Ram Gopal Varma talks about Brahmastra promotions in South; says, “Telugu is the new Hindi”

A few months ago, Ranbir Kapoor announced his association with SS Rajamouli for the promotions of his forthcoming fantasy drama Brahmastra. The actor and the Baahubali filmmaker have been doing city tours down South as a part of the promotional campaign. Recently an elaborate event was held in Hyderabad where RRR actor Junior NTR was invited as the Chief Guest to speak. Although the said event didn’t pan out the way it was planned, all of them spoke about the film, including Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt who gave a glimpse of their Telugu skills.

Ram Gopal Varma, who is known for his controversial social media posts, took to Twitter to share a new tweet, where he said, “Going by @ssrajamouli and @tarak9999 at the #Bramhastra event , TELUGU is the new HINDI.” Followed by his tweet, many fans reacted to the way the tables have turned. The concept of Pan India films which kicked off with Baahubali became bigger with the success of films like KGF, Pushpa, and RRR.

Speaking about the same, a fan commented on this tweet saying, “Just imagine how times have changed now just to promote Hindi films the actors, producers, and directors have started asking help of Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam and Kannada Industry legends to promote their films. I have never seen any south movies being promoted by Hindi actors.” Another fan dropped a comment adding, “Before Baahubali 2 kgf nobody from hindi industry cared ABT south indian film industries but now suddenly they are showing artificial love and affection. Except very few stars majority of the bwood PPL don’t even have any relation with us.”

On the other hand, stars from the entertainment industry have expressed their happiness about how films are now becoming unanimously one instead of being divided as Hindi and Telugu cinema. Brahmastra, directed by Ayan Mukerji, is a pan-India film too which will release in Tamil and Telugu languages too.

Speaking about the Hyderabad event, although the event faced some mishaps like a change of venue etc., the event turned out to be an interesting one where we got to see the stars speak about Brahmastra. While Junior NTR spoke to the audience in Telugu where he also apologized for the mishaps, Ranbir Kapoor too spoke a few lines in that language. His pregnant wife Alia Bhatt, who will be playing his leading lady for the first time in this film, sang their popular romantic ballad from the film, ‘Kesariya’ in Telugu for the audience.

Coming to the film, Brahmastra, produced by Dharma Productions, has been in the making for the past seven years. Also starring Amitabh Bachchan, Nagarjuna, and Mouni Roy in pivotal roles, the film is slated to release on September 9.

It’s been years since ‘Kala Chashma’ from Baar Baar Dekho was released and we clearly remember how big of a hit the song turned out to be. Not a single day since then has passed when the song has stopped being a party favorite. It’s that song that always excites people and makes them groove at any hour of the day and at any party at night. So, it wouldn’t be surprising to see Bollywood and Hollywood’s biggest stars dancing on ‘Kala Chashma’ as if there is no tomorrow! While the song was recreated for Siddharth Malhotra and Katrina Kaif’s film by Baadshah and Neha Kakkar, the original singer Amar Arshi says he has not made any monetary gains via the song’s virality.

'Kala Chashma' original singer Amar Arshi on recent virality of the song: 'I haven’t made any monetary gains from it'

Speaking to Mint, Arshi said, “My son had been telling me it was all over the internet but I didn’t pay heed until two weeks ago when I started getting calls from some friends in the US, England, and Canada.”

He added, “I don’t think most of these people making dance videos to this song know that I sang it. For all the raula (buzz) this song has generated in recent weeks, I haven’t made any monetary gains from it. I can’t understand contracts written in English. I knew little about royalty as a concept back then. Further, I didn’t think the song will become this big.”

Recently, American singer Demi Lovato & the host of The Tonight Show, Jimmy Fallon were seen dancing to ‘Kala Chashma’. It all started with the Quick Style dance group performing the song at a friend’s sangeet which went viral on the internet.

Black Panther star Chadwick Boseman wins Emmy Award posthumously for voice-over role in Marvel’s animated series What If…?

Black Panther star Chadwick Boseman posthumously won this year’s Emmy for Outstanding Character Voice-Over performance for his work on Disney+ and Marvel Studios’ animated series What If…?, marking his first Emmy nomination and win.

Black Panther star Chadwick Boseman wins Emmy Award posthumously for voice-over role in Marvel's animated series What If...?

As reported by Variety, the Television Academy gave one last honor to the late actor’s greatness by bestowing him with an Emmy award. The actor, who died of colon cancer in August 2020 at 43, made an indelible mark on the Marvel Cinematic Universe delivering stunning performances as T’Challa in Captain America: Civil War and Black Panther as well as Avengers: End Game.

His voice work as Star-Lord T’Challa in the animated series, which aired on Disney+ almost a year after his passing, would be one of his last projects. The animated series examines what would happen if pivotal events throughout the MCU timeline were changed, sending the universe and viewers into a variety of alternate futures.

Chadwick’s wife, Simone Ledward Boseman, accepted the award on her late husband’s behalf. Taking the stage at Los Angeles’ Microsoft Theater, Simone spoke to the crowd about how her late husband recorded the role amid his private health battle. “When I learned that Chad was nominated for this award, I started thinking about everything that was going on when he was recording — everything that was going on in the world and in our world and just being in such awe of his commitment and his dedication,” she said, per The Hollywood Reporter.

“And what a beautifully aligned moment it really is that one of the last things he would work on would not only be revisiting a character that was so important to him and his career and to the world, but also that it be an exploration of something new, diving into a new potential future — particularly with everything he spoke about purpose and finding the reason that you are here on the planet on this very time,” Simone continued.

“You can’t understand your purpose unless you’re willing to ask, ‘What if,’ unless you’re willing to say, ‘What if the universe is conspiring in my favor, what if it’s me?’ Thank you so much for the honor — Chad would be so honored, and I’m honored on his behalf.” Prior to his Emmy win, Boseman received posthumous nominations and wins for two of his final live action roles in Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom and Da 5 Bloods.

Chadwick Boseman previously portrayed the canon version of King T’Challa in 2018’s Black Panther , which even won three Oscars. A sequel, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, is set to hit theaters this November, with much of the original cast and director/co-writer Ryan Coogler returning.
