August 2024 is gearing up to be a significant month for the Indian film industry, with a series of much-anticipated film releases set to hit the screens. Among the top contenders is Stree 2, the sequel to the 2018 horror-comedy hit Stree, starring Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao. As the release date approaches, the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has officially certified Stree 2 with a U/A rating, and the film’s runtime has also been revealed.

The CBFC certified Stree 2 with a U/A rating on August 8, 2024, paving the way for its theatrical release. The film has a runtime of 149 minutes and 29 seconds, which translates to 2 hours, 29 minutes, and 29 seconds. This duration sets the stage for an engaging cinematic experience, as fans eagerly await the continuation of the story that captured their imaginations in the first film.
August 2024: A Month of Cinematic Showdowns
The release of Stree 2 on August 15, 2024, coincides with India’s Independence Day, a prime slot for film releases. This month is particularly favourable for the box office, with several public holidays creating an extended period of potential moviegoers. The festive mood kicks off with Independence Day and continues with Parsi New Year on August 16, followed by a weekend on August 17-18, and Raksha Bandhan on August 19. The celebrations conclude with Janmashtami on August 26, ensuring a sustained demand for entertainment throughout the month.

Stree 2 will be competing with other major releases such as Khel Khel Mein, starring Akshay Kumar, Vaani Kapoor, and Taapsee Pannu, and Vedaa, featuring John Abraham and Sharvari Wagh.

Filming for the highly anticipated comedy Welcome to the Jungle starring Akshay Kumar hit a speed bump thanks to Mumbai’s monsoon rains. The downpours heavily damaged a massive set constructed at Golden Tobacco Studios in Vile Parle earlier this week.

According to a report in Mid-day, the elaborate set, designed by production designer Shailesh Mahadik, was built to depict a charming Kashmiri town and was originally planned to house a major shooting schedule starting on August 4th. Spanning over 10 acres, the set was so vast that actors reportedly needed golf carts to travel from their trailers.

However, only a section of the set was needed for upcoming scenes after filming wrapped on an earlier portion. This section was then rebuilt in late July. Unfortunately, just days before the scheduled shoot, the unforgiving Mumbai monsoon struck again, causing significant damage to the set.

Taking the challenge in stride, Mahadik’s team wasted no time in starting the reconstruction process as soon as the rains subsided. This marks the third time they’ve had to build the same set, with this iteration being even bigger than before. The new set will house a central house which will be the focus of the upcoming filming schedule.

Director Ahmed Khan said, “We’re managing our actors’ dates, and will shoot with those available [today]. Thanks to our producer Firoz bhai [Nadiadwallah], construction is going on and we are ready to resume work. The redesigned set is bigger.”

Despite the delay, the new, expanded set seems to be the silver lining. With filming set to recommence on August 9, the cast, including Kumar, Suniel Shetty, Raveena Tandon, Jacqueline Fernandez, and Disha Patani, will soon be back on location to bring the world of Welcome to the Jungle to life.

The film stars Akshay Kumar in the lead role. Joining him are a stellar group of talents, including Sanjay Dutt, Suniel Shetty, Arshad Warsi, Paresh Rawal, Johnny Lever, Rajpal Yadav, Tusshar Kapoor, Shreyas Talpade, Krushna Abhishek, Kiku Sharda, Daler Mehndi, Mika Singh, Rahul Dev, Mukesh Tiwari, Sharib Hashmi, Inaamulhaq, Zakir Hussain, Yashpal Sharma. Adding to the charm are the talented actresses Raveena Tandon, Lara Dutta, Jacqueline Fernandez, Disha Patani and  Vrihi Kodvara.

The film is slated for a grand theatrical release on 20th December 2024.

The low phase of the box office is expected to get over in less than a week as three significant Hindi films will release in cinemas on August 15 – Shraddha Kapoor-Rajkummar Rao’s horror comedy Stree 2, Akshay Kumar’s multi-starrer Khel Khel Mein and John Abraham-Sharvari’s action entertainer Vedaa. A lot of footfalls are expected for these three films and hence, expect promos of upcoming exciting films to be attached to these films.

Yesterday, August 8, the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) passed the much-awaited teaser of the Diwali release Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3. The teaser is 1 minute and 32 seconds long and has been awarded a U/A certificate. A trade source told Bollywood Hungama, “Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 is produced by T-Series, who have also backed Khel Khel Mein. With the teaser being certified one week before the latter’s release, one can expect the promo to be attached to the Akshay Kumar film.”

Meanwhile, as per reports, two teasers will be shown with Stree 2 – Skyforce and Chhava. Just like Stree 2, Skyforce is also produced by Jio Studios and Maddock Films. It stars Akshay Kumar in the lead and is all set to release on October 2 this year.

Chhava, meanwhile, is based on the life of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj and stars Vicky Kaushal, Rashmika Mandanna, Divya Dutta and others. It is directed by Laxman Utekar of Zara Hatke Zara Bachke (2023) fame and produced by Maddock Films. It is expected to arrive in theatres on December 6, 2024.

