Advocate Anjali Awasthi is expected to take over the 8.30pm slot on Star Plus, which was earlier divided between the popular serials Ghum Hain Kisikey Pyaar Meiin and Udne Ki Aasha. While both serials were airing 45-min episodes, now with the latest addition, they are expected to resort to their earlier timings of 30 minutes. Furthermore, Udne Ki Aasha will now be shifted to the 9 pm slot.

The Bollywood fraternity is mourning the loss of Menka Irani, the mother of renowned choreographer-director Farah Khan and filmmaker Sajid Khan. She passed away recently. 

Sharing the news of social media, popular paparazzi handle, Viral Bhayani, wrote, “Life just won’t be the same for Farah Khan and her brother Sajid Khan and everyone around them. Today, their mother had set for heavenly abode, leaving behind a vacuum which just cannot be filled by anyone.”

Having said that, it is worth mentioning here that a couple of weeks back, Farah had written a poignant tribute for her mother. The Himachal Pradesh High Court issued a notice to actress and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Member of Parliament Kangana Ranaut on July 24. The notice pertains to a petition filed by Laik Ram Negi, a resident of Kinnaur, who has challenged Ranaut’s election victory from the Mandi Lok Sabha constituency.

According to Live Law India, Justice Jyotsna Rewal Dua presided over the matter and directed Ranaut to respond to the petition by August 21. This legal action follows Ranaut’s victory in the recent elections, where she secured the Mandi seat by a margin of 74,755 votes, defeating her rival, Congress candidate Vikramaditya Singh. Ranaut received 537,002 votes, while Singh garnered 462,267 votes.

Laik Ram Negi, a former forest department employee, has based his petition on the assertion that his nomination papers were unjustly rejected by the returning officer, the Deputy Commissioner of Mandi. Negi claims that this rejection was a crucial factor that impeded his ability to contest the election effectively.

Negi’s grievance stems from the handling of his nomination process. He submitted his papers on May 14, 2024, including a “no dues certificate” from his previous employer, the forest department. However, the returning officer allegedly required additional “no dues certificates” from the electricity, water, and telephone departments. Negi was given until May 15 to furnish these documents, which he claims he did. Despite this, the returning officer did not accept the certificates and subsequently rejected his nomination.

Negi contends that this rejection was not justifiable and has had a direct impact on the election outcome. He posits that had his nomination been accepted, he stood a strong chance of winning the election. Therefore, he is seeking the court’s intervention to set aside Ranaut’s election victory.

The High Court has also made the returning officer a respondent, acknowledging the pivotal role played by the nomination process in this dispute.

On the evening of July 25, the makers of Vedaa put out a statement that the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) is yet to see the film and give a certificate though they applied for it a month ago. Starring John Abraham and Sharvari, the CBFC’s Examining Committee (EC) viewed the film after it was recommended that a Revising Committee (RC) should see it. The screening for RC hasn’t happened though the EC saw the film way back. With the film’s release less than three weeks away – August 15 – the makers publicly requested the relevant authorities to expedite the process.

Bollywood Hungama exclusively spoke with Vedaa’s director-producer Nikkhil Advani to better understand the issue. He told us, “On June 22, the screening took place and on June 25, I got an email stating that the chairman (Prasoon Joshi) had sent the film to the Revising Committee. But it’s me who has to send the film to the RC. How can the Chairman send the film? If the EC had told me about the cuts, I may have even accepted it.”

He added, “It’s an out-and-out entertaining film but it also deals with a current topic which has been dealt with a lot of sensitivity. But obviously, they have found things objectionable which they have to let me know.”

When asked if an attempt was made from his side to contact Prasoon Joshi, the filmmaker replied, “Yes, of course, we reached out to him and also the other officials. Even John Abraham reached out to them. Mr Joshi responded that he has passed on the relevant instructions to the CBFC to constitute an RC and see the film as soon as possible. But this was one month ago.”

However, the silver lining is that the RC screening is happening in a few days. Nikkhil Advani revealed, “Now, there’s a proposed screening on Monday, July 29, of the RC. Hopefully, they’ll let me know what those cuts and issues are. Then I’ll take action accordingly.” He also said, “The screening was supposed to happen today, Friday, July 26. Due to heavy rains in the city, it was cancelled yesterday as they feared that the members might not be able to attend. So, now the screening will happen on Monday. This means three more days of my promotions going for a toss.”

Nikkhil Advani also opened up, “Since I had an extremely incredible experience during Batla House (2019) and Mrs Chatterjee vs Norway (2023), I am stunned this time.”

We asked him to explain what happened during these two films. Nikkhil said, “We made Batla House which was also a controversial film. The CBFC, at that time, was on our side and they strongly felt that it was a film which definitely needed to be seen. They were with us when the film was dragged to the Court. There were even tricky sequences in Satyameva Jayate (2018) which was an out-and-out massy film (and yet it got passed).”

