“Film industry is being used for your own purpose”: Jaya Bachchan accuses government in Rajya Sabha, urges to show “mercy”

Samajwadi Party member and veteran actor Jaya Bachchan on Tuesday appealed to the government to show “mercy” on the film industry, highlighting its struggles amid rising costs and the shutdown of single-screen theatres. Speaking during the General Discussion on the Union Budget 2025-26 in the Rajya Sabha, Bachchan accused the government of neglecting the industry and warned that its survival is at stake. Her remarks come days after Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired a meeting of the WAVES Advisory Board, aiming to position India as a global entertainment hub.

Jaya Bachchan’s Plea for the Film Industry
Bachchan expressed concern over the challenges faced by daily wage workers and the closure of single-screen theatres, attributing these issues to rising costs and high GST rates. “One industry has been totally ignored by you, and other governments were also doing the same thing. But today you have taken it to the next level. You have totally ignored the film and entertainment industry because you only use them for serving your own purpose,” she said. She explained that the film industry is a vital cultural bridge connecting India to the world.
Allegations of Targeting Cinema
The actor-turned-politician also alleged that cinema is being targeted, urging Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman to take the issue seriously. “I am speaking on behalf of my film industry and making a request to this House on behalf of the audio-visual industry, that please spare them. Please have some mercy for them. You are trying to kill this industry. Please do not do this,” Bachchan said. She appealed for concrete proposals to help the industry survive, calling it a “very difficult industry” that requires immediate attention.
WAVE Summit and Industry Disconnect
Bachchan’s plea comes in the wake of the WAVE Summit, where PM Modi engaged with prominent figures from the entertainment industry, including Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, and AR Rahman, to discuss India’s potential as a global entertainment hub.

LEAKED: Top Telugu personalities Sandeep Reddy Vanga, Sukumar, K V Vijayendra Prasad, Suresh Babu, Rana Daggubati unite for Anurag Kashyap’s Kennedy; EXCLUSIVE Pictures from Hyderabad screening!

Anurag Kashyap’s directorial Kennedy became a film to watch out for after it premiered at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival. Later, it got a roaring response when almost 2000 viewers watched it at the Jio MAMI Film Festival in October of the same year. It’s been more than a year since and moviegoers have been patiently waiting for its theatrical release in India. Meanwhile, some of the finest names of the Telugu film industry or rather the Indian film industry came together to watch the film recently. Bollywood Hungama has accessed the pictures from a screening that took place at Ramanaidu Studios, Hyderabad.

Those present at this screening were Sandeep Reddy Vanga of Animal and Kabir Singh fame, Pushpa’s blockbuster director Sukumar, S S Rajamouli’s father and legendary writer K V Vijayendra Prasad, reputed producer Suresh Babu and prominent actor Rana Daggubati.

A source told Bollywood Hungama, “It was quite a screening as these greats assembled at one place to watch Kennedy. And that’s not all. After the screening, they all spoke to Anurag Kashyap for nearly 2 hours about the film. Everyone was quite impressed with Kennedy and praised Kashyap for his work.”

The leaked pictures show Anurag Kashyap listening to their thoughts and having an animated discussion. They can also be seen smiling, indicating that everyone had a gala time.

Recently, Anurag Kashyap thundered in an interview over the delayed release of Kennedy. He told The Hollywood Reporter, “I have made five films that are lying unreleased. Where is Kennedy? And whose hands is Kennedy in? It’s in the hands of some people who’ve never made films before. The people who made Kennedy in the studio are all gone. The people who are there, the directive given to them is to up the share prices, generate profits, cost recovery… That’s all there is. Nobody is interested in films. It doesn’t matter if Kennedy went to Cannes; it doesn’t matter if it had such a massive reception at festivals. Forget outside India, they’ve seen the reception in India, but where is the film?”

An industry insider commented, “The support that Anurag Kashyap has got from these legendary film personalities should enhance the buzz for Kennedy and hopefully, culminate into its release in India in the near future. The film has gotten love from all over the world and the Indian audience also deserves to see this great piece of cinema.”

