Priyanka Chopra Jonas’ Purple Pebble Pictures has joined hands with Rajshri Entertainment to present the Marathi film Paani, a directorial debut by Addinath M. Kothare under the banner of Kothare Vision Pvt Ltd. The film is slated for release on October 18, 2024. Paani marks a significant milestone for Rajshri Entertainment as it ventures into Marathi production for the first time, while Priyanka Chopra Jonas’ Purple Pebble Pictures expands its footprint in the regional film landscape.

Written by Nitin Dixit, Paani boasts a stellar cast including Addinath M. Kothare, Rucha Vaidya, Subodh Bhave, Rajit Kapur, Kishor Kadam, Nitin Dixit, Sachin Goswami, Mohanabai, Shripad Joshi, and Vikas Pandurang Patil. The film is produced by Neha Barjatya and the late Rajjat Barjatya from Rajshri Entertainment, along with Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Dr Madhu Chopra under Purple Pebble Pictures. Mahesh Kothare and Siddharth Chopra serve as associate producers.

Bollywood superstar Salman Khan is set to captivate audiences once again with his upcoming action-packed film, Sikandar. Directed by AR Murugadoss, the project has been generating immense buzz since its inception, and the latest updates have only heightened anticipation.

According to Dainik Bhaskar, Khan will be donning a double role in the film. One avatar is that of a successful businessman known for his philanthropic endeavours. Portrayed as a kind-hearted individual, this character is a far cry from the action hero image that Khan is synonymous with. However, the other side of the coin reveals a different facet of his persona – a ‘Dabang’ from the past. This dual nature promises to add depth and complexity to Khan’s character, offering fans a fresh perspective on the beloved actor.

To amplify the film’s action sequences, the makers have reportedly ordered a staggering 10,000 pistols and bullets for an upcoming shoot schedule commencing on August 22. The 40-day shooting schedule is expected to be a high-octane affair, filled with adrenaline-pumping moments.

Sikandar is shaping up to be a visual spectacle, with the director aiming to deliver a perfect blend of action and emotion. The first shooting schedule reportedly featured a thrilling fight sequence between Khan and the villain’s son, played by Sathyaraj, on a private chartered plane.

Khan has opted out of several projects in the past two months to focus solely on this film, which is slated for an Eid 2025 release. This includes his absence from the popular reality show, Bigg Boss. While the actor attempted to revive Rajkumar Gupta’s biopic on Ravindra Kaushik, India’s most celebrated spy, the project unfortunately did not materialize.

Sikandar is produced by Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment. Rashmika Mandanna will be the leading lady of this project.

The documentary Angry Young Men was released on Amazon Prime Video today, that is, August 20, and it educates viewers about some fascinating trivia. It is about the glorious career of Salim Khan and Javed Akhtar, who were known as Salim-Javed and how they changed the course of Indian cinema. A documentary on them would be incomplete if it didn’t focus on their split, which shocked and saddened the industry as well as fans. It also consists of interviews with their family members and the bond they shared with each other.

Farhan Akhtar spoke about Salim Khan’s children, “All my memories (of childhood) hugely involved spending time, especially with Sohail and Alvira. Salman and Arbaaz were older than I was. So, as much as I wanted to hang out with them, I don’t think they wanted to hang out with me (laughs). I was like a proper kid-kid, like, just running around doing stupid things like eating grass (laughs)!”

Salman Khan said, “It was like everyone was like family. Anyone could go to anyone’s house. I taught Farhan and Zoya how to cycle.”

Farhan Akhtar’s filmmaker sister Zoya Akhtar remembered this bicycle episode, “I was just kind of struggling and I remember Salman was like, ‘Just go for it. Nothing is going to happen. You’ll fall. Then you’ll get up and you’ll go again’. And it’s something that stays, you know.”

Farhan Akhtar also opened up on what happened after the split took place, “To a certain degree, I mean, of course, it did have an effect because you realize that something is not the same. But, at no point did I ever feel like I can’t go there.”

An interesting aspect of the documentary was Salim Khan and Javed Akhtar, along with others, revealing interesting trivia about writing two of their most accomplished works, Sholay and Deewaar. Incidentally, both were released in the same year.

Ibrahim Ali Khan’s upcoming sports drama, Diler, has hit a roadblock in its production schedule. The film, helmed by director Kunal Deshmukh, was initially slated for a significant portion of its shoot in the UK. However, due to the escalating unrest and anti-immigration protests in the country, producer Dinesh Vijan has made the crucial decision to cancel the London leg entirely.

