Shekhar Suman, who is currently seen in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar, has received positive feedback for his work on the show. While he enjoys the wonderful reception to his new effort, Shekhar recently travelled down memory lane and discussed his experience of working with Madhuri Dixit on their first film.

During an interview with Bollywood Bubble, Shekhar said that he has worked with prominent actresses such as Rekha and Padmini Kolhapure, as well as how he used to ride his bike to pick up Madhuri when they first worked together.

During the interview, Shehkhar Suman described the incident saying, “Utsav had gotten delayed and in between that and Anubhav, one day I got a call where a director wanted to sign me for a film called Maanav Hatya, where I played a journalist. However, he only offered me Rs 5000. I had signed Utsav for Rs 25,000 and was given Rs 10,000 as the signing amount. When he offered me Rs 5,000 for this one, I was a little disappointed. He told me it was a new heroine named Madhuri Dixit. I agreed to do that film and met Madhuri at her house. She was resplendent and looked pretty.”

Shekhar further said that the producer encountered significant budget constraints while working on the film, so he used to pick up Madhuri on a bike. He continued, “Maanav Hatya was the second film for both of us individually, and the producer said they had no money for location and asked me if I could lend my house for the shoot. Later, the producer had no funds to pay for a taxi to pick up Madhuri, so he asked me if I could pick her up. I would pick her up on a bike. There was no budget for makeup either so my wife was asked to do it. Madhuri was such a sweet, naïve, Maharashtrian girl. The film somehow got completed.”

Shekhar also mentioned that he and Madhuri were meant to do Anubhav together. Padmini Kolhapure took her position, though. Talking about the same, the actor said, “My third film Anubhav also had Madhuri cast in it, but two days later, she was replaced by Padmini Kolhapure, who was a much bigger star then. That film became a huge success.”

Shekhar Suman stars as Zulfiqar Ahmed in Heeramandi, a forceful and intellectual man who exudes authority.

Over the last few days, the producers of the Hindi Film Industry have started to make announcements about the release date of their feature films starting from June 2024. Sajid Nadiadwala spearheaded this by locking Valentines Day 2025 weekend for Sanki and Eid 2025 for Sikandar. And now, we hear that Aamir Khan and Rajkumar Santoshi are making special plans for the arrival of Lahore: 1947.

According to our independent sources, Aamir Khan, Rajkumar Santoshi, and Sunny Deol are targeting the Republic Day 2025 weekend for Lahore: 1947. “The shooting of Lahore: 1947 is currently underway and the makers will wrap up the film by June 2024. It’s a film shot in the studio set up with massive sets of the yesteryear era being recreated. There is minimal VFX, as more focus is on real drama and action,” a source told Bollywood Hungama.

Aamir and Rajkumar Santoshi feel that Republic Day weekend is the best time for the arrival of Lahore: 1947. “It’s a patriotic film about a man’s love for India and what better than Republic Day for its arrival. Lahore: 1947 will most likely be Sunny Deol’s next on the big screen after the historic success of Gadar 2. Aamir Khan also has a cameo appearance in the film,” the source told us further.

Lahore: 1947 is touted to be one of the most ambitious films of Rajkumar Santoshi and the maker reunites with Sunny Deol after a long break.

Shah Rukh Khan is on a roll. He had three releases in 2023 and the first two films, Jawan and Pathaan, were all-time blockbusters. The third release, Dunki, was also a decent success and it proved once and for all that the superstar is here to stay. And now, it has come to light that even when it comes to endorsements, he’s also on top.

According to a report in The Economic Times dated May 2, Shah Rukh Khan along with Ajay Devgn top the list of celebrity-endorsed ads aired during the first 37 matches of the on-going Indian Premier League (IPL). The share of their ads was a huge 19% as per the data sourced by the newspaper from TAM Sports. 65% share of the celebrity-endorsed ads came from advertisers like Sporta Technologies, Vishnu Packaging, K P Pan Foods, Playgames 24*7 and Coca-Cola India.

The Economic Times report further said that in last year’s edition of IPL, it was Aamir Khan who dominated the ad volumes for celebrity TVCs. This year, among sports celebrities, Virender Sehwag ranks on top with a 7.5% share of the ad volumes, followed by Hardik Pandya with a 7.4% share. In IPL 2023, the top sports celebrity was Virat Kohli.

