Currently, Dinesh Vijan’s Maddock Films is one of the biggest producers in the Hindi film industry. Their last film Chhaava starring Vicky Kaushal as Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj is a huge money spinner, at the end of week 1 collected Rs. 225.28 cr. and its lifetime box-office collection is expected to be around Rs. 500 cr. Maddock was also the producer of Akshay Kumar’s Skyforce along with Jio Studios. The movie collected Rs. 131.20 cr. at the box-office.

The studio known for the horror-comedy genre has also announced 8 theatricals in the same genre from 2025 to 2028. The films announced are Thama (2025), Shakti Shalini (2025), Bhediya 2 (2026), Chamunda (2026), Stree 3 (2027), Maha Munjya (2027), Pehla Mahayudh (2028), and Doosara Mahayudh (2028).

At one point the producers did commission various projects, some of those are yet to find a confirmed release date. These are films that were announced two to three years ago and some even completed around two years ago. But our sources at Maddock Films confirm that these films are on track.

Pooja Meri Jaan starring Huma Qureshi and Mrunal Thakur directed by Navjot Gulati. The film also stars Vikram Singh Chauhan and Vijay Raaz. This is produced by Amar Kaushik and Dinesh Vijan. This film wrapped on 26, July 2022 and that announcement is still on Maddock’s YouTube Page. The source at Maddock Films confirmed this was always an OTT film and it will release on OTT.

Maddock also announced their collab with Vaani Kapoor, Sarvagunn Sampanna, a woman-centric film where she plays the role of a porn star and her look-alike. Vaani is opposite Ishwaq Singh in this film directed by Shonali Ratan. It’s a social comedy set in the 90s. This too was announced two years ago. In July 2023 Vaani confirmed this and said, “Two back-to-back acting pieces that I’m headlining – Sarvagunn Sampanna and Mandala Murders. My attempt in films has been to always showcase diversity in performances first. These two projects give me the space to experiment with two very different interesting genres.” Our source at Maddock confirmed, “This too is an OTT film and will release on OTT.” The date for this is not announced.

John Abraham’s outing with Maddock Films is Tehran, a film inspired by true events, which stars John Abraham opposite Manushi Chillar. It’s directed by Arun Gopalan and written by Ritesh Shah and Ashish Verma. The shooting begins announcement video was posted on Maddock’s YouTube page on July 11, 2022. In a recent interview with THR India, John did mention he is doing Tehran and it’s the geo-politics genre that’s attracts him. Our source at Maddock said, “Tehran is a theatrical for sure.” Date for this one too is not confirmed as yet.

In 2021, Sunny Kaushal and Radhika Madan starred in Shiddat. Post that Shiddat 2 was announced and shot. Shiddat 2 stars Sunny Kaushal opposite Wamiqa Gabbi. It’s directed by Karan Sharma and written by Sara Bodinar. The source added, “Shiddat 2 will be a theatrical as planned.” Shiddat 2 does not have a release date as yet.

Maddock’s next release will be Bhool Chuk Maaf starring Rajkummar Rao and Wamika Gabbi, it’s directed and written by Karan Sharma. This one releases in cinemas on May 10, 2025.

Param Sundari stars Sidharth Malhotra and Janhvi Kapoor, it’s directed by Tushar Jalota. This one releases on July 25, 2025.

Bollywood actor John Abraham has confirmed that his long-awaited football film, 1911, will not be moving forward. The actor, who was set to portray football legend Shibdas Bhaduri and produce the film under his banner JA Entertainment, revealed the disappointing update in a recent interview. Speaking about the decision, he shared that the project had undergone multiple discussions and changes but has now been put on hold.

Why the Film Won’t Happen—At Least for Now
In an interview with PTI, John Abraham expressed his disappointment regarding the shelving of 1911. “Unfortunately, that film’s not happening because we’ve been through a lot of processes, and the idea sounds good. But we’ve seen a lot of films on football,” he explained. Initially, acclaimed director Shoojit Sircar was attached to direct the project, but later, the reins were handed over to Nikkhil Advani. However, for reasons undisclosed, the project was ultimately shelved. Despite this setback, John hinted that the film might still be revisited in the future, saying, “We’ve parked that for now.”

Apart from 1911, the actor also addressed rumors regarding his portrayal of former Mumbai Police Commissioner Rakesh Maria. Known for handling high-profile cases such as the 1993 Bombay serial blasts and the 26/11 Mumbai attacks, Maria’s story is compelling. While discussing this biopic, John clarified, “The Rakesh Maria biopic is in the discussion stage. I haven’t signed a single film. I’m waiting for the release of The Diplomat, and then I’ve got an exciting film, Tehran. I haven’t signed anything, but hopefully, the day I do, I’ll let everybody know.”

