Akshay Kumar is a rare actor who loves to act in multiple films a year across genres. Bollywood Hungama has learned that he has signed the remake of the much-loved 1993 patriotic film, Tirangaa.

A source told Bollywood Hungama, “Narendra Hirawat of NH Studioz has the rights to Tirangaa. They have decided to remake the film as they feel the subject is massy as well as relevant. Since they have the rights, they thought of making good use of it.”

The source also said, “Akshay Kumar was approached, and he greenlit the project. He has also been given the signing amount.” However, there’s no information yet on who’ll direct the film.

Another source told us, “Though the film’s rights are with Narendra Hirawat, he doesn’t have the rights to the title. The title rights rest with Mehul Kumar, who produced and directed the original film. Mehul Kumar, however, hasn’t parted with the title. As a result, the film might have a different title.”

Bollywood Hungama reached out to Narendra Hirawat but he was unavailable for comment. When we contacted Mehul Kumar, he told us, “Yes, I have the title rights. I have even registered another title called Mission Tirangaa. But the film rights are with Narendra Hirawat.”

He further said, “Mr Narendra Hirawat did approach me for the title. I told him that certain landmark films are best not remade. Today, if you remake Tirangaa, people are immediately going to draw comparisons with Nana Patekar and Raaj Kumar. And if the performances are not up to the mark, then people won’t be impressed. I can still understand if they want to remake a forgotten film. But even today, Tirangaa gets viewership. It is shown on television in foreign lands as well. People staying abroad send me pictures of them watching the film!”

He signed off by saying, “Nevertheless, this is just my opinion. It’s up to the rights holder now.”

Tirangaa also starred Mamta Kulkarni, Varsha Usgaonkar and Harish Kumar. It is the story of a brigadier and a cop who attempt to bring down a dreaded terrorist.

The actor sought blessings ahead of the film’s release, which is scheduled for August 15. Generous Donation for Renovation
In a heartwarming gesture, Akshay Kumar, reportedly, donated Rs 1.21 crore towards the renovation of a section of the Haji Ali Dargah. According to a statement by Mohammad Ahmed Taher, the administrative officer of the Haji Ali Trust, Akshay has taken responsibility for the renovation work. The Trust also honored the actor for his generous contribution.

Akshay, dressed in a denim shirt and jeans, with a white cloth tied on his head as a mark of respect, offered a traditional chadar at the dargah. His visit and contribution have garnered praise from fans and the public alike.

The controversy erupted after Kangana Ranaut shared the morphed image of Rahul Gandhi in a post that was aimed at criticizing his recent remarks on the caste census in Parliament. Along with the edited image, Kangana wrote, “Jaati jivi jise bina jaati pooche jaati ganana karani hai (One who wishes to hold a caste census without asking anyone’s caste).”

The post quickly drew widespread criticism on social media, with many netizens condemning the actress for what they described as a distasteful and inflammatory act. The backlash has now escalated into legal action.

Legal Action Against Kangana

Senior Supreme Court lawyer Narendra Mishra has decided to take legal recourse against Kangana Ranaut for the controversial post. Mishra, who has filed a Rs 40 crores defamation case against the actress, stated that it is illegal under the Information Technology Act to edit and morph someone’s picture and share it online without their permission. “This act tarnishes the image of Rahul Gandhi and defames him publicly,” Mishra asserted in a statement.

This is not the first time Kangana has publicly targeted Rahul Gandhi. Just a few days before the defamation notice, she made headlines for suggesting that Gandhi should undergo a drug test. Reacting to his speech on the Union Budget 2024 in the Lok Sabha, Kangana stated, “Rahul Gandhi has no dignity, and yesterday he was saying that we are Shivji’s baraat and this is a Chakravyuh.”

Pilgaonkar expressed his excitement about the project, stating that the overwhelming love for the original film motivated the team to create a sequel. The film will reunite the original cast, including Sachin and his wife Supriya Pilgaonkar, along with the beloved character actor Ashok Saraf.

A few months ago, while Rajkummar Rao was basking in the love he received for Srikanth, reports of him doing a film with producer Jay Shewakramani started doing the rounds. What more? The film was to be directed by Pulkit, who received rave reviews for his film Bhakshak. Now, recent reports suggest that the makers have locked the female lead and it is expected to be Manushi Chhillar.

