The IAA (International Advertising Association) India Chapter hosted the 11th edition of the IAA Leadership Awards on Tuesday August 6 in Mumbai. Bollywood star Ananya Panday was presented with the IAA Brand Endorser Of The Year Female.

The evening saw a multitude of discussions that featured some of the biggest names in the industry of media and advertising.

On the work front, Ananya will next be seen in the Prime Video web show Call Me Bae, which is directed by Collin D’Cunha. She also has the cyber thriller movie CTRL helmed by filmmaker Vikramaditya Motwane in the pipeline.

Filmmaker Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra recently opened up about the heartbreak of his debut film, Samjhauta Express, being shut down just months before its scheduled start date. The film was set to mark the acting debut of Abhishek Bachchan and featured a highly sensitive subject matter that led to its cancellation. In an interview on Shiv Talwar’s YouTube channel, Mehra shared the story behind the unrealized project.

A Risky Subject: Abhishek Bachchan’s Role as a Pakistani Terrorist
Samjhauta Express, co-written by Mehra and Kamlesh Pandey, was intended to introduce Abhishek Bachchan to Bollywood. The film’s storyline revolved around Abhishek playing a Pakistani terrorist whose heart is filled with hate for India after his innocent father is wrongly framed as a terrorist. This character infiltrates India to free his father from jail but ends up developing an unintended bond with an Indian police officer. The emotional climax sees the police officer forced to kill Abhishek’s character, whose body is then repatriated on the Samjhauta Express.

Mehra elaborated on the film’s profound message: “Until there are these dark holes of hatred between our two nations, we will keep filling them up with the bodies of our children. But they will never get filled. The only way we can build a bridge is through love.” However, the industry deemed the subject too sensitive, especially for a debut film, leading to the project being called off three months before shooting was to begin.
Industry Backlash and Emotional Fallout
The sensitive nature of the film’s content made industry insiders wary. Mehra recalled, “The industry felt that for Abhishek Bachchan to play a Pakistani terrorist in his first film would be playing with fire, so the intelligent minds decided… The shoot was called off just three months before it was supposed to start.” In his grief over the project’s cancellation, Mehra destroyed all the research material, including the script and photos from the look test.

Ultimately, Abhishek Bachchan made his debut with JP Dutta’s Refugee. He later collaborated with Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra on the film Delhi-6.

Yesterday, Ajay Devgn posted a lovely video announcing the commencement of the shoot of Son Of Sardaar 2 in the United Kingdom. The video got a fine response and confirmed the fact that the sequel to the action comedy is indeed being made. Meanwhile, Bollywood Hungama has learned that the makers of the much-loved horror flick Shaitaan (2024) have also begun work on the sequel. This means that Ajay Devgn is the only actor of Indian cinema to be a part of as many as eight film franchises.

A source told Bollywood Hungama, “The work has begun on the writing of Shaitaan 2. Once the script is locked, the makers along with Ajay Devgn will decide when the film should go on floors. The first part was one of the biggest hits of the year and got a lot of acclaim. Hence, they are clear that they’ll take their time in getting the script right. Only then will they move forward.”

The source continued, “With Shaitaan 2 and Son Of Sardaar 2, Ajay Devgn has attained the status of being the only Indian actor to headline the most number of successful franchises. Each film features a different genre, ranging from action and drama to romance and comedy.”

These 8 franchise films of Ajay Devgn are Golmaal (4 films), Singham (2 films with appearances in Rohit Shetty’s cop universe films Simbaa and Sooryavanshi), Dhamaal (3 films with appearance by Ajay in the third part, Total Dhamaal), Drishyam (2 films), Raid (sequel expected to release this year), De De Pyaar De (sequel to release on May 1, 2025), Son Of Sardaar and Shaitaan.

The source added, “Globally, the trend of franchise films has gained popularity, with fans eager to see their favourite actors reprise their iconic roles. Ajay Devgn follows this path, consistently delivering successful projects in his franchise films. With each new announcement, he keeps fans hooked and builds anticipation for his character’s next appearance in the franchise.”