Rozlyn Khan slams Ankita Lokhande for defending Hina Khan; accuses her of using Sushant Singh Rajput’s death for Bigg Boss

In an earlier interview, Rozlyn Khan accused Hina Khan of using her cancer treatment as a publicity stunt which did not go down well with co-actress and colleague Ankita Lokhande. The Pavitra Rishta actress took to social media to share her disappointment and anger towards the allegations against the YRKHH actress, insisting that her husband Vicky Jain too met her in the midst of her treatment. However, unhappy with the support Lokhande showcased for Hina, Rozlyn decided to slam her and accused her of using her ex-boyfriend Sushant Singh Rajput’s death to gain sympathy on Bigg Boss.

On Tuesday, Ankita Lokhande shared a glimpse of the interview with Rozlyn Khan is throwing allegations at Hina Khan and calling out the latter for her so-called ‘publicity stunt’ and in the post shared on Instagram story, the Manikarnika actress wrote, “”How could someone think so low, my goodness? That’s so cheap! For your kind information, madam, this girl Hina is fighting cancer with such bravery, and I’m saying this because I know it. Vikki met her a few days back in the hospital while she was undergoing chemotherapy, and Rocky was by her side. Vikki told me he was in tears seeing her in that condition. Hina, you are strong, our Sher Khan! This isn’t easy for you or for anyone going through this. God bless you, girl. This too shall pass. @realhinakhan.”

However, Khan decided to react to this note by further bringing in Ankita Lokhande’s past and also calling out the fraternity as she insisted that more members from ‘the girl gang’ of the industry will be coming out in support of Hina. “A woman who could use the death of his ex for a big boss is preaching to me about cheapness!! Not a big surprise… Guys, I posted a video a few days ago mentioning how these TV actresses are using their fan pages to reshare my videos, harassing and trolling me, and @lokhandeankita has come forward publicly, assaulting my character. Hina’s cancer is cancer… my cancer just for time pass?? I was exposing one woman, and another one came in for free, but let’s ignore her… simply ignore. Now, she’s going to give me lectures on cancer, when she herself needs advice to sustain her own marriage,” her note read.

“I have been repeatedly saying that since I asked a simple question on 15 hours of surgery and discrepancies in the treatment by Hina khan, she chooses to remain silent on this and even hospital has followed the privacy concerns of a patient but they took another route may be to hit me in the back .. there were unidentified people bullying me , multiple bots were set for bad comments on my page ..fan pages of tv actress were Sharing my videos to troll me further, so I had no option but to inform the local police station,” she went on to add.

For the unversed, Rozlyn Khan too is a cancer survivor and has often discussed her journey with her social media fam. Meanwhile, Hina Khan has been receiving much support not only from her fans but also from the film industry with members like Mahima Chaudhary and Sonali Bendre who have been through this painful experience before.

Aankhon Ki Gustakhiyaan makers Mini Films deny allegations made by Arushi Nishank

Mini Films, led by its producers Mr. Varun and Ms. Mansi Bagla, have strongly refuted the baseless allegations made by Arushi Nishank, who has wrongly accused them of financial misconduct involving ₹4 crores for a role for their upcoming film.

In an official statement, Mini Films stated, “The claims made by Arushi Nishank are completely false and misleading. This is a civil dispute, and we are taking the necessary legal recourse to address the matter.

Further, Arushi Nishank approached us in Mumbai, persistently following up for a meeting with us, stating that she is the daughter of the ex-minister of Uttarakhand and wanted to tie up with us through her entity, Himshri Films, for our film. She claimed she could bring our film to Uttarakhand, as she had a strong political hold at Uttarakhand and could get many things done easily for us and for our film. However, we politely refused her, stating that we do not need any support as such as we were already progressing with our film. She later expressed her desire to become a heroine and requested to us for a small role in exchange of investing in the film, stating that investing in the film would help her achieve this. She claimed it would also position her as the face of Uttarakhand and boost her political career too. To persuade us, she highlighted her alleged strong ties with Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami, mentioning to us how she had invited him to the set of her web series Life Hill Gayi and promised to do the same for our film.”

They added, “However, once she came on board, she began threatening and demanding a larger role as a parallel lead of the Film. While we were shooting in Dehradun, her husband, Abhinav Pant—who often tried to attract us with his astrological talks and frequently asked for our kundali—invited us to his construction site near Dehradun Airport, close to Thano Chowk. A car took us to a half constructed building, where he threatened us to give Arushi a parallel lead role in the film. Refusing to bow down to their pressure, we removed her from the film, terminating her involvement. The threats to defame were given to us if we did not meet their demands.”

