T-Series and Wakaoo Films collaborate for a long-term association; kick-off the partnership by signing a 7 film deal

In what is sure to be one of the most dynamic and strategic collaborations in the Hindi film industry, Bhushan Kumar’s T-Series has joined hands with Wakaoo Films (Vipul D Shah, Rajesh Bahl & Ashwin Varde) for an impressive slate of 7 films and counting. T-Series & Wakaoo Films will jointly produce these films that will be marked across varied genres and shall also include big budget tent poles as well as mid and small budget content-rich films.

This giant collaboration brings two major film production houses together with a mega investment and will bring forth films ranging from different genres, production scale, talent, and music.

Out of the extensive line-up of films, one film is already completed and 6 other films will go on floor in the next 12 months. The slate includes films directed by Mudassar Aziz, Shivam Nair, Amit Rai, Ashish R Mohan, Sanjay Puran Singh Chauhan, Satramm Ramani and Gautam Vasudev Menon.

The two companies will make individual announcements for each project in the next few months.

Bhushan Kumar, Chairman and Managing Director, T-Series, says, “I am looking forward to this tie-up with Wakaoo Films. We have some really interesting films with unique storylines, powerful actors and credible directors.” Adding to this, he says, “Between us, the idea is to create content that is strong and credible.”

Vipul D. Shah, Chairman & MD of Optimystix Entertainment says, “Quality has always been our forte. Under the banner of Wakaoo Films, we would like to achieve the same in our film business. At both T-Series and Wakaoo Films, we share the same passion towards film-making. We have some amazing scripts and along with our visionary directors we shall take them to the next level.”

Ashwin Varde of Wakaoo Films adds, “It’s almost like a homecoming since I have worked with Bhushan Kumar and T-Series earlier on my last film, Kabir Singh. We’re hoping to repeat the same magic in times to come. What is really fascinating is the sheer diversity of subjects we have to offer.”

Rajesh Bahl of Wakaoo Films ended by saying that “From a strategic point of view, this is an amazing opportunity for both of us to create significant scale and value by collaborating on long-term basis. Harman Baweja’s Baweja Studios acquires the life rights of India’s first female forensic scientist Dr Rukmani Krishnamurthy for a biopic

Harman Baweja is certainly unstoppable this year! With already multiple projects on the horizon, the creator-producer makes the announcement of another powerful drama. Under his home banner Baweja Studios, he has acquired the life rights of Dr. Rukmani Krishnamurthy for a biopic.

Dr. Rukmani Krishnamurthy, India’s first female forensic scientist, played a pivotal role during the 1993 Bombay Blast as the Head of the Explosives Department at Forensic Science Laboratory. She stood tall among all men in finding the culprit of the ghastly act.

While speaking about the same, Harman Baweja said, “My mission is to tell unheard stories, stories that inspire the younger generation. The story of Dr. Rukmani Krishnamurthy is one such. The audience across the nation deserves to know her journey, her contribution to Forensic Science, and her role during the 1993 Bombay Blast. I am really proud and excited to work on the project.”

Dr. Rukmani Krishnamurthy said, “Almost 30 years have passed since the ’93 Bombay blasts and yet the memories of the investigation is still as fresh as yesterday. Seeing how far the field of forensic investigation has come today, it’s still mind-boggling to think about how we managed to scientifically connect crucial evidence to give a lead to the investigation. After meeting Harman and seeing his vision for my story, I can tell that it will be told the right way and honour those who worked sleepless nights to bring justice.”

Meanwhile, Baweja Studios has a packed calendar with Captain India with Hansal Mehta and Kartik Aaryan, The Great Indian Kitchen remake with Sanya Malhotra, and an untitled with Jackie Shroff and Sikandar Kher. The release date of their ambitious Punjabi film, Honeymoon, starring Gippy Grewal and Jasmin Bhasin, has also been announced – 25th October 2022.

PSY And BTS’ SUGA’s ‘That That’ debuts on Billboard’s Hot 100 at No. 80, Global 200 and Global Excl. U.S. charts

South Korean music legends PSY and BTS’ SUGA’s recent collaborative single ‘That That’ made an impressive debut on various Billboard charts. The title track from soloist PSY’s ninth full-length album PSY 9th made it to Billboard’s Hot 100, Global 200 and Global Excl. U.S. charts.

As Korean tabloid Soompi reports, ‘That That’ which features and is produced by BTS’ SUGA, made its debut this week on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart at No. 80, as well as at No. 2 and No. 5 on Billboard’s Global Excl. U.S. and Global 200 charts! The two latter entries mark the highest peaks on these charts for any BTS member’s solo work, as well as PSY’s first-ever entries.

