Mamta Kulkarni, who recently returned to Mumbai and sparked rumours about making a comeback in films, insisted that she doesn’t plan on returning to films but instead would like to follow a spiritual path. This further led to the actress becoming a member of the Kinnar Akhada during the Maha Kumbh and performing the rituals, after which she received the title of Mahamandaleshwar. However, now only a week later, Rishi Ajay Das, who is the founder of the Akhada has expelled the actress and also popular social activist Laxmi Narayan Tripathi from their respective positions.

On Friday, Das released an official press statement regarding the removal of the two members, which was shared by many reports wherein he said, “As the founder of Kinnar Akhada, I am hereby relieving Acharya Mahamandaleshwar Lakshmi Narayan Tripathi from his position as Acharya Mahamandaleshwar of the Kinnar Akhada, effective immediately. His appointment was made with the goal of promoting religious activities and uplifting the transgender community, but he has deviated from these responsibilities.”

Furthermore, he also expressed his anger over the matter and was quoted telling PTI,
“This is not Bigg Boss’s show that you do it during Maha Kumbh and then for three years you don’t do any work… Both Mamta Kulkarni and Acharya Mahamandleshwar, Lakshmi Narayan Tripathi, will be removed from their post.” He went on to speak about the accusations that were thrown against the actress regarding her involvement in the drug cartel and stated, “A person like Mamta Kulkarni who has allegations of indulging in anti-national activities against her was suddenly brought here and without ‘sanyas’, she was directly anointed as Mahamandleshwar. This is not right. So, I am taking action against them.”

On the other hand, Laxmi Narayan Tripathi has defended his actions and asserted taking action against Das. He also came in defense of the actress insisting that all charges against her were later dropped by the court. In a statement given to ANI, Tripathi shared, “We had expelled Ajay Das in 2017. He then chose a household life and misappropriated Kinnar Akhara’s funds during the 2016 Ujjain Kumbh. In the 2019 Prayagraj Kumbh, our akhara officially allied with Juna Akhara and we accepted Mahant Hari Giri as our guru.”

Meanwhile, Thandel, starring Naga Chaitanya and Sai Pallavi, is set for release on February 7, 2025. The Telugu film will also be dubbed in Hindi. Interestingly, it will clash at the box office with Loveyapa, starring Aamir Khan’s son. When asked about the competition, Aamir diplomatically stated, “Everyone’s film should work at the box office.” It remains to be seen whether Thandel will impact Loveyapa’s performance.

Arjun Kapoor was last seen in Singham Again, a film that incorporated mythological elements into its narrative. Rakul Preet Singh is gearing up for De De Pyaar De 2, a sequel to the hit 2019 rom-com. In a major development surrounding the stabbing incident involving Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan, a Facial Recognition Test (FRT) has confirmed that Shariful, a Bangladeshi national, was indeed the individual seen on CCTV footage on the night of the attack. This revelation comes as Shariful’s father prepares to visit the Indian High Commission to protest the arrest of his son, claiming that the Mumbai Police are “framing” Shariful in connection with the crime.

The FRT, conducted by Mumbai Police, compared Shariful’s facial features with those of the suspect captured in the footage from the CCTV cameras around Khan’s residence on the night of the stabbing. The results of the test returned positive, further solidifying the suspicion that Shariful was involved in the incident.

On Wednesday, in a surprising move, the Bandra magistrate’s court refused to grant Mumbai Police custody of Shariful. The court, after reviewing the application for further police custody, noted that there was no fresh ground to justify extending his detention. As a result, Shariful was sent to judicial remand, with the court questioning the validity of the police’s request.

Shariful’s father, who has vocally denied the allegations against his son, asserts that the Mumbai Police are unjustly implicating him in the case. He plans to visit the Indian High Commission to voice his concerns and seek intervention, claiming that his son has been falsely accused.