Meanwhile, work on Drishyam 3 is also happening in full force and the formal announcement will happen once the modalities are worked out.

Zayed Khan, once a promising star in Bollywood, has candidly opened up about the factors that contributed to the decline of his career. In a recent interview, the actor revealed that his focus on multi-starrer films had a significant impact on his journey.

For the unversed, the son of veteran actor Sanjay Khan, Zayed entered the industry with much fanfare. While his debut film, Chura Liyaa Hai Tumne, was a modest success, it was his role in Farah Khan’s Main Hoon Na that catapulted him to stardom. However, subsequent films, including several multi-starrer projects, failed to replicate the initial success.
Zayed Khan ADMITS Taking Early Success for Granted
In a conversation with Zoom, Zayed admitted to taking his early success for granted and not prioritising solo lead roles. He asserted, “I took my stardom for granted and didn’t listen to a lot of people who advised me to do single-hero films. Once you are absorbed by a market, you have to show them that you are able to hold a film on your shoulders. It’s a big responsibility. I wanted to work in big films. I wasn’t bred to do artistic films. I was so much into the action genre that big-ticket action films always got the better of me.”
Zayed Khan REGRETS Doing Multi-Starrer Films
Explaining his take further, Zayed said, “When many actors come together, budgets are justified to make them. Probably I went into that too soon. I should have built my brand before going for big-ticket films. I guess I regret that. Some of them didn’t just hit the golden goose. I mean, who won’t sign a film like Blue.”
Zayed Khan on Father Sanjay Khan’s Disapproval
The actor also shared insights into his strained relationship with his father over his career choices. He recalled, “He was very miffed with me. We used to have a lot of arguments about that. He had his reservations.”

Zayed also revealed that he stayed away from films and took a back seat because he was being offered “second fiddle” roles, which he didn’t want to take up. “Offers started coming in where they wanted to make me a second fiddle or a supervillain, and I wasn’t ready to do those kinds of roles,” he shared.

Sidharth now has one new project in hand: Mitti directed by Balwinder Singh Janjua is an action film being shot in Uttarakhand.

Not willing to speak much on the project, Janjua said, “It is an action drama set in Uttarakhand. It is a story about guilt, about living with the baggage of guilt. It is the story of saving your home and your zameen, your mitti. It is about family and relationships.”

The much-awaited reunion of director Aanand L Rai and actor Dhanush, following the blockbuster success of Raanjhanaa, is taking shape with the potential addition of Kriti Sanon to the cast of their upcoming romantic epic, Tere Ishk Mein. Launched a year ago with a grand announcement featuring AR Rahman as the music composer and Irshad Kamil as the lyricist, the film has been shrouded in mystery regarding its cast. However, a report reveals that Kriti Sanon is in the final stages of negotiations to share the screen with Dhanush in this musical love story.

A source close to the development shared with Pinkvilla, “Kriti was impressed by the narration she received from Aanand L Rai a few months ago. She is particularly drawn to the complexity of her character and the transformative journey she undergoes in the film. While she has verbally agreed to the project, the final paperwork is expected to be completed within the next two weeks.”

The source further hinted at another pivotal role in the film, stating, “Similar to the impact of Abhay Deol’s character in Raanjhanaa, Tere Ishk Mein also features a substantial role for a male actor. The makers are currently in discussions with multiple actors and will finalize the casting soon.”

With the film slated to commence production in October 2024 and a theatrical release planned for 2025, the anticipation for Tere Ishk Mein is already palpable. Written by Himanshu Sharma and Neeraj Yadav, the film is being produced under the banner of Colour Yellow Productions.

According to Rang, Avneet Kaur agreed to collaborate with the brand during her recent trip to Europe. The actress was provided with several pieces of jewellery to wear and promote on her social media platforms. However, despite multiple promises, Avneet failed to credit the brand in any of her posts featuring the jewellery.

The brand further claimed that when confronted about the issue, Avneet offered to pay for the pieces instead of fulfilling the agreed-upon collaboration. The screenshots shared by Rang reveal a series of messages between the brand’s PR team and Avneet, highlighting the alleged disregard for the terms of the agreement.