Despite this, she spread false PR news, claiming to be a trio in the film with our lead cast. Arushi is media-hungry person and has temperamental issues. The accusations are entirely fabricated, and our legal team is taking necessary action.

The production house urges the media and public to dismiss these false claims and await the legal resolution.

Madhubala biopic: The late star’s sister serves legal notice to Sony Pictures; says she is ‘anxiously waiting for some progress or update’ on the film

Come February 14, and Madhubala’s fans shall celebrate the late star’s 92nd birth anniversary. “It’s an extremely special day for me and family. The day stands for the celebration of my sister’s timeless charm and beauty,” says Madhubala’s youngest sister, Madhur Brij Bhushan.

It goes without saying that back in the 50s and 60s, Madhubala ruled the roost with her incredulous talent and peerless beauty. That’s why, the late superstar and her life has always been the centre of attention with a number of modern-day actors and film-makers. No doubt then that the announcement of the Madhubala biopic at the start of last year, by Sony Pictures, created tonnes of buzz in the film circles.

There’s been no news on the Madhubala biopic front since the announcement, around March last year. Ask the late actor’s sister, Madhur about it, and she retorts angrily, “We are in 2025 now. It’s been close to two years [since we signed the agreement] and I am still anxiously waiting for some progress or update, vis-à-vis the start date or muhurat of the film.”

Madhur adds, “It’s embarrassing for me to say but I have no answer [about the status of the film] because I myself have been waiting to hear from Sony Pictures for past several months. They have only given us extremely vague responses till date. That wait is becoming endless with a frustrating delay from studio’s side.”

Madhur and her team signed the agreement with Sony Pictures in May 2023. “I didn’t expect this from a top film company like Sony,” she says, adding: “We have sent multiple mails to them [Sony Pictures] but to no avail. I myself sent a detailed mail to them about the film but they haven’t bothered to reply to it, till date.”

In fact, Madhur, through her legal team, has recently served a legal notice to Sony Pictures. “I was left with no option, to be honest. I am a senior citizen and not getting young, so this endless wait makes me very unhappy, but I feel extremely helpless. However, along with my partners, I plan to do whatever it takes to ensure that the film is made, anyhow,” says Madhur.

As Madhubala’s 92nd birth anniversary draws close, a “disheartened” Madhur says that due to “inexplicable” delay from Sony Pictures, her special plans to honour Madhubala’s legacy has been delayed indefinitely.

“I wanted to do certain things in my sister’s memory – have her statue installed, do something for an old-age home and music school etc. This is the least I can do for her. But this inordinate delay has thrown all the plans off track. It’s very disheartening. My simple question [to Sony] is: ‘do you want to make the film? Are you even serious about the biopic? What is your plan?’ Please give some clarity. What wrong have I done to deserve this treatment,” she says.

Madhur, though, continues to be extremely gung-ho about the biopic that will be a “true tribute to my iconic sister’s life.” She says, “Madhu aapa had a super successful career and she was a top star but at heart, she always remained a family girl, who loved simple things of life. I guess, her immeasurable beauty made up for everything that she may have lacked. Since I am not getting any younger, so, I just hope and pray that the film gets made at the earliest and I can see my long-standing dream coming true in front of my eyes.”

Madhur adds that she, along with her team, “will do whatever it takes to get the film made anyhow.” She says, “A number of Madhubala’s fans are eagerly waiting for the film [on my sister’s life]. When I am asked about the same, I have no answer for them. In fact, many feel cheated that I promised a film to them but nothing has happened till date.”

Although Madhubala, as a subject, has always attracted attention from a number of filmmakers and actors. But Madhur insists that no one, other than who she and the family authorise, can attempt any film or show etc. on her late sister’s life.

“It’s my humble appeal to everyone to stay away from any such stunt [making content on Madhubala’s life]. We won’t let anyone else attempt any such film. It’s mine/ my family’s exclusive emotional right. I just want to tell people to not attempt anything distasteful,” she says, adding, “Dekhiye yeh meri family aur meri emotions se connected hai. Toh meri sirf ek hi request hai ki kucch bhi aisa naa karein jisse rishte kharaab ho, and which is in bad taste.”

Madhur says she has a “humble request” for everyone to “not indulge in unnecessary adventurism.” She adds, “I am making the film with my partners, so kindly don’t come in between. I, along with my partners, would do everything possible — including taking legal steps – to safeguard my family’s interests,” says Madhur, adding that in the past, she and her partners have taken stringent legal action against a couple of “mischief makers”. “And, we would not shy away from doing the same if anyone tries to forcefully attempt any film/show on my sister’s life,” she says.