According to the report in Mid-day, the production team had conducted a recce and look tests in London towards the end of July, with a comprehensive shooting schedule planned. However, the deteriorating situation in the UK prompted the makers to prioritize the safety of their cast and crew. As a source close to the production revealed, “In July-end, the team did recce and look tests in London. Kunal had lined up a straight schedule during which significant portions of the film would have been canned. But after the situation worsened, the makers felt it would be very expensive to hire exhaustive security.”

With the safety of his team being paramount, Dinesh Vijan has opted for a complete overhaul of the shooting plan. The production is now on a frantic search for suitable locations within India. “For Dinesh, his unit’s safety is paramount. So, he scrapped the London leg and instructed his team to consider domestic locations,” the source added. Mumbai is currently the focus of the location scouting, intending to commence shooting in the first week of September.

The sudden change in plans is undoubtedly a setback for the film, but it highlights the producer’s commitment to the well-being of his team. Diler, which is reportedly centered on the life of a marathoner, marks Ibrahim Ali Khan’s second film after his Bollywood debut, Sarzameen, opposite Kajol and Prithviraj Sukumaran.

ZEE5 today announced its upcoming movie Berlin, a spy thriller that has already taken the international film circuit by storm. Set against the backdrop of 1990s New Delhi, this first-of-its-kind espionage drama has garnered critical acclaim at various prestigious film festivals worldwide. Bollywood has seen comedy, action, spy and even horror comedy franchises in recent times. But Krrish is a unique series as it has a superhero as the protagonist. Though Krrish 3 (2013) was released nearly 11 years ago, the franchise continues to remain popular and there’s tremendous excitement for its next part, Krrish 4. A few days ago, reports came in that Shraddha Kapoor will be seen opposite the male protagonist, Hrithik Roshan, in the upcoming instalment of this series. Bollywood Hungama, however, has learned that this piece of information is not true.

A source told Bollywood Hungama, “Krrish 4 is India’s most ambitious superhero film in the making and the pre-production work for the film is on in full force. The creative team is currently adding final touches to the script. All casting rumours surrounding the film are untrue. We haven’t even begun the casting process yet.”

Hrithik Roshan is currently shooting for War 2, co-starring Jr NTR and Kiara Advani. It is scheduled to be released on Independence Day 2025. Yesterday, Bollywood Hungama reported that the superstar will be seen in the role of Alia Bhatt’s mentor in Alpha. This female-led spy film also stars Sharvari, Bobby Deol and Anil Kapoor and is a part of YRF Spy Universe. Shraddha Kapoor, meanwhile, was recently seen in Stree 2. It was released last week and has emerged as a huge blockbuster.

The Krrish series began with Koi Mil Gaya. Released in 2003, it tells the story of a developmentally delayed man who gets extraordinary powers after coming into contact with a friendly alien. The next part, Krrish (2006), is the story of this man’s son who also benefits from the powers and is now a superhero. Krrish 3 takes their story forward. While Koi Mil Gaya starred Preity Zinta, Priyanka Chopra was the love interest of Hrithik Roshan in Krrish and Krrish 3.

Abhishek Banerjee, currently basking in the success of his recent releases Stree 2 and Vedaa, has found himself at the center of a controversy involving Dharma Productions. The actor, who co-owns a casting agency with his business partner Anmol Ahuja, has addressed the issue in a statement clarifying a miscommunication that led to a stir.

The controversy erupted when Banerjee shared an anecdote about being removed from the casting process of the 2012 film Agneepath. In a recent interview, he mentioned that he and his partner were young and inexperienced at the time and couldn’t align with the vision of director Karan Malhotra. This statement was misinterpreted by some as an accusation against Dharma Productions. Talking about the same to Free Press Journal, Abhishek said, “Dharma ke dawaze humare liye humesha ke liye band ho gaye the (The doors for Dharma had shut forever). Hua ye tha Hrithik wali Agneepath mai nikal diya tha unhone (It so happened that they had removed me from the Hrithik starrer Agneepath). There was a reason for it, Karan sir was there, and we were kids at that time, 32-33 years old. Piyush Mishra recommended our name to Karan Johar.”

Revealing further details on what happened, Abhishek continued, “It was a Dharma film, before that I did The Dirty Picture. It was a big film, and I was on cloud nine when I got a Dharma film. The casting began and we were at that time, Anurag Kashyap type Gangs of Wasseypur’s characters. They wanted to cast villains in Agneepath, and we were there but it did not suit them. Karan Johar ko laga inko thodi khada karunga mein Hrithik ke samne (how can we make them stand against someone like Hrithik Roshan). They wanted some kind of presence.”

