Prakash Jha speaks about Bollywood actors signing up for gutkha ads; asks, “Why will they work in my films when they get Rs. 50 crores for doing one gutkha ad”

Aashram filmmaker Prakash Jha who is known for some power packed films like Gangaajal and Rajneeti, recently became quite candid while discussing about the current scenario in Bollywood. With big starrers like Raksha Bandhan and Laal Singh Chaddha leading to a box office debacle, many of the filmmakers are forced to rethink about their movie content. On the other hand, Prakash Jha has now earned recognition in the OTT category with the good response he has been receiving for the Bobby Deol starrer Aashram 3. The filmmaker recently spoke about how stars are often happy by earning money through endorsements and gutkha ads.

Prakash Jha speaks about Bollywood actors signing up for gutkha ads; asks, “Why will they work in my films when they get Rs. 50 crores for doing one gutkha ad”

Prakash Jha is known to speak his heart out and in his recent interview with Etimes, the filmmaker was quite unabashed when he expressed his views on stardom and Bollywood. He said, “There are 5-6 actors. Look at the condition of these actors. Why will they work in my films when they get Rs. 50 crores for doing one gutkha advertisement? The actors are selling gutkha. Can you imagine? What are these top, legendary actors doing?”

He further also shared, “Actors don’t have time. An actor who had five flops, is shooting for 12 ad films. He’s getting 10 crores for each of them. There are people, corporates or whoever it is they are ready to buy him out. He is happy. I think people who are responsible in the industry should sit together and think.”

He went on to add, “People used to make films whether good or bad, but with a lot of passion. They would fight for their films. But all of that is gone now. Now they want to make projects. They have corporate funding that they want to utilize. Unless and until a star doesn’t sign their films their work won’t move ahead. Even if the star signs with them they don’t have original subjects so they get remake rights. This is what has been happening for the past few years.”

Mumbai’s Gaiety-Galaxy theatre is known for giving a true blue massy experience to the moviegoers. Today, the experience got better by many notches as superstar Hrithik Roshan made his presence felt at the Galaxy theatre to launch the song ‘Alcoholia’ from his upcoming film, Vikram Vedha. The stall was filled with his fans and it was no surprise that they went crazy seeing their superstar live and seeing foot-tapping song on the big screen.

'Alcoholia' song launch: "Kisi bhi actor ke saath kaam kar lo, lekin Hrithik Roshan ke saath kaam karoge toh award zaroor milta hai" - Ganesh Hegde

Besides Hrithik Roshan, Vikram Vedha’s actors Radhika Apte, Rohit Saraf and Yogita Bihani, director duo Pushkar-Gayatri, choreographer Ganesh Hegde and producers Shibasish Sarkar and S Sashikanth were also present. Ganesh Hegde was asked to comment on choreographing Hrithik. He said, “Ek cheez bahut clear hai. Aap kisi bhi actor ke saath kaam kar lo lekin jab Hrithik Roshan ke saath kaam karoge ho toh award zaroor milta hai!”

Hrithik Roshan stated, when asked about his experience, “If you are working with Ganesh Hegde, then nothing is easy.”

He continued, “It was tough as I was not getting the steps right and we had to a break. And this perfectionist over here (points at Ganesh) would not leave me. At one or two places, I told him, ‘It’s done. We have got it’. But for him, it was not okay. So, I had to keep on doing it again and again. Yaad hai ki nahin? Marwaya mujhe isne!”

Ganesh Hegde then chipped in, “When Hrithik offered me this song and later when I met Pushkar-Gayatri, I realized that they are hell bent on creating a magical song. I have been working with Hrithik for a long time (for his stage performances). We had done only one song before, ‘Its Magic’. Hence, I had to create magic again (with ‘Alcoholia’)!”

‘Alcoholia’ song launch: “Doctors had told me before Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai that I can’t do action and dance. It’s a MIRACLE that in my 25th film, I’m STILL doing action and dance” – Hrithik Roshan

After the blockbuster success of his last film War (2019), Hrithik Roshan has entered into a different league of supertardom. Therefore, the excitement is tremendous for Vikram Vedha, his 25th film, which releases on September 30. The teaser and trailer have received a fantastic response. The team of the film held fan events in different cities for the promo release, which got a great response. They continued this trend with the launch of the first song of the film, ‘Alcoholia’. This time, the song launch took place in Mumbai’s iconic single-screen theatre complex, Gaiety-Galaxy. What added to the madness was that Hrithik Roshan himself arrived at the venue and his fans obviously couldn’t control their excitement.

'Alcoholia' song launch: "Doctors had told me before Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai that I can't do action and dance. It's a MIRACLE that in my 25th film, I'm STILL doing action and dance" - Hrithik Roshan

At this event, Hrithik Roshan was asked about the idea of launching the song in the single-screen theatre. To which he said, “Gaiety is very special. 22 years ago, Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai (2000) was released. I had come here for the first day first show to see (the audience reaction of) the first ever film of mine. When the film got over and the lights were switched on, the viewers recognized me. Uss din maine pehli baar mehsoos kiya ki audience ka pyaar aur kya hota hai.”