And that’s not all. On August 6, CBFC passed the teaser of Alia Bhatt’s only release of the year, Jigra, helmed by Monica O My Darling (2022) director Vasan Bala. The teaser is expected to be around 2 minutes and has been cleared with a ‘U’ certificate. With the film’s release two months away – October 11 – the promo can be expected to drop soon. However, there’s no information yet on whether Jigra’s teaser will be shown with any of the Independence Day releases.

In a rare instance, as many as three big films are all set to release this Independence Day and the excitement and buzz among the audience and trade circles are quite high. And as it usually happens during festive releases, the promos of upcoming films are attached and presented to the audience on the big screen. This festive season is no exception and Bollywood Hungama has learned that the theatrical trailer of Emergency, starring Kangana Ranaut, will be shown along with the John Abraham-Sharvari starrer Vedaa.

A source told Bollywood Hungama, “Emergency is produced by Zee Studios, and they have also backed Vedaa. A large number of audiences will be watching Vedaa and the Zee team felt that this would be a great time to present the trailer of the ambitious venture to them and thus enhance the buzz for it.”

The source continued, “Accordingly, they applied for the certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). The Examining Committee of the CBFC passed the trailer of Emergency two days back, August 7, with a U/A certificate. The trailer is 2 minutes and 57 minutes long.”

Emergency releases on September 6 and is also directed by Kangana Ranaut. She is also one of the producers of the film and features herself in the role of former Prime Minister of India, Indira Gandhi. The other actors in the film are Anupam Kher as Jayaprakash Narayan, Shreyas Talpade as Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Mahima Chaudhary as Pupul Jayakar, Milind Soman as Sam Manekshaw and the late Satish Kaushik as Jagjivan Ram.

In an interview last year with Times Now Navbharat, Kangana Ranaut said, “I would also like to say that it (Emergency) is an ode to our prime minister, who has been elected three times. It is her life story, whatever good and bad she did. A woman is representative in her own right. But to already assume that I have favoured a (political party), this is a wrong perception.”

Chief Justice Chandrachud has stated the importance of such initiatives in fostering a supportive environment for the Supreme Court staff. The screening is part of a broader effort to promote well-being and awareness among employees.

As per a report in LiveMint, CJI DY Chandrachud told the Bar & Bench that the initiative aims to raise awareness among Supreme Court staff. He noted that such activities, though often unpublicized, are part of broader efforts to support staff, including the recently introduced round-the-clock Ayurvedic clinic for their treatment and relaxation. The film screening will also provide an opportunity for staff members to connect.

Speaking of the film, Laapataa Ladies was released on March 1 this year starring Nitanshi Goel, Pratibha Ranta, and Sparsh Shrivastava in the lead. Meanwhile, Ravi Kishan, Chhaya Kadam, and Geeta Aggarwal Sharma played key roles in the Kiran Rao directorial. The film received positive reviews and is currently available on Netflix.

He has bagged a key role in King alongside Shah Rukh Khan and Suhana Khan. He is excited to venture into this tentpole feature film,” revealed a source to the publication and added that further that character details have been kept under wraps for now.

Known for the web show Flames, Gaurav Manwane is gearing up for his big Bollywood debut with Khel Khel Mein, co-starring Akshay Kumar, along with an ensemble cast including Vaani Kapoor, Taapsee Pannu, Ammy Virk, Fardeen Khan, Aditya Seal and Pragya Jaiswal. The movie is directed by Mudassar Azi and is set for Independence Day 2024 release.

Ask him about it and the actor says, “Landing this role feels like a dream come true for me. This is my first film and I am getting to work alongside an incredible cast, including my childhood hero, Akshay Kumar. I have been a huge fan for years, so this opportunity feels magical to me, it feels surreal. It feels like I have almost manifested this opportunity

Gaurav reveals that getting the film was quite unexpected for him but it was director Mudassar Aziz who wanted him on board. “I got a call from an assistant director on the film who told me that Mudassar Aziz had seen one of my previous audition tapes and really liked it. Two days after the audition, I got the call that I was onboard and I was over the moon with the fact that I was going to shoot a film with Akshay Kumar,” he gushes

The actor shot with the entire cast in Udaipur and even bonded with them over food, including the kachoris and Yakhni pulaos that Taapsee Pannu would order and the delicious meal cooked by Akshay’s chef. But it’s working with Akshay that remains the highlight for him.

Raving about his co-star, Gaurav says, “He is not only a brilliant actor but also one of the most down-to-earth people I have ever met. Anyone can approach him and strike up a conversation, it’s that easy. During my first meeting with him, we were in a scene and I was shaking with excitement. Watching him work is like a masterclass in acting. He brings something new to every take, which is wonderful. He is so free and I love his acting style.