To clear the air, Banerjee issued a statement on Monday, August 19, expressing his deep respect for Dharma Productions and Karan Johar. He emphasized that he never intended to portray the situation negatively and that the decision to remove his casting agency was made by the director’s team. He also highlighted that he and his company have worked on several successful projects with Dharma post Agneepath, including Ok Jaanu, Student of the Year 2, Kalank, and more recently, Kill and Gyaarah Gyaarah.

He said, “This week I have been blessed ???? with two releases and one controversy. I’ve been reading and hearing a lot of reports about Dharma Productions supposedly firing my company, Casting Bay, during the casting process of Agneepath (2012). Unfortunately, this situation has been completely misrepresented as accusatory on our part. In a podcast/interview, I had stated the reason for our dismissal, acknowledging that we were unable to align with the vision of director Karan Malhotra for Agneepath. I also emphasized that Anmol and I were quite young at the time, around 20 to 23 years old, with little to no experience in casting for a major commercial film, which perhaps led to us misinterpreting Mr. Malhotra’s requirements for the project.”

“I have not accused or suggested any wrongdoing on the part of Dharma Productions. In fact, I have deep respect for Dharma Productions and Karan Johar,” Banerjee said in his statement. “I never mentioned Karan Johar in relation to our dismissal, yet some reports falsely claim that he was the one who fired us. The decision was actually made by Mr. Malhotra’s team, and I accepted our mistakes.”

Banerjee’s intention behind sharing the story was to inspire young people, emphasizing that setbacks can be overcome. He expressed gratitude towards Dharma for their continued support and collaboration. “I shared this story to encourage young people that even if you fail or hit a roadblock, you can always bounce back, as we did. We went on to work on several projects with Dharma, starting with Ok Jaanu, Student of the Year 2, Kalank and recent releases like – Kill and Gyaarah Gyaarah. Additionally, Dharma even cast me as an actor in Ajeeb Daastaans. Dharma has always been very good to me and to my company, Casting Bay. It is a relationship we value and nurture. PS: I am not putting this out for the hamper,” the actor concluded.

This Dussehra, it will be no less than the ‘clash of titans’ as Bollywood and South stars will be arriving in cinemas together, leaving audiences spoilt for choices. While the first half of the year was slow in terms of releases, many big entertainers were pushed to the second half of 2024, thereby leading to a clash in theatres. On October 10, theatres will witness three major films vying for space – namely, Rajinikanth starrer Vettaiyan, Alia Bhatt starrer Jigra, and Suriya starrer Kanguva. Along with that, Dhruva Sarja starrer Martin, also a Pan-India entertainer, will be releasing on the same date as well.

On August 19, trade analyst Taran Adarsh confirmed this clash on his official social media handle on X, aka Twitter and called it the ‘The Mighty Clash’. In the past, many trade analysts have pointed out that such kind of clashes often result in deserving films not acquiring enough screen space which often leads to films not being able to perform to their full potential.

In the case of the October 10 aka Dussehra clash, Vettaiyan, although originally is a Tamil language drama, will be releasing in multiple languages. The film also has immense hype, considering that it marks the return of Thalaivar in theatres after the grand success of Jailer and his extended cameo in his daughter Aishwarya’s film Lal Salaam. Moreover, the TJ Gnanavel directorial boasts of an extensive star cast apart from Rajinikanth, which includes the likes of Rana Daggubati, Fahadh Faasil, Manju Warrier, and it even marks the Rajini-Amitabh Bachchan reunion on screen after several decades, further sparking curiosity among audiences as it gears up to release in several languages including Hindi.

Meanwhile, Jigra explores a rather dark theme and traces the journey of sibling duo played by Alia Bhatt who is the elder sister to Vedang Raina. The latter is making his theatrical debut after he received appreciation for his performance in the Netflix film The Archies. Whereas, Bhatt will be returning to theatres after Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani that garnered her accolades and her Hollywood debut Heart of Stone.

Speaking of Kanguva, the film is a magnum opus mounted on an extensive budget and traces the journey of Suriya in multiple eras. Furthermore, it marks the Tamil debut of Bobby Deol and Disha Patani with the former playing the lead antagonist. The recently released teaser has sparked even more curiosity among fans who are awaiting to see the Tamil superstar in a unique avatar. Directed by Siva, this one too will be releasing in multiple languages including Hindi.

Adding to this mix is Dhruva Sarja starrer Martin where the makers are going all out to make it one of his biggest films of his career. While Dhruva has established his name in the world of Kannada cinema, this will be his first tryst with Bollywood as it will be his first pan India release.
