Since last year, there have been reports that the sequel to Border (1997) is in the works and will star Sunny Deol yet again. In June, the makers dropped the announcement video, and it got a roaring response. It has a voiceover by Sunny Deol with a recreated version of ‘Sandese Aate Hai’, the unforgettable touching song from the first film. The video also mentioned that Border 2 would be ‘India’s biggest war film’ and it added to the hype. Along with the announcement, it also came to light that it’ll be produced by J P Dutta, daughter Nidhi Dutta and the latter’s husband Binnoy K Gandhi. Binnoy’s directorial debut Ghudchadi is all set to release on August 9 and while talking about it exclusively to Bollywood Hungama, we also asked him about Border 2.

Binnoy K Gandhi excitedly said, “We all have grown up watching Border and we all wanted to be a part of the army after watching the film! Border 2 is coming along very well. My wife Nidhi Dutta has written the script. My first reaction after reading it was ‘Wow, your father has written a great script’. She then revealed that she had written it. I refused to believe (laughs). Then, her assistant writer confirmed that Nidhi had indeed written it. It was one of the proudest moments for me. Also, it’s hard to match the first part. And here’s a girl who wants to go to Disneyland every July and suddenly one day writes a befitting script to Border (laughs)! That’s how the journey started on the sequel. As of now, it’s going great. We are planning to shoot in November.”

A lot of names are being speculated for the remainder of the cast of Border 2, from Ayushmann Khurrana to Diljit Dosanjh. Binnoy K Gandhi doesn’t comment on these reports. However, he revealed, “The star cast will be announced soon. Within a month, we are going to organize a big event where we are going to showcase the entire star cast with their characters and their getups.”

Border 2 is directed by Anurag Singh of Kesari (2019) fame.

Fawad Khan and Sanam Saeed’s much-anticipated drama, Barzakh, is facing an unexpected hurdle. The show, which has garnered significant attention and praise since its release, will be removed from YouTube in Pakistan effective August 9, 2024. The decision comes in response to a growing backlash over the show’s portrayal of queer love.

In a statement on August 6, 2024, Zindagi and the Barzakh team expressed their gratitude to the global audience for their support. They acknowledged the challenges posed by the current climate in Pakistan and made the difficult decision to withdraw the show to avoid further alienation.

“We, at Zindagi and Team Barzakh, extend our heartfelt gratitude to our global audience for their unwavering support for Barzakh – a show that was created to bring people together everywhere. But in light of the current public sentiment in Pakistan, we have made the decision to voluntarily withdraw Barzakh from YouTube Pakistan, effective August 9, 2024. This decision underscores our dedication to honouring our audiences without causing alienation,” the statement read.

The series, directed by Asim Abbasi and produced for the streaming platform Zee5, has received extreme backlash since the release of its third episode. Barzakh has been under fire from a section of Pakistani society, with critics accusing the show of violating Islamic principles. The series has been targeted by fans and some influential figures in the Pakistani entertainment industry, who have called for a ban on the show and boycotts of its stars.

Barzakh blends magical realism with supernatural fantasy in a family reunion setting. Set against the breathtaking backdrop of the Hunza Valley, Barzakh invites viewers into a world where the ordinary meets the extraordinary. It is the story of a 76-year-old man who stuns his estranged children and grandchildren by announcing his wedding to the ghost of his first true love. This unconventional event sparks emotional revelations and confrontations as family members gather, unsure whether to celebrate or intervene. As seen in the trailer, Barzakh intricately weaves together folklore against the stunning Hunza Valley backdrop, revealing a mystical world where everyone is interconnected. The excitement is building as Ajay Devgn officially begins filming for Son of Sardaar 2, the much-anticipated sequel to the 2012 hit Son of Sardaar 2. The production has commenced. However, recent rumors have sparked confusion among fans regarding the casting of the film.

Ravi Kishan Replaces Sanjay Dutt?
Hours before the official announcement of the shoot, a source from Mid-Day reported that due to issues with Sanjay Dutt’s UK visa, he would be replaced by Ravi Kishan. According to the source, “Ever since his arrest in 1993, while Sanju has travelled to the US, he has applied for a UK visa multiple times, but never got one. The Son of Sardaar 2 shoot would have been his first trip to the UK. However, after Ajay’s team found out that the senior actor’s visa request had been rejected, they replaced him with Ravi Kishan.”
Sanjay Dutt is NOT dropped from Son Of Sardaar 2
To clarify these rumors, Bollywood Hungama reached out to a source close to the production. The source dismissed the rumors of Sanjay Dutt being replaced by Ravi Kishan, stating, “Sanjay Dutt remains an integral part of the film. The actor will be shooting extensively for the India schedule, as the character demands significant screen presence.”

While confirming the addition of Ravi Kishan to the cast in a pivotal role, the source emphasized that this does not mean Sanjay Dutt has been dropped. Instead, Ravi Kishan’s role is a new addition to the story, and Sanjay Dutt will continue to reprise his original character alongside Ajay Devgn.
Changes in the Star Cast
Son of Sardaar 2 has seen a few changes in its star cast over time. Initially, Sonakshi Sinha was replaced by Mrunal Thakur. The latest rumors suggested that Sanjay Dutt’s UK visa application was rejected due to his past incarceration, leading to his replacement by Ravi Kishan. However, a source from the production has made it clear that Sanjay Dutt will still be part of the movie, shooting his scenes during the India schedule.