While Rajkummar Rao is said to have given a go ahead for the film, it will explore the onscreen chemistry of the actor for the first time with the former beauty queen Manushi Chhillar. “The makers were on the lookout for a fresh casting and the pairing of Rajkummar and Manushi spells something new. The duo will share an interesting dynamic in the film,” a source was quoted saying in a Pinkvilla report.

Earlier it was revealed that the film is a gangster drama. In fact, producer Jay Shewakramani had confirmed the news about the actor collaborating with him and Pulkit for the film, sharing a couple of details about this untitled venture. According to Jay, the actor not only had signed on the dotted line but he had also asserted that they were in the pre-production stage in May. Recently the source revealed that the film is expected to go on floors in India next month and that the makers are keen on releasing it next year.  “The details of the plot have been kept under wraps for now, however, the makers are set to take the film on floors in September 2024 with a marathon schedule. Rajkummar Rao is excited about this collaboration and this would be a break for him from the comic space,” the source added.

Meanwhile, currently, Rajkummar Rao is busy with the promotions of his highly-anticipated horror comedy Stree 2 co-starring Shraddha Kapoor along with Pankaj Tripathi, Aparshakti Khurana, and Abhishek Banerjee essaying key characters. The film is slated for release on August 15.

The upcoming film Lahore, 1947 is undoubtedly a mega project that everyone is eagerly anticipating. Made under the banner of Aamir Khan Productions, the film will have a never-seen-before collaboration of Sunny Deol, Rajkumar Santoshi, and Aamir Khan. While the audience has been eagerly waiting for more updates on the film, an exciting piece of news has arrived—and it is about the film’s climax which will be a unique train sequence.

Sources close to the film have revealed that Lahore 1947 team is currently shooting a crucial sequence. This sequence depicts the train journey that the characters undertake between India and Pakistan. Speaking about the scene, a source close to the film said, “The shooting of Lahore 1947 will conclude with the most ambitious train sequence of the Partition era, featuring an extensive scene unlike anything seen before. The film’s climax promises to be a visual spectacle, meticulously crafted to capture the chaotic and emotional essence of the Partition era. This sequence will be filmed over several weeks with a large cast and crew, aiming to offer a fresh experience to the audience.”

Speaking about Lahore 1947, Aamir Khan will take on the role of producer and the film will also star Preity Zinta as well as Sunny’s elder son Karan Deol in prominent roles. In fact, sources revealed exclusively to Bollywood Hungama that the makers are eyeing to release the patriotic drama around the occasion of India’s Republic Day in 2025. “It’s a patriotic film about a man’s love for India and what better than Republic Day for its arrival. Lahore 1947 will most likely be Sunny Deol’s next on the big screen after the historic success of Gadar 2. Aamir Khan also has a cameo appearance in the film,” the source revealed.

Filmmaker Raj Kumar Gupta tasted success in 2018 with the Ajay Devgn starrer Raid as the film received critical and commercial success. It was inspired from real events and it centered around an income tax raid carried out by an upright and honest officer, played by Devgn.

The success of the first film gave rise to Raid 2, the second film in the franchise also starring Devgn in the lead. The makers of the film announced last year that it would be releasing in theatres on November 15 this year. However, recently the makers of another Ajay Devgn starrer Singham Again postponed their film to November 1. The initial release date of the film was August 15.

There were reports earlier this year about Raid 2 being postponed because it looked unlikely for two Ajay Devgn starrers releasing in a span of just 14 days. Now, director Raj Kumar Gupta has exclusively confirmed with Bollywood Hungama that the film is indeed postponed and also threw light on its possible release.

“Raid 2 is happening early next year,” said Gupta. “The exact date of the release will happen from the producers’ side but it’s releasing early next year.”

Raid saw Saurabh Shukla play the role of the antagonist. Raid 2 will be Riteish Deshmukh as Devgn’s nemesis. Interestingly, Gupta’s web show Pill released recently and it saw Riteish play the main protagonist fighting against a corrupt pharma company.

When asked about directing the actor in two opposite characters, Gupta said, “More conversation about Raid 2 will happen when the promotions begin, like what character he is playing. But yes, it has been a great experience of working with him in Pill and Raid 2.”
