city till February 2025.”

Pre-Production Begins; Ranveer’s Preparation Kicks Off in March
A source has revealed to News18 Showsha that while the production has been postponed, the pre-production work on Don 3 is already underway. The exciting news for Ranveer Singh fans is that he will begin his preparations for the film in March 2024. A source shared, “The pre-production work on the film is currently underway. And the prep on the same will begin next year in March as apart from Farhan, Ranveer is also busy with Aditya Dhar’s untitled next and recently embraced fatherhood.”

Indeed, Ranveer Singh and his wife, Deepika Padukone, welcomed their first child, a baby girl, on September 8, adding more significance to his already busy 2024 schedule. As the source suggests, Singh will need to balance fatherhood with his professional commitments, especially as he takes on the role of Don, a character immortalised by Amitabh Bachchan and later Shah Rukh Khan.

While Ranveer Singh gears up for Don 3, his co-star Kiara Advani has her hands full with other high-profile projects. She is currently involved in War 2 alongside Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR.

The Bandra police arrested a 21-year-old man, identified as Ujjair Faiz Mohiuddin, for allegedly breaching actor Salman Khan’s security convoy. The incident occurred on the night of Tuesday, September 18, between Mehboob Studio and Galaxy Apartments, as the biker followed Khan’s convoy at high speed on a two-wheeler. Despite multiple warnings from Salman Khan’s security personnel, Mohiuddin persisted in his approach.

Breach in Security Convoy
According to reports, the incident took place between 12:15 am and 12:25 am when Mohiuddin reportedly attempted to reach Salman Khan’s vehicle. Despite the security team’s repeated attempts to warn him, the 21-year-old biker did not comply. As a result, Khan’s security personnel eventually apprehended Mohiuddin and handed him over to the Bandra police.
Legal Actions Taken
The police have registered a case against Mohiuddin under sections 125 (act endangering life or personal safety of others) and 281 (rash driving) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. It was revealed during the investigation that the accused is a student residing near Rizvi College in Bandra West.
Previous Incident Involving Salman Khan’s Father
It is worth mentioning here that just a day later on Wednesday morning, Salman Khan’s father, veteran screenwriter Salim Khan, faced a potential threat. According to reports, two individuals approached Salim Khan during his routine morning walk. One of the men, while riding a scooty, allegedly made a remark referring to notorious gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, stating, “Lawrence Bishnoi ko bheju kya?” before driving off.

Following Salim Khan’s complaint, the police tracked down the duo through CCTV footage and arrested them. Upon questioning, the man revealed that he had carried out the act to impress his girlfriend. The police have registered a case against the two under sections 353(2) (statement conducing to public mischief), 292 (nuisance not otherwise provided for), and 3(5) (general explanation) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at the Bandra police station.

In a social media post, Bazmee shared his stance, stating, “Some media personnel are misinterpreting my statement. As a filmmaker with over three decades of experience, I focus on crafting compelling stories, not getting entangled in film release or business dynamics. I’ve seen many films succeed despite releasing on the same day.” He added, “It seems like my words were lost in translation. Let me rephrase: I’m thrilled for both Singham 3 and! Two amazing films, two talented teams! Let’s do it together.”

For the unversed, the matter fuelled up when a Mid-Day article quoted Bazmee saying, “Why should I talk to him? It’s a business decision between producers, and I am just the director. Singham Again’s team is insisting on a Diwali release. Clashes are never a good idea. I know that we had announced Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3’s release date a year in advance, but what can we do? I’ve always maintained that a good film doesn’t need a date to work. I’m the last person to get involved in box-office numbers and release dates. These are decisions and numbers calculated by producers and distributors.” Meanwhile, the filmmaker asserted that he only told the publication, “Ajay and Rohit are my friends, why should I talk to them about this? This is a matter for the producers, and it’s ultimately their decision.”

The Bombay High Court has instructed the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) to make a final decision by Wednesday regarding the release of Kangana Ranaut’s film Emergency. The film, co-produced by Zee Entertainment Enterprises, has faced delays after Sikh organizations raised objections, alleging that it misrepresents their community. This move comes at a critical time as the producers await the censor certificate to allow the film to hit theatres.

Creative Freedom and Censorship Debates Take Centre-stage
Justice BP Colabawalla and Justice Firdosh Pooniwalla, who heard the case, emphasized the importance of creative freedom and questioned whether the CBFC’s role was to safeguard public order. Justice Colabawalla noted that Emergency is a work of fiction and not a documentary, stressing that audiences should not be viewed as “naive.” He stated, “What about creative freedom? It’s not for CBFC to decide whether this affects public order.”
Sensitive Content and Political Implications
The CBFC counsel, Abhinav Chandrachud, explained that the delay was due to concerns over certain scenes, particularly involving a polarising political figure depicted in the film. The Board has been scrutinizing whether these scenes are factually accurate, citing concerns that they may spark controversy. In response, the High Court criticized the CBFC for its indecision, saying, “There was enough time given to decide on either giving a certificate or rejecting it.”

Zee’s counsel, Venkatesh Dhond, hinted that political considerations might be delaying the certification, specifically referencing the potential impact on upcoming elections in Haryana. However, the CBFC countered that Punjab, not Haryana, was the state in question.
Financial Stakes and Legal Precedents
The film, starring Kangana Ranaut as Indira Gandhi and also featuring actors Anupam Kher and Shreyas Talpade, explores the Emergency period of 1975. Its release carries substantial financial implications for the producers, as noted by the court. The legal journey has already seen action in the Madhya Pradesh High Court, where a petition against the film was disposed of after the CBFC informed the court that no certificate had been issued at the time.

As the legal battle continues, the Bombay High Court urged the CBFC to take a clear stand on the issue. “Let’s see what the revising committee says. Have the courage to say that the film should not be released,” the court stated, urging a prompt decision.

The actress will illuminate the Bandra-Worli Sea Link in Mumbai in red to spread awareness on cancer this day. She will be joined by young cancer patients for this landmark event.

In addition to illuminating the sea link, Rani Mukerji will also present roses and gifts to the children participating in the event. World Rose Day commemorates the memory of 12-year-old Melinda Rose from Canada, who was diagnosed with Askin’s Tumor, a rare blood cancer.

Meanwhile speaking about Rani Mukerji, the actress was last seen in Mrs. Chatterjee vs Norway, that was inspired by the true story of a mother whose kids were taken away by Norwegian authorities.
