An FIR has been lodged at Kotwali police station in Dehradun against the producers of Vikrant Massey-Shanaya Kapoor starrer Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan – Mansi Bagla and Varun Bagla – by Aarushi Nishank, daughter of former Uttarakhand CM and ex-minister for human resource development in the Narendra Modi cabinet, Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank. Aarushi alleged that she was cheated by the accused of Rs. 4 crores after being promised a role in the upcoming Bollywood movie.

The complaint states that Aarushi Nishank met Mansi Bagla and Varun Bagla and they asked her to invest Rs. 5 crores in Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan. In return, they promised her a significant role in the film and also a profit. Accordingly, on October 9, 2024, a MOU was signed between Aarushi’s company Himshree Films and Mini Films, run by Mansi Bagla and Varun Bagla. Aarushi then paid Rs. 2 crores on October 10, Rs. 25 lakhs on October 27, Rs. 75 lakhs on October 30 and Rs. 1 crore on November 1.

Aarushi further claimed in the complaint that she was assured of 20% profit from the film and that the estimated returns were expected to be Rs. 15 crores. She was also promised a say in her role in the script with a clause that if she was dissatisfied, she would be refunded the money with 15% annual interest.

On February 5, she found out that the shoot of Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan was completed and another actor was cast for her role. She also alleged that in December, she had attended an event of the film in Dehradun where the film’s team met Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami; she claimed that the makers published a manipulated photograph on their company’s official page, excluding her from it.

Further, Aarushi Nishank made the allegation that she was intimidated by threats of defamation and extortion and that Mansi Bagla and Varun Bagla made derogatory comments about her Garhwali background.

Mansi Bagla and Varun Bagla have been booked under section 308(5) (extortion by putting someone in fear of death or grievous hurt), section 318(4) (cheating and fraud), section 336(3) (forgery with intent to cheat), section 338 (forgery of valuable documents), section 340(2) (using forged documents as genuine), section 351(3) (criminal intimidation by threatening death or grievous hurt), section 352 (intentional insult to provoke breach of peace), and section 61(2) (criminal conspiracy).

Earlier, Mansi Bagla and Varun Bagla had produced Forensic (2022), which also starred Vikrant Massey.

On Friday, February 7, 2025, the Bombay High Court granted bail to two individuals arrested in connection with an alleged plot to assassinate Bollywood actor Salman Khan. The court ruled in favor of Gaurav Bhatia alias Sandeep Bishnoi and Waspi Mehmud Khan alias Wasim Chikna, citing a lack of substantial evidence. The case revolves around an alleged conspiracy reportedly orchestrated by the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. The accused were initially arrested for allegedly conducting reconnaissance near Khan’s Panvel farmhouse, Bandra residence, and various film locations in 2024.

Court Cites Lack of Substantial Evidence
Justice N R Borkar granted bail to the two accused on February 6, 2025, after reviewing the available evidence. The court found that aside from their presence in a WhatsApp group where the alleged plot was discussed, there was no concrete proof linking them directly to the assassination attempt. The ruling stated, “Except this, no recovery of incriminating material has been found against them. Even the WhatsApp chats are vague.”

Defense Claims Charges Were Fabricated

The defense argued that the allegations against the two men were exaggerated and meant to garner media attention. Their legal representatives also highlighted that another accused, Deepak Gogoi, had been granted bail by the sessions court in 2024. Additionally, they claimed that neither Vaspi nor Gaurav had direct links to the Bishnoi gang or any role in the murder plot.

Background of the Case and Previous Developments

The alleged conspiracy was part of a larger investigation involving 18 members of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. Police sources revealed that in April 2024, two members of the gang fired shots outside Salman Khan’s Bandra apartment. The FIR named multiple accused, including gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, who is currently incarcerated in Ahmedabad, his absconding brother Anmol Bishnoi, and other associates such as Sampat Nehra, Goldie Brar, and Rohit Godhara.