Hrithik Roshan continued, “I remember one more episode. Before Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai had been released, the doctors had told me that my health is not that good and so I won’t be able to do action and dance in movies. I took it up as a challenge. I took care of my health and fitness. It’s nothing short of a miracle that in my 25th film, I am still doing action and I am still dancing. And I am still able to say my dialogues. I think the 21-year-old me will be very, very proud of the 48-year-old me!”

As expected, the fans were touched by his speech. Hrithik told them, “Thank you. This wouldn’t have been possible without your support and love.”

He also credited the Vikram Vedha team, “Nothing is possible without a team. I am blessed to be working with directors (Pushkar-Gayatri), (choreographer) Ganesh Hegde and (music director duo) Vishal-Sheykhar. This song would not be what it is if it was not for the team. I got a chance to work with some of the best actors (pointing at Radhika Apte, Rohit Saraf and Yogita Bihani). I feel I am very blessed. So thanks to all of you for giving me this opportunity.”

Also present at the event were choreographer Ganesh Hegde and producers Shibasish Sarkar and S Sashikanth.

BREAKING: Promotional campaign of Ajay Devgn-starrer Drishyam 2 to commence on October 2 aka the ‘Drishyam Day’

On February 17, 2022, it was announced that Drishyam 2 has gone on floors and that Abhishek Pathak will be directing it. An on-the-set still featuring Ajay Devgn and Shriya Saran was also released by the makers and it added to the excitement of the viewers as the first part had emerged as a critical and commercial success. With the release of the week just two months away, Bollywood Hungama has found out about an interesting development with regard to this film.

BREAKING Promotional campaign of Ajay Devgn-starrer Drishyam 2 to commence on October 2 aka the ‘Drishyam Day’

A source told Bollywood Hungama, “Director Abhishek Pathak and the producers of Drishyam 2 have decided that they’ll kick start the promotional campaign of the film from October 2. The date held a special significance in the first part due to which they felt that starting their campaign on this date is apt. Moreover, things fell into place for them as Drishyam 2 is scheduled to be released on November 18, that is, 45 days after October 2. Hence, everyone in the team unanimously agreed to begin the film’s promotional journey on the national holiday.”

An industry expert said, “This is a smart move. Viewers would lap it up as October 2 has now become synonymous with Drishyam. Now, on October 2, people don’t just forward messages about the birth anniversaries of Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri, but also remind their friends and loved ones that this was the day when Vijay Salgaonkar (Ajay Devgn’s character in Drishyam) attended satsang and had pav bhaji with his family! As a result, the promotional campaign will get a fabulous reception when it’ll commence on October 2.”

Drishyam is the remake of the 2013 Malayalam film of the same name. Besides Ajay Devgn and Shriya Saran, it also starred Tabu, Ishita Dutta and Rajat Kapoor and was directed by the late Nishikant Kamat. It was the story of a good-natured semi-literate man who drew an elaborate and flawless plan when his daughter and wife accidentally killed a criminal, who also happened to be the son of a top police officer. As part of his plan, he created a full-proof alibi of being away at the satsang and making merry in Goa when the criminal son went missing.

Drishyam 2 is also based on the sequel of the same film, which was released directly on Amazon Prime in 2021. This time, Akshaye Khanna has also joined the star cast of the remake. Drishyam 2 is produced by Bhushan Kumar, Kumar Mangat Pathak, Krishan Kumar and Abhishek Pathak.

Television show Sirf Tum, which was launched in November last year, and moved to the OTT platform of the channel earlier this month, is all set to wind up. The shoot of the show, which features Eisha Singh and Vivian Dsena in lead roles, will wrap up in a week’s time and the last episode will be streamed on September 16. Vivian Dsena starrer television show Sirf Tum goes off air

Speaking about Sirf Tum going off air, Vivian confirmed, “Yes, the show is winding up on September 16. Everything in life must come to an end and according to my own life experiences, some endings are for the better. Over the years, I have understood that not everything happens the way we want or expect. Life is a roller-coaster ride, full of adventures and experiences and the best of experiences are the ones that teach you good lessons for the future.”

The actor also revealed that he felt a special connection with his character Ranveer in Sirf Tum. He added, “Everything aside, Ranveer will always be special to me. I have put my heart into it. The character is multi-shaded and it feels like some part of him was left undiscovered. People may not know but I started manifesting this character and preparing for it more than a year before the inception of the show. The makers got inspired by me while envisaging this character and also, the fact that both Ranveer and I are often misunderstood for our actions. But if you look deeper, you will see our reasons and targets are right at the end.”

Sirf Tum revolves around Ranveer and Suhaani played by Eisha Singh as fate constantly plays a game of uniting and separating them. The show used to air on Colors channel and it has now shifted to its OTT channel, Voot.