He explained, “Mrs Chatterjee vs Norway (2023) was a film that India would be extremely proud of considering the incredible role played by Sushma Swaraj ji in the episode. We had changed a few lines that she uttered in Parliament. They pointed that out to us and helped us (get it right).”

He also said, “There were sequences where the character played by Rani Mukerji speaks in a brash language by calling the whites as harami, etc. But that was because her character was semi-educated and belonged to a small town near Kolkata. The RO had an objection to it. We explained to them that the character was not a refined person. The word ‘harami’, in fact, is a no-no as far as the CBFC is concerned. But we made sure that we were not going to use the abusive word in any other film and we had to use it over here. Rani also spoke to Mr Prasoon and so did I to explain our point. They all accepted our view.”

Nikkhil Advani then stated, “So, once we have a conversation, there are things that we are willing to accept in case we may have pushed certain boundaries. But there are also times when the CBFC has seen things in context and has allowed it. But the key word in all this is ‘conversation’.”

Is he looking for a U/A or an adult-only certificate for Vedaa? Nikkhil Advani retorted, “I am looking for a censor certificate right now. Period (laughs).”

He signed off by saying, “But obviously, I am looking for a U/A certificate. You have seen the teaser of the film and it promises a mass, action film. It deals with an issue but one has to see the context in which the film was made. And this is what I am going to tell the RC on Monday.”

The Pali Hill residence of the late Bollywood actor Dilip Kumar has found a new chapter. The sea-facing bungalow, earmarked for redevelopment in 2023, has recently witnessed a significant development with the sale of a triplex apartment for a whopping Rs. 172 crore.

As per several reports, Apco Infratech Private Limited has secured this palatial triplex spread across the 9th, 10th, and 11th floors of the under-construction building. With a carpet area of 9,527 sq ft, the apartment itself is valued at Rs. 155 crore, translating to a staggering Rs. 1.62 lakh per sq ft – one of the highest per sq ft deals ever recorded in the Pali Hill area. The final price of Rs. 172 crore includes a stamp duty of Rs. 9.3 crore and a registration fee of Rs. 30,000.

This redevelopment project, The Legend by Ashar Group, will house a total of 15 luxurious apartments, a mix of 4 and 5 BHK configurations. However, The Legend will be a dedicated 2,000 sq ft museum celebrating the life and achievements of Dilip Kumar.

The collaboration between Dilip Kumar and Ashar Group dates back to 2016 when a development agreement paved the way for this ambitious project. In 2023, the developer announced plans for 15 luxury apartments and a projected completion date of 2027. With the recent sale of the triplex, estimates suggest the entire project could generate a staggering revenue of Rs. 900 crore.

Bollywood powerhouse Ranveer Singh is set to embark on a thrilling new journey as he teams up with acclaimed director Aditya Dhar for a gripping espionage thriller. Backed by Jio Studios, the film has officially commenced production, promising a cinematic spectacle of unprecedented scale.

“Ranveer Singh and Aditya Dhar have found their production partner in Jio Studios, who heard the script and were bowled over by the narration. The studio will be going all out to mount the film on a scale that it deserves as they completely believe in the subject and the ability of Ranveer and Aditya to bring in the audience to the big screen,” a source close to the project revealed to Pinkvilla.

This high-octane drama is inspired by real events from the golden era of Indian intelligence agencies, coinciding with the rise of R&AW. While the film’s official title is yet to be announced, it is being tentatively referred to as Dhurandhar.

The star-studded cast features Ranveer Singh, Akshaye Khanna, Sanjay Dutt, R Madhavan, and Arjun Rampal. Each actor has undergone rigorous look tests to authentically embody the characters of real-life intelligence officers.

“Ranveer is thrilled to be venturing into the world of espionage with Aditya Dhar. Sanjay Dutt portrays the antagonist, while Ranveer Singh, Akshaye Khanna, R Madhavan, and Arjun Rampal will be seen representing the Indian intelligence apparatus,” the source added.

The film’s narrative is set to unfold across multiple international locations, with the first leg of shooting commencing in Thailand, followed by schedules in Canada and Mumbai. The makers are aiming for a grand theatrical release in the last quarter of 2025.

Director Aditya Dhar, known for his critically acclaimed film Uri: The Surgical Strike, is particularly excited about delving into the world of espionage. “He’s deeply fascinated by the world of spies and firmly believes this film will resonate with audiences globally,” the source shared.

With a production budget on a massive scale and a shooting schedule spanning six months, the film promises to be a visual extravaganza filled with high-octane action sequences and intricate plot twists. “After the phenomenal success of Uri, this is the perfect follow-up for director Aditya Dhar. Ranveer is equally pumped to reunite with Dhar on set,” the source concluded.