As the legal process unfolds, the FRT findings have added weight to the case against Shariful, though his defense team remains adamant that he is being wrongfully targeted. Authorities have yet to comment on whether further investigative measures will be taken in light of these new developments.

About the Saif Ali Khan attack case

On January 16, Saif Ali Khan was allegedly attacked at his residence, located in the plush area of Bandra, due to which, he sustained multiple stab wounds on his body. The actor was discharged after a few surgeries on January 21. Meanwhile, the police investigation led to Mohammad Shariful Islam Azad, who was nabbed from Thane, three days following the incident. Further, a team delved into his identity after he was recognized as a Bangladeshi national, which led them to West Bengal where the accused allegedly resided earlier. Meanwhile, the police are currently investigating Islam’s contacts and the ones responsible for bringing him illegally to the country.

Actor and producer Jackky Bhagnani recently shared updates on the much-awaited sequel to F.A.L.T.U. During a Q&A session, he revealed he’s on the lookout for a “good and exciting story” for the sequel to the 2011 film. While busy with his upcoming production Mere Husband Ki Biwi, Bhagnani emphasized that the success of the sequel hinges on an original and engaging storyline.

He said, “I am looking for a good and exciting story for F.A.L.T.U-2. Once we find something unique and appealing, we will definitely make the sequel.”

Directed by Remo D’Souza and produced by Vashu Bhagnani under Puja Entertainment, F.A.L.T.U. featured Jackky Bhagnani, Puja Gupta, Chandan Roy Sanyal, Angad Bedi, Riteish Deshmukh, and Arshad Warsi, with Akbar Khan and Darshan Jariwala in supporting roles. The film was released on April 1, 2011.

Meanwhile, Bhagnani made headlines after attending the opening ceremony of the International League T20 in the UAE. Speaking about his love for cricket, the actor mentioned that he has always enjoyed playing the sport, both as a child and even now.

He added, “I’ve always enjoyed playing cricket as a kid, and I still enjoy it to date. Attending the ILT20 Opening Ceremony was a one-of-a-kind experience. We all love cricket, and it was an amazing experience for me to perform at the opening ceremony. It’s lovely to see how cricket brings people together, and seeing everyone’s energy made me ecstatic.”

The Amazon MX Player’s StreamNext 2025 was held on January 30 at a five-star hotel in Mumbai and was a star-studded affair. Meanwhile, Girish Prabhu, Head, Amazon Ads, India, Karan Bedi, Head of Amazon MX Player, Amogh Dusad, Head of Content, Amazon MX Player and renowned tech analyst Benedict Evans spoke about the collaboration of Amazon and MX Player, evolving digital landscape and a lot more. One of the most fascinating announcements made at the event was that several films, which were available on OTT platforms until now, can now be seen for free.

Amazon Prime Video is an SVOD (Subscription Video on Demand) platform, which means that one has to buy a subscription to access its library of exciting films. MX Player, on the other hand, is an AVOD (Advertising-Based Video on Demand) platform. It signifies that one can watch content on the streaming giant for free but with ads. With Amazon and MX Player now coming together, certain films of Amazon Prime Video will now be available on MX Player under the AVOD arrangement and users can enjoy it without paying a single penny.

One of the biggest films in this regard is the Hindi version of Pushpa: The Rise – Part 01. Some other licensed films available now on MX Player are Drishyam 2, Ram Setu, Heropanti 2, JugJugg Jeeyo, Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety, Pati Patni Aur Woh, Bellbottom, Satyameva Jayate, Satyameva Jayate 2, Thank God etc. Amazon original films like Jai Bhim (Tamil and Hindi versions), Gehraiyaan, Coolie No 1, Udaan, Sardar Udham, Dybbuk, Durgamati etc. can also be accessed on MX Player.

The library will be expanded in the future. In the announcement video, glimpses of Ponniyin Selvan and Sita Ramam were seen but these biggies are yet to make it on the platform.
