Squid Game star Lee Jung Jae joins Star Wars series The Acolyte set at Disney+

Squid Game star Lee Jung Jae lands his first major American studio joining Disney+ Star Wars series The Acolyte. The South Korean actor will star alongside Amandla Stenberg and Jodie Turner-Smith.

According to Deadline, The Acolyte is a mystery-thriller that will take viewers into a galaxy of shadowy secrets and emerging Dark Side powers in the final days of the High Republic era, Disney+ said in announcing the project in December 2020. In the real universe of Star Wars, “acolyte” can refer to individuals with Force abilities who learn from a more experienced Sith Lord.

Details on the show are being kept under wraps. Leslye Headland is showrunning, writing and directing. Lee’s addition to The Acolyte series marks Lee Jung Jae’s first major role post Squid Game, the hit Netflix drama that made him a global star. Next Monday, Lee along with Squid Game co-star Jung Ho Yeon will be attending the Emmys as presenters next week.

As per the report, after signing with CAA in February, Lee Jung Jae first wanted to put the finishing touches on his directorial debut Hunt, which he also stars in, before its Cannes Film Festival premiere. That film recently was acquired by Magnolia Pictures.

The Morning Show producers lose approx Rs. 350 crore Covid-19 insurance coverage lawsuit

Hollywood actress Jennifer Aniston’s news drama The Morning Show producers have lost a $44 million (approx Rs. 350 cr) lawsuit against the Apple TV+ show’s insurance company for losses stemming from shooting delays caused by Covid-19.

According to The Wrap publication, the producers have lost a $44 million lawsuit against the Apple TV+ show’s insurance company, which they alleged refused to pay for coverage of losses due to Season 2’s Covid-related production delays.

A judge dismissed the suit with prejudice on Thursday, meaning that the case can’t be refiled. “Because plaintiff has failed to allege any physical loss or damage to property, no benefits were due under the Policy’s Imminent Peril and Ingress and Egress provisions,” U.S. District Judge Fernando M. Olguin wrote, adding, “In sum, the court concludes that under the Policy’s plain terms, defendant was justified in denying benefits.”

According to the report, The Morning Show executive producer Michael Ellenberg filed the lawsuit against the Apple drama’s insurance company, Chubb National Insurance, on behalf of his banner Media Res. Always Smiling Productions, Ellenberg and Media Res’ LLC, claimed in the suit that it had secured $125 million in cast coverage from Chubb, plus more for imminent peril to their shooting location.

The company said Chubb refused to pay the coverage it owes the production company — which, according to the lawsuit, is $44 million — over the production delays it faced in Season 2 due to the pandemic. Per the suit, Chubb agreed to pay $1 million in losses per the company’s Civil Authority or Military provision. But Chubb said other parts of the Covid-related delay were not covered, as they didn’t fall under “death, injury, sickness, kidnap, or compulsion by physical force or threat of physical force.”

Shweta Tiwari and Manav Gohil roped in for Zee TV’s upcoming show Main Hoon Aparajita

After coming together for shows like Fear Files, Aapke Aa Jane Se, and Hamariwali Good News, Zee TV and Bodhi Tree Productions have once again joined hands for yet another fiction offering, Main Hoon Aparajita featuring the stellar cast of Shweta Tiwari and Manav Gohil. The show is expected to feature the heartwarming journey of Aparajita, a doting mother of three, who is preparing them for the roller coaster ride called life.

Shweta Tiwari and Manav Gohil roped in for Zee TV’s upcoming show Main Hoon Aparajita

Set against the backdrop of Noida, Uttar Pradesh, Aparajita finds herself in a complicated marital relationship with her former husband Akshay. What’s more, is that she often finds herself under the societal scanner regularly. Nevertheless, she rises above it all and leads with a strong example for her daughters on how not just to survive but to thrive with courage, self-respect, and resilience. ‘Jeene ka sahi saleeka sikha rahi hai, Ek maa 3 betiyaan paal rahi hai’, says the tagline of the show.

The show will feature Shweta Tiwari as Aparajita, who is a wise, gumptious, hard-working, and kind-hearted woman with sharp wit and a sense of humour. Her life revolves around her daughters – Chhavi, Disha, and Aasha as well as her mother-in-law. What’s more, is that she dreams to make her girls so independent that they don’t have to depend on anyone for the rest of their lives.

On the other hand, Manav Gohil will be seen playing the role of Akshay, who is a dominating man, who wants it all in his life. Coming from a wealthy family, he has a flourishing business and though he has very few words to express himself, he always displays solid emotions and conveys his thoughts in precise hard-hitting words.

However, he lets his wife Aparajita down by betraying her trust. It will be intriguing to see how she rises from this and helps her daughters strive in their life, even while society tries to pull them down.

Interestingly, Shweta Tiwari and Manav Gohil will reunite on the small screen after 15 years after having worked for Zee TV itself for the channel’s supernatural fantasy show, Naaginn in 2007. Also, Shweta is playing a lead role on the channel for the first time whereas Manav Gohil will be returning to the channel after 10 years.

Talking about her character, Shweta said, “I am very excited to play the character of Aparajita as she is a happy-go-lucky woman who always knows her way to deal with tough situations in life. The show and its narrative are also thought-provoking and I am sure each and every person will be able to resonate with my character and her struggle. It is truly a raw and powerful part, which I am truly looking forward to. In fact, my look is also very different, and the best part is that this is my first lead character on Zee TV, which makes it an even more special association. I will also be reuniting with Manav after nearly 20 years and I still remember, that we were very young when we both started our journey on television. Now, after 15 years, we are coming back together for Main Hoon Aparajita. He is an amazing professional, and I am sure we will have a gala time shooting with each other. I just hope I can do justice to my character and my fans continue to shower me with their love and support.”

Manav Gohil also added, “Coming back to Zee TV for Main Hoon Aparajita is like a homecoming for me. I have always been a part of the ‘Zee Kutumb’ and it feels truly amazing to be a part of this show. In fact, the best part is that my character has several layers, which will unfold throughout the show. It is quite different from any character I’ve played till now, and I feel the intensity of this character requires me to portray an array of emotions, which has been equally interesting and challenging for me. I am equally thrilled about reuniting with Shweta Tiwari after 15 years. I wish I can entertain the audience through my character and I hope they support me in this new endeavor.”

Main Hoon Aparajita will premiere on September 27 and will air from Monday to Saturday at 7:30 pm on Zee TV.
