Renowned choreographer and filmmaker Ganesh Acharya has announced his next project, Sirf Tum, a love story written and directed by Deepak Shivdasani. The film, which explores themes of love without reason, is set to begin production in April in Sydney, Australia.

The Creative Minds Behind Sirf Tum
The film marks the collaboration between Acharya’s production company, V2S Production & Entertainment, and director Deepak Shivdasani. Shivdasani is known for his previous directorial work on films such as Baaghi, Gopi Kishan, Bhai, and Krishna.

Sirf Tum is being produced by Vidhi Acharya, with Soundarya Acharya serving as the executive producer. The project also acknowledges Boney Kapoor for his special contributions, as noted in the announcement.

Post-pandemic, a growing trend has been of cinema halls not just showing films but also live events. It began with theatres airing cricket matches and it got a very encouraging response. In 2024, the much-awaited inauguration of Ram Temple in Ayodhya was also shown in multiplexes. Some theatres then went one step ahead and streamed the Lok Sabhal Elections 2024 results live on the big screen. And now, in a move that is expected to pay dividends, multiplexes are all set to show the much-talked-about Coldplay concert in select cinemas across the country.

A source told Bollywood Hungama, “As we all know there was a crazy demand to watch Coldplay’s concert live due to its insane popularity in India. But many couldn’t get tickets as the shows got full in no time. But they should not be worried as they can now head to a theatre and experience the Coldplay magic on the big screen. It can’t replicate the experience of watching it at the concert venue but still, it would be worth it as theatres will stream the event live on the big screen and the songs will play on the advanced sound systems installed in most multiplexes. Also, there’ll be other Coldplay fans in the audi who would be equally excited and pumped up. Moreover, in concerts, you have to stand and watch the show but here, you can comfortably sit, if you wish to, and enjoy the experience, that too in an air-conditioned environment.”

The Coldplay concerts will be held at D Y Patil Stadium near Mumbai on January 18, 19 and 21 followed by two shows at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on January 25 and 26. The source said, “All these shows will be premiered live in theatres.” The source further said that Coldplay fans can catch the experience at PVR Inox cinemas. It remains to be seen if other multiplex chains will also be following suit.

The India leg of Coldplay – Music Of The Spheres World Tour ignited a lot of controversy after most fans failed to get a ticket on the booking app. Meanwhile, tickets at inflated rates were instantly available on resale websites. The matter became so serious that even the police got involved.

On January 11, fans were surprised when BookMyShow announced that they’d once again open the booking and sell some tickets on their platform for these concerts.

One is not the least surprised by the utterly distasteful video being circulated which shows unwanted attention being showered on Nargis Fakhri. Nargis and I in fact spoke during the shooting of the film and she had warily confessed she was “quite exhausted” by the ways of Bollywood.

Soon after she left Mumbai. Nargis said, and I quote, “I encountered an unfortunate situation that caused me to not be able to come back to Bollywood. I do not want to talk about that. These factors of having to pander to the male ego is international so, no it did not cause me to recoil or leave Bollywood. Although this is not true for all people in the industry. I have met and worked with some wonderful people and really appreciate them.”

Nargis was never comfortable with the Bollywood conventions. “The heaving thrusting butt-moving is tough. When they give you the movements forty minutes before they are shot and then you’ve to learn the steps and then lip-sync you have to be a seasoned dancer to get a hang of it, which I am not. It’s very difficult for my mind and body to be in sync because I have learnt western dancing. Bollywood dancing is very different.”

Nargis was trying to come to terms with her typical Bollywood song-and-dance. “I completed a song and dance with Shahid Kapoor in Phata Poster Nikla Hero and then Varun Dhawan in Main Tera Hero. Even the terminology ‘item song’ is new to me. When people say a girl is doing an item song they mean it in a not-so-nice way. Bollywood dancing is as alien to me as Hindi. I am just enjoying learning it. There is a lot of heaving and boob-thrusting which I found difficult at first. But I was okay after a while. There are so many people indulging in so many activities on the sets. Come to think of it everything here in Mumbai is culturally very different from everywhere else.”