On the Global 200 chart, “That That” debuted at No. 5 with 67.7 million streams and 29,600 units sold globally during its first week of release. This marks PSY’s first entry on this chart and Suga’s second, following his No. 37 peak in December with “Girl of My Dreams,” his collab with Juice WRLD. While BTS continues to hold the record for most Global 200 No. 1’s with six titles, “That That” is now the highest-charting solo project from a BTS member and the first top 10 entry.

Moreover, on the Global Excl. U.S. chart, the smash hit ranked No. 2, with 61.5 million streams and 18,800 units sold outside of the United States, which marks the first and second entry on this chart for PSY and SUGA respectively.

Jayeshbhai Jordaar will be released without any removal/cuts on May 13

Ranveer Singh-starrer Jayeshbhai Jordaar’s trailer landed the film in legal trouble. Ranveer Singh’s Jayeshbhai Jordaar will have a theatrical release on May 13, 2022. According to a Live Law report, an NGO called Youth Against Crime has moved the Delhi High Court over the depiction of a prenatal sex-determination scene in the film’s trailer.

The Hon’ble Delhi High Court today disposed of a Public Interest litigation that sought deletion of a scene from the upcoming film Jayeshbhai Jordaar. The petition was disposed of off without allowing the Petitioner’s prayer for the deletion of the said scene, in terms of Yash Raj Films’ statement to insert an appropriate disclaimer at the relevant portions of the scene that was the subject matter of the trailer and the Petition. Accordingly, the Film, Jayeshbhai Jordaar will be released without any removal/cuts on the 13th of May, as scheduled.

A Public Interest Litigation (PIL) was filed before the Hon’ble Delhi High Court in connection with the upcoming film – Jayeshbhai Jordaar, which is scheduled to release on May 13, 2022.

The theme of the movie is to sensitize the viewers toward an important social message to stop female foeticide. In communicating the message, it was pivotal to show the social evil that is sought to be addressed. One of the scenes in the film, which shows the conduct of ultrasound upon the protagonist’s wife, was made the subject matter of the PIL. While the petitioner categorically admitted to the positive cause of ‘Save Girl Child’ being promoted in the film, it was however averred that such a scene may mislead the masses into thinking that pre-natal determination of sex is permissible.

As the film had already been approved by the Censor Board with the insertion of a disclaimer, which was inserted at the beginning of the film, the Hon’ble Court was hesitant to agree to the Petitioner’s prayer to remove/excise the scene altogether. As Respondent No. 4 – Yash Raj Films agreed, without prejudice to its rights and contentions, to insert the disclaimer appearing at the beginning of the film (“Pre-natal sex determination test is a punishable offense”), in the relevant scene/s as well, as the Hon’ble Delhi High Court disposed of the PIL by recording the said statement.

Accordingly, the Film, Jayeshbhai Jordaar, will be released without any removal/cuts on the 13th of May, as scheduled. Mr. Jayant Mehta, Senior Advocate appeared on behalf of Yash Raj Films. Mahesh Babu reveals why they roped in Salman Khan and Prithviraj to launch the Hindi and Malayalam trailer of Adivi Sesh’s Major

On Monday, May 9, the trailer of the much-anticipated film Major was unveiled. The film headlined by actor Adivi Sesh traces the inspirational journey of Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan and his bravery and sacrifice in the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks. The film directed by Sashi Kiran Tikka will be released in three languages – Hindi, Telugu, and Malayalam. Mahesh Babu, who is the producer of the film, was present at the trailer launch event on Monday.

While the Telugu trailer was launched by the cast and Mahesh Babu, the Hindi and Malayalam trailer was shared by Salman Khan and Prithviraj Sukumaran respectively. Speaking about getting Salman Khan and Prithviraj on board, Mahesh Babu said, “It feels great to see them launch the trailer. I have known Salman sir for a while now. Even my wife, Namrata knows him well. Saiee too played an instrumental role to get him to tweet our trailer. It was Sesh’s idea to get superstars from different industries on board to launch our trailer. They are huge superstars and them launching also results in us getting their fans excited.”

Produced by Sony Pictures International Productions in association with Mahesh Babu’s GMB Entertainment and A+S Movies, Major is directed by Sashi Kiran Tikka, and stars Adivi Sesh, Sobhita Dhulipala, Saiee Manjrekar, Prakash Raj, Revathi, and Murali Sharma and will be released in Hindi, Telugu, and Malayalam on June 3, 2022.