For many years now, Madhur has gone out of the way to do her bit to keep Madhubala’s beautiful legacy alive and take it even further. At this point though, she is “disappointed” that some articles and stories paint her in a very bad light, without knowing the ‘real truth.’ “It’s very upsetting to hear or read about such inane and unsubstantiated reports and articles,” she says, adding that certain online articles and vlogs have tried to tarnish her image.

“I have worked extremely hard all my life. I want to ask such people, ‘do you know me? Have you tried to talk to me? How can you say such hurtful things then? Surely, Madhubala was a top star and I will all always be indebted to her for a lot of things but not many know that I have myself been working since a very young age to make a name and career for myself in the world of music, dubbing and advertising etc. And I can proudly state that I have created a successful business on my own. That way, I am also a self-made person,” she says.

Singer B Praak has cancelled his scheduled appearance on YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia’s podcast following a recent controversy. Allahbadia, known as BeerBiceps, faced backlash for making an inappropriate remark on comedian Samay Raina’s show, ‘India’s Got Latent.’ In response, B Praak shared an Instagram video expressing his disapproval of Allahbadia’s comments, stating that such remarks do not align with Indian culture and questioning how they could be considered comedy.

B Praak said, “I was about to go for a podcast on BeerBiceps and we cancelled that because of the kind of pathetic thinking, and the kind of words used on Samay Raina’s show. This is not our Indian culture. What kind of things you are sharing about your parents? Is this comedy? This is not at all comedy. This cannot be stand-up comedy. Teaching people cuss words! I do not understand what generation is this. A Sardar ji also comes on the show. Sardar ji, you know you are a Sikh, do these things look good? What kind of teachings are you giving? He even puts clips on his Instagram, saying – Yes I abuse, what is the problem in that? Well, we do have a problem with that.”

Bashing Ranveer Allahbadia, B Praak said, “Ranveer Allahbadia you promote Sanatan Dharm, you talk about spirituality, such big names come to your show, and you have such a mentality? I request you all- If we are not able to stop this now, the future of our kids is in danger.”

He added, “So please, I request Samay Raina and other comedians who are a part of the show, do not do this. Please preserve our Indian culture and motivate people.”

During a recent appearance on Samay Raina’s YouTube show, ‘India’s Got Latent,’ YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia posed a controversial question to a contestant: “Would you rather watch your parents have sex every day or join them to finish it once and for all?” This remark quickly went viral, leading to widespread criticism on social media.

Allahbadia issued a public apology, acknowledging that his comments were “not appropriate” and “not even funny,” admitting to a lapse in judgment.

Anubhav Sinha makes shocking confession about not talking to Ajay Devgn for 18 years; says, “He just doesn’t speak to me and I have no idea why”

Anubhav Sinha, who recently made his web-series debut with the power-packed IC814: Kandahar Hijack, recalled his memories about Cash which featured an ensemble cast including Ajay Devgn. The filmmaker revealed that ever since the release of the year, almost two decades ago, the Bollywood superstar has never spoken to Sinha. However, he also insisted that they have never had a fight or showdown.

In an interview with Lallantop, Anubhav Sinha insisted that he has not been in touch with Ajay Devgn and said, “We have never fought. He just doesn’t speak to me and I have no idea why. Since the making of Cash, we haven’t even met for me to tell you he ignored me or something. So, maybe, it’s just me overthinking. However, I did text him a couple of times, and never received a response, so I told to myself that maybe it slipped his mind or he must have missed my message. But, it’s been about 18 years since we have spoken.”

The Ra.One filmmaker went on to share that he assumes that some of his thoughts and opinions that he may have put across in public may have resulted in this distance between them. “In between, I did comment on people’s political views, so I must have told him something too. But he was not the only person I commented about. I have said things to various people, but I still maintain good relations with them all. I am his admirer and I really respect him as an actor and individual,” he added.

However, all of this did not stop Sinha from showering praises on Devgn, whom he considers as one of our best actors and stars. “Ajay was among my favourite actors. I loved him both as an actor and an individual. He is fun to be with. He is like ‘yaaro ka yaar’. Ajay is always the first one to be there for a friend in need.”