Before the Varun Dhawan incident Nargis had spoken to me about a major superstar who had her ousted from a project when she didn’t “pander to his ego”.

Such unwanted attention is a common occurrence for women who are not part of film families. Nobody would dare take such liberties with Alia Bhatt, Sara Ali Khan or Janhvi Kapoor for very obvious reasons. But actresses from the outside, especially someone who comes from West—and we all know how chalu these firangi types are—are seen as “hot and available”

How do I know? I’ve heard actors talking that way about actresses who don’t have blood connections in the entertainment industry.

Lost Opportunities Amid the Pandemic
In an interview with Pinkvilla, Madhur Bhandarkar detailed how Inspector Ghalib did not materialize. The film, described as an action-packed story in a realistic setting, was sidelined when the pandemic struck. “Woh rakhi hai picture. It was a very good script. I have always wanted to make that film. Pandemic aa gaya, then we lost contact. Aur fir maine aise hi rakhi script,” Bhandarkar said. The project’s progress stalled as Bhandarkar and Khan lost communication, leading the filmmaker to set the script aside temporarily.
Future Aspirations for Inspector Ghalib
Despite the setbacks, Bhandarkar remains optimistic about revisiting the film. He said, “But definitely I’ll revisit sometime. I would like to make that film. It’s an action-packed film but again, in a real zone. It’s a very topical subject. Definitely main banaunga.” The filmmaker’s passion for the subject indicates that Inspector Ghalib could see the light of day in the future.

With nine Filmfare awards to its credit Kaho Na…Pyar Hai became the second- largest Filmfare award winner after Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge which had won ten Filmfare trophies. Rakesh Roshan felt vindicated. While his earlier films won awards none had gone to him in the capacity of a director.

Recalls Rakesh Roshan, “When a film is rewarded and awarded it definitely gives one a huge high. Sometimes a film does exceptionally well at the box office. But it doesn’t win any awards. Then again, there are award-winning films which aren’t successful at the box office. Kaho Na…Pyar Hai did both. It became a hit and got awards. But to be honest, I didn’t expect so many awards. I think for three members of the same family (Rakesh Roshan, his brother Rajesh Roshan and son Hrithik) to win awards for the same film is unprecedented.

While other films featuring protagonists in a double role had been consistently flopping, two Hrithiks in Kaho Na…Pyar Hai seemed to please audiences immensely.

Rakesh Roshan explains why. “This was a double role with a difference. The two Hrithiks were never together. When one dies the other appears. So, in a way the two characters formed a complete whole. In most films featuring double roles one is a good and the other a bad guy. In this case both the Hrithiks were shown as decent human beings with different attitudes to life. We planned the film in the way it was presented with the girl Ameesha Patel gradually coming to love the person whom her dead boyfriend resembles although she insists, she can never forget her first love. It’s the crisis in the girl’s life that brings her close to her dead love’s lookalike.”

The filmmaker remembers the moment he decided to cast his son Hrithik in Kaho Na…Pyar Hai. “On the morning when I decided on this story Hrithik was sitting next to me. Since the story required a new face we decided then and there that Hrithik would do it. Contrary to rumours, Shah Rukh Khan was never considered for Kaho Na…Pyar Hai. He was in the running for another film that I was planning to make at that time. If I had made that film Hrithik would have made his debut a couple of years down the line. It was fate, I guess.”

Soon after Kaho Na…Pyar Hai was declared a blockbuster Rakesh Roshan was shot at by the underworld which claimed he had promised that Hrithik would do a film for them. “I never gave any indication that Hrithik could do a film for them. I kept putting them off saying Hrithik had no dates, which in any case, was the truth. They then asked me to take dates away from other producers and give it to them. This again, I refused to do. Once I had committed my son’s dates elsewhere, I refused to give into arm twisting tactics. I never gave in. With the kind of tension and fear that some of us had to bear, we couldn’t do anything creative, let alone make a film.”