International Links and Alleged Escape Plan

During the investigation, authorities discovered that one of the suspects had contacted a Pakistan-based individual to procure AK-47 rifles for the attack. The gang allegedly planned to regroup in Kanyakumari before fleeing to Sri Lanka. However, several key members were arrested before they could execute their plan.

In the new podcast episode, Salman Khan is seen interrupting Arhaan and his friends and said, “Pehle to aap ye sab Hindi me karo (Do the podcast in Hindi),” as they were all speaking in English.

Arhaan laughed and replied, “Hindi aata nahin inn sabko.”

To this, one of Arhaan’s friends says, “Hindi bhot kharab hai.” Salman jokingly repeats his words and adds, “Speak in Hindi from now on, and I will correct it.”

Arhaan laughs, mentioning that they are getting Hindi classes. He then jokes, “It’s going to be a language barrier now.” To this, Salman scolds them, saying, “You should be ashamed of yourselves that you don’t know Hindi. You need to cater to the audience who speaks Hindi entirely. But you are doing it for yourself, right, and not to show to anyone?”

When Arhaan and his friends hesitate, Salman Khan presses further and said, “Will you make money out of this (the podcast)?”

Following this, Salman shifts gears and offers career advice to his nephew and his friends, emphasizing the importance of dedication, consistency, and knowing their audience.

Shah Rukh Khan’s 2023 film Dunki, directed by Rajkumar Hirani, is reportedly being considered for a theatrical re-release. The film, which explores the theme of illegal immigration, has gained renewed relevance amid recent incidents of Indian immigrants being deported from the US. A report by Mid-Day reveals that discussions are underway at Red Chillies Entertainment, the production house behind the film, to bring Dunki back to cinemas as early as this month.

The film, starring Shah Rukh Khan and Taapsee Pannu, tells the story of Hardy (played by Khan), who helps his friends from Punjab migrate to the UK via the illegal “donkey route.” It highlights the risks and struggles faced by illegal immigrants, a topic that has sparked widespread conversation following recent deportation videos. The report quoted a source saying, “The situation with Indian immigrants being deported in terrible conditions has reignited conversations around the themes of Dunki. Like every Rajkumar Hirani film, it was always meant to be more than just a big-ticket release; it highlighted a real struggle.”

While Rajkumar Hirani expressed unawareness of the re-release plans, he acknowledged the film’s relevance, stating, “Illegal immigration has been happening for years from Punjab. Akshay Kumar and Priyadarshan are reuniting after 15 years for the horror-comedy Bhooth Bangla, produced by Ekta Kapoor. Set for an April 2026 release, the film boasts a stellar ensemble cast, including Tabu, Paresh Rawal, Rajpal Yadav, Asrani, and Wamiqa Gabbi. The team recently completed a key schedule in Hyderabad and is preparing for the final leg of shooting in February 2025.

Akshay Kumar and Tabu have filmed a classical dance number for Bhooth Bangla during their Hyderabad schedule, Pinkvilla has exclusively learned. Composed by Pritam, the song showcases Tabu in a never-seen-before avatar, performing classical Indian dance alongside Akshay. A source revealed that the song appears at a crucial moment in the film and is expected to be one of its major highlights.

Bhooth Bangla promises a spooky yet comedic ride, featuring Wamiqa Gabbi as Akshay Kumar’s love interest and Mithila Palkar as his sister. The film reunites the OG gang from classics like Hera Pheri, Bhagam Bhag, and Bhool Bhulaiyaa. With extensive VFX work, the makers are mounting it on a grand scale for a visually thrilling experience. “The horror / supernatural element of Bhooth Bangla derives from the mythological element, which has been shot with perfection by Priyadarshan,” the source added.

Akshay Kumar, Priyadarshan, and Pritam—who created the cult classic Ami Je Tomar in Bhool Bhulaiyaa (2007)—are back together for Bhooth Bangla. Apart from this horror comedy, Akshay and Priyadarshan are also teaming up for Hera Pheri 3, touted as India’s biggest comedy. The much-awaited sequel is set to begin filming in December 2025, with a theatrical release planned for late 2026.
