The entertainment industry was plunged into sorrow on Wednesday morning as news of the untimely demise of Anil Mehta, the stepfather of model actress Malaika Arora, emerged. Mehta, 65, allegedly lost his life after jumping from the sixth-floor balcony of his Bandra residence.

Reports say that the incident occurred around 9 am, while Mehta’s wife, Joyce Polycarp, was at home. She noticed her husband’s footwear in the living room and, upon searching for him, was met with a distressing scene. From her balcony, she witnessed a security guard frantically calling for help. It was then that she realized the gravity of the situation.

Hours before the tragic event, Mehta had spoken to his daughters, Malaika and Amrita Arora, expressing feelings of weariness and distress. India Today reports that sources said that Mehta had said, “I’m sick and tired.”

A post-mortem examination is currently underway at Bhabha Hospital to determine the exact cause of death. The news of Mehta’s passing has sent shockwaves through the entertainment industry and beyond, with an outpouring of grief and condolences from friends, colleagues, and fans.

Indian actor-comedian Vir Das is set to host the 2024 International Emmy Awards. The ceremony, which honours excellence in television programming from around the world, will take place on November 25 in New York City. The announcement was made on Wednesday by the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. Das, who has been nominated for and won International Emmys in the past, expressed his excitement and gratitude for the opportunity.

Sharing the news and his excitement on social media, Das wrote, “Thanks to your support, an Indian Emmy Host. I can’t wait to host the @iemmys this year! Crazy. Thank you for having me. While two classics of 2000s – Bhool Bhulaiyaa title song, and Ami Je Tomar – are set to feature in Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, we have exclusively learnt that the love ballad, Labon Ko, is all set to make its way back.

According to our highly placed sources, Kartik Aaryan and Tripti Dimri will feature in the recreated version of Labon Ko from Bhool Bhulaiyaa (2007). “The song will be shot next week at Ladakh. The team plans to shoot a sensual romantic number featuring Kartik Aaryan and Tripti Dimri. The original song was a chartbuster and the makers are confident to make this even bigger,” a source told Bollywood Hungama.

Before the romantic song, Kartik Aaryan will shoot for 2 more songs in Mumbai this week. “It’s the title track and another romantic number that they will shoot. The music album of Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 will have 5 chartbuster numbers,” the source promised.

Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 is produced by Bhushan Kumar and is set to release on Diwali 2024. The film is the most awaited film of 2024, and the success of Stree 2 has made the hype even bigger. Kartik Aaryan returns to play his most loved character of Rooh Baba.

Actor Siddhant Chaturvedi recently shared his thoughts on the makers of Ananya Panday’s debut OTT show Call Me Bae referencing his viral comment from a 2020 interview. The show, which launched on Prime Video last month, includes a lighthearted nod to Chaturvedi’s famous remark about the struggles faced by outsiders in Bollywood.

The Viral Moment Revisited in Call Me Bae
During a press conference for the upcoming IIFA Awards, Siddhant Chaturvedi expressed his delight that the creators of Call Me Bae found his statement impactful enough to include it in the series. “It’s funny, it’s cute. It’s actually a very nice show. I’m glad that they thought that line was important enough to be used. And the show is really doing well. It’s trending right now. So, best wishes to the whole team,” Chaturvedi said in an interaction with PTI.

The moment in question dates back to a 2020 roundtable interview, where Siddhant’s comment became a viral sensation. Ananya Panday, daughter of actor Chunky Panday, had equated career success in Bollywood to appearing on the popular talk show Koffee with Karan. Chaturvedi had responded with the now-iconic line, “The difference is jahaan humare sapne poore hote hain, wahi inka struggle shuru hota hai (The difference is that their struggles begin where ours end).”

Having said that, it is worth mentioning here that post the incident, Ananya and Siddhant shared the screen space in two films, Gehraiyaan and Kho Gaye Hum Kahan. Both films were directly released on OTT. 

Speaking of the professional front, Siddhant is currently gearing up for his next film, Yudhra. The film also stars Raghav Juyal as the antagonist and Malavika Mohanan as the female lead. However, after the leap and after suffering a miscarriage due to a political rival, Kavya decides to change her career and city relocating to Mumbai after she divorces her husband, Adhiraj. Now, sharing a completely different lifestyle, Kavya continues to lend support to others but her life yet again becomes upside down when she comes face to face to Adhiraj once again.

The well-made musical, Taal (1999), completed 25 years on August 13 this year. Starring Anil Kapoor, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Akshaye Khanna, the film is remembered for its great performances, grandeur, dramatic and romantic moments and above all, a legendary soundtrack by A R Rahman. Realizing that the film and its music have a strong recall value, the makers of the film have decided to celebrate the landmark occasion in a grand manner.

Bollywood Hungama has learnt that a special screening of the film will be held in Mumbai to celebrate its 25th anniversary. Popular radio station, Radio Nasha, has taken the initiative to organize the screening on Friday, September 20, at a multiplex in Mumbai.

A source told Bollywood Hungama, “Anil Kapoor, A R Rahman, Subhash Ghai and Shiamak Davar have confirmed their presence. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Akshaye Khanna haven’t been confirmed yet. The other important members of the film will also be getting an invite. Along with the team of the film, fans can also be a part of this unforgettable event as they’ll have a chance to win tickets to the premiere.”

The source continued, “As it happens with the screenings of Radio Nasha, the cast and crew members will be felicitated and will be encouraged to share their memories and trivia. Mr Ghai is always happy to speak about his experience. Anil Kapoor, whose performance in the film was much loved, will surely add a dash of humour to the questions thrown at him. A R Rahman’s presence will take the event many notches higher. Finally, Shaimak Davar, who became a household name with this film along with Dil To Pagal Hai (1997), will also go down memory lane.”

Taal, meanwhile, will also see a re-release in cinemas across the country on Friday, September 20. Bollywood Hungama, two weeks ago, was one of the first ones to break this news. An industry insider said, “Taal is a film which was made for the big screen. There’s a generation which wasn’t born or was too small when Taal was released. They’ll get a chance to watch the film, including its beautifully composed and stunning shot songs, in cinemas and it’ll surely make for a memorable experience.”

Radio Nasha has held several such screenings of significant films in the past. One of their most memorable events was the screening of Hum Aapke Hain Koun (1994), on its 25th anniversary. It was held on August 9, 2019, at Mumbai’s Liberty Cinema. Salman Khan, Madhuri Dixit, director Sooraj Barjatya and many others graced the screening.

In 2022, Radio Nasha organized a screening of Gupt (1994) on its 25th anniversary, on July 9 at Metro Inox Cinema in the presence of the cast and crew. Bobby Deol made the evening memorable as he danced to his entry song ‘Duniya Haseeno Ka Mela’ when it was played on the screen. A year ago, the 30th anniversary special screening of Khalnayak (1994) was held on September 4 and was attended by none other than Sanjay Dutt.