Followed by that, several glimpses of Ajay in the Sardaar look, Mrunal Thakur as the ‘soni Punjabi kudi’, Chunky Pandey dancing to the beats of a quintessential Punjabi number, along with some beautiful locales of UK were a part of this clip. In a surprising twist, Vickykumar Gupta, one of the accused in the April firing incident outside the residence of Bollywood superstar Salman Khan in Mumbai, has claimed that he was inspired by the principles of jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi. Gupta filed a bail application on Monday where he stated that his financial struggles and debt drove him to commit the crime along with asserting that Bishnoi had no direct involvement with the case.

Gupta’s lawyers argued that their client was drawn to Bishnoi’s character and principles, which he learned about through electronic, print, and social media. They emphasized that Gupta was not directly influenced by Bishnoi, but rather by his ideology. The accused claimed that the firing was intended to scare Salman Khan for his alleged role in killing two blackbucks in 1998, an act that offended the Bishnoi community, which worships the animal. Gupta maintained that Lawrence Bishnoi had no involvement in the incident and was being wrongly implicated by the prosecution.

The special court, set up under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA Act), has sought a response from the prosecution and adjourned the matter for arguments on August 13. Gupta’s bail plea highlights the complexities of the case, which has drawn attention to the intersection of crime, celebrity culture, and social media influence. As the case unfolds, it remains to be seen how the court will interpret Gupta’s claims and the role of Lawrence Bishnoi’s ideology in the incident.

Speaking of the incident, two bikers opened fire outside his plush residential society, Galaxy Apartments in Bandra, suburban Mumbai in the wee hours of morning on April 14. While the residents were absolutely rattled by the incident, it did not result in casualties or injuries. The case has been in investigation since then and several arrests were made in the case. The police believed that gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, who has openly threatened to harm Salman Khan and his family in the past, was involved in the case but the recent and sudden turn of events seem to suggest otherwise.

The highly anticipated Housefull 5 is gearing up to be another laughter riot, with Sajid Nadiadwala and Akshay Kumar reuniting for the fifth installment of the comedy franchise. “After Heyy Babyy, the trio of Akshay Kumar, Fardeen Khan, and Sajid Nadiadwala is coming together for Housefull 5,” revealed a source close to the development to the publication. “It’s a fun-filled role for Fardeen and the actor is also excited to work again with Akshay after their soon-to-be-released Khel Khel Mein. There were multiple contenders for the role in question, including Arjun Rampal, and it’s Fardeen Khan who is now ready to make an entry in the world of Housefull,” the source added. Interestingly, Fardeen is also starring in Khel Khel Mein alongside Akshay Kumar.

While the male ensemble is complete, the search for the leading ladies is underway. The makers are eyeing top-tier actresses to complement the star-studded cast. The film is set to undergo a significant transformation, with the comic chaos unfolding on a cruise ship. “It’s a comic thriller, where one episode brings the house down inside a cruise. The idea is to introduce a new flavor of comedy with Housefull 5,” the source informed.

With an ambitious shoot schedule extending from August to November 2024, the makers are aiming for a June 6, 2025, release. Before diving into Housefull 5, Akshay Kumar is expected to wrap up a 20-day schedule for Welcome To The Jungle in Mumbai and Kashmir.

Veteran music composer Ilaiyaraaja claimed compensation from the team behind the blockbuster Malayalam film Manjummel Boys for unauthorized use of his iconic song ‘Kanmani Anbodu’. In May 2024, Ilaiyaraaja sent a legal notice to the producers, accusing them of using his 1991 hit song ‘Kanmani Anbodu’ from the Tamil film Gunaa without his permission.

This song, originally picturized on Kamal Haasan in the famous Guna caves, holds a special place in the hearts of many fans. According to reports, Ilaiyaraaja demanded a hefty compensation of Rs. 2 crore, citing the song’s extensive use in Manjummel Boys at a critical juncture, significantly contributing to the movie’s success. Despite the initial demand, the legal battle concluded with Ilaiyaraaja receiving Rs. 60 lakh in compensation. According to a report in Money Control, the negotiation process was intense, with the producers – Soubin Shahir, Babu Shahir, and Shawn Antony – meeting the composer in person to discuss the matter. The producers reportedly found the compensation demand unreasonable, but an agreement was reached after prolonged discussions.

The song ‘Kanmani Anbodu’ was used extensively especially at a pivotal moment in the film, thereby elevating the scene. The song’s immense popularity after the film’s release and its use in promotions further justified Ilaiyaraaja’s demand for compensation. However, the producers felt the amount was too high and engaged in intense negotiations before settling the matter.

As reported by LiveLaw, Ilaiyaraaja asserted that merely crediting him in the title cards did not equate to obtaining permission, license, or consent for using his musical work. He emphasized that the unauthorized commercial exploitation of his work without payment of royalty or license fee was a legal violation. “Even though the makers credited me in the title cards, it does not substitute for my permission/license/consent for using the musical work,” he stated. He further underscored that his rights as the owner of the musical work are protected under the Copyrights Act 1957.