TAM Sports data also threw light on the fact that the share of celebrity-endorsed commercials to the overall TV ad volume during IPL 2024 is at 61% while last year, the number stood at 75%. Meanwhile, the share of non-celebrity ads jumped from 25% to 39% this year. Moreover, as per the report, Ecom-Gaming, Pan Masala, Aerated Soft Drink, Face Wash and Paints were the top five categories for celeb ads, taking a huge chunk of 75% of ad volumes.

Speaking of Ajay Devgn, he began the year with the successful supernatural thriller, Shaitaan. It was followed by the critically acclaimed sports film, Maidaan. The talented star will have three more releases this year – Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha on July 5, Singham Again reportedly on Diwali and Raid 2 reportedly on November 15.

Bollywood superstar Salman Khan’s Bandra residence became the scene of a shocking incident on April 14 when two unidentified assailants opened fire outside his home. The Mumbai Police have made significant progress in the case, but a recent development has cast a shadow on the investigation. One of the accused, Anuj Thapan (32), who allegedly supplied the weapons used in the attack, died by suicide while in police custody on April 26. Thapan, along with another accused, Sonu Subhash Chander (37), were arrested in Punjab a week after the incident. The circumstances surrounding Thapan’s suicide are under investigation.

As per a report in NDTV, Thapan, arrested in Punjab days earlier, took his own life in a lock-up toilet despite being guarded by police officers. Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding his death, with former police officer PK Jain highlighting the mandatory procedure of treating such incidents as murder cases and questioning all officers present.

Former Maharashtra senior police officer PK Jain highlighted that all deaths in police custody are treated as murder cases, and a thorough investigation will be conducted by the CID (Criminal Investigation Department). Jain further emphasized that lock-ups should be routinely checked for any objects that could be used for self-harm.

According to a report in PTI, all four accused – Thapan, Chander, the two shooters Vicky Gupta (24) and Sagar Pal (21) – are believed to be linked to jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) identifies Bishnoi’s gang as being involved in serious crimes including kidnapping, murder, extortion, and smuggling of weapons and drugs.

The Mumbai Crime Branch claims to have gathered strong evidence against Lawrence Bishnoi and his brother Anmol Bishnoi, who they have named as the prime suspects in the case. Anmol Bishnoi is reported to have claimed responsibility for the attack, citing a long-standing feud between the Bishnoi gang and Salman Khan stemming from a blackbuck poaching case in 1998.

Following the attack, authorities significantly bolstered Salman Khan’s security detail, elevating it to the Y-plus category, one of the highest levels of protection offered in India. Additionally, Khan was granted permission to carry a firearm and reportedly acquired an armoured vehicle for his safety.

The arrest of the shooters, Vicky Gupta and Sagar Pal, happened shortly after the incident. CCTV footage captured them fleeing the scene on a motorcycle. Further investigation led the police to recover two pistols, magazines, and bullets believed to be the weapons used in the attack from Gujarat’s Tapi River. Both Gupta and Pal were initially remanded in police custody until April 29 to allow for further investigation into the motive behind the attack.

While he is all set to take his biggest film, Sikandar on floors in May, our exclusive sources inform us that Sajid Nadiadwala is silently working on a global film. A source close to the development tells us that Sajid Nadiadwala has signed a mega contract with Rajinikanth to procure the rights of making his biopic.

“Very few know that Sajid Nadiadwala is a big fan of not just Rajinikanth the actor, but also Rajinikanth the person. He believes that Rajinikanth’s story deserves to be seen by the world – from a bus conductor to a superstar. Sajid is personally looking into the script and working towards getting the film to the spectacle,” a source told Bollywood Hungama.

Over the last few months, Sajid has been in constant touch with Rajinikanth and his family to get the authenticity of the story. “The idea is to make a film that stands the test of time. It’s the greatest rags to riches story, and will focus more on Rajinikanth the human,” the source told us further.

The Rajinikanth biopic will go on floors in 2025 and the casting will be done once the team has finalized the script. It’s all a work in progress at the moment.
