The first blockbuster of 2024, Chhaava, is having an unstoppable run at the box office. The film had a huge opening and thanks to a great word of mouth, it started collecting more and more in areas outside Maharashtra. Last week, the makers of Chhaava, Maddock Films, announced that the Telugu version is ready and it’ll be released on March 7. However, those living outside India will have to wait a little more to catch the Telugu version of the Vicky Kaushal-starrer.

Bollywood Hungama has learned that Chhaava in Telugu will be out this week in India with the majority of its shows concentrated in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. The Telugu version will also have a release Overseas but it’ll happen only on March 14. The film has surprised one and all with its business in foreign territories. As a result, it remains to be seen if the Telugu dubbed version also manages to strike a chord with the Indian diaspora in foreign lands.

In India, Chhaava will be distributed by GA2 Pictures, the prestigious distribution arm of Geetha Arts, a powerhouse in South Indian cinema. As per the official statement, “With a legacy of distributing over 300 blockbuster Telugu, Hindi, and English films, they are the perfect partner to ensure Chhaava reaches every corner of the Telugu-speaking audience.”

Chhaava stars Vicky Kaushal as Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, Rashmika Mandanna as Yesubai Bhonsale, Akshaye Khanna as Aurangzeb, Diana Penty as Zinat-un-Nissa Begum, Ashutosh Rana as Hambirrao Mohite, and Divya Dutta as Soyarabai. It is directed by Laxman Utekar and produced by Dinesh Vijan’s Maddock Films.

The trailer of Chhaava’s Telugu version was unveiled today, that is, March 3. As of Sunday, March 2, it has collected Rs. 471.56 crores in India. The Overseas collections stand at Rs. 80.60 crores gross. These numbers are expected to increase considerably if the Telugu version also manages to click.

Allu Arjun, who is riding high on the success of Pushpa 2, has been focusing on his other projects in the pipeline. Meanwhile, it seems that the pan-India superstar is expected to have bagged another major film with none other than Jawan filmmaker Atlee. While certain reports have claimed that the filmmaker was planning on joining hands with Bollywood superstar Salman Khan, it seems that there has been a change in the cast.

According to Peeping Moon reports, it is being said that Allu Arjun has replaced Salman Khan film after Atlee faced a few hurdles. The report has asserted that the Telugu superstar has given a nod to the film, but the formalities are being worked out. “Although the paperwork is still pending, the Pushpa 2 star has principally greenlighted the project and will most likely commence working on it as his immediate next. Shooting timelines and other logistical aspects are being worked out, but Atlee is looking to kick off pre-production by April-May,” the source was quoted saying.

Sun Pictures is expected to fund the project that is said to be a big budget two hero film. Along with Allu Arjun, the rest of the actors including the leading ladies are yet to be finalized. While reports suggest that Janhvi Kapoor is one of the frontrunners for the film, there has been no official confirmation. Reacting to the news about this major change in cast where Allu Arjun reportedly replaced Salman Khan, Atlee’s spokesperson said, “Honestly I have no clue… its everywhere”.

Meanwhile, Atlee recently produced the action extravaganza in Bollywood, titled Baby John starring Varun Dhawan in the lead. However, the filmmaker has maintained silence regarding his upcoming projects. On the other hand, Allu Arjun too is expected to have a few untitled projects in the pipeline.

DNEG, a world-leading visual effects (VFX), animation, and creative technologies company for the creation of film, TV, and immersive content, was honoured with the Visual Effects Oscar for its work on Dune: Part Two at the 97th Academy Awards, which took place last night in Los Angeles. DNEG VFX Supervisors Stephen James and Rhys Salcombe accepted the prestigious award alongside Production VFX Supervisor Paul Lambert and Special Effects Supervisor Gerd Nefzer.

The Academy Awards win is DNEG’s eighth Oscar win since 2011. Prior to tonight’s win, DNEG has also been honoured with the Visual Effects Oscar for its work on Dune: Part One (2022), Tenet (2021), First Man (2019), Blade Runner 2049 (2018), Ex Machina (2016), Interstellar (2015) and Inception (2011).

The Oscar win follows DNEG’s success at the 2025 EE BAFTA Film Awards, where its work on Dune: Part Two was honoured with the award for Special Visual Effects.

DNEG’s VFX work on Dune: Part Two was also honoured with four awards across multiple categories at the 23rd Annual Visual Effects Society Awards last month. Other recognition includes this year’s Critics Choice Award for Best Visual Effects, as well as awards for Best Visual Effects and Best Film Visual/Special Effects at the Hollywood Creative Alliance Astra Awards and the Saturn Awards respectively. The studio’s work was also honoured in the Visual Effects category at this year’s American Cinematheque ‘Tribute to the Crafts’.

March is here and Salman Khan fans are an excited lot as the much-awaited film Sikandar will be out this month. The announcement video was unveiled a day after Salman Khan’s birthday, in December 2024, and it was unanimously loved. On February 27, the makers dropped the teaser which gave a brief idea about the film and its world. The teaser simply mentions that the film will be out on Eid 2025, without giving information about the exact date. It has led to speculations whether Sikandar would release on Friday, March 28 or a couple of days later. This is because Ramzan Eid is expected to fall on Monday, March 31.

Bollywood Hungama has learned that Sikandar is expected to arrive in cinemas on Sunday, March 30. A source told us, “Releasing a film in the pre-Eid period, on March 28, will not be a wise decision as a section of the audience will keep away from cinemas. Hence, March 30 works best as it’s a Sunday. The collections in Maharashtra will see a boost as Gudi Padwa falls on the same day. The next day, Monday, it will be the Eid holiday and the celebrations will continue until a few more days in certain centres, leading to higher footfalls. This will be followed by the next weekend where collections will again rise.”

Interestingly, Salman Khan’s last film Tiger 3 (2023) also went for an unconventional Sunday release. It arrived in theatres on Sunday, November 12, 2023, on the day of Diwali. It had the advantage of the post-Diwali holiday effect throughout the week.

The source, however, maintained, “The final call on the release date is yet to be taken. Once it’s done, the makers will announce it in the forthcoming assets of Sikandar.”

Meanwhile, many in the industry are confident that Sikandar will arrive on March 30. The popular ticketing website in Germany, Mykinoplex, has begun selling tickets for Sikandar from March 30 onwards.

Besides Salman Khan, Sikandar also stars Rashmika Mandanna. It is produced by Sajid Nadiadwala and directed by A R Murugadoss.