As he devises a dangerous plan to trap her, the story unfolds into an emotionally charged saga of love, betrayal, and vengeance. Directed by Shaneil Deo in his directorial debut, this ambitious project is produced by Supriya Yarlagadda, co-produced by Suniel Narang, and presented by Annapurna Studios. The film is being shot simultaneously in Hindi and Telugu, with a story and screenplay jointly crafted by Adivi Sesh and Shaneil Deo. Currently, filming is underway in Hyderabad, followed by an extensive schedule in Maharashtra.

The trend of re-release has picked up big time and it’s heartening to see certain cult films, which didn’t do well on their original run, doing incredible business when released again. It happened last year with Tumbbad and Laila Majnu; both films did better on their re-runs. This year, Sanam Teri Kasam rewrote history. And now, it’s time for viewers to get ready for another round of re-releases. Salil Acharya recently confirmed that Awarapan (2007) and Aashiqui 2 (2013) are up for re-release next.

At the event of MFN (Matrix Fight Night) 16, Salil Acharya said in an interview with HM Digital Reviews about the re-release plans of the two films. He said, “The re-release trend is working well and it’s great. Awarapan was released nearly 17 years ago. It was an incredible experience shooting for it with Emraan Hashmi, Ashutosh Rana etc. Hence, we all are very excited. I spoke to Mohit Suri about it. Aashiqui 2 is also being re-released. He told me, ‘Aapki dono filmein re-release ho rahi hai’. I am waiting for it.”

He continued, “My very good friend Harshvardhan Rane’s film Sanam Teri Kasam was re-released and it collected nearly Rs. 50 crores. It didn’t do well back then. The same happened with Awarapan. It didn’t do huge business but people loved the film a lot. At that time, Himesh Reshammiya’s Aap Ka Surroor, Apne and Die Hard 4.0 were released on the same day. Hence, I hope this time, people come to watch the film.”

Salil Acharya also spoke about his crucial scene in the film, “I had to shoot my death sequence in one shot. The time was limited. We were shooting outdoors and the light was fading. Since I had done television extensively, I was ready for it. Awarapan was a physically demanding film.”

Awarapan also starred Shriya Saran, Mrinalini Sharma, Shaad Randhawa, Ashish Vidyarthi and Rehan Khan. It’s the story of a gangster who’s asked by his boss to look after his mistress. How his tragic past catches up with him while doing so forms the rest of the film. The film is fondly remembered today for its message, intense moments, Emraan’s memorable performance and of course, the unforgettable soundtrack.

Awarapan was directed by Mohit Suri who also directed Aashiqui 2. It featured Aditya Roy Kapur and Shraddha Kapoor and is the story of an alcoholic singer who mentors an aspiring performer. Unlike Awarapan, Aashiqui 2 was a huge blockbuster when it was released in 2013.

Filmmaker Boney Kapoor, in collaboration with Bhutani Infra-backed Bayview Projects, officially took possession of land for the much-anticipated Noida International Film City on Thursday. This ambitious project, planned across 1,000 acres, will see the first phase developed on 230 acres in Sector 21, along the Yamuna Expressway. The initial phase is estimated to cost Rs. 1,510 crore and is expected to be completed within eight years.

Arun Vir Singh, the CEO of the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA), expressed that the vision of Uttar Pradesh’s Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to create an international film city is gradually becoming a reality. Bayview Projects had previously signed a concession agreement with YEIDA on June 27, 2024, marking a significant milestone in the development process.

The location for the film city, situated just 4 kilometres away from the soon-to-be-launched Noida International Airport, is in Sector 21 on the Yamuna Expressway, making it strategically positioned to become a major entertainment hub. Further speaking about the project, producer Boney Kapoor was quoted telling reporters in PTI, “We will make it a world class film city, in which not only film makers of India but those from across the world should come and make films here. And at the same time in this film city, we will be having an institute where we will be training people. We will be having a retail outlet, we will be having a village, there will be a film museum also.”

He further went on to add, “There will be a lot of activities for people who come in. They will not get just to see the shooting part of it. In fact, here they will get to see shooting part of it from close quarters”. Not just that, the producer insisted on providing movie buffs and lovers with a wholesome experience of ‘watching a shoot’. “There will be a world class golf course at the film city for the tourists which will have a day and night facility,” he shared.
